Beyond The Mat: Part Two
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Female!Reader
Word Count: ~1.9k
Warnings: canon angst and violence
Summary: Dean opts to take a break from your normal mess and attend the funeral of a beloved wrestler. While there, you have some fun watching a wrestling match, getting drunk with the wrestlers, and, oh yeah, slaying demons.
Season Eleven Masterlist
Author’s Note: I do not own anything from Supernatural. All credit goes to their respective owners. I love seeing any and all comments <3

Hellrazor and Gunner jump into the ring together and the match begins. Hellrazor runs at Gunner who kicks him in the stomach from the corner. Hellrazor falls back and Gunner steps onto the rope and holds onto the post at the corner to keep himself from falling off. He smiles at the crowd before jumping for Hellrazor who punches him in the stomach right before he can hit him. Gunner doubles over in pain and Hellrazor throws Gunner out of the ring who lands right next to Dean's feet.
"Get up! Get up, buddy!" Sam cheers.
"Come on, man!"
"You can do it, Gunnar. Get up, buddy!"
Gunner looks at Dean and winks at him before standing up. Hellrazor jumps out of the ring and grabs a foldable chair that is lying off to the side. Gunner turns and Hellrazor smacks the man in the stomach with the chair. The crowd encourages Gunner to get back on top, and Hellrazor grabs Gunner to throw him back into the ring.
Hellrazor comes at Gunner from behind and puts him in a headlock, and it looks like he is going to lose the match.
"Get out of it!" Sam yells from the crowd.
Suddenly, Gunner stomps his foot while pumping his fist into the air. The entire crowd chants his name, giving Gunner the confidence he news. He runs Hellrazor back into the corner of the ring and into the wooden post, causing the wrestler to let go of him. Gunner circles the ring, runs at Hellrazor, and punches him in the stomach. Hellrazor stumbles forward and Gunner strides around the ring as the crowd cheers. Gunner throws Hellrazor against the ropes of the ring and catches his throat when he bounces back to him.
"Up and over! Up and over!" Dean shouts.
Gunner lifts Hellrazor and slams him to the ground. The referee jumps in and slaps the ground three times before a bell rings. Gunner wins the match. Everyone in the audience stands and cheers for their favorite wrestler including Sam, Dean, and now Noah. Even through all the screaming and cheering, you can hear the man behind you talk to his son.
"I have to take a piss. Be good."
You look behind you to see the man leave his son to use the bathroom.
"Oh, but it's all over now, folks," Rio announces.
Nothing can ruin this match or Dean's good mood. Oh, wait, except for one thing. A dead body. It didn't take long for someone to find the body of the man who left his son to go to the bathroom. Police and ambulance come as soon as they are called, and Sam and Dean immediately get into FBI character. Sam talks to the police about what happened to the man while you wait with Dean and Noah off to the side.
"What did they say?" Dean asks when Sam comes back.
"You're not gonna believe this. The body was marked."
Sam takes out his phone and shows a picture of the body. It's only the back but there are scratches and cuts all over it.
"By what? Did he get in a tickle fight with Edward Scissorhands?"
"Look closer. The cuts look deliberate, you know? Ritualistic."
"You think this is a case?" you ask.
"You two think it's not?"
Dean pauses before speaking. "Okay. What are you thinking?"
"I don't know. A witch, maybe? You know what? I'll head back to the motel and look into the symbol."
"I'll stay here and work the crowd."
Sam departs from the group and you and Noah follow Dean into the empty building. Everyone was escorted when word got out that there was a dead person right outside. However, none of the wrestlers are inside the building. No one to question. The only thing that's there is the empty ring that Dean can't take his eyes off.
"Hello? FBi. I have some questions." No one answers. "Bueller? Gunner? Rio?"
Dean looks around to check that no one is coming before rolling right into the ring. You take a seat where you were before and look at Noah who is tapping his toes eagerly on the ground.
"Go. One one would judge you."
Noah doesn't have to be told twice. He rolls into the ring the same way that Dean did, and both of them pretend there is a crowd cheering for them. Dean and Noah bounce off the ropes, and your husband grabs his son and flips him over as if he is going to wrestle him. Noah laughs and tries to overtake Dean but he's much smaller. Dean struts across the ring, imitating the strut that Ric Flair did when he was in his prime.
