4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

I wanna put him in, like, emiya-san chi no kyou no gohan or post True Ending Heaven's Feel if you catch my drift? Like, let the boy be adopted by Shirou and Sakura and eat good food and live a good life, for fuck's sake, and I could even argue that Shirou and Sakura, who were both hurt by a terrible system in their lives and such but managed to leave it all behind (HF), would be the perfect parents for him. Oh but Little Busters tho!! Let him be roped into their shenanigans, that'd be hilarious.

All in all, though, I think I want him in some low-stakes slice-of-life story because he deserves a god-damned break.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

He reads a lot of books as escapism, to help him deal with his bleak reality— he could taste what it's like to be a person, even if for only when he's immersed in the book. Or just to get some flavor in his life when it is so utterly void of anything that could give him emotions. Books also help him avoid talking to people, as he doesn't want to get attached when he knows he's gonna die anyways. Maybe if he got out of his situation or was never in it, maybe he would've picked something else.

14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.

I don't have the names for this but I love this sort of big blocky silhouettes from loose baggy clothes if you get what I mean? Clothes that don't hug his body snugly. Clothes that even give him a sense of freedom, perhaps. I don't think his uniform style in canon was necessarily chosen by him really.

Stuff like these, perhaps? With baggy pants, with skirts, either way works— I see him as particularly feminine-leaning ever since I saw this wonderful meta post and I can't unsee it anymore.

hmm,,, well, i suppose i haven't said much of anything about the antagonist yet?

so, without giving too much away, the villain of the story is simply referred to as the Wolf (proper noun, the capitalization is important). it is, as you could prolly guess, the monstrous talking wolf that appears in ziggs' dreams after the wolf attack. it thrives off of ziggy's fear of it, and it has a rather unpredictable temper. one second it'll be mockingly fawning over ziggs, the next it'll be shouting at and insulting them. but, it's also a bit of a coward, so it makes itself as intimidating as possible to keep ziggs scared of it. also, from a meta level, i imagine that the Wolf could easily be played by any hf performer, gender be damned. but i've personally been flip-flopping between imagining it with joey or dylan's voice.

It’s been a few months since I finished FSN, and I feel like I’ve gotten enough space from it to really say this. But I know who my favorite heroine is.

I always assumed it would be Rin, but it’s definitely Sakura.

I feel like Rin and Saber are pretty equal in my mind right now, but I just really love Sakura.

Like, she’s just such a great character. I always assumed that she was going to be a plot device as someone for Shirou to save and as someone to be pitied. But she’s not! She’s her own character.

She gets jealous, she gets angry, she gets happy and sad, she’s her own character and so much more than just someone to be pitied. Yeah her life has been tough, but she’s so strong, and I just really love her.

And she’s such a good fit for Shirou. Shirou wants to protect someone, to save someone, and Sakura was waiting for someone to rescue her for so long.

I was going to say this before with that big post about what it's like to be aro in fan spaces and talk about how this affects Waver meta, but I'm a really really really big hater of ships where someone's PTSD is essentially "fixed" by the presence of another person

because it just does not, can not and will not ever work like that. Having a supportive partner is fantastic, and it can really make a difference, but it can not and will not ever cure your PTSD or fix it. A person can not have that role in your life. It is literally unhealthy to put that burden on one solitary person. That's why people need support networks. More than one person in their life!! But even moreso it's not healthy for YOU to believe one person can fix everything, or that "if I was just with that one person" that it'd fix everything... And seeing that reflected in Waver's treatment in fan spaces pisses me off SOOOO BAD

Waver really gets this treatment from fans extremely bad, and honest to god I found it difficult for quite a while to find any good meta or writing about Waver that wouldn't just come straight back to "and he's in love with Iskandar!!!" like... I seriously am tired of it. I want people to understand the role that Iskandar played in Waver's life, yes, I want them to understand how that's important to Waver, but I don't want them falling into the same thought-trap that Waver has for 10 years in that he believes his entire life revolves around him 😭😭😭 A man who has been dead for over over 2000 years 😭😭😭 A man who is LITERALLY REKNOWNED for being emotionally stifled and fucked up, a man whose entire legacy is basically going back to that point, in that he did not understand his own desires or emotions, and so he pushed his army further and further blindly towards something that doesn't exist. For a fleeting dream he could not fulfill.

