Taylor Swift only came once to Brazil, but the connection between Tayor Swift and Brazil are simply awesome. The newest thing is: EVERYTIME miss Swift released an album the Workers’ Party won the presidential elections:
2006: Debut - Workers’ Party won
2008: Fearless - There were no presidential elections
2010: Speak Now - Workers’ Party won
2012:  Red -  There were no presidential elections
2014: 1989 - Workers’ Party won
2017: Reputation - There were no presidential elections
2018: No album release - Bolsonaro won the elections (Workers’ Party lose)
2019: Lover - There were no presidential elections
2020: folklore and evermore - There were no presidential elections
THE THING IS Taylor is gonna to release Midnights this year AND we have a runoff of the presidential elections between Workers’ Party and Bolsonaro (let’s say a Brazillian Trump) this takes me to: TAYLOR SWIFT IS GONNA SAVE BRAZIL

I usually don't talk about those things here but this time I'm really scared.
I will be typing this using google translate bc I'm not fluent in english, so forgive any weird words.
Yesterday (October 2nd), elections for president, deputies, governors and senators took place, and the contest for president was extended to a second round between Lula and Bolsonaro. And if you usually follow news channels, then you probably know who bolsonaro is.
Homophobic, racist, misogynist. 700k victims of covid-19, and he laughed. Brazil was supposed to have been one of the first countries to receive the vaccine, but he denied it, causing the death of 700k brazilians. I was lucky not to lose relatives, but I saw friends who did. I saw and felt the pain of each one of them, while the president said it was a "little flu" while mocking. if it weren't for him, maybe these people would still be here.
Not to mention the people who are starving, because in the Bolsonaro government the country has returned to the hunger map after years. Every day we see teachers saying how sad it is to see CHILDREN having their only meal of the day at school, parents asking for help and not eating to feed their children, because the unemployment rate has increased and unfortunately the price of food too. And yet the current president says there is no hunger in the country.
And speaking of education and unemployment, apart from proposing a 95% cut in education, he does absolutely nothing about the sky-high unemployment rate.
The only ones favored in his government were the rich. He said he would end poverty, and in fact he is, murdering every single one of them.
People are dying. Starving, police violence and politics, covid-19, lgbtphobia.
And with all of the above and more, 50 million people voted him. And the worst: the majority elected in the senate are his supporters, with the same thought. One of them even leaked data from a CHILD victim of rape so that Bolsonaro supporters would come to his house and hospital to protest so that the child would be denied the right to abortion. It's terrifying.
As a brazilian lgbtqia person from a not wealthy family, with black friends and family, I'm genuinely scared. This is a cry for help.

Tackling Mental Health in Youth
Children’s mental health is an evolving crisis that has been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hosts Julia and Keerthi dive into the mental crisis while interviewing teens. Kirpa talks about the factors that contribute to decreased mental stability including neglect, abuse, bullying, or trauma. In Connecticut, House Bill No. 5001 of 2022 is a crucial step in abating the issue. Teen guest, Nilan Kathir, has researched the bill, its provisions, public testimonies, amendments, and has spoken with state lawmakers and experts in the field. These efforts collectively reveal the politics involved in the bill’s passing, barriers of implementation, and effects of the bill in children’s mental healthcare. He shares his findings on Express Yourself! The Breakdown reporter, Rory, advocates for schools as the best place to teach children about mental health, self-awareness, and coping skills. He believes If we can help schools teach children and their families how to manage their emotions in a healthy way from a very young age, we can create safer communities that can help everyone feel their very best. Being there for a child means taking care of oneself first, demonstrating and modeling good self-care and mental health awareness. Positive reinforcement is important in building stronger capabilities to overcome challenges.
“A child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health and deserves the same quality and support.” Kate Middleton

My Top Posts in 2022:

So I don’t usually talk about the king aka Shigaraki in my rants...so I want to reticify that.
Before I move on...just to be clear. I do love Shiggy. This is not me being a hater and if you have a different opinion about Shiggy...ok. That’s valid.
My main grip about Shiggy... is how he has no real end goal. I know people here on tumblr have analyses, essays and whatnot about how Shiggy must be the Messiah that will get rid of bad heroes or capitalism or anything like that.
I like this idea. I would read a fic like that.
The problem is when people really think in Hori’s canon...Shiggy is indeed a messiah who will set all the fair people free from the unjust system.
Like, dont we all live in a shit society? I can’t speak for all but in my country we rather revult about Superman’s son kissing a man than...a genocide president who mock the victims of covid.
And yeah in moments like this....is nice going to escapism. People facing na evil ruler/regime and bringing real changes for the kingdom and everyone is happy.
I get it. I like those stories.
But on Shiggy’s part. On Hori’s canon part...we dont know what HE wants.
Duh he wants destruction. One may say.
Ok...he wants to destroy the heroes....ok then I ask
Does he want a literal destruction? Are we rooting for a villain who wants to commit genocide?
(In the war arc he did many bad thinga and yes we can say “AFO controlled him” sure but he still had some control over his action to a certain point and he shows no remorse)
Does he wants a metaphorical destruction?
Does he plans in making something anew?
What Shiggy wants? ( aside a fine 🥦)
We dont know...we will never know as AFO is treating Shiggy as his flesh puppet for reasons unknown for us.
I know there are many posts saying “shiggy will end the corruption” and I have to say...NO HE WONT. Not on Hori’s canon.
Shiggy’s motivation/goals arent totally his. His father hated heroes. AFO increased that to 11.
Shiggy is not speaking about the flaws of the hero society to everyone but more about how the society failed him. How no one saved him.
(He wanted to be saved by Zuzu but...headed by Hori...look if Hori had made them inferact and had a relationship that would have been amazing but, again, headed by Hori 🙄)
Shiggy speaks about his pain and trauma and I notice how the victims in the story need to be shut and accept their abuser ( case point, look at how hori treats Izu)
Shiggy is vilanize and abused by the narrative for daring to want revenge on his pain.
And again, headed by hori, its a bit hard to forgetten Shiggy’s action and LoV’s (Says the person who likes the idea of them winning with Zuzu)
This make me think of MCU Loki...and how he killed many people in the first avanger’s movie.
Sure. He killed of screen and all are faceless and nameless but here the thing...if we are to accept Loki was brainwashed by Thanos...even so, he indirectly killed those people....does he feel remorse?
Bc LoV and Shiggy show no remorse. Asad backstory is not free card for a character to do whatever.
Also for the togaocha out there....in hori’s canon THIS IS HORSE SHIT. Look ship what you want, I BET YOU CAN BE BETTER THAN HORI HERE.
But Toga trying to kill Ochako, mentioned how she used her quirk to kill and then is surprised that Ochako is grossed out by her....IS NOT TRACING A ANTAGONIST RELATIONSHIP
That is Hori being stupid.

I make this post in the hopes some people watch, read and stay mad. It's 2022 and if you still write any Izu shipping fic- regardless with who- where bk is important for Zuzu or the shipping.
You are shipping wrong! And I say this 100% right and certain of this.
Not saying WHO yoi should ship, but when you ship someone- any ship of any fandom- the general consensus is for 2 characters to be together and happy.
And I know some may say "I ship two villains. They do fucked up shit" ok. Then they are fucked up but in love.
And now you wonder "what's matter? If we ship character A abusing gaslight character B, its not as if we are condoning such acts"
TRUE! I can't stress this enough. Liking dark content is not a sin or illegal, but it's sus how the MHA fandom takes Izuku Midoriya and puts him in awful and abusive situations in the name of "love"
A certian server in the discord seems to make Izu the eternal victim, the one who needs to sacrifice everything to be with his lover...who wont sacrifice anything.
And think back how the number of abusive relationships show in the media are awful...See, any "romance" mainstreaming.
And I mention this bc...why is so hard to make healthy relationships?
I ship shigadeku...and the ship can be healthy even if Zuzu falls to the dark side.
You can ship Izuocha and not make Ochako laugh when BK mistreat Izu.
You can ship Izux anyone. And not make him "cant function without my love interest"
You can make healthy and interesting. Also, the whole myth "fucked up relationships are more interesting to read" is not true.
I wouldn't read any Joker X Harley comic...
But I would love to read a Poison Ivy x Harly comic.

