How to Meal Plan: Creating a Practical Meal Planning System in Your Hobonichi Planner
Do you like to meal plan? Do you get tired of writing the same things over and over again? Do you frequently eat from a rotation of foods you enjoy and like to mix and match? If that’s the case, you may want to try my method for how to meal plan in a Hobonichi Planner — or other traditional paper planner you use. Hobonichi does not currently have dedicated spaces for meal planning built into the…

Digital Planner Preview
Tumblr media Tumblr media
EDIT: jfc! click on the images to see the full picture, tumblr is being dumb and cropping them however it wants (or i'm being dumb and i don't know how to use tumblr anymore)
last year i made some templates for myself because i was very into digital planning.
what i wanted was a digital planner that resembled the hobonichi cousin with a minimal design so that i could customize it from week to week like a bullet journal and that i could reuse year after year.
what i came up with is what you can see in the first image, an undated planner with four different templates for different uses. the grid on all the sections is a 5mm grid and the templates are a4 size. it was important to me to have be able to see the month and the week in one page so that's why i chose a horizontal layout and it served me pretty well.
now let me explain a bit more what's in each of the templates.
calendar: this one is self-explanatory, it's a calendar with room for six weeks. it also has a sidebar for whatever you want to use it and a space on the top to add the month.
weekly: also self-explanatory, this template has a full vertical week on one page, plus the sidebar. the blank space on top of the sidebar is where i used to add a monthly calendar and highlight the current week but it can be used for other things. each day also has a divider at the top, for events or important tasks or meals.
daily/notes: these two i used interchangeably depending on my mood. the first one has three columns with a space to write the date at the top left corner and thew second one has a sidebar and a top bar with a wider section that's not divided.
in the second image you can see an example of how i used these pages. it's more in line with how i plan currently on a physical book, only using a couple of colors and my handwriting. but i used to go nuts with different colored pens and highlighters, digital stickers, and even photos.
now, would you be interested in me making this available to you guys? because i can definitely do that. i can also modify this to make it more printable friendly (like maybe splitting the pages so that you guys can have a big calendar on two a5 pages instead).

One Month in the Hobonichi HON
Tumblr media
Another review that nobody asked for but I am going to write anyway because it makes me happy.
Tl;dr: I've really enjoyed using the HON so far!
I had some anxiety before ever even using the book that the A6 would be too small and that I should have gone for the A5 HON or even the Cousin. But I think because my writing is smaller to fit on the small grids and I am using a thin tipped pen (Jetstream 0.5), it makes entries that would have taken more space on a 5mm dot grid A5 paper fit just fine on the 0.37mm grid. I have had a few entries spill onto the next page of the book, but I've not had any entries take up more than a bit of room on the next page nor have I had to tape in a new page to compensate for the amount of excess writing one entry takes up. Honestly, if I had gotten an A5 Hobonichi, I probably would have been lamenting about all of the wasted space I had on each page (though, perhaps I would have room for bigger pictures or more decorative elements than what I use now).
Since I don't use the HON for planning anything, I use the checklist at the top of the page just as a gratitude log for the day, just to write a few moments from the day that made me happy so I can remember that there is indeed good in every day. I don't really use the monthly calendar other than to back-fill appointments or holidays, but I rarely remember to flip to it since I keep that information in an actual planner spread usually. Perhaps I will find a better use for those pages someday, but I don't think I'll be that upset if they go mostly unused. The reason I got the HON was for daily entries, and I have been maintaining that function for it well.