Shipping is fun and all but there's a point where it fucking dominates the narrative!!! And I'm so sick and tired of that!!! I want to know who Waver is AS A PERSON !!!!! I want him to be able to discover that too. I want him to understand who he is outside of the lense of Alexander the Great. I want him to go beyond that. To me, at least, he already has gone beyond by the sheer fact that he actively chooses to be kind and understand others. That is literally something that Iskandar does not do. Yes lol even in his fictionalized version. And then there's the fact that canonically Iskandar doesn't see Waver as a partner 😭 OR AS ANYONE SPECIAL BC THERES BEEN A THOUSAND PEOPLE LIKE WAVER IN HIS LIFE 😭😭😭 COME ONNNN WHERE IS THE REAL HEPHAESTION ALSO!!

I believe Waver deserves support, but I believe he deserves more friends than just Iskandar, I believe that Waver does have a sense of being jaded after meeting, and I also believe that continually attaching Alexander age 15 to him as his "student" (see: parasite) is intentional to keep weirdo shippers attached to this concept and keep money flow in. Lol. At the least we get to see plenty of Waver w/o Iskandar involved and understand who he is as a person more frequently these days. I get fed a lot in terms of Waver healing from trauma. Makoto Sanda knows exactly what the fuck he is doing I'm not even joking, CF is basically tailor made to me

...but there's another character who bothers me with this and it's Sakura and Shirou and the ending of HF in general 😭😭😭 I dislike the idea that these two "saved each other" because I don't think that's accurate to their characters, or what they have to heal from, or their personalities when entwined with trauma and trauma reactions. I think Sakura's capacity for violence and misinterpretation needs to be confronted! Shirou casting aside his ideals of saving the entire world and choosing just one person doesn't fix his trauma. It just modifies one aspect of it. His self-destructive tendencies are all still there !!! Yeesh. I could have more to say about this I need to eat rn.

LETTTSSSS GOOOO AAAAAA THIS GOT SUPER LONG I tried to list everyone I can remember and who has some backstory sdjsjdkdj

Disclaimer: I’ve only read MTMTE/LL. My knowledge about any other continuity is based on Fanfic and random tumblr meta I’ve read.

Also, in theory, all of these characters are from different universes and wouldn’t have met, if it weren’t for those meddling Lost Light shenanigans…  There is a very loose background story connecting all the different universes.

(Namely, the LL that hopped universes keeps on hopping, and because unfortunate circumstances, it keeps homing in on Megatron. This is due to their first jump landing them in a SG universe where the Decepticons lost, and the resident Starscream shoved all of his surviving companions into different universes to save them. Of course, the LL wants to help, but Starscream thought it was a VERY good idea to first get his lover leader back and messed with their technology. It stops being funny after the third time they find themselves at the hands of very a pissed and murderous war lord.)

But enough of that! They do find a few Megatrons that are a bit more chill. I wish I had pics of all of them, but alas. One day. All of them get nicknames, because else it would be very confusing.

 TFA Megatron: Codename “Juno”, he/him, far over 17 million y/o. HF age: 60 - 70

He’s from a heavily modified AU where he was constructed as a kind of middle man between the protectobot high command and the warframe army. Even back then the civilian bots didn’t like to be confronted with the people that fought their wars for them, so they build new ones. Juno is at least glad that he got a pretty face out of the deal.

He learned to fight relatively late, had been sent to the battlefield as a last resort in a loosing battle against some organic planet, and Strika saved his life. They have been best buds ever since and go through thick and thin.

After the organic wars there was a short rest period on cybertron, but soon war frames were pushed to the edges of society, the rise of Megazarak, Juno joining him, the great cybertronian war, Junos overthrowal of Megazarak, and eventually Juno lost the war, but all the Decepticons (war frames and civilian alike) retreat to a new home planet.

Juno himself is. Old, worn, but still very much at the top of his game! He never crash lands on earth, but he does end up being captured by Autobot high command, and our Lost Lighters arrive just in time for him to break out.

