(disclaimer, I've only played through the first game, so I will only be including characters from that game and not the sequel)

5. Boss

It's in her name, she gaslights, gatekeeps, girlbosses and looks good doing it! Jokes aside though, I love how she is simultaneously secretly and subtly caring while also just. blunt and unapologetic about overworking her subordinates or unashamed to crack dirty innuendos. She has all sorts of random trinkets and junk all over her office, from boy band posters to christmas trees to party decorations. Shady but with a heart of gold. She's not quite as deep a spoiler angst rabbit hole character as some others, but she's a joy every time she's on screen, ya love to see her <3

4. Hitomi

This is my one underrated underdog pick, but ourgh, loving and supportive single mothers doing their best while keeping their dark tragic backstories private from their kids, my beloved <3 I could delve into detail just how magnificent her backstory is, from the circumstances of her being a mother to her tragic past love life, and how being a stereotypical normal boring sweet schoolteacher mother figure, she's been unfortunately involved in the most dangerous secrets but just trying to live her best life with her daughter despite it. Hitomi my beloved, seemingly simple characters with hidden depth, my beloved

3. Aiba

She is soooo silly and also maybe the only sane person here, or at least sane in the way an AI personality would be. She is Date's AI assistant and also his prosthetic eye, and the right gif is the form she takes when she's outside of his eyesocket. The left gif is her digital avatar form. She's constantly judging Date's thoughts and actions, she gets excited about bugs, she helps Date be a better parent (more on that later), she does Hacker Skillz on a whim, she might be capable of actual love even as an AI! Truly a worthy pfp :3

2. Date

You've heard of Love to Hate, but this guy will force you to learn what Hate to Love means. Cringy horny porn-addict failure of a person, how dare you be an amazing character with a super sad spoiler backstory and amazing angst going on. I need to push him down some stairs right now. He has a fantastic coworker good cop/bad cop dynamic going on with Aiba his eyball assistant (he's mysteriously missing an eye and Aiba is his replacement), and he's a grumpy but genuinely trying temporary guardian for a bratty middle schooler who holds him in contempt and pretends to hate him (i.e. we're talking wet cat & wet cat found family dynamics >:)

1. Mizuki

I love this child. I would do anything for this child. I would do anything to be this child. Snarky ass middle schooler. Human weapon of mass destruction because why not. Had a hard home life with her abusive or neglectful parents and is now a tsundere wet cat found family roommate with Date whom she bullies like a sibling but is still in denial about who her real family are. She carries grenades and such in her backpack even to school and she carries her favorite lead pipe with her everywhere. (spoilers) she has seen both of her parents' dead bodies and in some timelines her best friends' and favorite teacher's as well...

Ough the character depth and growth and angst and silliness of this character, the sheer badassery, her iconic-ness--oh yeah, she canonically says in game says that she respects and is inspired the LGBT community (based). You just can't get more S-tier than Mizuki. Might be favorite character of all time. I'm so excited when I eventually play the sequel because she's the protagonist in it! :D

Sayaka Miki (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) "She highly respects and admires Mami Tomoe, an experienced magical girl that fights for justice, and aspires to be like her, but watches Mami die during a Witch hunt. Sayaka then makes a contract with Kyubey and becomes a magical girl to heal the hand of Kyōsuke Kamijo, a boy she has been infatuated with since childhood, so he can play violin again. She believes that her wish is selfless and magical girls should use their magic to help people, causing her to clash with Kyoko over her selfish outlook. As Sayaka's ideals are confronted by the reality of her wish's consequences and the stress of fighting, her view of the world is slowly corrupted. She becomes hateful and distrustful towards others, including Madoka, whom she lashes out at and accuses of being selfish. She then learns that her soul is no longer in her body, but her Soul Gem, causing her to believe she’s a zombie, so she holds off on confessing to Kyōsuke because she feels unworthy of him. Unfortunately, her friend Hitomi then tells Kyōsuke she loves him, causing the two of them to get together. Because of this heartbreak, Sayaka loses faith in her ideals and succumbs to despair, corrupting her Soul Gem into a Grief Seed and turning her into the Witch Oktavia von Seckendorff: “The mermaid witch; it is in her nature to fall in love. Looking for the feeling that moved her so long ago, she moves with the entire concert hall. Her fortune only turns under the weight of memories and no longer moves toward the future. Nothing will reach her any longer. She will come to know nothing more. She simply allows no one to disturb her minions' playing.” Oktavia parallels the Little Mermaid, reflecting how Sayaka gave everything up for her love and destroyed herself when he chose another girl, becoming a monster so powerful that Kyoko has to perform a suicide attack to give her a mercy kill."

