steve's interest in jewelry started off when he was only a child, probably around 4 or 5 years old. he was always interested in the shiny things that his mom kept on the vanity in the bedroom she shared with his father. there were moments the two shared, the two sitting at the vanity with steve on her lap and him trying on her rings and necklaces with the clip-on earrings that helen would keep with the rest of her jewelry just for these occasions.

so when steve was old enough ( he was 14 years old ), he got his ears pierced for the first time. his first pair were a set of studs that he chose when he got the piercings, nothing too elaborate. it was when he was around 16 years old that he wanted to try out rings and his mom gave him a couple of her old rings that would fit him until he could earn enough money to buy his own.

it was just unfortunate that he would lose those rings and earrings when he and his father were taken to rockfort as they were stripped of most of their possessions ( steve was allowed to keep his photo as it wasn't deemed a hazard ).

after his revival, steve wasn't allowed to wear jewelry while in the HCF, or keep much possessions in general. it would only be after about a year being in the BSAA that steve would get his ears re-pierced. now that he has a paycheck coming in on a regular basis, steve started filling in his indulgence for jewelry, buying rings, earrings, necklaces etc.

wearing jewelry not only reminded him of his mom, but it also allowed him a form of comfort and to feel pretty as in the beginning, steve viewed himself as something less than human and more of a bioweapon. through therapy, steve's view of himself has improved but there's always that little inkling at the back of his head. that little doubt that never seems to go away.

steve has grown quite a collection since then, keeping them on the vanity he has in his bedroom.