He, Strika and Lugnut end up hopping universes with them when the LL is attacked by the TFA autobots, and Juno is delighted by how fucking shitty every other Megatron is. He won the fucking moral high ground game by loosing the war! He has bragging rights. He might still have done terrible things, but, shush!! Let him have this.

The subsequent name change comes because he really doesn’t like being shot at. Plus, after 17 million years, its time for a rebranding! His favourite activity is beating up (killing) other Megatrons. Not just because they are assholes, but to prove that he’s still got it! AU optimus primes look at him like “how did u do that” and Juno be like “What, like, is it supposed to be hard?”

He’s also delighted to tell you that, no, he does NOT fucking know who Optimus Prime is.

Besides all that, he’s the “sick cat of the multiverse”. He might be a super soldier, but you can bet that one day he’s gonna have a sparkattack and randomly die. He has a ton of scars and as a HF, a lot of them are visible. His spark is not really the strongest anymore, due to the previous loss of a conjunx, and by honour of being old as balls.

His storyline is basically “Have fun while you still can, and admit that you would really love to be in a polycule with Strika and Lugnut”.

 TFA Megatron: Codename “Junior”, he/him, just scratching 1 million. A baby. HF age: 20

He’s basically Juno from an earlier point in time. Doesn’t yet know Strika, has no battlefield experience. A real baby. Lies about his age to get into bars. Probably shouldn’t do half the stuff he gets up to.

Junior and Juno develop a father-child bond, but both would deny it under torture. Until Junior saves Junos life, that is, but they don’t talk about that.

He hates his nickname and is soon best friends with Rodimus who finds his existence delightful, because they are the same breed of young reckless dumbass.

 G1 Megatron: Codename “Molly”, she/her, only available as human, age: 50

Just an older gal living her best life in some desert. Wears tight leather pants, high heels and white shirts with a deep neckline. Sings Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” very well and very loud at her favourite bars karaoke nights. A delight to be around, if she says so herself. Still yearning for that sweet trucker gal she met on the road years ago.  Might still have ties to gangs. Drives a motorcycle.

This universe is more of a rest stop for the LL, and coincidentally it’s also a Wings!AU. Molly has Californian Condor wings.

 IDW Megatron: Codename “Billy”, he/him, only available as human, age: ~ 200

A right mean bastard. Lives in the Magnus Archives universe, and a Hunter Avatar by nature. Although, he wouldn’t define himself as such. Sure, he’s a hunter, but doesn’t that encapsulate so many more fears? The fear of being Watched in the Dark, and Slaughtered for Meat in the End?

He would say that he has had honest and good intentions. He thought himself so great when he was young and killed his first monster! But then the monsters didn’t stop. And after so many years, well, he paved his road with good intentions, and it’s leading him right down to hell. He might have killed a few more humans than necessary. But oh, it is for the greater good! And he can hardly stop now.

Someday, there will be a new, fresh hunter, with enough determination to finally take him out. He’s made his peace with that. He does hope they will stuff his shaggy hide and display it in a trophy room.

Only Megs so far who wears plaid shirts. Is actually nice to be around, if he isn’t actively after you. Hunts Pigs for sport.

Also the only one I’ve drawn so far. His Hunter form would be a irish wolfhound. With a few more jaws than neseccary.

I think that’s all of the bigger ones so far ssdjsdjsdhshshdlf. Juno really is my favourite (if you cant tell).

Maybe I should mention something:

According to the lore, servants can’t normally remember their previous summoning. The only exception is Saber, because technically she isn’t dead and is still making new memories. They also like doing this ‘hints’ on FGO, but it is usually more fanservice-y or a nod to the fans who knows the other works than anything else. 

In any case, in UBW it is implied that Archer can remember bits of his summonings as a Counter Guardian, some memories that have been engraved into his Saint Graph for one reason or another, even if he isn’t aware or can’t remember of a lot of things (example: Nasu said that he has no idea about the black mud (Angra Mainyu) and only instinctively knew it was super bad news)) but I like to think that the events of UBW got engraved into his graph and he sorted some things out. His passion for mankind and his mission was rekindled, Rin and Saber’s influence also makes things a little easier. Although he still has complicated feelings towards Shirou, his past self, he is a little more tolerant (but still an ass). And it carried on to the subsequent summonings, including HF and FGO.

