- I own a teapot and I find it invaluable, hehe. They’re like 10 bucks, and honestly tea and ramen just aren’t the same microwaved. (This is what americans usually do iirc- or boil the water/tea in a pot. So hot tea isn’t really popular to people who aren’t foodies. I don’t know many ppl who actually own a teapot. We sell them, but they’re considered kind of....old fashioned. imo) Plus, it’s easier for multiple servings- if there are two or more of you, you can each have tea, or the one pot can service both your ramen bowl and a cup of tea. Speaking of boiling water, though...while it does steam, your Keurig does not boil water. It’s acceptable for making coffee imo, but if your town has a boil order, do not use your keurig (unless you boiled some water to pour into its tank jdslkfjsl)

SIARGAO – GOING AROUND TOWN

Never had I imagined that Siargao will become a hot tourist destination. The Island back then was only famous among surfers because of Cloud 9. I would think though that for some, they only see Siargao in the beauty of General Luna, since most of the resorts are situated there. But the island, as a matter of fact, has nine municipalities. You might have noticed it when you arrived at Sayak airport, and each of this town has beautiful spots to look out for:

1)      Dapa – the locals consider the place as the center of the Island. It’s our go-to place to do grocery, buy household stuffs, bank transactions, etc. However, goods are still limited and you cannot expect that you’ll find your favorite brand/s here. It’s also a bit pricey. TIP: Buy enough of everything that you will need before coming to the Island, especially if you are traveling with kids/babies.

In Dapa, you can go to Guiwan to surf. You will pass by this town when going to General Luna.

2)      General Luna a.k.a GL – need I say anything here? J  As a homegrown Siargao kid, I am proud that this town is progressing quite fast. Back then, there was only Rambo’s resort. I am not sure but the locals told me it’s now Dedon. And Dedon is like the grandest resort in town. I’m actually one of the lucky souls who got the chance to visit the resort before it was opened to public (or did Rambo even open it to public before, I don’t know).

If I have to recommend, however, I would go for these resorts:

Isla Cabana – if you are looking for a beautiful beach front view, don’t hesitate to book at Isla Cabana. I highly recommend this place as I personally stayed here and I would say I was in love with their cabanas. I know you can still visit Isla Cabana for lunch or sightseeing if you are staying in a different resort.

Siargao Bleu – my friends and I were supposed to stay here during our 4-day vacation, unfortunately, there were sudden changes in the plan, so we had to cancel the booking. Sobs*

Villa Maya – if only I had known this resort before, I could’ve booked here instead of renting an apartment type room. Reading travel blogs is the key. It would help you a LOT.

Harana Surf – this resort is highly to be fully booked. I suggest you book a month before your scheduled visit.

Kermit Siargao – the best way to mingle with tourists is to be in a place with a vibrant common area, and Kermit wins in this category for me.

Don’t ever leave GL without trying to surf and going to three (3) most visited islands: Guyam , Daku and, Naked. It means small, big, respectively and Naked because it’s literally bare.

3)      Pilar – have you heard of Magpupungko rock pools? Great if you do! It’s one of the MUST-visit destinations in Siargao. Apart from that, Pilar is also known for the yearly International Fishing Competition. If you want to see gigantic fishes more than you can ever imagine, go schedule a visit here and include it into your itinerary. I am not sure of the schedule, though, but I think it happens every April. I suggest you keep yourself updated by checking the province’ official website at http://www.surigaodelnorte.website/.

4)      San Isidro – our go-to place in this town is Barangay Pacifico. It’s one of the places where I created so much childhood swimming memories with my family. Now, the barangay is slowly becoming a major tourist destination as well. The last time I went, there are quite a number of cute and trendy resorts already. If you are looking for an alternative location to stay in Siargao, I would recommend you stay at Bamboo resort. It’s quite far from GL though.

5)      Burgos – if you are planning to road trip Siargao, don’t forget to include this town in your itinerary and you will see a great overlooking view. I just can’t post the video here, but there’s really a spot where I think is a great location for a summer themed music video, (imagining it now hehe).

6)      Santa Monica a.k.a Sapao – I know weird but my favorite spot here is at the end of the port. It’s bare and all but it looked so good on pictures, haha. In Sapao, you can go to Taktak falls, Alegria beach strip and Denaville beach resort.

By the way, since I mentioned port, Siargao has 4 operational ports. There’s one in Dapa, Sapao, Del Carmen and Bucas Grande. There are regular boat schedules from Surigao City and vice-versa.            

7)      San Benito­ – In San Benito, you can go to Pagbasayan island or formerly known as Puyo or Island in English. I haven’t been there lately, but according to those who recently visited the place, you can already stay overnight, go on camping. During the day, you can enjoy water activities like banana boating, etc…

8)      Del Carmen a.k.a Numancia – Del Carmen is famous for its beautiful mangroves. Before you actually reached the port of Del Carmen from Surigao City, you will pass by a maze of mangroves. When I was still a kid, I know of Del Carmen because of the crocodiles. YES, big big crocodiles. They used to have a big cage in the port area full of crocs. Don’t be afraid though because the crocs aren’t there anymore and the place is SAFE. They are probably chilling somewhere but definitely NOT in Sugba lagoon. Sugba is a hidden paradise in the outskirt of Del Carmen. What made it so beautiful is its emerald waters and the foliage surrounding the area.

9)      Socorro a.k.a Bucas Grande – an island in an island. Bucas Grande is famous for Sohoton cave and non-sting jelly fish. What I want to visit is the Club Tara resort. Haven’t gotten the chance to go to Bucas Grande yet, so I don’t really have much to say about the town. I’m sure, though, that it’s equally beautiful as GL.
