Filosofa's Snarky Snippets Are Baaaaaaack!
Now that the bill to raise the debt ceiling has passed and a potential crisis has once again been headed off in the 11th hour, it’s time to look around at what else has been happening that might have escaped our notice. I want to start with something that impressed me, someone who has a conscience and puts life above profit.  Back in early 2021, Jon Waldman bought a gun store, Georgia…

Tumblr media
Personality:
Traits: Smart, sensitive, reasonable
Frankie has a soft, slightly rough cadence to his voice. He speaks mostly with an American accent throughout the film. It's hinted that he is from Texas, so this could be a Texan accent.
He is not above taking charge when needed and shows some leadership skills. It's apparent that Frankie can be easily led into things however, judging by how initially he declines to join the mission, but then when everyone else joins, he quickly agrees, indicating he can quickly fold under pressure.
Frankie also tends to jump the gun, establishing that it's better to shoot the enemy and ask questions later. This is evidenced in the film when he urges Pope to "shoot the driver" and states "I’ll tell you right now, if we get to that beach and Ben isn’t there, I’m fucking killing people," and "I'm taking a shot." He's also the one to shoot a guard first in Lorea's house. He shoots at the farmers, although Tom is the one who shoots them first in that scene, even though Frankie believes it was himself. Frankie also acknowledges his tendency to be quick on the draw when he states: "I was too quick on the trigger. You know it and I know it. I killed those people."
It's also evident Frankie would have some form of PTSD based on how he shoots without blinking/wincing, and how he mentions: "man, I almost forgot why I got out of this business. Shit gets so dark so quick."
It's not confirmed the cause for Frankie's suspension, whether he was smuggling drugs (cocaine) or if he was physically taking drugs himself. However, based on a suspension, in terms of the law, suspended pending a review/investigation means an outcome has not been reached yet, nor has an arrest. This has been left open to interpretation. Also, it appears that Frankie was not under the influence of any narcotics during the film, as he had adept focus and showed no obvious signs of withdrawal/addiction, (however this does not necessarily mean that he might not have one) therefore could be more aligned to a possible smuggling/carrying suspension. "I got busted. It’s not a big deal. Actually, it’s a big deal. Technically it’s a suspension. I’m still under review." Again, this is left unconfirmed, and open to interpretation.
It also appears that whilst Will and Tom are retired from Delta Force, and Pope is now working alone on missions, Frankie is still working in aviation as he is suspended. It's not clear however, if he is still working for the forces in some capacity as a pilot, or whether he is working for a private aviation company as an employee and has been suspended. Again, this is unconfirmed and open to interpretation.
Fashion/Outfits:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Outfit 1 - (Benny MMA fight scene) Blue V-neck t-shirt, brown leather-trimmed jacket, brown belt, blue jeans, navy baseball cap, mention of cowboy boots when Pope points to his feet, but it's not actually seen if Frankie's wearing them in this scene or not
Outfit 2 - (Scoping out Lorea's place) Light burgundy round neck t-shirt, flannel denim-looking overshirt in green, light brown cargo jean pants, brown belt, aviators (in car), navy baseball cap, desert boots
Outfit 3 - (Shipping container scene) Gray round neck t-shirt, light brown cargo jean pants, aviators, navy baseball cap, desert boots
Outfit 4 - (Lorea's house ambush scene & remainder of film) Light brown cargo jean pants, cream/beige pants belt, white round neck t-shirt, salmon pink overshirt, brown tac vest plate, navy baseball cap, desert boots, navy backpack, black tac belt, wine rain jacket (added later)

Accessories: Black carabiner on tac vest plate, notepad, black cable ties, watch on left wrist, spare belts and ammo on tac vest plate, comms mic, aviators, navy Standard Heating Oil baseball cap. Frankie's baseball cap is a direct nod to the film A Most Violent Year, in which Oscar Issac starred as a character working for the fictional oil company, and starred alongside Pedro in Triple Frontier playing Santiago Pope.

