GODDD the thing about Astrid is she was never meant to be a mother. She was meant to be the fun aunt who sneaks you cookies when your parents aren't looking, who spends hours teaching you how to make little charms to impress your friends at school, who takes you on adventures you're not supposed to tell mum and dad about, who makes you laugh till you cry telling stories about your parents when they were younger. She was never meant to be nurturing or parental, she was never meant to be doing this alone. And every time she does, every time she has a moment with Johanna that's at all parental in nature, all she can think about is how this wasn't supposed to happen. This wasn't meant to be her job. All she can think about is how Lydia and Phinium would've loved this, would've done so much better, how much more they deserved this than she did. Johanna deserves so much better. Astrid doesn't deserve her. She was never meant to be a mother.

Aunt Astrid as a character is so funny to me. The Hilda writers really aimed at “easy going, rugged, woodsy and pagan-y so as to foreshadow her fae nature” and ended up hitting Any Lesbian Ever right in the bullseye

Unable to get out of Nowhere Space in time, Hilda is flung through the portal Victoria van Gale created. On the other side, she wakes up in a place unlike anything she's ever seen, and meets a girl who, just like her, is trying to find a way home.

This is the most ambitious fic I've written in a long time; my own take on The Fairy Isle, where Hilda finds herself lost in Fairy Country, and doesn't come home alone <3

How do you think Aunt Astrid will find out for Kaisa and Johanna ?

A ideas pop in my head and I can’t decide which is funnier, either she calls and Kaisa picks up the phone, Astrid gets confused for a bit but as Kaisa is flirting with Johanna while describing her causing Jo to run over and grab the phone from her witch gf.

Or Astrid is visiting because Hilda invited her to a Sparrow Scout event, Kaisa answers the door cause Johanna is in the shower (wanted to freshen up before the event) and Astrid is early. Awkward sitting on the couch as Kaisa, Hilda, Alfur and Tontu explain to Astrid who this purple tipped witch is and what relationship she has with Johanna. When Jo finally shows up and is shocked that Astrid is there, Astrid then shocks her again with a “Finally, you’ve picked a good partner this time. Much much better than your last one. I approve”

Time for the monthly drawing recap!

This month:

- Hilda's mission to save some trapped Huldrefish goes wrong when a Baryonyx starts feasting on the trapped fish

- Woodman's calm night is somewhat disrupted as a Camarasaurus rests next to his campfire

- a Maip is forced to cross Toføten on foot, putting every citizen, including aunt Astrid, on edge

- the eternal warriors have once again made David touch the medallion, and he's recklessly trying to take down an Einiosaurus... which won't end well

Me: It's been forever since I've last watched a show on Netflix, let's see if there's something worth while.

*Sees that Hilda got a 3rd season*

Finished season 3 of Hilda, and I found it to be a very delightful and emotional ride with a solid ending. While I would love to have another season, I'm glad to say that the series ended on a high note. Love everything that was done with Johanna, showcases just much Hilda has grown as a character, and I loved all the cameos in the finale.

That said, a critique I have with S3 is how a lot of the side characters we've gotten to know are absent from the narrative (Kaisa 😭). And with the exception of Astrid, new characters such as Louise and Anders were underutilized so much that you could remove them from the story, and not much would change.

You know what forget about everything I’ve said on Kaisa and Astrid’s first meeting being perfectly sweet. It would actually be hilarious. Because Astrid would try to break the tension by cracking her “always look at someone in the eyes when you greet them, lest a demon thing you’re talking to them 😉” joke and Kaisa would immediately go “oh I’m sorry it’s just that my autism makes it hard especially since I’m already nervous :// I have protection against demons though dw” and Astrid would have no choice but to run away and live as a hermit Forever