There is a bit of warping along the edges of the used pages that is noticeable when looking at the closed book, plus a little bit of extra bulk from a few pictures being stuck onto some of the pages. But I think that just comes from the journal being used as is its intended purpose. To be loved it so be changed, as they say, and I can't expect the book to stay in perfect, pristine condition forever if I am using it. The bulk of January is not particularly noticeable when the book is held closed, though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do want to add more pictures and maybe decorative elements like stickers or washi tape to my entries, but I am a little afraid of adding more bulk to the HON than it is capable of holding. I think I've seen a few folks say that it doesn't hold bulk as well as a Techo Original or Cousin. I might play around with it and put sticky notes or scrap pieces of paper intermittently throughout the book to test it's durability in handling bulk before I make any commitments to sticking more stuff in it. But for now, I am having fun adding a couple of images here and there from my day, whether it be a picture of something I drew, something nice that I got in the mail, a meal I had that day, or the sunrise from that morning. It's nice to have a little visual snapshot of something from that day that made me feel good without even having to read through the entry.
I have also been considering using color-coded "tags" to label the contents of my daily entries since they can vary at times. Sometimes my entries document the severity of symptoms I experienced through the day, summarize the events of my day, or serve as a place for me to empty my head of excess unneeded thoughts that make it hard for me to rest at the end of the day. I think it would be nice to know what entries have what kind of content at a glance, or if there are any entries that overlap in content. I've been trying to find stickers in stores lately, but I may just have to order some online since I have yet to find any that suit my fancy.
I can truly say that I look forward to continuing to use the book through the rest of 2024!

Work, productivity, and self-care
After a month's sick leave, I'm back to work this week. I'm being thrown straight back in to the final lap of my PhD: this is crunch time, when me at my most perfectionist and unhealthy could absolutely run myself into the ground with over-work. Equally, this is when me at my most avoidant and unhealthy could hide under my duvet, panic and procrastinate, and miss very important deadlines.
So. How do you successfully juggle the required challenging work that needs to get done, and minding yourself? My plan is a work in progress, changing constantly, but this is my current blueprint:
Having a cosy morning routine that works for me, and is flexible. Some mornings I go to the gym, some days I work from home, and some I need to be in the office, so my morning routine needs to be adaptable or it won't stick. I have a list of four things, including movement (whether that's a quick little dance party with my headphones on or a yoga-in-bed session), meditation, reading (a nice calming book, and often with my morning coffee), and checking in with myself (whether that's just sitting and seeing how I feel, journalling a bit, or writing down a few to-dos that are clouding my brain). I try to do two of these each morning, picked from the list depending on the day.
My two to-do lists (courtesy of Struthless on YouTube): one "bare minimum" list that has some really necessary I-won't-eat-dinner-if-I-don't-buy-food type items, and one "ideal" list which has other items on it, that if I'm feeling good and motivated, I can tackle. Because I've been off work, these two lists have so far been home and care tasks, like doing my laundry, cooking meals, paying bills etc., but I'm going to try to adapt this to suit work as well... maybe by creating an equivalent two lists for work tasks, to help me avoid overwhelm.
Living by my bible "How to keep house while drowning" by KC Davis. This gentle, loving hug of a book is the principle by which I'm guiding my days. Keeping my space healthy and clean is one of the key things that helps me stay grounded and not topple over the cliff of overwhelm. I highly, highly recommend picking it up if you like the sound of its blurb - it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Taking productivity literature, absorbing the bits that seem useful, scanning it through a lens of toxic-productivity-culture-recognition, and evaluating whether I can implement it in a healthy, useful way that doesn't trigger my susceptibility to chronic overwork and ableist perfectionism. I recently read Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman and was floored by how consistently I felt completely seen by many of his anecdotes. I essentially am trying to take the mindset of Laziness Does Not Exist by Dr Devon Price (again, so well worth a read) and applying the lessons and lens of that book to techniques like those presented in books like Hyperfocus by Chris Bailey, and picking and choosing what parts serve me.
Of course, my classic procrastination trick of wanting to deeply research a whole pile of different organisation techniques is desperately pulling me to reevaluate whether I should continue using my Hobonichi-inspired Filofax print-outs, or whether I should switch to another system (that I have previously used and subsequently abandoned), like Trello Boards, Notion, Obsidian, etc...