the language discourse is so interesting to me bc where I’m from you HAVE to know three languages by the time you’re in primary school: georgian, russian (although this is becoming less common as the relationship with the country sours even further, which is sad imo bc it’s a beautiful language), and obviously english. i’m not saying kids speak these languages perfectly, but they do learn them. our casual everyday speech is a mishmash of regular georgian, random words borrowed from russian (this is so widespread that it applies to people who don’t speak any russian at all), and english online slang. we also text with the latin alphabet a lot bc the georgian one is a hassle (I guess?). obviously, that isn’t ideal to say the least, but I feel like learning a lot of languages while young should still be encouraged. I’m surprised it isn’t as common in america, where the education system is decidedly stronger (I know people have their complaints, which is fair, but, uh, just take my word on this one).
that's cool as hell! i have several colleagues who speak multiple languages because they are from the russia-poland-belarus-ukraine-georgia area, one of them knew like 12 languages or dialects because of proximity and the state of belarus at the time she lived there, which is awesome.
i grew up in a city in texas that is like 80% mexican or latino and, as a result, leans spanish-speaking anywhere you go. it's actually the only place i've personally ever visited in the us where english isn't the assumed language. that's the only reason my parents taught it to me: they had lots of family and a community to speak it to me. but once we moved when i was a kid that ability kinda went away :/
i def wish americans learned languages younger. i feel like american exceptionalism has something to do with it, and also this vicious cycle where there is a teacher shortage + an even more extreme shortage of teachers who are multilingual. so even if the govt wanted to update the curriculum to include a language requirement earlier (i think the only requirement is maybe 2 years for high school graduation) there'd be no one to teach any languages that would be common here, like spanish.
all to say: i also wish more americans (including myself) could speak multiple languages. i just don't spend a lot of time thinking of taylor's inability to do so (i know you weren't saying that maria but just to bring it back to the ask that started it all lmao.)

Name: Antonio Jimenez Age: 37 Occupation: Chef at La Macina Time living in Tonopah: Four years Neighborhood: Downtown Gang Affiliation: Los Santos- Bombardeo Face Claim: Peter Gadiot
Biography:
Born in Pensacola, Florida, to a Mexican immigrant turned US Marine and a high school English teacher, Antonio Jimenez’s upbringing was far from boring. Throughout his childhood, he and his siblings lived in a number of different states and countries, a side effect of their father’s everchanging deployments. But in a lot of ways, it kept Antonio from ever feeling too tied to any one place, giving him the freedom to live like a vagabond– at least for a little while. Sure, his youth was rather turbulent at times and it was always some sort of balancing act as his family moved from location to location, adopting a piece of every place’s culture, but he’d never once viewed any of that as a bad thing. Truth be told, he’d loved that sort of transient, unpredictable lifestyle, and so when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at eighteen years old like his father before him, it came as no shock to anyone.
Unlike his father, Antonio looked to the sky to find his passion. Every move he made from the time he enlisted was in pursuit of becoming a Marine Corps Aviator. With the military funding his education, Antonio completed a bachelor’s degree in physics and participated in his university’s Marine ROTC program to help expedite his climb through the ranks. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, to begin flight training. Roughly two years later, in 2010, he was a fully qualified fighter pilot and tossed headfirst into his first assignment– Dakar, Senegal.
In the beginning, most of his assignments consisted of support roles and allowed Antonio to bear witness to parts of the world he might have otherwise never experienced. Along with his fellow Marines, he delivered supplies and manpower to various African nations as well as parts of southeast Asia who were in desperate need of a helping hand. After seeing how much the US military presence brought hope to the people they encountered along the way, Antonio was proud of the work they were doing, but after a while, he found himself wanting more– and he got it. In 2013, he was dropped right into the heart of the deadly conflict plaguing the Middle East. Before then, he’d never once thought to be careful what he wished for, but after? He learned to bite his tongue.
It was the first time Antonio saw just how savage war could be. He’d read about it, sure. He’d seen the news coverage too. But experiencing it firsthand was somewhat different. He’d never thought it was possible for so much carnage to exist in one place, but it was practically everywhere he turned. But perhaps the most shocking thing of all was how quickly everything could change in an instant. Fellow soldiers were standing beside him one moment and blown away the next. It was horror unlike anything Antonio had ever imagined, but he had a job to do, and somehow he powered through and did whatever the flag on his shoulder required him to do for the next couple years.