Sakura can’t smile if you exist…!

I realized i hadn’t made a post yet about one of my favorite parts of Heaven’s Feel; Shirou’s ending motivation. At the very end of the route Shirou is quite literally dying. His body is skewering itself with his own sword creating power, he’s been losing memories and breaking down for the past 30 hours or so. (thats why there are gaps in the narration in the fourth cap, showing how his mind is breaking down) So Shirou, now dying, then gets beaten down by Kirei in a final brutal physical battle. In this moment where it seems that all is lost, that he will die and the grail will destroy humanity, the above caps are what goes through his head.

and i love it, i love it so much, that his goal is something so childishly simple and pure. He wants Sakura to be able to genuinely smile in front of people that aren’t him. That’s it. Thats all he wants. 

People have complained that Shirou gets derailed or changed too much in HF, but i feel like this moment shows that he is still the same character in the end. He’s still an idealistic boy chasing a simple goal with full sincerity, the only difference is that this goal is something that is actually possible. “Saving everyone” wasn’t something that could be achieved in reality, but “Sakura being able to smile in front of other people,” is.

I also love how much its not about him? Like people have also said that Shirou and Sakura’s relationship is unhealthy and is a bit codependent, and while it definitely has issues, i love how in the end Shirou’s goal is about her being able to be happy with people who aren’t him. Let’s look at earlier in the route when Shirou first realizes that Sakura only smiles around him

“Her words should make me happy” because normally most people would be happy to hear their lover is happier around them then others. And that would be fine if thats how it was. But what Rin is pointing out is that she’s not happy at all around anyone but him (and taiga). And he’s disturbed by the realization. Because she always smiled in front of him, he assumed that was the norm for her, but now he realizes that he and taiga were pretty much the one bright spot in the sea of misery that was her life. 

So in the end all he wants is to change that. To get her safe, happy and healed enough that she can show her smile to someone other then him. And its not made directly obvious, but we see in the epilogue’s final scene that his wish was granted.

When Sakura is able to genuinely smile at Rin.

anyway my point is shirou is a good and pure boy who just wants his lover to be able to smile and be happy and i love him and i love his relationship with sakura, they are so wonderful, the end.

Finking, Finking.

Hi, welcome to my ted talk. (That is the only time I will ever make that joke. This is Fashionski Finks. Expect radically low standards of self-involved rantiness with zero research or accountability from here on out). For a while there I seriously thought that the covid-19 quarantine was going to result in people being increasingly placid and accepting of creeping extensions of the police state. But here I am, getting depressed again, not about the protests, which I love, but more about my relationship to in-group pressure dynamics. One of the problems with being a relentless contrarian is the discomfort of my impulse to rebel against groups even when they’re championing the right thing. I have to find my own way to fight against the system as an outsider. No gods, no masters, no fucking peer pressure.  I’ll never be happy joining a chorus line. I don’t sign fucking petitions (they’re just lists for the NSA). I do donate, but like fuck will I do it performatively. I can’t go to protests cus I get panic attacky in crowds. I empathise pretty strongly with outsiders of all stripes but believe ridiculously excessively in the public good of criticism, and have a nostalgic love of trolling (I like to think I’m gentle with it though). Bring back the troll! We need that fucker, he’s a sign of a healthy internet. I’m writing this blog thing as an extension of my need to vent my extreme negativity. TBH I never expected to get any followers with ted twitter and the bizarre welcomingness of the hf twitter community totally wrongfooted me. I’m not nice. Ted isn’t meant to likable. He’s my dark side. I was meant to be using this alt as a way to terrorise the nice nice (secretly cruel) fashion people. I’m gunna try and up that aspect more. Just bear in mind, my complaints are largely about the system, but if I see you perpetuating fashion’s entrenched anti-intellectualism or its insidery bullshit, I’ll come for you with a little meta-bomb with your name on it. Maintaining my misanthropic tone does take work tho, like, deep down in some twisted part of my psyche, I guess I do actually want to be liked. It’s fucked up.