You know, thanks to a discussion with @professionalranter31 I realize something....Shiggy may be the only person, in canon, who really react positively (more or less) to Izu being quirkless.
Like Inko criies her heart out and apologise to him (never will like that nor the scene)
AM dont talk about his past. Yes, he said Izu cant be a hero but it wasnt bc of he is evil...it was to soare him (but I do think he was wrong as not every hero faces a villain like AFO. Also, if AFO didn't exist or was dead would AM agree Izu can be a hero?)
And....
BK, please. You guys know what he thinks. His "iconic" line of suicide baiting tells you everything.
Just it.
Shiggy?
"Ah he is quirkless? Ok whatever" and he is the villain. He couls have said smth equally or worse than what BK said. Could have said smth qorse to Izu's face "quirkless good is a dead one" and yet... he never says this.
The villain is more chill about it than....everyone else.
And the love interest, Ochako, knows shit about Izu...Like wow.

I never did a rant about a ship before bc I always thought someone else could do a better job defending it but, considering how this fandom is...maybe I should give my 2 cents for shigadeku
Note: please. I’m note here to cause any ship war. You ship what you want. If you dont like shigadeku then that’s fine.
That’s out of the way, lets talk about this ship. Now, Hori is a bad writer but even in his bad canon...shigadeku does have interesting and “strong” foundations.
I put “” here bc any ship headed by Hori will be bad written. I know this.
Both are different sides of the same coin. Both are outcasts, both have quirks that caused them pain.
And both are alone.
Now, what we know about shiggy is that he is being manipulated by AFO since a young age.
* I want to mention here how...in the hands of a better writer, the name deku could mean smth omen and AFO could call shiggy deku either in front of him or to his back to add more paralels and development for the 2 like, Izu stood up and says/make bk stop calling him deku is great but imagine him defending shiggy?*
oK think with me. In any sci fi/fantasy movie when a character is being mind controlled or groomed...what would stop him to finished the task is seeing the hero/loved one bc would be the begin for the character to.set free.
“I was supposed to kill this person but I dont want ....for now” and develop from there.
Now, when we meet Shiggy is into the hate AFO spill. He has 0 reasons for wanting AM dead.
“Ahhh but AM represent how this society is bad”
Great answer and idea for a fic. But in canon he never gives a real answer. “I hate AM” is his get go....no further explanation.
But how funny he saw Zuzu and staet wanting to talk to him. No one put this idea in his head.
No AFO.
No Kotaro.
Its all Shiggy.
He, still under AFO’s bullshite, went to see Zuzu. And yes we get the mall scene but what many fans oddly refuse to admit is how...he went to Zuzu on his own free will.
THAT IS HUGE. Especially considering SHIGGY IS GROOMED (that is not fanfic that is canon and I do hate hori’a canon)
He has a photo of Izu...who by the time was just a student.
Like this has a HUGE potential. And I dont get why people refuse to reconize that?
If this stoey was headed by a competent writer shigadeku would be a more prevalent relationship.
They arent mortal enemies...they are two hurt boys stuck in this stupid war and decide to stop the feud.
God this line above is more romantic.
For those wondering...I did watch boku already liking IzuOcha but...Hori sideline Ochako and her feelings so much.
“Ah and the cute moments? Izuocha will be canon, not shigadeku”
I Know. And I have no problems with this ship- if we compare with naruto’s canon ship- but it doesnt change how underveloped it is. Also, Izu could have cute moments with Mina too and no one will say they are endgame.
Not sure if my point is clear. All I’m saying is that Shigadeku has such romantic potential and you dont need to turn Izu into “soft cinnamon roll” or change Shiggy into “playboy” to make it work.
“Ah gross. Shiggy is older than Zuzu”
3 or 4 years isnt a big deal. I mean, Shiggy was a 17 years old when the story begins and that didnt stop anyone to ship shiggy witb dabi or eraserhead who are older than him.

My #1 post of 2022
You know, I think we all own an apology to Kishomoto. Why? His ending wasn't bad written...it fits perfectly with the narrative presented.
Naruto was never about the underdog nor a chosen one who will break the cycle of abuse
No.
Naruto was a story about a fascist and imperalist goverment who will gladly and gleefully stomp overr your body unless you have some utility for them.
The will of fire is not a cutesy thing. It's a propaganda...and it was never challanged.
Sending kids to war.
Breaking yourself for your nation.
Naruto, the mc, never wanted to change anything...he wants the prestige. He wants to be hokage so he can get attention.
Sakura and Naruto both are toxic in regards Sasuke. The victim of genocide - who is paint as a bad person for not wanting to go back to konoha- is in the wrong and needs to be taught a lesson.
Sasuke is not allowed to disagree with a goverment who said ok to genocide of his clan.
Sakura is so yandere for Sasuke...and that checks. You can say is sexism but not is out of character. She dump her friend- mind you in this case Sakura was 10 years old- bc she feared her friend could get the attention of Sasuke.
Naruto was never one to change anything bc all he wanted was to be at the top. Not change anything.
Naruto wasn't a tale of hope. But of dispair.

Tumblr media
This film largely focuses upon the last night of Dean Corll's life, prior to Henley shooting him and contacting authorities. The film was directed by Brad Jones, who also starred as Dean Corll. A film loosely inspired by the Houston Mass Murders, Freak Out, was released in 2003.He had other illnesses, but died from COVID-19. Death īrooks died on May 28, 2020, at age 65, in a Galveston, Texas, hospital while serving out his life sentence. An appeal against Brooks' conviction was lodged but in 1979 this appeal was dismissed. He was found guilty of the Jabduction and murder of 15-year-old William Ray Lawrence. īrooks was found guilty in State of Texas v. In addition to their participating in the abductions and murders of the victims, both Brooks and Henley also burgled several addresses, for which they were paid small sums of money. Both Brooks and Henley would remain active participants in the abduction and abuse of Corll's victims until Corll was shot to death by Henley on August 8, 1973. Henley was likely an intended victim, although Corll evidently saw Henley as an invaluable potential accomplice. In the winter of 1971, Brooks, having by this stage assisted in luring a minimum of six teenage boys to Corll's various addresses, introduced an acquaintance of his named Elmer Wayne Henley to Corll. Brooks was later told by Corll that the two youths had been murdered, and he was offered $200 for any boy he could lure to Corll's apartment-an enticement he accepted. According to Brooks, Corll "jumped up and said, 'I'm just having some fun!'" He promised Brooks a car in return for his silence Brooks accepted this offer and Corll bought him a green Chevrolet Corvette. He discovered Corll in the act of sexually assaulting two teenage boys, whom he had strapped to a four-poster bed. In December 1970, Brooks entered unannounced into Corll's apartment at 3300 Yorktown Street. Main article: Dean Corll § First known murders Seventeen of these murder victims were buried in a rented boat shed, four were buried in woodland near Lake Sam Rayburn, one was buried on a beach in Jefferson County, and at least six were buried on a beach on the Bolivar Peninsula.Ĭorll is known to have committed one murder, and likely two, prior to Brooks's participation as accomplice. They would then be restrained by either force or deception, and all were killed by either strangulation or shooting with a. In Brooks' oral confession, he admitted that Corll sexually abused him from the age of 12, for which Corll paid him with gifts or cash.Ĭorll's victims were typically lured to a succession of addresses in which he resided between 19 with an offer of a party or a lift. He was one of many children and youths who socialized at the Corll Candy Company, and later admitted Corll was one of few people who did not mock his glasses. Brooks first met Corll while in the sixth grade.

Bolsonaro to retire from politics if not reelected
Tumblr media
Brazil's incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro has announced he would retire from politics if he fails to be reelected next month, when, according to all polls, he trails former head of state Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva.
Bolsonaro will reach election day (Oct. 2) after opening the United Nations General Assembly following a reception with King Charles III in London scheduled presumably for Sept. 18 ahead of Queen Elizabeth's II funeral, according to Brazilian media.
The president said in a podcast late Monday with evangelists that he would retreat to private life if he fails in October. He apologized for having mocked the victims of COVID-19. “If that is God's will I will continue, but if it is not, I will pass the presidential sash and retire, because with my age I have nothing more to do on Earth if my time in politics ends on December 31. We have the same values, homeland, family, property, and freedom,” he said on the evangelist streaming channel Collab.