Dean jumps onto the corner of the ring like Gunner did earlier, and he raises his hands in the air. A door opens from behind you, and Dean immediately jumps off the ropes. Suddenly, he's shy. Noah gets out of the ring and stands next to you while Dean turns to see who just came in.
"Nice moves," Rio chuckles. Dean tries to exit the ring gracefully by rolling through the ropes. Instead, he rolls over the second rope and lands heavily and awkwardly. You can't help but laugh but Rio is more concerned. "Oh, my God. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm good." Dean remembers what he came in here for and takes out his FBI badge. "I'm Agent, uh, Roussimoff, FBI."
"You were at the wake, weren't you?"
"I was. Yeah, and then the body dropped, and back on the clock. Did you know the deceased?"
"Not really. I just sold him tickets. He has a kid, right?"
"Yeah."
"Wow. Maybe my boys are right. Maybe we really are cursed."
"Cursed?" you ask and stand up.
"Back in Shreveport, our first stop on the tour, a maintenance guy found a body stashed in a dumpster behind the VFW, and now this."
"Can I get a list of your whole crew? Wrestlers, roadies, and anybody that you roll with?"
"Sure, but we use locals for all the setups and concessions. I can only afford to travel with my boys."
"Where would they be right now?" you ask.
"Try the nearest bar. I know that's where I'll be."
"Okay, thanks."
As soon as Riop leaves, Dean clutches his back since that fall hurt him. He's getting too old for moves like that.
"Poor baby, did you hurt yourself?"
"Yeah," Dean says like a child.
"Come on, you overgrown child," you laugh. You three head to the bar where all the wrestlers are including some of the locals. A man lifts a woman onto the pool table, and she sways softly to the music playing. One of the wrestlers takes a bottle and pours the alcohol into a woman's mouth from above. You pull Noah closer to you and grab his hand. "Stay right next to me, okay?"
Noah looks around the bar, mesmerized. "You got it."
Gunner sits at the bar alone with a drink in front of him, and Dean sits right next to him. You sit next to Dean and keep Noah between you and Dean.
"Hey. Dean, right?" Gunner asks.
"Yeah."
"Did you enjoy the show?"
"Yeah, it was awesome. You were great. After the show, not so much."
"Yeah, I heard. It's a damn shame."
"Yeah." Gunner throws back his drink with ease. "Listen, that's kind of why we're here."
Dean takes out his FBI badge to show he's all business right now.
"Kind of buried the lead on that one, huh?"
"Listen, we hear this isn't the first murder at one of these shows," you say.
"It's a rough crowd inside the ring and out." Gunner rolls up his sleeve and shows a scar. "In '92, I'm leaving the ring and some damn reprobate goes at me with a broken beer bottle."
"Wow." Dean lifts his leg and shows Gunner a scar on his leg. "A couple of years ago, a perp got the drop on me and decided to take a chunk of my leg as a keepsake."
Gunner holds up his hand and shows him a half-fist and crooked fingers.
"See this right here? This is as far as I can bend these thanks to good ol' Jonah Rancid and all four hundred pounds of him just dropping down on me."
"I got a scar on my arm from my friend's dog," Noah says.
"Be thankful that's all you got, kid." Gunner looks at you and Dean. "I've been beaten up, spit on, stabbed, and roughed up, but I will be damned if I didn't always get back up. One thing I learned, is that you have to keep on grinding no matter what's thrown your way."
If only; he knew you and Dean have died and come back to life multiple times.
"Damn, you're awesome," Dean chuckles.
"Tell that to my ex-wives."
Dean's phone rings and he excuses himself to answer Sam's call.
"What's up?"
"A lot, actually. Uh, so at every stop on the Top Notch tour, somebody turned up dead. It didn't all happen at the venue, and most of them look like accidents, but they all had the symbol... Hangman, too."
"I thought he killed himself."
"Yeah, that's what Rio said, but the cops are treating it like an open case. They're thinking, and I quote, 'It's some kind of weird satanic shit.'"
"Awesome," Dean sighs.
"Wait, it gets better. That symbol is ancient Sumerian. It's said to have the power to 'pluck the spark of life'."
"What does that mean?"
"Souls, maybe?"
"So, we're talking demons?"
"It's worth checking out."
