I'm seriously sick to my stomach sometimes over him and Brea because I seriously think that there's a good chance that he might have been a LITTLE better off with her as his friend. One of the only people who trusts him, isn't scared of him, and loves him for everything that he is. Better off, but not different.

I think there's something to be said about things still turning out the way they do. Not to quote Dr. Who but it makes me think of the Vincent Van Gogh episode, "The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant."

Maybe her love didn't make it any easier to face the criticism and rejection of the council, but that also didn't mean her love didn't MATTER to him....

And ofc that also reminds me of the other quote, “the love was there. it didnt change anything. it didnt save anyone. there were just too many forces against it. but it still matters that the love was there”

actually I forgot to look into this last night but my time of contempt reread has made me a smidgey confused about how the nilfgaardian invasion is depicted in Thronebreaker. these canons are the worst i am biting and gnawing on them.