So since I'm actually getting really invested in my protagonist Iris AU, I figured it'd be nice to have all the relevant information in one place. (Also so that I'm not clogging up the tag with sketches and whatnot). Under the cut is pretty much everything related to this AU, and this post will be updated when I come up with new things. I'm also hoping to have this AU fully realized as a fanfic or something similar in the future.

The AU contains major spoilers for the first AITSF game and mild spoilers for the second. There are also spoilers for the AU itself, if that's important to you.

Iris Sagan - 24 - She/Her - Rookie ABIS Agent

Iris Sagan is a detective fresh out of college who shows incredible promise. The moment that she learned about ABIS, she begged her mom to let her intern for them, thinking that it was like some kind of secret society. Her memory from before she graduated high school is kind of spotty, but she's chalked it up to her scatterbrained nature and neurodivergency. Though, if she's to be honest, she sometimes wonders what she's forgotten...

OTA - AI-Ball - He/It

OTA's name is short for Optical Technology Assistant. He's the first experimental sentient AI, though with him being the first of his kind, he's got quite a few… quirks in his programming. Even with his intense fixation on technology and otaku culture, however, he's surprisingly level-headed when it counts, and accounts for 95% of Iris's impulse control during missions.

Hitomi Sagan - 43 - She/Her - ABIS Agent & Tech Coordinator

Iris's mother, and the woman who handles the technology side of ABIS. She's the inventor of the AI-balls, maintainer of the psync machine, and robotics enthusiast. Because she lost her right arm in an accident long ago, she uses a prosthetic instead. She loves her daughter dearly, but could she be hiding something from her...?

Mizuki Okiura - 21 - She/Her - ABIS Department Head

Known among the MPD as a "genius among geniuses," Mizuki was thrust into the role of department head without so much as a chance to say no. She graduated from high school and college at a very young age with full honors, and is a "once-in-a-lifetime gifted girl" in both academics and athletics. However, she frequently deals with intense loneliness and imposter syndrome, but refuses to tell anyone about it...

Amame Doi - 24 - She/Her - Maid Cafe Waitress & Rookie ABIS Agent

Amame is a very busy girl. Her family lives below the poverty line, and she has taken it upon herself to provide for them first and foremost. After graduating high school, she immediately went into the workforce, landing a job at Sunfish Pocket and insisting that she be scheduled as many hours as possible (with overtime). Her sense of responsibility is ultimately her greatest strength and fatal flaw, and she's constantly exhausted to the point where it's become the norm for her. After a certain incident unfolds involving Iris, she is hastily recruited into ABIS to assist in the investigation...

KIZUNA - AI-Ball - She/It

Amame's AI-ball partner, who acts as her moral support and physical health monitor. She is a gentle, soft-spoken AI, but is firm and brutally honest when it counts. To Amame and Iris, her humanoid form looks somewhat familiar, but it must be a coincidence, right?

Ayuna "Aiba" Imai - 30 - She/They - VTuber

A VTuber contracted with Leminscate, who uses a chubby little hamster character as her online avatar. Her favorite genres to play on stream are strategic simulation, puzzle, and psychological horror. She has a secret love for dating sims, too, but adamantly denies this whenever it's brought up. Her best friend and biggest fan is Date, but there are times where she's overwhelmed by his enthusiasm.

Kaname Date - 40 - He/Him - Salaryman

Date's a pretty average salaryman, all things considered. He works a normal office job that he doesn't particularly love or hate, and is friends with Shizue's parents. However, when it comes to Aiba, he's her most ardent supporter, and stops by Lemniscate whenever he has a day off to hang out with her. They're good friends, having known each other for a number of years, but he can be a bit obnoxious when he gets riled up.

Shizue "Boss" Kuranushi - 15 - She/Her - 9th Grade Delinquent

The de facto leader of Sekiba High's resident girl gang, who insists on being called "Boss". Unsatisfied with both her school and home life, she lashes out against any and all authority figures who try to placate her. But when she's properly respected, she has a surprising amount of emotional maturity, hence why she's the one her delinquent friends look up to. Her parents are the first victims of the Double Death Serial Killings, and she claims to not care that they're dead, but...

