Question: One of my favorite things about Supernatural is the music, and I was curious if you guys remember your first concert experience, and who was it that you went and saw?
Jared: Yep, I remember - I don't remember which one was first, but I [???] I saw En Vogue open for Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer.
Jensen: [makes face, covers his eyes with his hand]
Jared: [rests his arm on Jensen's back] And not a word of a lie, my mom - I don't remember which was first. But for my birthday I really wanted to go to this other concert, so my mom took me. And I like begged and my birthday passed, couldn't get tickets. Christmas came, I got tickets or whatever. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Jensen: [shakes his head]
Jared: I'm not fucking kidding. It was TMNT, yeah. And I'm proud of that!
Jensen: [incredulous] En Vogue?
Jared: It was a triple header, it was En Vogue, Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer. All of that [???]. It was probably like 92 or -
Jensen: Were you too legit to quit?
Audience member: You're never gonna get it!
Jared: [makes comically amused face and points, claps]
Jensen: [makes 🤯 gesture] [sings] Never gonna get it, never gonna get it ... Um, right. Mine's not quite as embarrassing. My first concert, my mother took me with her sister my aunt - and I don't remember the story, I forget why I went and why like my brother and my sister - well, my sister wasn't quite born yet. But I don't know why my brother didn't go.
Jared: He was at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with me.
Jensen: [laughs] Yeah, he was at En Vogue with you. But I was six years old and it was - it scared the crap out of me. It was at Texas Stadium and it was Michael Jackson Thriller Tour. [Jared jawdrops] My first concert ever. And I was terrified because all the lights were down and then these big monsters started coming out on stage [makes weird vague movements to imitate monsters] and then, I mean, it was like, oh my gosh, what's happening, the roar of the crowd - I'd never been in a crowd that big, and then he came out and he just blew the roof off the place. That's why it doesn't have a roof. Um, and then the first concert that I went to on my own volition was Van Halen with Sammy Hagar.

PLEASE share some of your favourite books!!! of all time And ones that you discovered this year!! (also only just noticed your header… i love those two <3)
omg anon i would love nothing more!
books of all-time: the secret history & the goldfinch by donna tartt, the haunting of hill house & we've always lived in the castle by shirley jackson, the night circus by erin morgenstern, the immortalists by chloe benjamin, lincoln highway by amor towles, say nothing by patrick radden keefe, the collector by john fowles, never let me go by kazuo ishiguro, tell the wolves i'm home by carol rifka brunt, the night tiger by yangsze choo, the shadow of the wind by carlos ruiz zafon, in the woods & the likeness by tana french, and the bell by iris murdoch.
i'm sure there are some i'm forgetting; i'm sorry to those books!
i try to read a broad range of genres & sub-genres, but my soft spots are magical realism, the promise of an ambiguous and bittersweet resolution, family sagas (or a codependent pair of siblings who are all the other has in the world), novels strongly influenced by classic literature, and unconventional murder mysteries.
and this year, i have favorites for all of the above!
magical realism: the house of the spirits by isabelle allende; ashamed i had not read this classic before, but i arrived at the party and i never wanted to leave.
also recommend: the light pirate by lily brooks-dalton
bittersweet: the memory police by yoko ogawa; more like bittersweet from beginning to end, and haunting. so very haunting.
also recommend: we all want impossible things by catherine newman (if you read the blurb, you'll understand why this is bittersweet, but it is also the funniest book i read all year)
family saga: tom lake by ann patchett; my book of the year, a beautiful exploration of mothers and daughters, our town by thornton wilder, first loves, and the summer stock theater scene.
classic influence: the historian by elizabeth kostova; brilliant take on dracula and vampiric folklore.
also recommend: state of wonder by ann patchett (a heart of darkness, but with women in the amazon!); demon copperhead by barbara kingsolver (tbh i felt it follows david copperfield a bit too closely, but her writing! oh her writing!)
unconventional murder mystery: i have some questions for you by rebecca makkai; not too unconventional, but it has some great takes on the true crime industry.
and since those are all fiction, i'll also add, for non-fiction, that i really loved the wager by david grann, the extraordinary life of an ordinary man by paul newman, and the premonition by michael lewis (great for anyone interested in what america's pandemic response was supposed to be, how it was developed, and why it went so wrong in 2020)
alright wow, this got so long—i'm so sorry! i'd love to hear what everyone else's favorite books they read this year are!

chapter 2: a stranger calls my name
So we three were kids, starting to slowly become insane without knowing. Summer was slowly glowing out as we cracked the books open and chose a brand new backpack for the school year. I bought a new headband for the first day of school (also to be worn for the yearbook picture) and I was very in love with it; it was brown with polka dots in my favorite color at the moment, aqua. I was 10, I had opened my Facebook page that summer, eventhough I hadn’t discovered YouTube just yet. Michael Jackson had died only a year ago, Hannah Montana had still six months of airing ahead, and Jason Derulo “in my head” was going to be playing everyday on my cd player radio at 6am while getting ready for school.