The Children of Pornhub
Why does Canada allow this company to profit off videos of exploitation and assault?
By Nicholas Kristof, Opinion Columnist, Dec. 4, 2020, New York Times
This article contains descriptions of sexual assault. It’s also really long.
Pornhub prides itself on being the cheery, winking face of naughty, the website that buys a billboard in Times Square and provides snow plows to clear Boston streets. It donates to organizations fighting for racial equality and offers steamy content free to get people through Covid-19 shutdowns.
Yet there’s another side of the company: Its site is infested with rape videos. It monetizes child rapes, revenge pornography, spy cam videos of women showering, racist and misogynist content, and footage of women being asphyxiated in plastic bags. A search for “girls under18” (no space) or “14yo” leads in each case to more than 100,000 videos. Most aren’t of children being assaulted, but too many are.
After a 15-year-old girl went missing in Florida, her mother found her on Pornhub — in 58 sex videos. Sexual assaults on a 14-year-old California girl were posted on Pornhub and were reported to the authorities not by the company but by a classmate who saw the videos. In each case, offenders were arrested for the assaults, but Pornhub escaped responsibility for sharing the videos and profiting from them.
Pornhub is like YouTube in that it allows members of the public to post their own videos. A great majority of the 6.8 million new videos posted on the site each year probably involve consenting adults, but many depict child abuse and nonconsensual violence. Because it’s impossible to be sure whether a youth in a video is 14 or 18, neither Pornhub nor anyone else has a clear idea of how much content is illegal.
Unlike YouTube, Pornhub allows these videos to be downloaded directly from its website. So even if a rape video is removed at the request of the authorities, it may already be too late: The video lives on as it is shared with others or uploaded again and again.
“Pornhub became my trafficker,” a woman named Cali told me. She says she was adopted in the United States from China and then trafficked by her adoptive family and forced to appear in pornographic videos beginning when she was 9. Some videos of her being abused ended up on Pornhub and regularly reappear there, she said.
“I’m still getting sold, even though I’m five years out of that life,” Cali said. Now 23, she is studying in a university and hoping to become a lawyer — but those old videos hang over her.
“I may never be able to get away from this,” she said. “I may be 40 with eight kids, and people are still masturbating to my photos.”
“You type ‘Young Asian’ and you can probably find me,” she added.
Actually, maybe not. Pornhub recently was offering 26,000 videos in response to that search. That doesn’t count videos that show up under “related searches” that Pornhub suggests, including “young tiny teen,” “extra small petite teen,” “tiny Asian teen” or just “young girl.” Nor does it necessarily count videos on a Pornhub channel called “exploited teen Asia.”
I came across many videos on Pornhub that were recordings of assaults on unconscious women and girls. The rapists would open the eyelids of the victims and touch their eyeballs to show that they were nonresponsive.
Pornhub profited this fall from a video of a naked woman being tortured by a gang of men in China. It is monetizing video compilations with titles like “Screaming Teen,” “Degraded Teen” and “Extreme Choking.” Look at a choking video and it may suggest also searching for “She Can’t Breathe.”
It should be possible to be sex positive and Pornhub negative.
Pornhub declined to make executives available on the record, but it provided a statement. “Pornhub is unequivocally committed to combating child sexual abuse material, and has instituted a comprehensive, industry-leading trust and safety policy to identify and eradicate illegal material from our community,” it said. Pornhub added that any assertion that the company allows child videos on the site “is irresponsible and flagrantly untrue.”
II.
At 14, Serena K. Fleites was an A student in Bakersfield, Calif., who had never made out with a boy. But in the eighth grade she developed a crush on a boy a year older, and he asked her to take a naked video of herself. She sent it to him, and this changed her life.
He asked for another, then another; she was nervous but flattered. “That’s when I started getting strange looks in school,” she remembered. He had shared the videos with other boys, and someone posted them on Pornhub.
Fleites’s world imploded. It’s tough enough to be 14 without having your classmates entertain themselves by looking at you naked, and then mocking you as a slut. “People were texting me, if I didn’t send them a video, they were going to send them to my mom,” she said.
The boy was suspended, but Fleites began skipping class because she couldn’t bear the shame. Her mother persuaded Pornhub to remove the videos, and Fleites switched schools. But rumors reached the new school, and soon the videos were uploaded again to Pornhub and other websites.
Fleites quarreled with her mother and began cutting herself. Then one day she went to the medicine cabinet and took every antidepressant pill she could find.
Three days later, she woke up in the hospital, frustrated to be still alive. Next she hanged herself in the bathroom; her little sister found her, and medics revived her.
As Fleites spiraled downward, a friend introduced her to meth and opioids, and she became addicted to both. She dropped out of school and became homeless.
At 16, she advertised on Craigslist and began selling naked photos and videos of herself. It was a way to make a bit of money, and maybe also a way to punish herself. She thought, “I’m not worth anything any more because everybody has already seen my body,” she told me.
Those videos also ended up on Pornhub. Fleites would ask that they be removed. They usually would be, she says — but then would be uploaded again. One naked video of her at 14 had 400,000 views, she says, leaving her afraid to apply for fast-food jobs for fear that someone would recognize her.
So today Fleites, 19, off drugs for a year but unemployed and traumatized, is living in her car in Bakersfield, along with three dogs that have proved more loyal and loving than the human species. She dreams of becoming a vet technician but isn’t sure how to get there. “It’s kind of hard to go to school when you’re living in a car with dogs,” she said.
“I was dumb,” she acknowledged, noting that she had never imagined that the videos could be shared online. “It was one small thing that a teenager does, and it’s crazy how it turns into something so much bigger.
“A whole life can be changed because of one little mistake.”
III.
The problem goes far beyond one company. Indeed, a rival of Pornhub, XVideos, which arguably has even fewer scruples, may attract more visitors. Depictions of child abuse also appear on mainstream sites like Twitter, Reddit and Facebook. And Google supports the business models of companies that thrive on child molestation.
Google returns 920 million videos on a search for “young porn.” Top hits include a video of a naked “very young teen” engaging in sex acts on XVideo along with a video on Pornhub whose title is unprintable here.
I asked the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to compile the number of images, videos and other content related to child sexual exploitation reported to it each year. In 2015, it received reports of 6.5 million videos or other files; in 2017, 20.6 million; and in 2019, 69.2 million.
Facebook removed 12.4 million images related to child exploitation in a three-month period this year. Twitter closed 264,000 accounts in six months last year for engaging in sexual exploitation of children. By contrast, Pornhub notes that the Internet Watch Foundation, an England-based nonprofit that combats child sexual abuse imagery, reported only 118 instances of child sexual abuse imagery on its site over almost three years, seemingly a negligible figure. “Eliminating illegal content is an ongoing battle for every modern content platform, and we are committed to remaining at the forefront,” Pornhub said in its statement.
The Internet Watch Foundation couldn’t explain why its figure for Pornhub is so low. Perhaps it’s because people on Pornhub are inured to the material and unlikely to report it. But if you know what to look for, it’s possible to find hundreds of apparent child sexual abuse videos on Pornhub in 30 minutes. Pornhub has recently offered playlists with names including “less than 18,” “the best collection of young boys” and “under- - age.”
Congress and successive presidents have done almost nothing as this problem has grown. The tech world that made it possible has been mostly passive, in a defensive crouch. But pioneering reporting in 2019 by my Times colleagues has prodded Congress to begin debating competing strategies to address child exploitation.
Concerns about Pornhub are bubbling up. A petition to shut the site down has received 2.1 million signatures. Senator Ben Sasse, a Nebraska Republican, called on the Justice Department to investigate Pornhub. PayPal cut off services for the company, and credit card companies have been asked to do the same. An organization called Traffickinghub, led by an activist named Laila Mickelwait, documents abuses and calls for the site to be shut down. Twenty members of Canada’s Parliament have called on their government to crack down on Pornhub, which is effectively based in Montreal.
“They made money off my pain and suffering,” an 18-year-old woman named Taylor told me. A boyfriend secretly made a video of her performing a sex act when she was 14, and it ended up on Pornhub, the police confirmed. “I went to school the next day and everybody was looking at their phones and me as I walked down the hall,” she added, weeping as she spoke. “They were laughing.”
Taylor said she has twice attempted suicide because of the humiliation and trauma. Like others quoted here, she agreed to tell her story and help document it because she thought it might help other girls avoid suffering as she did.
IV.
Pornhub is owned by Mindgeek, a private pornography conglomerate with more than 100 websites, production companies and brands. Its sites include Redtube, Youporn, XTube, SpankWire, ExtremeTube, Men.com, My Dirty Hobby, Thumbzilla, PornMD, Brazzers and GayTube. There are other major players in porn outside the Mindgeek umbrella, most notably XHamster and XVideos, but Mindgeek is a porn titan. If it operated in another industry, the Justice Department could be discussing an antitrust case against it.
