Hawkins high school gym was crowded, the music and the laughter of some of the recent graduates filled the mood of the prom night party.

A romantic song began to play and the couples made their way to the dance floor. One of them was quite unique. He was tall, his curly hair was long and he was dressed all in black. She was shorter, her blonde strawberry hair only reached her shoulders matching her pretty pale pink dress. Some glances were on them but they didn't care. They were a weird lovely couple after all.

Her arms were around his shoulders and his hands were firmly around her waist. As they danced softly, she pulled slightly away and on her tiptoes she whispered in his ear:

– You've made it Eddie. This is your year. I'm so happy for you.

– Thank you sweetheart but you are wrong, this isn't my year, it's our year my dear Chrissy.

They looked at each other sweetly and pressed their foreheads together, still moving to the soft rhythm of the music.

Chrissy sympathetically patted his hand. "You'll find someone, I'm sure."

Eddie laughed bitterly. "I don't think I will."

"Why not?" Chrissy frowned and looked up at him.

He was staring pointedly at the wall across the room, not looking at her. He clenched and unclenched his jaw before pursing his lips and shaking his head. "Just, they're not..."

"Not what?" Chrissy lightly traced her fingers up and down the veins in Eddie's forearm.

"C'mon, you're really gonna make me say it?" He turned to look down at her and adjusted his arm so he could take Chrissy's hand in his own and lace their fingers together.

"Well, yeah, I'm not a mind reader."

Eddie shook his head again. Chrissy wanted to squirm under the familiar intensity of his gaze. "They're not you, Chris."

OR

Eddie and Chrissy have succeeded at being friends for the eight months since they broke up. They should be able to fool around no problem, right? Right??