I'm sure once I actually start back to work, my ideas and plans will change, and in practise I will find other techniques or tools that serve me better.

hi! sorry, i'm new to all this stuff. what's the difference between a bullet journal and a planner? also, i love your account! it's inspiring and so are you! you seem so kind... hope you have a good day/night! 💖
Hey! Welcome hehe! There is no need to apologise if you’re new :D
So, when I first started seeing bujo and only up until recently I thought it was using a key/legend (the circle for tasks, dots for events, kind of thing) in a blank notebook where you designed your own monthly, weekly, daily spreads, and you could add extra pages that you felt you need to track (e.g. fitness, sleep, study). However, since reading the book - which I’d 100% recommend - I realised that it is slightly more than that. It is less about being a chronological planner but more of a productivity journal, notebook, and planner all in one.
Essentially, it is a DIY planner that relies on an index to allow you to move through the notebook. If you go by the book, it doesn't have to follow a traditional planner set up. You start with the index/table of contents, a future log (for the year), then you make a monthly planner (generally just a dated list), then you can add your daily logs where you briefly write down the parts of your day using the key/legend that is provided or you make up yourself. Between all these pages, you add in anything else you might need: e.g. shopping lists, meal plans, wishlist, expenses. You, if following the bujo method as described, just add them in and disregard the disorganised sections. You number the page and add it to the index - you have to let go of that “it shouldn’t interrupt the month of May” feeling! The method is essentially supposed to strip away the bits you don’t need, allowing you to focus only on what matters to you. If you go by the examples in the books, you don’t need to design spreads or spend time doing that artistic side of it. But if you want to you can! I feel, and I’ve mentioned it before, when I see ‘bullet journals’ I definitely feel some are less of a bujo and more of a customised planner - especially if it is disregarding a lot proportion of the suggested elements. I’m not going to be like “ah that isn’t a bullet journal because it's not got this, this and this”, but I think for me who originally saw all of these amazingly decorated and beautiful done spreads as bullet journals was put off to the idea of starting my own. I had this idea that that was what it was - highly decorated, organised, no room for mistakes, etc. So now, I try to recognise that both can be types of bullet journals, however a selection of those I see online are probably more customised/DIY planners that aren’t always following the traditional parts of bujo.
As for a planner, I’d just generally classified these are any pre-made dated (or can be undated) book that is either monthly, weekly and/or daily spread. I’m currently using the Hobonichi planner with elements of the bullet journal method. I may in the future try to follow bujo in its entirety but for now, I wanted to try the hobonchi! For me, having an already set out planner is easier in general however bujo does give you a lot of flexibility and adaptability! x

Trying to figure out my planning system for 2019. I want to maximize what I get, productivity-wise, from the planning system without spending too much time on writing the same stuff over and over again. I plan to use three planners in 2019: 1. The first one is the Hobonichi Cousin Avec, described below. 2. The second is a Filofax-like ringed personal organizer which is a dump zone for stuff I need to remember. It’s okay to write as ugly as possible in this one, as the pages are removable. 3. The third is an undated APICA 3-year journal that I hope will last me 6 years (split each page into half). If I get into medical school next fall, then I will write a short entry everyday for all six years of the MD program. If not, I’ll wait until I get in. I want to record every single day of my life as a medical student. Now, for the Hobonichi... YEARLY Things I plan on tracking include health (I have lupus, so it’s absolutely necessary), # of hours spent studying, and other stuff. MONTHLY Nothing special here. Appointments, study plan, basically the same as what I write in my Filofax monthly. I might make more detailed study plans because of the extra space. WEEKLY Schedule, to-do lists, and meal tracker. DAILY I will be using a Cousin for planning/productivity, so there won’t be a lot of illustrations or decorations on my daily pages. I plan to split the daily page into five or six parts: 1. Tasks: non-academic stuff I need to do for the day. Like laundry or dorm cleaning or picking up a package. 2. Miscellaneous: this will most likely be in bullet-journal format. 3. Time/Financial Management: might purchase stamps for this to record how I spend my time and money. 4. Study Notes: since the A5 is massive, and I am a full-time college/to-be medical student, I will write down short summaries of what I learned that day. I might also summarize journal articles and things like that. 5. Bible Study: Bible verses, prayer journal...etc. Will also include other things I care about, such as gender equality/social justice stuff...