He experienced a momentary lull in the madness in 2015 when was able to return home to the United States for a brief, six month reprieve. During that time, he was rarely in the same spot for long. He hopped around from city to city, usually in the company of fellow Marines, because if he stayed stagnant for even half a heartbeat, everything he witnessed overseas had a way of barreling into him with the sort of force he was powerless against. One of those escapades included a trip to Las Vegas. Antonio was deep in the bottle for most of it, but there was one moment he remembered with stunning clarity– the moment when he bit the bullet and married a total stranger. It was completely impulsive, completely out of character for him, but after everything he’d been through, he decided to lean into it, and rather than racing for a quickie divorce, he vowed to make it work.
And somehow, it did– at least for a while. Thanks to another deployment after those six months of mindless bliss were over, he later missed the birth of his first child– a daughter. Hunkering down in rubble and dodging enemy fire in the heart of Kabul, Afghanistan, was his fate instead. Antonio couldn’t remember a time in his life when he’d been more miserable. He had a daughter and he’d never even seen her, but he’d seen more death than any one man should ever have to. Just after her first birthday, he finally got to come home– at least for a little while. That home was Tonopah Valley, Nevada, his wife’s home. Try as he may to be as present, he knew his next assignment was looming just over the horizon. But at least this time, he got to witness the birth of his son in 2018, only to be shipped off days later.
The fighting in Kabul was more intense than he’d ever seen it by the time he landed in Afghanistan again. In a lot of ways, that only fueled Antonio’s desire to serve, but in others, it terrified him. A father of two, he knew he couldn’t afford to die in a barren wasteland. He hadn’t been allowed enough time with his kids for that. But fate had this cruel way of fucking with him, of making him believe that he’d never make it out alive, and if he was being honest, he’d come close. In 2019, the helicopter he was escorting and providing security for was ambushed and shot down by enemy forces. In the middle of the dogfight, his jet was shot down too. By the time the rubble was shoved aside, there were only two survivors– Antonio and one other.
Badly injured, he was airlifted to safety and returned to the United States once he was stable. His return home to Tonopah Valley should have signaled a chance to rebuild, but it only brought more destruction. The real battlefield wasn’t half a world away in Kabul, it was in his own mind. Consumed with guilt and grief over what happened, Antonio turned to drugs and alcohol. For a while, he tried to hide it, but one failed drug test after the other was something the Marine Corps couldn’t ignore, and he was soon dishonorably discharged, which only made him spiral more. Support groups didn’t help. Even time with his family hardly scratched the surface of everything he was feeling. While he battled his demons, he began working as a chef, making barely enough to make ends meet.
And so Antonio simply faded away from anything and everyone that he’d ever loved. In 2021, the losses only continued to pile up when his wife filed for divorce. He could hardly blame her. He wasn’t the husband or father his family needed– that man had died in Kabul right along with the men he’d sworn to protect, but he hadn’t even been able to fly them to safety. What made him think he could be something solid for his own family to lean against?
He’d nearly reached his wits end when his cousin reached out later that year. While they hadn’t been close growing up (admittedly, Antonio hadn’t been close to anyone, not even his own siblings), he appreciated the way Amelia stepped in and shoved him at something more useful than the booze and pills he’d lost himself in. Los Santos. They needed a pilot– someone who could move their product into the United States and help the gang flourish. It was the kick Antonio needed– after all, he hated his job and how he could hardly make his child support payments along with his other expenses. Working for the gang would ensure financial stability, even if it came with risk– but when had he ever cared about that? He’d flown into fucking war before– he had the scars to prove it.
And so, since 2022, Antonio has cleaned up his act and has been flying for Los Santos, though it’s been kept on the downlow. The only ones who know are those directly involved with the gang and Antonio intends to keep it that way. But– Tonopah Valley is a small town where secrets tend to spread faster than wildfire; it’s only a matter of time before the truth comes out.
Headcanons:
Loves photography and takes to the open wild with his camera whenever he gets the chance.
Would travel the world in a heartbeat– just tell him where and when.