Olivia, Ella and I were hanging out together already, and we were paired together in the same classroom (not that the possibility of being split apart had crossed our minds). I was jumping around as I used to do, waiting for our new english teacher, Miss. Diana, to open the dumb door to the classroom and let us in. All three of us foaming at the mouth knowing we could choose our sits for the first day. “Hurry up!” I said under my breath, my purple backpack on my shoulders and my long bob with layers resting over it.
All my classmates walked into the classroom: it was weirdly laid out but I had already chosen a spot by the second I laid eyes on it. In the middle of the classroom, surrounded by many desks forming teams of five or six, there was this different laid out team with only three desks. I could feel our three names carved in the wood. I looked to each side of me, knowing Ella and Olivia were thinking the same thing, and sprinted to our sits flinging my things over the desk on the left, feeling as if everyone had wanted these sits. Ella sitting across me, Olivia to my left in the header. Our teacher gave us a welcome speech and I listened, very excited for everything, and followed whatever instructions but the minute she gave us school work, I was ready to chat with my friends.
“Okay, so I thought of a way the superheroes game can improve. We have to make more maps for Syndrome’s lab AND design our clothes.”
“We should. I think I’m buying the stabilo fineliners. 60 colors.”
“What? Where did you even get that?”
Olivia shrugged in her nonchalant careless way.
“Okay. Look around. Are there any new cool people?”
I took a look as Ella requested. Who did I don’t know? A blonde girl with green-green eyes, sitting with Mary Jane, the pretty girl who enroled in school last year, same Time as Ella, who was part of the popular girls. Apart from her, the only new face was a guy with dirty blond hair. I noticed a tiger-y look in his eyes and freckles, and the obvious heartthrob of the year air around him, for he had light colored eyes. I know new students tend to grab a lot of attention, but having the only two new people be agressively blond and blue/green eyed was too obvious: they were popular kids already in the making. I was already looking into them, trying to see how much their egos would grow.
“He’s kinda cute” said Ella leaning in so we could hear her whisper. I shrugged, trying to stay out of that.
My friends and I talked away about which classmates we had gotten in our class that were in the other class last year and were glad to see that some bullies were not there, even if worse people were paired with us too. Then we got to work on writting down the class rules and other stuff but I was still thinking of designing our rooms and clothes for my superhero and civilian selves. I was about to make the game become stupidly elaborate, cause I could see a new world of possibilities in the civilian aspect of that game: I had to ask my parents for a notebook.
It was finally 11am and we could go out for recess.
“Come with me to the cafeteria” Olivia never brought lunch to school. Not after that chaotic week in 2007 where she tried to and ended up destroying both her meal and her luchbox. “Guys, should I get spicy gummies or sour gummies?”
 “Oh, I prefer the sour-”
“nah, I think I want spicy gummies today”
Ella smacked Olivia’s head in all Ella’s fashion, and they would have gone on with the fight if it wasn’t her turn to order junk food for lunch. She got a bottle of iced tea and industrially packaged chocolate croissants as always. And the spicy gummies, and also some candy. We three were already eating the candy while walking to the main courtyard to find somewhere to sit, while already bickering again.
“Give me some” I said, trying to get the candy from Ella.
“You want some?” I knew Ella was about to be annoying. “Try to get it, Rees” She was holding the candy as high as she possibly could, laughing at our ten centimeters height difference too early in the day.
“Agh, don’t be a cunt Ella! I’m not even short.” I said as I nudged her in the ribs. Me and my friends used curse words as if they were normal. I have never used as many curse words in my life as I did from the ages of nine to 11.
“Ouch! You are, though” She was still laughing, handing me the candy.
“I am not.”
“Hey, Rees” The new boy greeted me as he was walking by, heading towards the cafeteria. I was confused for a second.
“Hey” I said back.
“Give me that”
The new kid looked me in the eye and smiled, then ducked his sight to the floor without having stopped to talked to us.
“You ARE a bit shorter” Olivia punched me in the arm to get the candy from me.
“See? Even Olivia says you’re smaller!!”
“Those are lies! You and I are the same height!” I said resuming the argument.
“No, she’s definitely one centimeter taller” Ella was noticeable taller than us, but Olivia and I had always been just average.
“Whatever, stop eating my food... so quickly.” We laughed a little, knowing she always ended up sharing when she had had enough sugar.
His eyes didn’t look full of himself and they were gray, not exactly blue. I was confused for a minute, thinking about how he seemed nice and I had already imagined him to be a yerk. It was cool that he knew my name... But it was also a little weird to me. How did he know my name and why didn’t he say hi to my friends? Rude? I mean, I have been in school for longer than them but that would make no difference. Maybe he was slowly learning all our class’ names. He seemed alright, after all I was being mean to a new kid and he seemed shier and more lonely than I had imagined him to be. “Hey, Rees” It stucked in my head, the way the last note in his voice went down. It sounded so casual. It felt cool to hear your name from somebody else.
We three got to the courtyard still fighting a little until we started talking about TV. Olivia loveeeed the Wizards of Waverly Place.