Pornhub and Mindgeek also stand out because of their influence. One study this year by a digital marketing company concluded that Pornhub was the technology company with the third greatest-impact on society in the 21st century, after Facebook and Google but ahead of Microsoft, Apple and Amazon.
Nominally based in Luxembourg for tax reasons, Mindgeek is a private company run from Montreal. It does not disclose who owns it, but it is led by Feras Antoon and David Tassillo, both Canadians, who declined to be interviewed.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada calls himself a feminist and has been proud of his government’s efforts to empower women worldwide. So a question for Trudeau and all Canadians: Why does Canada host a company that inflicts rape videos on the world?
Mindgeek’s moderators are charged with filtering out videos of children, but its business model profits from sex videos starring young people.
“The goal for a content moderator is to let as much content as possible go through,” a former Mindgeek employee told me. He said he believed that the top executives weren’t evil but were focused above all on maximizing revenue.
While Pornhub would not tell me how many moderators it employs, I interviewed one who said that there are about 80 worldwide who work on Mindgeek sites (by comparison, Facebook told me it has 15,000 moderators). With 1.36 million new hours of video uploaded a year to Pornhub, that means that each moderator would have to review hundreds of hours of content each week.
The moderators fast forward through videos, but it’s often difficult to assess whether a person is 14 or 18, or whether torture is real or fake. Most of the underage content involves teenagers, the moderator I spoke with said, but some comes from spy cams in toilets or changing rooms and shows children only 8 to 12.
“The job in itself is soul-destroying,” the moderator said.
Pornhub appears to be increasingly alarmed about civil or criminal liability. Lawyers are circling, and nine women sued the company in federal court after spy cam videos surfaced on Pornhub. The videos were shot in a locker room at Limestone College in South Carolina and showed women showering and changing clothes.
Executives of Pornhub appear in the past to have assumed that they enjoyed immunity under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which protects internet platforms on which members of the public post content. But in 2018 Congress limited Section 230 so that it may not be enough to shield the company, leading Mindgeek to behave better.
It has doubled the number of moderators in the last couple of years, the moderator told me, and this year Pornhub began voluntarily reporting illegal material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. After previously dragging its feet in removing videos of children and nonconsensual content, Pornhub now is responding more rapidly.
It has also compiled a list of banned content. I obtained a copy of this list, and it purports to bar videos with terms or themes like “rape,” “preteen,” “pedophilia” and “bestiality” (it helpfully clarifies that this “includes eels, fish, octopus, insects”). Diapers are OK “if no scatophilia.” Mutilation depends on context but “cannot depict severing parts of the body.”
So while it is now no longer possible to search on Pornhub in English using terms like “underage” or “rape,” the company hasn’t tried hard to eliminate such videos. A member called “13yoboyteen” is allowed to post videos. A search for “r*pe,” turns up 1,901 videos. “Girl with braces” turns up 1,913 videos and suggests also trying “exxxtra small teens.” A search for “13yo” generates 155,000 videos. To be clear, most aren’t of 13-year-olds, but the fact that they’re promoted with that language seems to reflect an effort to attract pedophiles.
Moreover, some videos seem at odds with the list of banned content. “Runaway Girl Gets Ultimatum, Anal or the Streets” is the title of one Pornhub video. Another user posts videos documenting sex with teenage girls as they weep, protest and cry out in pain.
While Pornhub is becoming more careful about videos of potentially litigious Americans, it remains cavalier about overseas victims. One Indonesian video is titled “Junior High School Girl After Class” and shows what appears to be a young teenager having sex. A Chinese sex video, just taken down, was labeled: “Beautiful High School Girl Is Tricked by Classmates and Taken to the Top of a Building Where She Is Insulted and Raped.”
“They’re making money off the worst moment in my life, off my body,” a Colombian teenager who asked to be called Xela, a nickname, told me. Two American men paid her when she was 16 for a sexual encounter that they filmed and then posted on Pornhub. She was one of several Pornhub survivors who told me they had thought of or attempted suicide.
In the last few days as I was completing this article, two new videos of prepubescent girls being assaulted were posted, along with a sex video of a 15-year-old girl who was suicidal after it went online. I don’t see how good-faith moderators could approve any of these videos.
V.
“It’s always going to be online,” Nicole, a British woman who has had naked videos of herself posted and reposted on Pornhub, told me. “That’s my big fear of having kids, them seeing this.”
That’s a recurring theme among survivors: An assault eventually ends, but Pornhub renders the suffering interminable.
Naked videos of Nicole at 15 were posted on Pornhub. Now 19, she has been trying for two years to get them removed.
“Why do videos of me from when I was 15 years old and blackmailed, which is child porn, continuously [get] uploaded?” Nicole protested plaintively to Pornhub last year, in a message. “You really need a better system. … I tried to kill myself multiple times after finding myself reuploaded on your website.”
Nicole’s lawyer, Dani Pinter, says there are still at least three naked videos of Nicole at age 15 or 16 on Pornhub that they are trying to get removed.
“It’s never going to end,” Nicole said. “They’re getting so much money from our trauma.”
Pornhub has introduced software that supposedly can “fingerprint” rape videos and prevent them from being uploaded again. But Vice showed how this technology is easily circumvented on Pornhub.
One Pornhub scandal involved the Girls Do Porn production company, which recruited young women for clothed modeling gigs and then pushed them to perform in sex videos, claiming that the videos would be sold only as DVDs in other countries and would never go online. Reassured that no one would ever know, some of the women agreed — and then were shattered when the footage was aggressively marketed on Pornhub.
Girls Do Porn was prosecuted for sex trafficking and shut down. But those videos continue to surface and resurface on Pornhub; last time I checked, videos of six victims of Girls Do Porn were on Pornhub, which continues to profit from them.
One of the Girls Do Porn women I saw on Pornhub is now dead. She was murdered at 20, allegedly by an angry ex-boyfriend who is about to go on trial. I’m not disclosing her name because she should be remembered as a vibrant college athlete, and not for a sex video that represented her most mortifying moment.
VI.
So what’s the solution?
I had expected the survivors to want to shut down Pornhub and send its executives to prison. Some did, but others were more nuanced. Lydia, now 20, was trafficked as a child and had many rape videos posted on the site. “My stomach hurts all the time” from the tension, she told me, but she doesn’t want to come across as hostile to porn itself.
“I don’t want people to hear ‘No porn!’” Lydia told me. “It’s more like, ‘Stop hurting kids.’”
Susan Padron told me that she had assumed that pornography was consensual, until a boyfriend filmed her in a sex act when she was 15 and posted it on Pornhub. She has struggled since and believes that only people who have confirmed their identities should be allowed to post videos.
Jessica Shumway, who was trafficked and had a customer post a sex video on Pornhub, agrees: “They need to figure out who’s underage in the videos and that there’s consent from everybody in it.”
I asked Leo, 18, who had videos of himself posted on Pornhub when he was 14, what he suggested.
“That’s tough,” he said. “My solution would be to leave porn to professional production companies,” because they require proof of age and consent.
Right now, those companies can’t compete with mostly free sites like Pornhub and XVideos.
“Pornhub has already destroyed the business model for pay sites,” said Stoya, an adult film actress and writer. She, too, thinks all platforms — from YouTube to Pornhub — should require proof of consent to upload videos of private individuals.
Columnists are supposed to offer answers, but I struggle with solutions. If Pornhub curated videos more rigorously, the most offensive material might just move to the dark web or to websites in less regulated countries. Yet at least they would then not be normalized on a mainstream site.
More pressure and less impunity would help. We’re already seeing that limiting Section 230 immunity leads to better self-policing.
And call me a prude, but I don’t see why search engines, banks or credit card companies should bolster a company that monetizes sexual assaults on children or unconscious women. If PayPal can suspend cooperation with Pornhub, so can American Express, Mastercard and Visa.
I don’t see any neat solution. But aside from limiting immunity so that companies are incentivized to behave better, here are three steps that would help: 1.) Allow only verified users to post videos. 2.) Prohibit downloads. 3.) Increase moderation.
These measures wouldn’t kill porn or much bother consumers of it; YouTube thrives without downloads. Siri Dahl, a prominent porn star who does business with Pornhub, told me that my three proposals are “insanely reasonable.”
The world has often been oblivious to child sexual abuse, from the Catholic Church to the Boy Scouts. Too late, we prosecute individuals like Jeffrey Epstein or R. Kelly. But we should also stand up to corporations that systematically exploit children. With Pornhub, we have Jeffrey Epstein times 1,000.