Kuruto Ryuki - 29 - He/They - (Former) MPD Detective

Once a (reportedly) exemplary detective in the MPD, after being asked to investigate a suspected cult, he was immediately targeted by the cult's leader and easily indoctrinated on account of his already shaky mental health. He frequently dissociates and experiences intense hallucinations and delusions about the world, insisting that nothing is real and that all of his pain will be wiped away soon. He was only rescued from within the cult a few months ago, and is grappling with the desire to return out of fear that he'll be unsafe outside it. Tama is currently his main support and the one person keeping him from running back.

Tamaki "Tama" Miyu - 33 - She/They - Therapist

A therapist that the MPD specifically sought out to treat Ryuki after he fell into cult propaganda. Tama can be hotheaded, perverted, and indignant at the wrong times, but she takes the health and safety of her patients very seriously. Even off the clock, she frets about her clients, and has taken to doing more and and more research on cult deprogramming late into the night for Ryuki's sake.

Tokiko Shigure - 59 - She/It - Order of % Head

The head of the Order of %, an ideological organization that believes that the world is a simulation, and therefore wishes to control it. Supposedly, by doing so, the members will be able to live however they'd like with no consequences or pain to speak of. The MPD suspects the Order of being an illegal cult, but Tokiko fervently denies any such claims. Considering the current state of Ryuki's mental health, however, it's obvious that she's hiding something...

Manaka Iwai - 43 - She/Her - Assassin/Serial Killer

Iris's biological mother, presumed dead as of 24 years ago. Once a kind and compassionate woman, after a near-death experience and being declared missing, she was threatened by the Kumakuras into becoming an assassin for them. Her first target was So Sejima, but only after she killed him did she realize that his three-year-old son was watching, and subsequently adopted him both as a way to prevent herself from being discovered by the police, but also because she didn't want to leave him without any parents. Over the course of many, many years, she's lived in hiding with Saito, and her once-kind heart has slowly become desensitized to the violence she's been forced to commit. Once the Kumakuras began to reform, she fell in with the Order of % and now works for them. She knows that her daughter is out there somewhere, and hopes to find her again so that the three of them can be a family together.

Saito Iwai (formerly Sejima) - 27 - Enforcer/Serial Killer

Manaka's adopted son, who has been reportedly missing since So Sejima's death. He holds no ill will towards Manaka for killing his biological father, and in fact appreciates her dearly, as she genuinely loves him and even lets him kill people with her. The only person that ever got away from him was Iris, who he attempted to kill in a fit of jealousy upon realizing that she was Manaka's "real kid". However, he did manage to gouge out her left eye before she escaped. Like his mother, he works for the Order of %, joining up with them after the Kumakuras reformed.

i'll do tomoko because i don't think i've talked about them much on my blog yet

weapon of choice? any particular reason they chose their weapon?

funfact! in any universe where tomoko is combat ready they use folding fans or ribbons since i've always liked how those weapons are animated. they bring an elegence to tomoko's character that doesn't get showcased in their day-to-day that i really like. tomoko themselves chooses them for moverability and also because they look unassuming

do they sleep well at night?

i can't remember who i made the joke to that tomoko sleeps like a corpse lmao? led on their back perfectly straight with their hands clasped over their stomach. SUPER heavily as well so they also don't make a lot of sound and it's disconcerting as fuck. they don't get why though, they are just sleeping so well

how do they show that they care about someone? how do they express that they don't like someone?

OKAY tomoko would absolutely be the person who makes their friends accounts on their favourite mmo and puts in all the early game hard work to get them at a higher level with a ton of really rare and powerful gear. logs in everyday and does their dailies for them until they're ready to play. outside of that they're kind of... awkward. and don't know how to express themselves outside of their comfort zone at all (anywhere but online). when tomoko and hitomi start talking properly in act 2, all of tomoko's affection for hitomi is expressed through them roleplaying as their avatars in the mmo they're both obsessed with, and eventually that bleeds into texting and how tomoko talks to hitomi when they're alone

disliking someone is much easier. for example they will demand a level of respect that is just... inappropriate for the situation and continue to nag until it's achieved, showing they view people they dislike as lower to them. a big thing about tomoko and mika's early dynamic for example is mika doesn't use honorifics and has a much rougher(?) way of speaking which tomoko finds extremely disrespectful and rude. from that point on tomoko is very antagonising and demanding of mika's respect, calling her childish nicknames and singling her out in social situations, which ultimately doesn't get anywhere because mika can give back as good as she gets but really showcases a familar meaner but much more personal side to tomoko that wasn't seen before.

currently reading: ok so I'm not actually much of a published fiction reader, tumblr don't kill me, but:

I just discovered that the library system my Professional Dwelling is in carries Hitomi Shida's Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible, so I'm digging into that with great enthusiasm. (That book has like a total of 10 words, you might be saying, and you'd be right. Oops.)