Has been sober for almost a year now– a fact he’s very proud of.

Have you seen PIPER CALLAHAN around the crash site? we’re trying to make sure they’re still alive after the crash! according to the manifesto SHE is a TWENTY FIVE year old CIS WOMAN**. i hear they’re known being an ACTOR. PIPER is also known to be ASSERTIVE yet also ERRATIC at times. we have a couple questions for PIPER when we find HER, we heard something about a secret they might have? such as SHE BLACKMAILS PRODUCERS INTO GIVING HER ROLES!
before: Piper grew up in Fort Worth, Texas to a married pair who ran a successful estate agency. The youngest of three, she was doted on by her parents and often spoiled much more than her older brothers. She'd always wanted to be in the limelight, even from an early age, when she'd perform for anyone who'd listen and watch.
At the age of seven and after short negotiations with her parents, she was allowed to audition for minor roles, commercials, etc. Although she was having fun acting and being someone else; as she grew older, it became less about the performance and more about the benefits that came along with it. It became about money and the "celeb status", which followed her along with her career as she got older.
She soon developed a name for herself as something of a child star, and never really had to put in effort for auditions after that. A well known recognizable face appeals to the public, right? Life was a dream, and Piper didn't have to break a sweat.
After she'd graduated high school - a condition of her parents', she moved around to wherever the next role would take her, never really settling down in one place. But now she was auditioning for more mature roles, she had a lot more competition. And suddenly, these roles required something called talent, that no adolescent 'cuteness' could hide.
Despite the outward facade that Piper wears so well, she's smart. She knew she wouldn't be able to compete with these other actresses, and couldn't rely on her childhood accolades to carry her through adulthood. And she was right, as time and time again she was rejected for some fresh talent.
The idea of her slipping through the cracks and becoming another long gone child actor angered her and it wasn't a reality she wanted to make. As a last resort, she would reach out to casting directors and producers of a project through her contacts. Seduce them. Manipulate them. Blackmail them. It didn't always work, only if they had something to lose - like a partner or a family. But it did get her roles.
present;
Piper was traveling to Sydney to shoot the sequel of her film where she starred (ironically) as the survivor of a plane crash. However, unlike her present situation, that was a comedy. She had requested to fly privately, but the studio had to "cut costs" and deemed she wasn't important enough to be treated to such a luxury.
As herself, she is not equipped to survive and knows that she cannot contribute anything resourceful. The only skill she may have is what she learned from her role as a survivor, which were limited to starting a small fire, but Piper's too shaken up to even remember how.
(Honestly, she's useless. Probably be the first to go.)
other stuff;
Overall, Piper's a typical "I do what I want" person. Not really in a 'badass' way, more of a "I will do nothing." It isn't necessarily that she means to act this way and hopefully with time, she will become less useless. She's just used to a certain way of life and being on this island wasn't on the agenda. Despite having to adapt herself for her roles, she will happily sit on that beach and wait all year for rescue to come without lifting a finger. If she knew that wouldn't make her absolutely hated by all.

Day One Hundred Fifty-Six
Despite the fact that I’d left my students with a sub for three days, I found my classroom in decent shape when I came in this morning. Students had left my whiteboard markers all over the place, and there were a couple papers to pick up, but that’s not too bad. The worst thing they did was take all the fruit snacks and granola bars out of the drawer where I keep those (they’re allowed to take one snack if they’re hungry, someone- or multiple someones- definitely took a lot more than one). They got a talking-to about that from me.
My Block 2 students also got a talking-to about the report I’d gotten from that sub about their general lack of preparedness for class, their unwillingness to stay on task, etc... I’d planned to start class by going over yesterday’s assignment, but I could see that only a few students had it done, so I just collected it instead. Anyone who was banking on being able to write the answers down as I went over them was sorely disappointed.
Meantime, in my Block 3 class, they loved doing that assignment and we had a 45-minute discussion about the ways in which the various historical events we’d studied were connected, plus another 15-minute discussion about the other work they’d done while I was gone. It’s wild how different two sections of the same course can be sometimes, right?
