My captaaaaain! I read Hands of the Emperor because of you and I am *obsessed*. It's so... there are books that try to keep you reading because Things Are Happening, but HotE is so quiet with it? It is all of my favorite older relatives telling me stories without all of the context and showing me what they love(d) about their lives and the people in them, and the regrets that they can't *really* bring themselves to regret and this book just loves people so goddamn much that I can't stand it. You start reading and it's so comfortable to pick up and put back down that even the hard emotional moments feel like lightly defined colors but clear brushstrokes and now I am three quarters of the way through the book and I am going to die if I can't get more of my uncle Clioper's slice of life in the government of fantasy 1800s. I shall never be the same.

You put it into words!!! Some fantasy books are really fast paced and chaotic, but HOTE will have you SCREAMING about middle aged men DARING to make small talk and look one another in the eye. It'll have you laughing hysterically about a career burecrat auditing a bank in his home town. And then something totally batshit will happen like a lord mage turning someone into a table and it's never mentioned again. This book makes so tender and happy and also feral. What a read!!

#i STILL think about cliopher auditing the fisheries department three years in a row #i'm going about my business and suddenly i'm at the grocery store dying of laughter thinking about cliopher storming into the fisheries dept #for a THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR #every dept lives in quiet terror that theyre next for the audit chopping block #he is the burecratic batman of the palace of stars #not the hero they want but the hero they need #(he is 100% what his radiancy wants though)#ask

obviously the gavinners are an industry plant, but do we think they're being funded by the government to deliver the whole 'law enforcement' messaging?

i just want to see the gavinners counterculture movement so so badly. apollo would agree with it but he's not cool enough to be in those spaces. i think phoenix is an armchair critic but is only pretending to care about 'musical standards' in order to bolster his haterism. ema is cheerfully throwing herself into toxic online gavinners discourse for sure. i think she has 'acab' in her bio and is living in mauvaise foi about the obvious contradiction. trucy will one day put two and two together about the musical heritage of the gavinners but i don't think the band will still be together by then.

I went out to eat with some classmates after my final and I found out they were all christian and formerly homeschooled

#I was sitting there like 😬 bc I'm not that but I didnt realize it til halfway thru #But also I was talking abt an upcoming play that I'm excited to audition for where the casting is reversed (men playing women roles+women p #...playing mens roles. Nonbinary ppl can play whatever they're comfortable with 👍)#And they were like...