I want to make a bullet journal because I need to get my life organized, but I'm a little lost on where to start. The first thing to get would be a bullet journal and a couple of fine-tip coloured markers, right? Do you have any reliable brands you could recommend, or do you have a tag you could direct me to for beginners?
Bullet Journal Notebook Recommendations
Hey there! It depends on what type of paper you’d like, but if you’re going for the traditional 5mm dotted paper, I would recommend the Leuchtturm1917 books as they are a good size, and the paper is better than the Moleskeins. Other than that, any notebook with good quality paper will do, you could go with branded name ones like Rhodia, or you can go generic and just go to the local stationery store and feel the paper to see if it’s thick enough. Generally, if the paper feels close in thickness to regular printer paper which is 80 gsm (grams per square metre or whatever the equivalent conversion would be in America) then it’s good paper that won’t bleed. If you’re not too bothered by the actual “notebook” format, then the paper that Muji sells as repacks for their binders is honestly soooooo smooth, I was surprised at how well all of my pens wrote on it, even cheaper ones.
Fineliner Recommendations
As for fineliners, I like the Staedler Triplus coloured markers and Muji pens (either 0.38 or 0.5mm are my preferred thicknesses), which are great for writing as they create quite fine lines. They don’t tend to bleed through the paper either. Kikki K pens are good too if you have that in America, though I have to say that the pen is a bit wobbly because the hole at the bottom of the pen that lets the nib through is wider than the actual pen nib, so I had to get some sticky tape and wrap it around the pen nib a few times before reinserting it into the outer holding “shell”. The Muji one is far better in terms of stability since there is no wobble as the pen nib is designed for the shell. I don’t really like the Stabilo 88s as they bleed too much and are too thick - they’re more like felt tip pens in that sense. I used to also use Uniball Rollerball pens as well, which are quite reliable, though they tend to smudge a bit.
Generally, if you want a premium writing experience then try not to cheap out, I would say premium paper is the most critical factor. But it’s also true that a pen is a pen and paper is paper, so don’t feel pressured by studyblrs to get expensive items.
Planner Recommendations: If Bullet Journalling is Not For You…
Also the thing is that occasionally you’ll try bullet journalling and find it too time consuming to draw out spreads, in which case I recommend the Muji planner. I would’ve considered purchasing it had I not already purchased a Kikki K planner. Has the minimalism look that many people like, has monthly pages, and also the weekly spreads have one side with 7 days of the week, and the other page grid paper for your trackers and the like, which is sort of like a Midori, but with more space available. Best to get the one with the vinyl cover to prevent stains and give a degree of water protection.
I also have considered purchasing a Hobonichi Techo Planner (this is the English A6 version of the Hobonichi Techo Original) as this is day to page, has a grid format and also has 12 o’clock annotated alongside a meals symbol. Smaller format is more portable, and is a good tradeoff for the day to page minimalistic format.
In terms of Kikki K, they also have a great variety of planners that are aesthetically super cute, but the one that is the most functional is the Inspiration Diary which has a yearly as well as quarterly goals and planning sections and several other cool pages, the weekly format as you can see below has a section for top 3 priorities, a to do list, a weekly goals section, dialy gratitude and dinner planner as well as space for up to 3 habits, all pre-planned. I would honestly have bought this were it in stock earlier.