COVID-19 claims another conservative media personality who refused vaccination, opposed masks, and spread disinformation.
"It's awful when anyone catches the virus, much less dies from it, but let's go through a list of reasons Enyart's condition wasn't generating much sympathy from the broader public.
"This is a guy who used to mock AIDS victims on his TV show by reading their obituaries while playing Queen's 'Another One Bites the Dust' in the background.
"This is a guy who filed a lawsuit against Colorado's COVID restrictions, only to have a Trump-appointed judge grant a temporary restraining order that allowed indoor churches to open to the masses without having to wear masks. How many people caught the virus because of that irresponsible lawsuit?
"This is a guy who had 'sworn off' taking any of the available vaccines because 'they tested these three products on the cells of aborted babies.' (That's not accurate.)
"This is a guy who urged people to boycott Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson to 'put pressure on the child killers.'
"There's a long list of other horrible beliefs he's held over the years, but you get the idea. This was someone whose most recent career choices put more people at risk of dying of COVID -- and now he's become a victim of his own delusion. ... He had every opportunity to take precautions and get vaccinated, but he idolized a right-wing conspiracy machine and his ignorance finally caught up with him."

Here's something I'd like to say.
As an Italian girl, I'm deeply ashamed of what has been going on for the last few days and I really have no words to express how outraged I feel.
For those who don't know, it all started when the satirical tv program "Striscia la notizia" broadcasted that awful racial sketch about an actress who portrayed an Italian minister saying a racial slur, resulting into fair controversies around the world.
As if it wasn't enough, after another sketch that mocked Chinese people, last night on the very same tv channel belonging to the Italian mass media company Mediaset, two white, cis males, etherosexual ""comedians"" were allowed to say insulting words like the n-word or other racial and homphobic slurs, declaring that they felt authorised to use such words because they are sick and tired of the "politically correct". Also, they declared that in 2021, gay parades are not that important and if some people are being called "f4ggots" they should laugh because it's not that bad when literally many and many people have been killed, punched, assaulted and banished from their homes because of who they love.
At the same time, luckily there are people who use their privileges to stand up for what's right and give voice to whom can't be listened. Fedez, an Italian rapper who raised thousands and thousands euros during the pandemic to build new mini hospitals and buy medical supplies with his wife Chiara Ferragni, did that. Yesterday night, during an annual concert (with no audience, it was live) he went against a requested censorship by Rai, and expressed his support to the draft law soon to be (hopefully) approved that helps those people who are victims of homophobic acts. He also reported some awful quotes that Lega's advisors (you might know Lega from its political leader mr Matteo Salvini) who said for example -and I quote- "If I had a gay child, I would burn him in the oven" "gay people must start to act normal" and other quotes I don't wanna report.
Today, in Piazza Duomo (Milan) there was a huge gathering of people who were celebrating Inter's championship win. Why didn't the cops stop them? There are still many covid-19 cases here, vaccines aren't enough and we're still giving them to the elderly people.
What's wrong with people lately?
Italy might be a beautiful country full of history and culture, but some people are really ruining its reputation.

I Rewatch Miraculous—Timebreaker
Tumblr media
Three long posts and one Miraculous edit later i return to making posts like these as a way to vent my carefully contained depression, the result of drawn out isolation caused by two of my roommates getting positive Covid-19 test results.
Tumblr media
Oh yes, and this post includes screenshots from the eng sub/french dub episodes, subbed and translated by the good people at Miraculous subs on tumblr.
Anyway, GO!
The number of times i mistake this episode for Timetagger due to their names alone. Also both of the episodes focused on Alix’s watch and its importance involve some form of time travel.
Tumblr media
Marinette’s parents are celebrating their twentieth anniversary during their only child’s thirteenth year. Meaning they waited seven years to have a baby after getting married. That's quite a wait—were they busy getting their bakery set up?
Tumblr media
Still mad the “Alix’s dad is hawk moth and Gabriel is just a red herring” theory was canonically debunked. It’s just so OBVIOUS that hawk moth is Gabriel you figure it out on the first episode. That’s like if Snape really were the one after the sorcerers/philosophers stone.
Don't knock family heirlooms, Alix! At least a pocket watch is somewhat practical even in our modern age. My family heirloom is a hideous glass pig cookie jar. Its in actual pieces and my mom wont let me throw it out because its a “family heirloom.” You mean to tell me i have to pass this hideous thing down to my kids? Nah. Im not doing that. My big brother is the eldest he cant take care of it 😏😏😏
Tumblr media
So do you want to deliver the banner because you promised your friends? Or because you want to see Adrien Either way it’s not a good idea to leave your house when your parents are placing their trust in you to help them with a job.
Tumblr media
Yeaaaaaaah.... i hate to disagree Adrien, but that banner really isn't that impressive.
Really Mari’s designs aren't that great in my opinion. Of everything she’s made i really only like the feather hat
Tumblr media
the dress from the Miraculous Awakening spoilers
Tumblr media
 and her parents’ bakery logo.
Tumblr media
Oh and her little handbag. She mentioned in one of the webisodes she made it herself.
Tumblr media
What exactly has kim made you kiddos do?
“Gotta be careful! Even if you are amazing. At holding things! In your hands!” Marinette, there are some comments that should be placed on the back burner for now and saved for your wedding night. Once again the english dub has made it possible for me to crack yet another suggestive joke. For the record, in the French version she just says he’s “--ly reliable! Amazingly reliable!”
“Adrikins!!! Watcha got there? Some super old case or something?” Im sorry, Chloe, but are you implying you dont know where Adrien got that when you literally watched Alix give that to Alya?
Tumblr media
Adrien’s disgusted face when Chloe insults Alix. I love this boy.
Tumblr media
Didn’t Marinette state during Queen Wasp that a Miraculous is practically indestructible to the point that Chat Noir had to break Chloe’s with his cataclysm? And yet Alix just broke it by... skating over it.
Tumblr media
Then it was broken a second time by someone... dropping it...
Tumblr media
im gonna go out on a limb here and say they just randomly decided to make Alix’s watch a miraculous later on for the sake of having a couple more time travel episodes.
And Nadja is early. Of course she is! THAT WAS ALWAYS A POSSIBILITY MARINETTE!
Adrien being a good boy and telling everyone to run🥰🥰🥰
Rose did you not just see Timebreaker freeze Kim? Don’t grab her hand.
Timebreaker’s superpower is to convert human life force into minutes, and how many minutes she has is how many she gets to go back in time. There's also a gauge on her skates so the amount of time she can go back is preordained. A regular human life doesn’t earn her much but she sucks up a whole six minutes from Chat Noir, who is empowered with one of the strongest Miraculous in existence.Timebreaker’s power is actually kind of cool. Too bad she literally looks like a fly and that just kinda grosses me out.
This moment here
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He went from “Oh shit!!!” to “Yeah I’m feeeeeline~” in like 0.2 seconds pffft
The minute I started falling HARD for the love square.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chat Noir right after Timebreaker pulls her hand away
Tumblr media
And how he appears literally thirty milliseconds later
Tumblr media
Which is why she puts her arms around him.
Tumblr media
Because she can feel how fast he’s fading.
Timebreaker: openly mocks CN’s death.
Cue the Kill Bill music
Meanwhile in LB’s head:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Me too! I WANT TO END HAWKMOTH TOO.
Timebreaker: tries to touch Chat Noir, who just died for Ladybug—not for the last time
LB:
Tumblr media
“Who are you?!” Mari you know how fucking screwed you be if that were not Future You but another akuma victim??? Like they could easily take you out and then where would we be?
“How do i get myself into these crazy situations?” You are a superhero at war with a psychopath. That’s how.
Tumblr media
“Two ladybugs? I’m in Heaven!” Ahem what exactly goes on in this fictional heaven of yours, kitty??? (he’s a fourteen year old boy and he’s not half as innocent as everyone believes him to be. Why am i even asking?)
Tumblr media
This isn’t Full House. There's no need to include an IMPORTANT LIFE LESSON at the end of every episode
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is it about this scene that is so unsettling? It’s like... they’re trying to imply Tom knows Mari is ladybug or something even though that’s clearly not true at this point.
And there you have it! One of ny fave episodes from s1 and its mostly time travel hijinks—something i developed a strong hatred of in Kingdom Hearts has been somewhat redeemed in Miraculous. Who woulda thought it?