On an Avatar: The Last Airbender kick, so I'm reading a few fics. The kintsugi series by @discordiansamba and Cheating at Pai Sho by @muffinlance are two WIPs I love.

¡Hola de nuevo!

No es que no tenga nada más que hacer, es que no quiero hacer nada en este momento 😅😅😅 ser ama de casa es difícil, súmale tres niños, un perro, una novela en revisión y otra a medio proceso de creación y se vuelve un poco cansado, así que, veamos si un shot de Escaflowne me levanta 🥰🥰🥰 volvamos con el Escaflowne Voice Meme segunda parte.

4. ¿Cuál es tu subtrama menos favorita? ¿Crees que deberían cambiar algo? ¿Qué podría haberlo mejorado?

Esta es, en serio, una pregunta difícil. Digo, me encanta todo en la serie, y cada giro que dio la trama me dejaba al borde del asiento de un modo u otro, así que, luego de pensar y pensar y pensar, elegí el drama del triángulo amoroso de Millerna-Allen-Hitomi cuando llegan a Palas.

Es mi menos favorito porque es una de las partes que más me agobió (digo, además de la falta de un beso entre Van y Hitomi... O Van diciendo "¡Te necesito... Necesito tu poder para ganar la guerra 🤦🏻‍♀️). Entre el flirteo descarado de Millerna, Hitomi y su nula tolerancia al alcohol mostrándose feliz por la "desgracia" de Millerna (no puedo imaginar que ser Millerna y estar comprometida con Dryden sea una desgracia, en serio) y luego Allen siguiéndole la corriente en el techo a Millerna... Allen no me caía mal hasta ese momento, lo juro, solo no me llamaba la atención y estaba en esa fase de "¿Qué hombre andaría con el cabello largo? ¡Los hombres lo usan corto!"... Por suerte salí de esa etapa a mediados de preparatoria, así que a Allen le tocó la última parte de mi intolerancia infantil.

En cuanto a si podrían haber mejorado algo... ¡EXIJO UN BESO ENTRE VAN Y HITOMI! 😤

5. ¿Pareja romántica favorita? ¿Qué tipo de arte o ficción te gustaría de ellos? ¿Qué creencias tienes sobre ellos? ¿Cuál es tu pareja menos romántica y creíble?

Obvio que mis favoritos son Van y Hitomi... Y siempre pensé que si Hitomi no lo quiere, yo me lo quedo... O al menos se lo queda mi Alter ego 🤭🤭🤭 la pelirroja de ojos verdes que está con Van en mi avatar.

Adoro ver fanarts de ellos, juro que si, mis favoritos son, sin duda alguna, los de Escafan y @quietduna en cuanto a fanfics, he leído muchos, he escrito algunos y sigo esperando por capítulos nuevos de los que más me han gustado. Casi no leo AUs de ellos, pero he encontrado varios super interesantes.

En cuanto a teorías, de verdad creo que Hitomi regresó a Gaea cuando estuvo lista para ser una adulta responsable... Y lo creo debido a algunas imágenes del libro de arte donde se muestran con hijos 🥰🥰🥰

Por otro lado, no me creo las historias donde juntan a Van con Merle... No importa cuánto lo ame la gata, Van de verdad la ve como su hermanita menor y ninguna persona sana encuentra deseable a sus hermanos, vamos, bien podrían haberlos sacado de la basura cuando eran bebés 😏😏😏 ok, no, pero se darán una idea del tipo de relación que llevo con mi hermano 🤭🤭🤭

6. ¿Qué te gustaría ver en un posible remake o secuela? ¿Incluirías más personajes secundarios o de relleno? ¿Te gustaría una nueva aventura que podría funcionar por si misma?

Si se hiciera un remake, me gustaría que el diseño de personajes no fuera demasiado diferente porque en serio los amo, pero me encantaría que alargaran un poco más las tramas de los últimos capítulos. Digo, ¿sabían que la serie iba a tener más de 30 capítulos originalmente y les cortaron el presupuesto? O que la recortaron aún más cuando iban por el capítulo 22? De verdad me gustaría saber que iba a pasar en los últimos capítulos antes del segundo recorte, después de todo, esos últimos capítulos son la parte más apresurada. Estoy segurisima de que iban a hacer algo aún más extraordinario con la trama de Atlantis, incluso Folken podía haber dado más, pero tuvieron que abreviar tanto como fue posible una historia que de por sí, ya había sido abreviada. Por algo Escaflowne no tiene relleno.