Hope that helps! ^__^

Whether you are planning to open a new business, improve your personal life, skills, or getting ready for a high school reunion, it is ALWAYS a good idea to write everything down on paper. I personally have very high hopes for 2018 and want to share them with you. Hopefully, you will find this article helpful and take away at least a couple of ideas that you apply in your own life 🙂
I have a new planning system lined up for 2018! As you can see in the picture above, there are three traveler notebooks – the black Startbay Navigator cover along with the canary Hobonichi are a brand new addition to my bullet journal family, and I cannot wait to show you what is inside of them!
Let’s start with the black Navigator. This one currently has two notebooks inside – Rhodia Dotbook and Leuchtturm1917 in black colour and dotted grid.
Leuchtturm this year is strictly for planning only and I have counted the pages, so it fits all 12 months. The very first pages in this notebook are based on Your Best Year 2018 written by Lisa Jacobs. I wanted to try Lisa’s book ever since I discovered her in 2016, but did not feel ready for it. Well, this year is it! It took me a looong time to figure out what I want to do and where my life is heading. In 2017, everything finally started to make sense and I found myself doing what I truly love and enjoy – inspiring YOU and creating things I never imagined were possible!
  Leuchtturm1917 front
2018 intro spread
2018 Vision
The very first intro spread is decorated with a motivational sticker from our BTS Joy on paper shop, the background is blended together with distress inks and ‘What if, this year, you didn’t hold back?’ quote is from Lisa’s book.
2018 VISION (calendar from our shop) is based on 2018 goals. There is a series of helpful questions you want to answer for yourself:
What will I do for my future when I achieve this goal? What ridiculously extravagant gift will I reward myself if I achieve this vision? What will be better about my life then that I feel might be lacking now? After I’ve achieved this, what’s the next goal I’ll set to improve my life and business?
  Annual goals
2018 focus
It is very important to have a clear vision of what you want to do with your life every day. Annual goals and pages will definitely help to keep you stay motivated throughout the year!
Like I said before, this is based on Your Best Year book and I am using these five areas of focus in 2018 to see how it works out. Rather than trying to implement all kinds of different books/workbooks within my planning system, I am focusing on this one book only. Of course, I am going to twist it a bit to fit my style and knowledge, but at the moment, this is what it looks like.
5 AREAS OF FOCUS
MENTAL – study 1hr a day, spend time with like-minded people, do my thing, create a workbook & online course
SPIRITUAL – spin my chakras 3x a week (yoga), daily meditation (centre myself), creative hour 2x a week, spa day quarterly, KonMari my home
PHYSICAL – walk 5x a week, meal prep routine, regular skincare & hair appointments
FINANCIAL – become debt-free, house deposit in cash, social media management, business 10K revenue
RELATIONAL – more time with family, mum’s 50th birthday, intimate life & fertility test, regular date night/day out, permanent address
  Leading board
Best year plan
In 6 months
“COMMITMENT is doing the thing you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you.” – Darren Hardy
This page is my WHY. We talked about how having a reason is important in our 2017 planning series and it is precisely what I go by the entire year even when my days are not the brightest. This page could literally save your life, take a very good care of it. On the opposite page, you can see my 2018 leading board that will guide me throughtout the year. The key is below the line.
Best year 2018 plan is mapped out across these two pages and I love the look of it! Right in the middle, I have a couple of main goals that spread out into two areas – growth and profit. In each area, there are things I want to achieve in 2018 and those are then broken down into tactical tasks. This is very strategic and suits me well 🙂
Let’s proceed to:
In 6 months
MY RELATIONSHIPS ARE…   improved! We spend more time together feeling more relaxed and happy. There are no doubts and our relationship is thriving – we fall in love with each other harder than we ever did. Our boys get more attention and feel happier. We can travel together and take more time off.