This is the latest edition of our column that excavates the origins of public figures’ factually dubious comments. We explain what their claims are referring to, the evidence (or lack thereof) behind them and where they sprang from in the first place.
Who said what …
On July 19, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia tweeted the following: “The controversial #COVID19 vaccines should not be forced on our military for a virus that is not dangerous for non-obese people and those under 65. With 6,000 vax related deaths and many concerning side effects reported, the vax should be a choice not a mandate for everyone.” Because her post contained several false statements, Twitter labelled it “misleading” and issued a 12-hour ban on her account for violating the service’s COVID-19 misleading information policy. Greene’s claims that there have been 6,000 “vax related” deaths and that COVID-19 is “not dangerous” for people who aren’t obese or over 65 are both inaccurate. Among the more than 163 million people who have gotten the COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S., 6,207 deaths1 have been reported according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but there is no evidence those were “vax related deaths.” And while obesity and old age are risk factors for COVID-19, they are not the only ones, and the disease is still dangerous for people without those risk factors.
Some background …
Since the earliest days of the pandemic, researchers have been studying which kinds of comorbidities can make someone more likely to have a severe case of COVID-19 that could lead to hospitalization or death. After a year and a half, it’s clear obesity or old age does make someone more susceptible. But so do lots of other conditions. The CDC lists 17 categories, including cancer, pregnancy and chronic lung diseases. But otherwise healthy people can also become seriously ill from COVID-19, not to mention die from it. To claim that the novel coronavirus is “not dangerous” for anyone who isn’t obese or over 65 is wildly inaccurate. And focusing on obesity as though it were the only risk factor for severe COVID-19 is a trend among right-wing communities that combines two parallel threads in online subcultures: the anti-vax community’s belief that a healthy lifestyle and one’s natural immune system are as effective as vaccination in preventing disease and the right-wing troll culture’s long fixation on fat shaming.
In a press conference about the Twitter ban, Greene tried to clarify her statement, saying she “was talking about the highest amount of deaths, the highest risk factor” and that “78 percent of people that were hospitalized and died were obese.” That stat is based on a CDC study from March, but it comes with some caveats. First, this figure includes people who are considered  obese and people who are considered overweight. Second, 73.6 percent of Americans age 20 or over are considered overweight or obese, according to the CDC. While the numbers for people with obesity are still higher among COVID-19 patients who were hospitalized, needed a ventilator, or died, the stat Greene cited is a bit like surveying COVID-19 cases at a sorority house and finding that 100 percent of the hospitalizations occurred among women. And that’s not even taking into account that the measurement used to diagnose obesity — the body mass index — is flawed, at best.
There is no denying that obesity is a risk factor for more severe COVID-19 infections. Compared with people with a healthy weight, obese people who contract COVID-19 are 113 percent more likely to be hospitalized, 74 percent more likely to be put in intensive care, and 48 percent more likely to die, according to a meta-analysis published in August in the journal Obesity Reviews. But obesity is not the only, or even necessarily the highest, risk factor for more severe COVID-19 infections. Smokers, for instance, have a 40-50 percent higher risk of severe disease or death from COVID-19 compared with nonsmokers, according to the World Health Organization. People diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease who contract COVID-19 have a 30 percent higher risk of death than people without Parkinson’s, according to a University of Iowa study published in September. And pregnant women who get COVID-19 are 70 percent more likely to die than those who aren’t pregnant, according to the CDC.
But Greene didn’t tweet that people who don’t smoke, aren’t pregnant or don’t have Parkinson’s disease have nothing to fear from COVID-19. She specifically singled out obesity, something many right-wing communities online have done since the start of the pandemic.
Where the comment came from …
A common refrain in this online community is that the only people at risk for severe COVID-19 infections are those who are considered either overweight or obese. Occasionally, other medical risk factors are mentioned, but there seems to be a particular focus on obesity. On patriots.win, a forum for supporters of former President Donald Trump, there are dozens of posts about obesity being a risk factor for COVID-19, many of which are scrutinizing news reports of deaths to give an armchair diagnosis of the victims. “The vaccine would not have saved her son. He’s obese and looks unhealthy,” said one post sharing a screengrab of a Daily Mail article about an Alabama woman who regretted not having her son, who died of COVID-19, vaccinated. “Vulnerable remain vulnerable even with vaccine,” the post claims.
After the CDC published its finding that 78 percent of hospitalized COVID-19 patients were considered overweight or obese, this statistic became a frequent (and often misquoted) datapoint in right-wing and anti-vax communities online. In May, Jordan Sather, a QAnon influencer shared a video with his tens of thousands of followers on the messaging app Telegram of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio promoting vaccinations. Many responded with inaccurate quips about COVID-19 affecting only obese people. “They know that obese was 90% of the reason people were in the hospital for COVID?! I guess they don’t believe in the science,” one follower wrote. “Aren’t 80 percent of all C19 deaths from obese people? Hmmm…” wrote another.
There’s a long history of right-wing groups fat-shaming people online. To wit: an appreciable contingent of subscribers to the now-banned subreddit r/fatpeoplehate — which existed only to mock and criticize people who are overweight in the most vitriolic terms possible  — moved over to the now-also-banned subreddit r/The_Donald, where Trump supporters posted right-wing memes and discussions. Of course, fat-shaming online is not limited to right-wing trolls. It’s incredibly widespread, and many on the left are just as guilty of it — consider House Speaker Nancy Pelosi publicly fat-shaming Trump on live television, or the droves of internet users who have criticized measures to prioritize obese people for the COVID-19 vaccine, or reward vaccination with free goodies like Krispy Kreme doughnuts. But it does hold a particularly pernicious and prevalent role in right-wing communities online. The fixation on obesity as if it were the only, or most important, risk factor for severe COVID-19 infections is just the latest in right-wing trolls’ longstanding tradition of attacking overweight people online.

Trump Republicans have spent the last four years, and a significant amount of time before that, calling liberals everything from “snowflakes” to horrible slurs (please see: literally any prominent liberal woman’s Twitter mentions). If we complain, they say we’re “triggered,” even though a “trigger” refers to a serious thing that causes pain, suffering, anxiety, and panic, often in people with PTSD, like military veterans. They’ve called us “libtards,” pairing our political affiliation with a slur against the disabled community. They wave flags that say “Fuck your feelings,” and “Make liberals cry again,” and then they expect us to turn around and be... kind to them? To offer them solace as they work through their feelings as they realize they lost? I don’t think so.
To me, Marc D’Amico’s tweet above is equivalent to suggesting that a bullying victim has a responsibility to treat the bully with the decency and kindness they sought from them. It’s utterly absurd and clearly won’t solve any problems.
And as Ben Rhodes points out above, we also tried this tactic for 8 years and Republicans didn’t magically become kind and compromising. Without anyone willing to fight back their worst impulses, they became much, much worse.
We cannot and will not utilize the tactics of Trump Republicans against them, because the Democratic Party and the people who support it are generally not the kind of people who would throw out slurs, mock disability or trauma, or vote for a candidate who intentionally excludes certain groups of people. We actually care about people and policy and how it affects peoples’ lives. And it’s important to note that all of our policies - on healthcare, COVID-19, climate change, gun control, and more - will protect Trump supporters. They will save Trump supporters’ lives. Not because they asked us to. Not because we feel particularly sympathetic toward them. Just because we know it’s the right thing to do for all of us.
So it is more than fair for us to party in the street and shout “Fuck Trump” and play FDT every time we see a Trump rally. Given everything he has taken from us and the fact that his supporters have shown us zero empathy, we are more than entitled to celebrate our victory and ignore every Trump supporter in our lives for as long as we want. They chose to mock us instead of making any attempt to reconcile with us or reach out and show basic human decency. They have made many of us feel unsafe, even in our own homes. We are under no obligation to reach out to them now.
TLDR; Saying “Fuck Trump” and shutting out the people who supported him does not show a lack of decorum or civility or whatever other bullshit conservatives will claim. It’s called standing up for ourselves. And it’s about time.