I suppose it’s only fair to explain this Ted fursona. Like, new concept, who dis? Why all the furry porn? …..because I just think it’s hilarious. Every time I think about the furries I cackle (not at them, mind). I just love the mad corruption of pure Disney aesthetics into hardcore pornography. That’s anti-authoritarian as fuck. I love the sincerity of their culture. The way the crazy fetish aspect means they’ll never be fully blandified by mainstream acceptance. The way it’s so cringe but so delightful. And more seriously, I’m interested in how a culture of mostly gay male nerds developed to the point where they’ll invest 10k in custom fursuits and support eachother’s independent businesses in ways that the fashion community completely fails to do. The fashion world sucks. There’s so many correlations there that I want to investigate: the newness (furries date from around the 70s, fashion culture in its self-aware state dates from the late 19th C – both very young fields); the centralisation/decentralisation; the hierarchy (furries can be pretty catty, I have discovered in my research, and we all know what fashion people are like); the adoption of new identities; the cis-boy gayness aspect (I’m increasingly tired of the extreme nasty hierarchy of certain CSM queens. It’s all very UGH. Just, fuck those particular bitches.) There’s more to the furry love, but I’ll explore it in future posts.

More importantly, why Ted fucking Kaczynski? I’m not like, actually a terrorist. (….yet. tehehe. NO, seriously I like non-maiming violence. Fuck yeah to property damage. Fuck yeah to disabling the system in extreme way. But no to wooden IEDs. Think of my shitty jokes that fail to land as my hand-crafted bombs). I think I like the shitness of Ted. He was just an epic fail of a terrorist. I’m a little white girl living in London. I’m not actually a primitivist, as much as I crave a hut in the woods. I did go to an elite school though. I had some really shitty experiences in the fashion industry in my early 20s, and I watch my friends who are relatively successful in that system and I get so angry on their behalf at their poor treatment. They think I’m too angry. Fuck that. They should be more angry, and the fact that they can’t be angry at their extreme precarity and the fact they’re still insecure and terrified of being ejected by the system after all their investment and skills they’ve built up is BULLSHIT. I’ll be double angry for them, I’m not invested in that system. I don’t need it to pay my rent. I’m free, motherfuckers, and I’m coming for the abusers and exploiters. If you’re a complacent industry figure not fighting hard from within, uggghhhhh fuck you. Yes, YOU. Soooo, I relate pretty hard to the MK ultra stuff. (go look him up, he was basically tortured and experimented upon by the elite). But there’s a pretty big chasm between my views and his, and I’ll try to be clear about the extent of my interest in his extreme beliefs. I haven’t even finished reading the manifesto. Basically, I watched that shitty show on Netflix with sam worthington around the same time I watched Joker (that movie fucked me up) and thought it’d be a good outlet to larp online as a terrorist. There’s the angry white alt-right school shooter aspect, which I’m still figuring out, cus I’m non-binary and I was raised by nutso trumpy right-wingers, who I barely speak to anymore, and I struggle to get along with people generally. There’s sad, self-pitying rage here. I empathise with the angry white dudes too much. I feel guilty about it. That’s good ground for artmaking (yes, shamefully, this…is…art. Sorry). I modelled this fursona a little after my brother, who I spent years living with and arguing with and trying to lift out of his scary racist youtube rabbit holes. This is actually quite an emotional thing for me, cus I did the ‘talk to your fascist family’ thing. And I completely failed. I realised his right-winginess wasn’t lessening, I wasn’t gaining ground, and in fact my excessive empathy and desire to reach out to the relative most similar to me in character meant his extremism was rubbing off on me. Making me more resentful and depressed. Feeling powerless. I was being too kind-hearted and forgiving of his masculine impotence. So I’m exploring some personal shit here. But Ted is also a cute lil fuzzball teddy bear. He means well, but me being super autistic and faily at social skills means he’s kind of a dick, cus I am. I’m going to try and further develop this character, this POV, and this post is the only time I’ll explain the divide between him and his creator (moi). The ‘I’ on the twitter and here is Ted Fashionski, I need that space between me and him. Masks give us this freedom to be more ourselves. Internet culture has lost a lot of its wild brutal anonymity in the last decade or so, now everyone’s afraid of making mistakes. How the hell do you grow if you’re not allowed to fuck up? This is a vital outlet. He’s become an important part of my life and I have to say, I love being Ted Fashionski. He’s like Paddington Bear who just escaped form Guantanamo or something.