I AM…   joyful! Alive and succeeding! I love my job, my Community, I am seizing opportunities, completing my goals, launching the workbook and online course, creating more and have a friend to have a cuppa with! I am a better person with confidence and I radiate happiness & health. People are attracted to me even more 🙂
MY HOME IS…   under an offer waiting for us to move in! I cannot wait to have my own big bright office with a fireplace and a large window seat! The house is spacious and bright, has a master fireplace in the living room with French door. I have an outdoor heated summerhouse for yoga & exercise, and we have a heated pool too! I love swimming! The garden is large with a pond and closure for Wallabies. I am painting and decorating the house to our liking. Our master bedroom has a very large bed with voiles, ottoman/small sofa and a fireplace. There are also French doors leading to a balcony overlooking mountains. We are in love and we have the house!
MY FINANCES…   in six months, I will be able to pay off 80% of our debts at least and celebrate my 31st birthday in style. We have enough to buy our own house in Scotland and we can visit my mum to celebrate her 50th birthday. My business earns enough, and I continue to invest in its growth! It keeps on growing 🙂
MY EXTENDED FAMILY AND FRIENDS…   we finally found a couple to enjoy a dinner with and have a healthy, honest relationship. My mum respects my family and nurture our bond. I can trust my friends and feel secure. They help us grow and we support each other.
On the opposite page of this 6-month vision are a few areas to help you keep focused:
Actions I need to take – be responsible
Who do I need to become – what kind of person you would love to be
Stop doing and do instead – replace bad habits with good ones
Next level – things to do by a certain date/time period to get to the next level
  Weekly task list
First quarter
3-month income
Weekly personal & business task list comes with a key to mark the tasks to – mine to continue, delegate, already delegated.
First quarter of the year is basically a rapid log where you jot down everything you want to achieve within the next three months. Then you take some of these things and put them in relevant category – finish, do, celebrate, study and start.
3-month income is a part of my 2018 budgeting and I wanted to have it along with the first quarter goals 🙂 Every month, you set a financial goal, write down where the money comes from and then add your total at the end of the month. And of course, once these three months are completed, you count the monthly totals and write down your quarterly income. Easy!
January setup starts right behind these planning pages.
Now, let’s have a look at our second notebook, Rhodia dotbook where I keep all of my yearly collections!

Most of these collections are pretty straight forward but I will break down a few for you 😉
365 Photo Challenge – take a photo every single day! A little tip – create a separate folder for this challenge in your phone and make this an every day habit on your tracker.
100 things to do in 1000 days – a project that I share with you earlier in 2017 and you can read more about it here.
Holidays & Birthdays – the idea is to map out all of the National/International holidays that are of your interest and put birthdays in the circle. Everything will be coloured in and shared on Instagram once finished!
2018 happenings – I like to use this calendar for logging my period (simply colour the dates with a colouring pencil/highlighter) and writing down things/events that happened throughout the year
A year long Body Shape – an exercise tracker for the entire year of 2018! On 1st of January, I will log my weight, arm/chest/waist/hips/thigh measurements and colour code my exercise. The numbers 1-52 are the numbers of individual weeks – at the end of each week, you write down how your exercise went, how you feel about your eating habits etc.
Savings trackers – the balloons are for a 52-week savings challenge – each week you save one balloon of your choice, anything your budget allows you to push! PYO is for Pick Your Own fruit – we always go to a ‘local’ (well over 50mi away) farm to pick our own fruit that we then freeze and use in food the entire year. And Christmas. The latter two are very simple and I take £5 off every week of our weekly grocery shopping budget – this way, you have extra £130 to spend on anything you need to pay for.
Orders aka To arrive – keep a track of your orders/incoming packages with this simple log! What’s on here – from, item, date initiated, expected by.
Community Notebook – this is a wonderful project that we do with our Between the steps Community group members. In this notebook, each of us creates a spread and then post the notebook to another member. As of today, the Community Notebook has made his first round around Europe and is currently being prepared to take off and travel around USA! If you would like to take a part, come and join us here 😉
Useful & Shops – helpful information. Discounts and your favourite shops.
Between the stesp Community – this is a spread for us and I will be writing down ideas, your suggestions etc. on here. What we do is a list of current projects/activities.