Anyways, in both sections, the used the remainder of the block to work on current events write-ups. They get to choose how they express their information this time: slides, paragraphs, whatever as long as it’s properly cited. So there’s ongoing research and writing about a ton of different things. Examples: the crisis in Sudan, the mass shooting in Texas, Swatch Nines, dolphin rescues, instability in Haiti, and the blender cat (note: if you don’t already know about the blender cat, definitely don’t look it up). Students will finish their write-ups tomorrow.
In APGOV, my students and I discussed the NH state constitution, and then I had them look at a recently-passed law that requires NH students to take the 128-question citizenship test and pass it with a score of 70 or better in order to graduate high school. So, obviously, the thing I did after discussing the law with them was give them a copy of the test. I let them work in groups to try and pass it. I think they found it amusing, frustrating, conversation-generating, and more at various points. And, while they passed it, they weren’t sure that all of their classmates could. We’re going to tackle a more controversial bill tomorrow: SB272, the parental bill of rights, which has passed the Senate and is currently being debated in the House. Stay tuned for more on how that goes.
I had a faculty meeting in the afternoon, and since it’s Teacher Appreciation Week, we were treated to ice cream, and we got new school swag (hats and t-shirts). Some local businesses also left us gift certificates, which was very cool. And the meeting was short- mostly announcements about upcoming state testing- so then I was able to go out to track practice and cheer my sprinters on through the last half of a hard workout. It’s a sunny day (finally), so it was glorious to be outside!

It took me awhile to locate this because it is so hard sometimes searching for old documentation. (Under read more, so feel free to ignore. I'm just rambling about Indiana graduation requirements.)
But I managed to find the graduation requirements for Indiana in the 80's from a State Standards Update Report. And maybe I'm just being biased, but it seems stupidly easy to graduate up to the new regulations being introduced which would have started for the Party's graduating class. Like I get that the man was not school-smart in any way, but why was Eddie struggling? Like could he not get through the electives? Like my mom, who fucking struggled in school and had to do so much remedial and makeup work just to get her credits don't get me wrong, managed to graduate easy in 87 (In Texas, but their requirements were similar). I had at least double, if not more, of all those credits (minus electives) at my graduation. I must just be on a level academically where I just don't get it because I don't understand how he was thinking he still might not graduate after six years.
But a regular four years then of a 7 school period day was 56 credits. Some schools did have 6 school periods in a day still then, but that is still 48 credits. He had to have been failing all but one or two of his classes a semester to still be in school (usually only one).

7 Steps To Take To Become a Navy PilotThere are plenty of perks to being a Navy pilot, but with the spoils does come a lot of work. Here is a look at the steps to becoming a Naval aviator. Step 1: Meet the Eligibility CriteriaThe pilot program, similar to that of special forces, has advanced eligibility criteria when compared to a general-issue sailor in the U.S. Navy. Here are the boxes an aspiring Navy pilot must check before they can begin training*:
Age 19-26
Between the heights of 5’2” and 6’5”
Sitting height of no more than 40.9”
Weigh between 103 and 245 pounds
Corrected vision to 20/20 (they’ll pay for it if you need surgery)
U.S. citizenship
Pass a medical screening *Waivers are available. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t meet one of these.
Step 2: Attend College or Flight Training
Navy pilots also have to have a four-year degree to attend training. For individuals considering Navy aviation right out of high school, the Naval Academy is certainly worth a look, as it pays for your education and also counts toward some service time for retirement. Most degrees from most universities will qualify an aspiring pilot for the flight program, though. But as one would guess, those coming from the Academy certainly are a step ahead.
Step 3: Earn Commissioning
Next, the future Naval aviators head to Newport, Rhode Island, where they attend Officer Training School (OCS) with people entering every different walk of Navy officer service, including future intelligence officers, submariners, engineers, and more. The course is 13 weeks long, and upon completion, graduates officially become commissioned officers in the U.S. Navy.
Step 4: Take the Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB)
Another eligibility requirement is scoring a 35 on the Aviation Selection Test Battery, which is generally administered at OCS. Aspiring pilots are only allowed to take this examination three times in their entire lives. Study up!