Calacus Weekly Hit & Miss – Tom Daley & Kentaro Kobayashi
Every Monday we look at the best and worst communicators in the sports world from the previous week.
HIT – TOM DALEY
Tom Daley is finally an Olympic champion.
After 13 years of trying, Daley, alongside diving partner Matty Lee, won Team GB’s second gold medal of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with victory in the men’s synchronised 10 metres platform.
"I still can't honestly believe what is happening.” Daley said. “That moment, being about to be announced as Olympic champions, I was gone. I was blubbering. To finally have this around my neck, I've been diving over 20 years.
"Lots of people would have counted me out but I'm in the best shape and with the support with Matty, we've had that unstoppable mentality this year and that's the first time I've ever been able to think like that.”
After winning Olympic gold medal at the fourth attempt, Daley must feel like an enormous weight has been lifted from his shoulders.
Ever since he burst onto the international stage at the Beijing Games in 2008, aged just 14, he has been in ever-present in the British media, not least as a result of the huge expectations he has faced from such a young age, but also because of his private life.
From the media attention about moving schools after being bullied in the wake of his initial diving success, to losing his dad Robert, who died following a battle with brain cancer, Daley has faced so many challenges on his long journey to Olympic glory.
The public eye has also constantly scrutinised his sexuality. Speaking on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in 2018, Daley admitted that he often felt inferior to everyone because of his uncertainty regarding his sexuality.
But since coming out as gay in 2013, Daley has been a real inspiration and role model for so many young, gay people.
Tumblr media
After winning gold, he said: “I came out in 2013 and when I was younger I always felt like the one that was alone and different and didn’t fit. There was something about me that was never going to be as good as what society wanted me to be.
“I feel incredible proud to say that I am a gay man and also an Olympic champion.”
He added: "I am a gay man and also an Olympic champion. And I feel very empowered by that because when I was younger I felt I was never going to achieve anything because of who I was."
Olympic gold arrives in Daley’s first Games since become a father to son Robbie - who is named after his late father.
“Being a father was a massive turning point in my career as an athlete,” Daley admitted. “I realised whether I did really well or terribly I can go home to a husband and son who love me regardless.
“Feeling that and knowing that love is unconditional, I can take that pressure off myself, enjoy it and say I'm doing it because I love to do it.”
Speaking about his husband and his child in front of the world media, next to athletes from China, a country where neither would be permitted for a gay man, Daley continues to act as a key spokesperson for the LGBTQ+ community and for LGBTQ+ rights.
His words have been widely praised by sporting stars, with Gary Lineker tweeting: “Absolute inspiration to so many. Well said and well played @TomDaley1994”.
Two-time Olympic champion rower James Cracknell also praised Daley on Twitter, saying: “So pleased for @tomdaley pioneered for his sport, was overwhelminghly supportive when other divers won GB’s first diving gold in 2016. But backed himself to perform in @tokyo2020 enjoy it and well done @mattydiver”.
Daley has overcome so many obstacles in his journey to achieving Olympic success, which highlight just how mentally strong and how much of role model he is.
Still just 27, he has played a vital role in transforming the sport of diving in the UK over the years and continues to inspire the next generation of athletes.
Tom Daley has captured the hearts of a nation and is a deserved Olympic hero.
MISS – KENTARO KOBAYASHI
The Olympic Games may be somewhat different this year, given the delays and lack of crowds and visitors caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
But the Games have always stood for inclusion, friendship and respect for others.
So it was no surprise that the show director of the Tokyo 2020 opening ceremony was dismissed a day before the event was held after offensive comments were discovered from the 1990s.
Footage emerged of Kentaro Kobayashi, a former member of a popular comedy duo Rahmens , in which he appeared to make jokes about the Holocaust and was quoted saying “Let’s play massacre the Jews.”
Given the terrible loss of life to military and civilians, including a quarter of a million people killed by the nuclear bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Kobayashi’s comments could not have been less appropriate.
Kobayashi at least issued a statement responding to his dismissal and said: “It should never be the job of an entertainer to make people feel uncomfortable.
“I understand that my choice of words at the time was wrong, and I regret it. I would like to apologise for making people feel uncomfortable. I am very sorry.”
The Simon Wiesenthal Center condemned the anti-Semitic ‘jokes’ with Global Social Action Director, Rabbi Abraham Cooper saying: “Any person, no matter how creative, does not have the right to mock the victims of the Nazi genocide.
“The Nazi regime also gassed Germans with disabilities. Any association of this person to the Tokyo Olympics would insult the memory of six million Jews and make a cruel mockery of the Paralympics.”
Tumblr media
Kobayashi’s departure is the fourth senior Tokyo 2020 executive to depart ahead of the Games.
Earlier last week, one of the event’s composers, Keigo Oyamada, resigned after old magazine interviews resurfaced in which he joked about bullying other children at school, including classmates with intellectual disabilities.
In March, creative chief Hiroshi Sasaki quit after suggesting that plus-size comedian Naomi Watanabe could appear as an ‘Olympig’ while in February, Yoshiro Mori was forced to resign as the head of the organising committee after he made remarks that women talked too much and that meetings with female board directors would “take a lot of time.”
Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee President Seiko Hashimoto said of Kobayashi’s dismissal: “We found out that Mr. Kobayashi, in his own performance, has used a phrase ridiculing a historical tragedy.
“We deeply apologise for causing such a development the day before the opening ceremony and for causing troubles and concerns to many involved parties as well as the people in Tokyo and the rest of the country.”
Another embarrassing scandal in Japan revolving around the Olympic Games can be an opportunity, according to Sayuri Shirai, a professor of economics at Japan's Keio University.
“Discrimination was never a major issue, so many people are careless. A lot of foreign media pay so much attention (to the Olympic Games), so every negative issue is under the spotlight...
“People are starting to be more sensitive about discriminatory expression," she said, adding that the scandals was a “good opportunity for Japan” to think more about discrimination and diversity.

The wages of stupidity.
Tumblr media
August 23, 2021
As the Delta variant rampages across the country, MAGA covidiots continue to resist any efforts whatsoever to mitigate the death and suffering — especially among children — caused by the disease. It's what Ryan Cooper in The Week calls "the stubborn entitlement of a reactionary minority." But many of the anti-vaxxers, mask opposers and COVID deniers, who have been so eager to help spread the disease, are themselves falling victim to it. What a shame.
Wisconsin state senator Andre Jacque was recently hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19. The Republican was one of the state's most outspoken lawmakers against vaccine mandates, also opposing his governor's statewide mask mandate.
Dickinson, TX City Council member and State Republican Executive Committee member H. Scott Apley died two weeks ago due to complications from COVID-19. Apley consistently mocked vaccines and masks on social media.
Greenville County, SC Republican Party leader Pressley Stutts died last week after battling COVID-19 for nearly a month. Only days earlier, he told his followers no one should be forced to wear a mask or get vaccinated.
Dick Farrel, a rightwing Florida TV and radio host, who was a loudmouthed critic of Dr. Anthony Fauci and who urged his listeners not to get vaccinated against Covid-19, died recently after contracting the virus.
Another conservative Florida radio host, Marc Bernier, who has spoken out at length against the coronavirus vaccine, was admitted to a Daytona Beach area hospital after contracting COVID-19.
Radio host, Phil Valentine, is now in a Nashville, TN critical care unit with COVID-19. Last spring Valentine compared hospital workers asked to indicate their vaccine status on their ID badges to Jews who were forced to wear yellow stars in Nazi Germany.
Dr. Jimmy DeYoung, a conservative Christian radio gabber, died recently in Chattanooga, TN of Covid-19. In a published interview in February, DeYoung declared (among other lies) that the Pfizer vaccine would make women sterile.
We should probably also mention Catholic Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke (pictured above applauding the reaping of more souls), who has been hospitalized with COVID-19 and placed on a ventilator. The prelate had championed the bogus notion that the vaccines carry hidden microchips making individuals susceptible to government control.
Nobody wants someone else to contract COVID-19. But it's hard to muster much sympathy for the posturing politicians and propaganda pushers who enabled the virus while thousands perished. Instead, we'll quote from Clarence Darrow's 1932 memoirs: “I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.”