Instagram schedule – this is a monthly spread for scheduling posts on Instagram as I want to give it some form and order 🙂 It would also make a lovely monthly calendar!
I currently have two notebooks in my old brown Navigator – Moleskine cahier for keeping notes from podcasts and Rhodia Rhodiarama in chocolate colour for journaling that I keep separately in 2018.

I have used our new Between the steps challenge as a January welcome page in my journal 🙂
And last but not least – my new Hobonichi!!!! This is SO cute, I almost died when it arrived!!! It may seem silly to be THIS excited about stationery, but that is just who I am and I LOVE this stuff!! The quality of Hobonichi paper is unbelievable – it is very thin yet fountain pen friendly. Just look at the pen test page – yes, you can see it through, but it doesn’t bleed through at all! I have to admit that this impressed me a lot.

Hospital meals. Have been hospitalised over the weekend due to minor bleeding. Both baby and I were fine now. We were shocked and I could only grab my hand bag & rush to the emergency on Friday night. Luckily I have my basic stationery pouch inside and my baby #bujo so I could play & plan while resting. -#hobonichi cover -md paper A6 grid notebook -#steadtler pigment liner 0.3 -mt skinny washi 3mm . . . .

The above is the bright yellow box enclosing the first of two packages.  I know from checking online** that the second one should be delivered tomorrow or I will pick it up on Tuesday.  I am so glad that the company begins selling the following year’s planners in September.  In my work, we schedule hearings as much as 10 months out, so it really helps to have next’s year’s book available.  Even with the four additional months, by August, I find myself with a few cases scheduled well into next year.  Although I use an online calendar, there is nothing quite like having written something down to help one to remember, don’t you think?
**For those of you in the U.S., I noticed that I could track the package at usps.gov even from Japan – who knew? I didn’t.
In anticipation of my order’s arrival, I confess I have watched a number of “unboxing” videos on YouTube.  I am such a planner nerd:)! My kids think I am certifiable and I probably am:). But hey this, choir, and knitting keep me off the streets at night.;)
This year, I decided to stick with the cousin only.  The Techo is just too small for me to properly use the monthly calendar.  I thought I would have to put away that beautiful Liberty Fabric cover forever, but I found a new use for it, which you will see below.
So… let’s begin my “nonvideo unboxing:)”
The package came in an off-white bag as a wrapper.  A number of people thought that it was rather plain, but I liked it.  Plain is often good. The box is a very bright yellow.  My photos don’t begin to do justice to how bright that box is! My orders were relatively small, so I got a smaller size box – a good thing because I am more likely to use it. But my goodness, that yellow is quite a change from last year’s rather subdued pink!
Before you even get to open the box, you have two small glossy booklets -the first a little booklet about the Hobonichi and the little cartoon characters from the website that highlighted the introduction of the new line for this year. (See above)
Then, as you open the box, the quote – th
is year it is translated into English. Not sure what to make of the quote. Everything in the box is wrapped up in plastic – lot of recycling for this citizen:)!
This “book lasso” is something I will use to close this year’s book when I am done, so it is sitting in a bowl on my desk.
This year’s Cousin will be housed in a zippered cover, not from the Hobonichi store.  I got bookmarks, since this cover does not include them. There’s a new stencil which I got to add to the others I already have.
This year’s Cousin is housed in a cover similar to next year’s:
For the Techo cover, I decided to buy notebooks to use to take notes at meetings and during client visits.  This way, I will have a notebook with me at all times that I can fit into my purse. In addition to the Hobonichi Papers, I added a couple of A6 notebooks.
Finally, there are the two “freebies” – a set of dice to help with meal planning – something I will never use, but will give to my grandchildren to play with – and a VERY bright yellow pen with black, red, and blue ink.
The next package should be a few accessories I ordered.  More to come:)
Happy Planning! And if you can’t be good, be terrific:)!
If it’s September, it’s Hobonichi time:)!