"Rio told me they use the locals to set up the venue, so it can't be them."
"It has to be one of the wrestlers, then."
"Maybe. Alright, get over here."
"What are you going to do?"
"I'm working on it." Dean motions for you to join him, and you and Noah leave Gunner's side. "Sam thinks it's demons. At every stop, someone has died with that same symbol on them, including Hangman. If Rio says they use the locals to step up..."
"It has to be one of the wrestlers then. What are you thinking of doing?"
Before Dean can answer, one of the wrestlers yells for one of the bartenders. You pull Noah closer to you since you're now in protective Mama Bear mode. You know a drunk man when you hear one.
"Yo! Sweetheart! Hit me again!"
"Hey, Harley, go easy. I think you've had enough," Gunner says.
"Fuck off."
"Just trying to help."
"Like you helped me in Fort Worth?" Harley and Gunner face each other with very different expressions on their faces. "What? You think I don't know you got me kicked off the card?"
"You wouldn't job to Crazy D, and I couldn't abide by that."
"Yeah, I think you just can't stand the thought of me stealing your thunder."
"Kid, I got no worries about that."
Harley nods and turns as if he's about to leave but then turns back and swings a punch at Gunner who crumbles to the ground. Rio jumps up and immediately rushes over to pull Harley away.
"Alright. That's enough."
"Get up, old man, or do you need your go-juice?" Rio looks at Harley. "That's right. I saw him and his dealer. Your golden boy's a fucking junkie."
"He's lying," Gunner says.
Harley jumps to attack him again but Rio pushes him away before he can get far.
"Alright! Hey, Harley, we have two days until Memphis. Sleep it off." she turns to Gunner who is still on the floor. "Gunnar, I'll talk to you about this tomorrow." She pushes Harley away. "Go."
Dean jumps to Gunner's side and offers a hand to help him up which Gunner accepts.
"Are you okay?" you ask.
"Yeah. I've been hit harder by guys a lot tougher."
"Why did you fight back?" Dean asks.
"I have nothing to prove."
Another wrestler comes over to Gunner.
"You okay, boss?"
"Yeah. Just another day, huh?"

This last chapter was so fun! Out of curiosity, are there any characters you know for sure aren't going to get corrupted by evil energy in the story, and if so, what sort of powers do you think they would gain from hypothetically being corrupted? (No worries if this would be a spoiler / you want to keep all characters on the table for that sort of plot point)
Thanks for the question! This chapter has been fun to write <3
No Recut spoilers in the following:
...Maybe they all won’t? Or maybe no one will ;) (...there are like over 100 Robot Masters I think?), though I probably won’t say who will/won’t to avoid spoilers in the event other characters DO become evil energy hosts (who knows~~~ but also, y’know, process of elimination haha). Even if characters never become corrupted (such as humans who can’t possess evil energy) their corrupted state reveals a lot about their inner nature; i.e. their evil energy personas are deeply connected with their 'true essence', albeit a very warped, evil, crazy version of that—so it can reveal a lot about their character if that makes sense. (I.e. ‘Hellrazor’ is a monstrous manifestation of Punk’s rebellion; ‘Curator’ is a monstrous manifestation of Jewel Man’s liking of collecting and taking care of fine things; 'Knitter’…likes to knit lol. Not saying it’s necessarily deep lol). But needless to say, it's also a manifestation of their dark side too, heh. Either way, gotta save any good stuff for the fic. :D
One that’s not a spoiler is Proto Man’s evil energy ego, ‘Void’ who I’ve made a few posts about (here, here, and here). ‘Void’ isn’t planned to appear in canon, though it’d be fun to explore him in a whot-if AU sense (unfortunately my idea for it would have heavy spoilers for season 3 (even his power set?) unless I just do like a short prologue, but that would be just a teaser…)
Another character who is out is Snake Man (who died-ish ) though I have no big head canons on this—it’s a little complicated due to what happened after he ‘died’ :)
Hoping to do a post after Teleportation Tangles part 4 detailing corrupted designs more, or maybe I’ll start here? As some noticed, I used the Mega Man Battle Network series for inspiration for Punk’s evil energy ego. While I’m not necessarily going to do that again, there are other MMBN designs that would work okay-ish for an evil energy alter ego base (by being sinister/otherworldly looking (okay MMBN designs are supposed to be digital version of the classic but whatever)) not the main cast per se, mainly for minor Recut characters in the event they become a host (but again could also go in completely different direction!).