No sé si incluiría más personajes, los que ya se habían mostrado eran bastante interesantes como para seguir hasta el final, al menos en mi opinión.

Sobre una nueva aventura... No lo sé, la verdad es que para eso ya tengo con algunos fanfics que sigo esperando que se continúen, como ese donde Hitomi tiene una hija, la cual trabaja como ingeniera en Estados Unidos y es enviada a Gaea para ayudar a un Van a mediados de su veintena... Por Escaflowne, no saben cómo amé el slowburning entre esos dos, en serio... Una pena que la autora todavía lo tenga en pausa... El fanfic está en fanfiction.net, se llama "Begin Again" y fue escrito por Ela Black... En serio, amo a April y a ese Van más maduro y receloso 🥰🥰🥰

7. ¿Cuál prefieres entre película, serie, mangas o videojuegos? ¿Qué te gusta o desagrada de cada uno?

Mi favorito, obvio, es la serie. La amo, más aún con el doblaje de México 🥰🥰🥰 aunque el original de Japón no está nada mal. Para mí ésta ha sido mi serie favorita desde que la vi por primera vez en 1999 siendo una quinceañera. Su música me ha acompañado para estudiar, para leer, para hacer mis mudanzas y para otras cosas. La serie en su es mi lugar seguro, me he refugiado en ella al menos tres veces, cuando he tenido crisis depresivas un tanto fuertes, no sé, pero verla entera, disfrutarla, me ha ayudado a levantarme cuando nada más podía hacerlo.

Luego sigue la película. Me pareció interesante los cambios en la historia, el mundo, las culturas, los personajes... Y Van... ¡Oh, Van! Ese estilo salvaje le queda taaan bien 🥰🥰🥰 no importa que cuando está tranquilo se vea más tierno que una calabacita 🥰🥰🥰 y cuando está peleando se ve más letal que en el anime 😈😈😈

Y hablando de estilo, el diseño visual de todos los personajes es increíble... Voy a sonar como Ladybug, pero si hubiera visto la película antes que la serie, me habría enamorado del diseño de mundo y personajes de la película... Una pena... ¿O no? 🤔🤔🤔

Hubo una temporada en la que mi uso del internet mejoró de manera notable, se incrementó mi tiempo libre y mi adicción a Escaflowne se me fue de las manos... Y me leí los mangas... TODOS LOS MANGAS de Escaflowne, tanto la versión shonen cómo la versión shoujo y ¿Saben que? Doy gracias a todos los dioses verdaderos y ficticios por el manga shoujo porque de ahí salió la base para el diseño visual de Van 🥰🥰🥰 y lo amo. En la versión shonen parecía una versión distinta de París (Ferio) de Magic Knight Rayearth y pues... No tengo tan desarrollado el síndrome Elektra 😅😅😅 de verdad prefiero este otro.

En cuanto al juego... Me apena admitir que apenas con esto me he venido enterando de que había un videojuego 😳😳😳 por otro lado, soy Otaku, no gamer, el Gamer es mi hermano... Y mi marido también, para que me hago 🤭🤭🤭 pero no tenía idea, es un excelente dato curioso para mí.

Sayaka Miki (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) "She highly respects and admires Mami Tomoe, an experienced magical girl that fights for justice, and aspires to be like her, but watches Mami die during a Witch hunt. Sayaka then makes a contract with Kyubey and becomes a magical girl to heal the hand of Kyōsuke Kamijo, a boy she has been infatuated with since childhood, so he can play violin again. She believes that her wish is selfless and magical girls should use their magic to help people, causing her to clash with Kyoko over her selfish outlook. As Sayaka's ideals are confronted by the reality of her wish's consequences and the stress of fighting, her view of the world is slowly corrupted. She becomes hateful and distrustful towards others, including Madoka, whom she lashes out at and accuses of being selfish. Looking for the feeling that moved her so long ago, she moves with the entire concert hall. Her fortune only turns under the weight of memories and no longer moves toward the future. Nothing will reach her any longer. She will come to know nothing more. She simply allows no one to disturb her minions' playing.” Oktavia parallels the Little Mermaid, reflecting how Sayaka gave everything up for her love and destroyed herself when he chose another girl, becoming a monster so powerful that Kyoko has to perform a suicide attack to give her a mercy kill."