I get pretty fatigued as a matter of course. I’m a long-term depressive since childhood. I have a difficult time keeping my hard-on for living. I don’t get suicidal really but I do struggle with extreme fatigue. I sleep a lot. I often fall into spirals of self-hate. And as someone who utterly believes in revolutionary leftist politics, I beat myself up about not doing enough. I’m so middle class and english and white. I was raised in such a chauvinistic and complacent culture; I don’t even know where to start. I’m wading my way through post-colonial literature and beating myself up for finding it boring and uncomfortable. It’s hard to force yourself to acknowledge your culture is The Bad Guys. It’s easier to fall into fanstasies of supremacy and butthurt misunderstoodness. And it’s not like my depressive brain needs any encouragement to hate me. My trajectory is ever leftwards, but I remember the righteous fury of being right-wing. I get it, that was me. We need more paths back from fascism, more comprehension of why people are that kind of shitty. I talk less, and less well, the more depressed I am. If I’m talking, it means im feeling a lot better. Just, fyi.

Give me a minute to be critical here. With the George Floyd protests, a lot of the cool guys on fashion twitter has gone blazingly hardcore on the political side. But there’s this troubling rhetoric about ‘no return to normal content’ or ‘this isn’t the time for fashion’. Like fuck it isn’t. This is a key problem with fashion culture right here, we have this received perception of fashion as empty escapism. Escapism matters in fashion, yes. But seriously, talking about the surfaces of things does not equal not caring about deeper meaning. What the fuck. Clothes are a connective tissue, a membrane between us. They’re emotional and powerful. We can talk about things that matter THROUGH clothes. I speak fashion, pretty fucking well. Most people who work at fashion magazines are morons with no understanding or respect for their subject. They’re incapable of doing it justice, and that’s deliberate. Nutrition and Prediabetes

As I mentioned in my previous post there is some fascinating and useful information in Dr. Michael Greger’s book How Not To Diet on the relation between what and how we eat and prediabetes. This topic is important to me because a good friend of mine was recently diagnosed with prediabetes, and has been making heroic efforts in her eating to address it without medication. Insulin resistance is the strongly related to prediabetes, which is chronically elevated blood sugar (glucose). Sometimes the two terms are used interchangeably. Another term is carbohydrate intolerance. As a last bit of terminology, insulin sensitivity is the opposite of insulin resistance. We want our cells to have high insulin sensitivity which is the same as low insulin resistance. High insulin sensitivity also means high carb tolerance. Prediabetes is diagnosed with an abnormally high reading on an hbA1c test, which indicates your average blood glucose level over the last couple of months.

Background

So first the basics. When food is digested our blood glucose level goes up. This signals to the pancreas to secrete insulin, which prompts the muscles and liver to receive the energy. It also prompts the fat cells to stop releasing energy, since there are readily available calories that need to be cleared from the blood. Excess glucose in the blood has various harmful side effects so it’s important for this to happen in a timely manner. In addition, the response to the excess glucose is for the pancreas to pump out more insulin, leading to elevated insulin levels in the blood, which has its own harmful effects

Cells can become resistant to the effect of insulin, so that not enough sugar is taken out of the blood in response to a normal dose of insulin. Some authors make the analogy that the insulin lock no longer fits in the cells’ keyhole, but I prefer Dr Greger’s analogy of a clogged drain. So insulin resistance reduces the outflow of sugar from the blood. The inflow of sugar is controlled by the food we eat, specifically its glycemic load: how much and how quickly the blood sugar rises in response to a specific number of calories of food consumed.

Refined carbohydrates have the worst glycemic load, so cutting back on them is a good way to “turn down the tap” of sugar inflow. It may seem like a good idea to cut back on all carbs, but this is failing to distinguish between “bad” (high-glycemic load) and “good” (low-glycemic load) carbs. You don’t have to cut down on all carbs to reduce blood sugar levels, just bad carbs. Also, carbs are not the only foods that cause insulin spiking. For example, beef, which contains no carbs, has a surprisingly high insulin response.