Step 5: Attend AIC—The Air Indoctrination Course
After OCS, most of the new officers part ways and go to their respective schools to get a more granular look at the jobs they will be performing. For pilots, that starts with learning all about aviation at the Air Indoctrination Course (AIC) in Pensacola, Florida. At AIC, pilots learn the basics of aerodynamics, weather, aircraft functionality, navigation, and aviation basics such as in-air communications. It takes most students six weeks to pass the course.
Step 6: Attend Flight School
Next is the practical flight training which takes place in one of two locations: Pensacola, or Corpus Christi, Texas (both programs are the same). At flight school, pilots undergo a demanding training regimen that teaches them pretty much the entire gamut of what someone pursuing an airline transport pilot certificate would learn, in a fraction of the time. At flight school, pilots learn how to fly by visual rules, how to fly by instrument rules, and even how to fly in formation.
Step 7: Choose What Area To Specialize In
After successfully completing the rigorous Navy flight school, pilots can choose their specialization, and learn how to perfect their basic pilot skills relative to the aircraft they will be flying.
___________________________________________________
Student naval aviators progress through a significant training syllabus—typically 18 months to two years for initial winging (designation) as Naval Aviators via either the advanced strike pipeline for those destined for fixed-wing aircraft such as fighter/bomber jets;

Hello! I’m Kendra! My question is can you please introduce yourself? Tell us a few details about yourself.
Hello Ms. LaVon! Thank you so much for interviewing me! I'm absolutely positive that I will love this interview!
This is such a fun question to answer! My full name is Elizabeth Rose Presley. At this time, I am currently 25 years old. I was born in Abilene, Texas in 1936. Yes, that math doesn't add up, but I am telling about my life from the past. In early 1950, I moved to Memphis, Tennesse when my Daddy's job required him to move. So, all three of us; Mama, Daddy and I, moved to Memphis. There, I started high school at Humes High School. I was a smart gal, straight A's, and all that.
Presley is my last name. Yes, I'm related to THE Elvis Presley. I met him in high school. Super shy, incredibly sweet, but not too good at math, so I was his tutor. He was a year older than me, but we were very close throughout all of high school.
In 1955, a year after I graduated high school, Elvis asked me to marry him. Obviously, I said yes. We were happy together. We had a total of 6 children, 3 girls and 3 boys. There was one miscarriage, and that's when we decided that we were done having kids.
Ms. LaVon, that is the short version. I have truly enjoyed answering this first question! I can't wait to answer more from you! Thank you so much!

Check Your State: Here Are The Active Shooter Training Requirements For Schools And Law Enforcement
— By Lexi Churchill and Lomi Kriel | February 8, 2024 | Frontline
Tumblr media
Santa Fe , Texas — May 21: Crosses line the lawn in front of Santa Fe High School on May 21, 2018 in Santa Fe, Texas. The crosses are a memorial to the victims of the May 18 shooting when 17-year-old student Dimitrios Pagourtzis entered the school with a shotgun and a pistol and opened fire, killing 10 people. Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images
After a teenage gunman killed 10 people at Santa Fe High School in 2018, Texas lawmakers mandated that all school police officers receive training to better prepare them for the possibility of confronting a mass shooter. The law, which required that such training occur only once, didn’t apply to thousands of state and local law enforcement officers who did not work in schools.
Four years later, officers who descended on Uvalde’s Robb Elementary School, a vast majority of whom were not school police, repeatedly acted in ways that ran contrary to what active shooter training teaches, waiting 77 minutes to engage the gunman. An investigation published in December by ProPublica, The Texas Tribune and FRONTLINE revealed that about 30% of the 116 state and local officers who responded in May 2022 did not get active shooter training after graduating from police academies. Of those who had, many received such instruction only once in their careers, which at least eight police training experts say is not enough.
As part of the investigation, the news organizations conducted a nationwide analysis to examine active shooter training requirements and found critical gaps in preparedness between children and law enforcement. While at least 37 states require active shooter-related drills in schools, typically on a yearly basis, no states mandate such training for officers annually.
Instead, decisions about active shooter training are often left to individual school districts and law enforcement departments, creating a patchwork approach in which some proactively provide such instruction and others do not.