Rolling Stone 'Horse Dewormer' Hit-Piece Debunked After Hospital Says No Ivermectin Overdoses
After Joe Rogan announced that he'd kicked Covid in just a few days using a cocktail of drugs, including Ivermectin - an anti-parasitic prescribed for humans for over 35 years, with over 4 billion doses administered (and most recently as a Covid-19 treatment), the left quickly started mocking Rogan for having taken a 'horse dewormer' due to its dual use in livestock.
Rolling Stone's Jon Blistein led the charge:
On Friday, Rolling Stone's Peter Wade took another stab - publishing a hit piece claiming that Oklahoma ERs were overflowing with people 'overdosing on horse dewormer.'
It was suspect from the beginning.
The report, sourced to local Oaklahoma outlet KFOR's Katelyn Ogle, cites Oklahoma ER doctor Dr. Jason McElyea - who claimed that people overdosing on ivermectin horse dewormer are causing emergency rooms to be "so backed up that gunshot victims were having hard times getting" access to health facilities.
As people take the drug, McElyea said patients have arrived at hospitals with negative reactions like nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, and cramping — or even loss of sight.“The scariest one that I’ve heard of and seen is people coming in with vision loss,” the doctor said. -Rolling Stone
Except, the article provided zero evidence for McElyea's claims, causing people to start asking questions.
Good stock photo though: gun shot victims standing in line at the hospital while wearing winter coates in August. Total horse shit.
And while neither KFOR or Rolling Stone mention the hospital McElyea worked for, NHS Sequoyah, located in Sallisaw, Oklahoma - just issued a statement disavowing McElyea's claims, which pops up when you visit their website.
It reads:
Although Dr. Jason McElyea is not an employee of NHS Sequoyah, he is affiliated with a medical staffing group that provides coverage for our emergency room.
With that said, Dr. McElyea has not worked at our Sallisaw location in over 2 months.
NHS Sequoyah has not treated any patients due to complications related to taking ivermectin. This includes not treating any patients for ivermectin overdose.
All patients who have visited our emergency room have received medical attention as appropriate. Our hospital has not had to turn away any patients seeking emergency care.
We want to reassure our community that our staff is working hard to provide quality healthcare to all patients. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify this issue and as always, we value our community’s support.
What about the rest of the state?
According to Scott Schaeffer, managing director of the Oklahoma Center for Poison and Drug Information, "Since the beginning of May, we’ve received reports of 11 people being exposed to ivermectin," he told the NY Daily News (which still pushed the 'ivermectin overdoses' story despite this fact).
Meanwhile, this horseshit story has also been picked up by the far-left Business Insider and The Independent, as well as The Guardian, among other notable outlets.
Nobody even bothered to call the hospital where this guy claims to work. https://t.co/rCbgcvOoOa pic.twitter.com/wXjncinhQX
If Rolling Stone had only called the hospital to verify. Shocking.
And of course, the story was breathlessly parroted
McElyea is also listed as working at Integris Grove Hospital in Grove, OK as a general family practitioner - not in the ER. A phone call to them provided no insight as to any ivermectin overdoses, however the gentleman who answered the phone sounded quite amused. What's more, Grove, OK - with a population of 7,129, had just 14 aggravated assaults in all of 2019 according to the FBI's latest data. We somehow doubt that 'gunshot victims were lining up outside the ER,' while just 11 ivermectin related hospital cases have been reported in the entire state since the beginning of May

What’s been your experience of knowing a person of each Enneagram type?
It’s nothing if not interesting. 😉
1s: can be principled, dutiful, and reliable. Their pet peeve is for people to be rude, irresponsible, inconsiderate, or late. I’ve known an sp 1 and a soc 1. The sp 1 does indeed resemble a 6 due to content fretting, low self esteem, terror of getting it wrong, and general anxiety, but shows 1 behaviors of obsessive cleaning, a desperate need to control everything, and rigidity in setting up “house rules.” In so doing, she has denied herself anything that is not “useful,” which I find terribly sad. She has no room for pleasure in her life. The soc 1 is far more inclined to be assertive, to correct others, to point out what they are doing wrong, and to show her anger. Much less self doubt.
2s: ah, 2s. I’ve known a few marginally and one “sort of” well, since I spent ten days with her on a visit to another state. She truly reminded me of Molly Weasley in her bustling about, her attending to everyone’s numerous needs (and ability to keep us all in line), her pride in doing things for everyone, and her sensitivities. At one point, her daughter told her, “MOM, STOP MOLLY WEASLEY-ING CHARITY! SHE’S FINE. SHE DOESN’T NEED WATER. THANKS.” Ha, ha. I liked her a great deal, but it amused me how defensively she drove – under stress, I saw her 8 come out, though I didn’t know that’s what it was at the time. We all snapped to attention whenever that happened.
3s: I admire their work ethic but… the one I know offline has to find some way to impress people, no matter what. If that is in showing you his muscles and making sure you know how far he biked today, so be it. It used to be because he was proud of his professional life. Since retirement, I have seen him struggle enormously with having a sense of purpose and trying to find one that doesn’t hinge on his non-existent work. That is what worries me about 3s – getting old, and no longer having society regard them as “useful and essential” is HELL on them. Please, make sure, if you are a 3, to do the internal work on figuring out who you are, and recognizing your own worth as separate from what you do, before you reach that age.
4s: I have known a lot of 4s, some healthy and some not. I have two delightful healthy ones in my life right now – an sp/sx 4 and an soc/sp 4, and they are indeed different. The sp 4 is more internal and less aware of or inclined to change herself for others; the soc 4 looks outward, and is highly attentive to other people. Sp 4 can take on others’ pain and burdens in a sense and feel overwhelmed by it – and with both of these beautiful girls, I’ve seen it turn them toward compassion. But they do tend to run high on “drama.” It’s not a song, it’s an opera. I knew an unhealthy 4 once who was hell-bound to remain miserable and a victim wallowing in her pain and thwarted (almost sadistically gleefully) anyone’s attempts to help her rise above her bad situation. She wanted to stay there. And she drove everyone who knew her insane. Eventually, she lost all her friends due to her being the wet mop all the time -- which of course, fed into her sadistic happiness at being miserable, abandoned, and unloved.
5s: can be callous at times, just because they are so lacking in emotional self-awareness and so fixated on logical solutions, but they will give it to you straight if you ask for it. They tend toward severe social awkwardness—think Mr. Darcy at the Netherfield Ball. Most inclined to disappear five minutes after you meet them and remain unseen until you leave. I knew a five once, the father of a friend, who would call out hello to me as he walked right past me, straight down into the basement, where he hid for hours among his books. Given he had a house full of giggling, silly girls, I don’t blame him. He was truly Mr. Bennet.
6s: can be either the warmest, funniest, most loyal people you will ever meet – or the biggest pains in the butt, and I say that as a 6. I know one other sp 6 and he reminds me of myself, just older and male – we both are hilarious, we both tease people to establish a rapport with them, we both crave feedback and support from trusted others, and we both swing between concern and optimism. But unhealthy, paranoid 6s are out in force right now freaking everyone out about the COVID-19 and the world doesn’t need that. It needs HOPE. So for heaven’s sake, put down the freak-outs, the paranoid accusations, the wild conspiracy theories, and accept that your worst-case scenario projections are just that -- the product of your own scared mind. It may or may not happen, and trust me, 6s, I know damn well that your worst fears usually don’t happen anywhere except in your head.
7s: are enormous fun to go on vacation with, but can be flakes. Lovable ones, but still flakes. They promise more than they can deliver and then avoid you rather than face up to the music when they realize they don’t want to do what they promised. They are hilarious, witty, optimistic, and their enthusiasm is infectious, but sometimes they fail to realize that not everyone wants to be endlessly teased, mocked, or come home to a mountain of stuff followed by a maxed-out credit card bill. Life is not always a joke, sometimes it is serious. And they are inclined not to finish a serious conversation if it in any way makes them uncomfortable or feel like they’re about to confront part of themselves.
8s: I have only known one and… there are things I like about her. Her courage. Her ballsy attitude. This woman made a place for herself in a man’s world, in a time when that was not done. She bulldozed her way to the top. Unfortunately, she never shut off the bulldozer. She has burned bridges behind her, made countless enemies, and gets into foolish personal and legal fights because she refuses to back down from anyone, and will turn anything into an argument. She lost my mother as a friend, because she thought bullying her was a good idea. My mother set up polite boundaries and the 8 trampled them, something my mother does not forgive. Something 8s need to remember – what is fun for you (you consider fighting “bonding”) is not always fun for someone else who is not an 8. Being an 8 is an asset, but only if you learn to tell the difference between a threat and a non-threat.
9s: are some of the most precious people on earth, but also the must frustrating for me, because I see them being mercilessly treated by the rest of the world, which tends to walk all over them. I wind up counseling 9 friends who are frustrated at ‘not being heard’ but cannot find it within themselves to assert themselves in any way, or think they deserve to be heard, or know how to recognize what is NOT okay. Being a 9, a peacemaker, someone able to understand everyone’s point of view, is a valuable gift, but you cannot use it for good if you are incapable of believing you deserve good things, too.
Each Enneagram type has a health level. You can find them at the Enneagram Institute. Figure out which level is ‘you’ and start working toward the next one up, through conscious choices. You don’t have to stay this way. Your life is yours to command.1s, you don’t have to be perfect. 2s, you don’t have to please others. 3s, you don’t have to win every time. 4s, you don’t have to stay in a place of self-loathing. 5s, you don’t have to fear trying things. 6s, you don’t have to be afraid all the time. 7s, you don’t have to run away from everything. 8s, you don’t have to turn every discussion into a fight. 9s, you don’t have to give everyone whatever they want. It’s time to take back your life.
- ENFP Mod
PS: Most of these examples come from my extended family, none of whom follow this blog, so if you’re one of my friends (unless you are the 4) -- I’m not talking about you. ;)