While it is a good idea to “turn down the tap”, the major question I often don’t see addressed is “why is the drain clogged” and what can we do to unclog it? Why did my friend suddenly become insulin resistant in her 60s? Especially in her case, because she doesn’t check any of the obvious boxes: she is normal weight, physically active, and eats a healthier diet than the standard American diet.

It is by now well established that the insulin resistance is strongly associated with excess accumulation of intramyocellular lipids, or fat stuck inside muscle cells, and many experts argue that this is in fact the cause of insulin resistance. We don’t want a cross-section of our muscles to look like a marbled steak. Elevated blood fat (lipid) levels lead to increased intramyocellular lipids. And what we eat affects our blood lipid levels. This makes eating a reduced-fat diet seem like a good idea, but high triglycerides means excessive fat in the bloodstream, which can be caused by other types of excess calories, and the recommendations to lower triglycerides include exercise, avoiding sugar and other refined carbs, and lowering saturated fat consumption.

This is kind of what I new going into reading How Not To Diet but I picked up a lot of new knowledge there. Here is a summary of the new stuff I learned:

“Those eating plant-based diets average significantly lower insulin levels and have less insulin resistance, even compared to nonvegetarians at the same body weight. In fact, those who eat meat have up to 50 percent higher insulin levels in their bloodstreams” [1-4]. Intervention studies showed significant improvement by putting patients with type II diabetes on a plant-based diet [5]. There is a good discussion about how effective a plant-based diet is in preventing and treating diabetes in Dr. Greger’s video “The Best Diet for Diabetes“,

Our gut bacteria play a big role in carb tolerance. Bifodobacteria are good gut bugs we want to have, and bifodogenic foods encourages their growth. Unfortunately, some people are intolerant of a type of foods call fodmaps, which is associated with irritable bowel symptom among other things. But a low-fodmap diet can lead to lower levels of bifodobacteria [6] So it seems those who are on a low fodmap diet need to work harder at eating other foods allowed on their diet that are associated with good gut bugs.

Berries improve insulin sensitivity, and consuming them along with other foods, even bad carbs, blunts the insulin response to them. Eating more berries can overall lead to lower insulin resistance [7].

“Adding just two teaspoons of vinegar to a high-glycemic meal (a bagel and juice) reduces the blood sugar spike by 23 percent… A meta-analysis of eleven such studies found that vinegar taken with a meal significantly improves both blood sugar and insulin responses, and it didn’t seem to matter what kind of vinegar was used” [8]. As to how this works:”The mystery was solved when a research team in Greece demonstrated that vinegar consumption improves the uptake of blood sugar by our muscles” [9].

This next tidbit gets back to the meal-timing suggestion in my previous post: We are significantly more insulin sensitive in the morning compared to the evening. So avoiding higher glycemic foods in the evening is especially important for blood sugar control [10].

Takeaway

The recommendations discussed above still hold: move more, eat less refined carbs, eat less saturated fat, eat more high fiber foods including fruits and veggies. In the light of the lower insulin resistance associated with plant-based eating. moving towards lower animal protein intake and higher plant protein (like more beans, less meat) also seems like a good idea. In addition, there are some tweaks like eating berries with your meals, eating more in the morning and less at night (especially avoiding higher glycemic foods at night), and adding vinegar to your meals (Dr. Greger had some suggestions about vinegar with breakfast, but I must admit I have not tried that step yet). And don’t forget to work on your stress: we tend to eat junkier foods when stressed out. Fun physical activities and meditation (sitting or in motion) both help.

Swap size: 18% per annum of the value of an open position.

Swap calculation: The swap is given in percent per annum. Since swaps are calculated and charged every day at the end of the trading session, the calculated amount of the annual interest rate is divided by 360. When charging swaps, first the cost of one symbol lot is calculated (the symbol of the opened position), and then the specified percent is calculated, the obtained amount is multiplied by the position volume (in lots) and the result is divided by 360. If the base currency of the symbol is different from the deposit currency, the swap is converted into the deposit currency.

The conversion is performed using the average price at the moment of swap charging: (Bid+Ask)/2.