…Sorry if this ramble didn’t answer your question at all lol but thanks for reading the episode! Hope to have Teleportation Tangle part 4 in the coming weeks~

GuitarWorld: “I did everything by working my ass off. I played in bars six nights a week, 300 shows a year, three one-hour sets every night for eight years with no record deal”: Evanescence’s Troy McLawhorn on his guitar firsts, favorites and embarrassing moments https://trib.al/khFs88q
Interview Behind The Read More
In this Inquirer column, we reach out to Troy McLawhorn of Evanescence to answer the essential questions in any guitar player’s life. We’re talking first songs learned, first guitars played, and what would McLawhorn do if he had a time machine?
Well, maybe we know the answer to that – he’d take that damned trench coat back to the store…
What was your first guitar?
“My mom and dad had guitars in the house, and though they didn’t play them that much, those were the first guitars I grew up playing on. The one I really started to learn how to play on was my mom's nylon-string classical guitar.
“I played that for years before they bought me my first guitar, which I picked out in a music store down the street from my house. It had a black Gibson Explorer-style body with a maple neck and was made by a company called Lotus.”
What was the first song you learned to play?
“House of the Rising Sun by the Animals. I figured out the chords and then gave a little concert to my mom and dad. I was around 12.”
Do you remember your first gig?
“My first gigs were playing at parties. In my hometown, older kids would have what they called keg parties, where they’d buy a couple of kegs of beer and have a band play. So my first gigs were in people’s backyards, playing at parties for older people who were getting drunk. One of the earliest bands I can remember being in at the time was Hellrazor. By default, our only payment was beer.”
Ever had an embarrassing moment on stage?
“I can't think of anything in particular that occurred in Evanescence, but I do remember one embarrassing moment back in the early ’90s when I was in Still Rain. Whenever I performed, I’d wear snakeskin boots and a leather trench coat that went all the way down to the ground.
“One night, I was playing a solo at the front of the stage and totally rocking out. When I was done, I took a step back, but because my trench coat was so long, I stepped on it and couldn’t stand up straight.
“Each time I tried stepping back, the trench coat got shorter and shorter, until I fell down on stage on my back into the drum kit. I rolled around for a second so I could get my shit together, and I finally got up.”
What’s your favorite piece of gear?
“One piece of gear that I regret letting go of was a Mesa Boogie Mark IV. It was a combo that had a beautiful tweed front. As for my favorite, it’s my 1985 Gibson Les Paul Custom that was given to me for my birthday by a good friend.
“It was used when I got it, but it’s a beautiful guitar that’s got this amazing piece of leather artwork on the front. I’ve never seen anything like it and it just sounds and plays great.”
Suppose the building is burning down; what one guitar from your collection would you save?
“My wife gave me a really great American Telecaster for Christmas a few years back. It’s one of my favorite guitars to play when I’m at home, and it means a lot to me because my wife gave it to me.”
When was the last time you practiced and what did you play?
“It would’ve been last night before the show. I warm up before every show, playing guitar for 20 or 30 minutes. I will usually go through some exercises, and maybe a couple of things in the show that I may have fucked up the night before.
“I don’t really have a routine, as I don’t actually sit down and practice all that much when on tour, as I concentrate on maintaining and getting ready for the show I’m about to play. But when I’m home, I practice a lot and like to learn new things.”
What aspect of the guitar would you like to improve?
“I’d love to have more of a knowledge of music theory. Growing up, I learned everything by ear. I just listened to records and tried to figure out what I could. I think it would be great to have more of an educated knowledge of theory and scales and all that stuff.”
What advice would you give to your younger self?
“I’d say invent a time machine so it can take you to now, where you could watch YouTube videos! I think it’s amazing that kids have YouTube now, because it would’ve been a whole different thing for me if I had all the knowledge that’s on YouTube."
“I did everything I could by working my ass off. I played in bars five and six nights a week, playing 300 shows a year, playing three one-hour sets every night for about eight years with no record deal. The experience was amazing. I don’t know what more I could have done outside of what we did in that time.”
Fallen (20th Anniversary) is out now via Craft Recordings.