The month after the news organizations’ investigation was published, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland’s office released a scathing report that detailed a slew of failures during the Robb Elementary response. While visiting Uvalde, he told reporters that law enforcement agencies should immediately prioritize active shooter training.
The federal report recommended that officers receive eight hours of such instruction annually. Only Texas, however, comes close to meeting the Department of Justice’s suggested standards, according to the newsrooms’ nationwide analysis. Last year, the state mandated that all officers, not just school police, take 16 hours of active shooter training every two years.
About a dozen states also increased training requirements after the Uvalde shooting, but many continue to fall short of what police training experts say is needed.
The gaps in training requirements begin before officers’ first day on the job.
While police academies in nearly every state require some form of active shooter training, five states — California, Georgia, Ohio, Washington and Vermont — do not require it for all recruits. A spokesperson for the police standards agency in Washington did not respond to a request for comment. A Vermont spokesperson did not respond to questions about whether expanding active shooter training to all officers in police academies is being considered. Officials with police standards agencies in the other three states said they are considering adding active shooter training to their police academy curriculum.
Once officers graduate from police academies, the lack of training requirements becomes more pronounced.
Only two states — Texas and Michigan — have laws that require active shooter training for all officers once on the job. While Texas requires recurring instruction, training in Michigan is given once after officers graduate from police academies. Some states mandate active shooter training one time in a particular year, leaving out officers who were not employed at the time. Other states require training only for school police, as Texas did before the Uvalde shooting, and only two of them — Illinois and Mississippi — require it more than once.
Tumblr media
While a majority of states require frequent active shooter-related drills in schools, 13 don’t require such instruction. They include Colorado and Connecticut, which had two of the worst mass shootings in history: the 1999 Columbine school massacre and the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. Spokespeople for the education departments in both states said districts are conducting drills despite the absence of a state mandate but did not provide records that confirm their assertions.
Active shooter training can be expensive, but state lawmakers should commit to providing the necessary instruction if they want law enforcement to be better prepared for a mass shooting, police training experts said. John Curnutt, assistant director at Texas State University’s Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center, said Uvalde is a “horrible example” of when training was needed but hadn’t been practiced enough.
“There’s a higher price that’s paid than the one that we probably could have paid upfront to get ready for it,” Curnutt said.
Statewide Active Shooter Training and Drill Requirements as of 2023

About This Research:
To confirm the most up-to-date active shooter training requirements for law enforcement and schools across the country as of 2023, we contacted education departments and law enforcement standards agencies in every state. We examined both state laws and regulations.
In our analysis of schools, we included all mandated lockdown and active shooter drills, though some education departments said other types of drills can help prepare students and staff as well. In addition to the 37 states that explicitly require active shooter-related drills, we noted several others that have laws mandating safety drills but allow districts to decide which types of drills to conduct. We did not include those in our total count because the options could range from active shooter drills to earthquake drills.
For law enforcement, we collected information about how many hours of active shooter training are required for recruits going through police academies and for officers once they are on the job. We also asked for statewide data showing how many officers had taken such courses, but few states could provide that information. While we included only states’ current training mandates, four states — Alabama, North Carolina, Maine and Pennsylvania — required officers to train in a particular year but then not again, meaning that only those who were employed at that time received the one-time instruction.

If you have bad credit, getting access to loan money is almost impossible. This means if you run into a financial emergency, a worrisome situation will quickly become a dire one.
Car title loans are one of the very few borrowing options open to people with poor credit. Because title loans are secured with collateral -- the title to a car or truck you own -- title loan lenders bypass the credit verification process altogether.
That's only one way vehicle title loans are beneficial. Here are three more.
You can get a title loan even if you aren't working. Banks and credit unions usually only accept income from employment, but title loan lenders accept income from child support, retirement, disability, pension and more.
You have flexible repayment options. Many lenders offer instalment loans with monthly payments, just like traditional loans. That makes paying your loan back much easier.
You have choices. You're spoiled for choices in Texas when it comes to car title lenders. You have the freedom to choose the one with the best interest rates and repayment plans. Are you upside-down in a title loan? Have a title loan buyout Texas to lower your interest rates. With so many options in our state, you have the control.
