Yet indeed—what is there to say? It seems that it wasn't only his friends he's been avoiding of speaking about his situation.

He was....brave enough to let himself say yes in the beginning, though the more he delve in farther—of course, the remnants of his....fear was still there and surfacing every now and then. But who wouldn't be having needles tearing their seams as they sail through uncharted waters?

As suave he is, Nanami downs his drink. The lovers wait for him to speak with a knowing and fond smile. He laid down his glass on the table, exhaling gently as deeply from his mouth—the weight in his chest not changing nonetheless. And when he sits back, looking to his friends again, the silence with the three of them so heard; Gojo and Geto had such loving smiles on their faces.

Nanami uncontrollably laughs a breathless smile as he looks down. He was blinding. Ever in awe they were; Gojo had remove his glasses, letting his bared eyes admire his friend, with Geto sliding his palm up on his mouth, tears threatening to seep from the revelation.

They were so happy.

And he still is if not even so much more. Never mind the heated situation you were both in the moment. Nanami, with his other hand from your stomach slowly went to him and up to his chest, all while he held your other and laid it upon his chest.

Your eyes opened when he does, the pound of his heart hitting against your palm, echoing against your own. When you looked at his eyes, you almost gasped—the fingers laying on his chest suddenly twitching. Every little thing, he catches.

There was a story once, that Will Eisner, the famous comic artist and literally the guy who invented the graphic novel, told, about this time he was at a party and ended up talking to, of all people, Rube Goldberg.

Now, this was before, I think, Eisner published his first, seminal work, “A Contract with God”, to critical acclaim. Comics were seen as, while not exactly just a children's medium — Wertham would make that a reality, thanks to his work — but definitely not art, or something literary.

So Eisner was there, talking about his ideas about what comics could be, about how they weren't just diversions, entertainment for children or people with low moral fibre, that they could be used to explore concepts like identity and belonging and alienation — concepts that he would later incorporate into “A Contract with God” and his Dropsie Avenue series — when Goldberg, apparently very irritated, banged the walking stick he always carried with him to the ground, and said, “That's horseshit, boy!”

“Don't forget,” he apparently thundered to Eisner. “That no matter what, we're vaudevillians!”

And the first time I heard this story, from Scott McCloud, in Reinventing Comics, I knew that McCloud told this to illustrate the skepticism that people facing new media — even those who were considered “grand dames” of the medium — have over their chosen profession on it being anything more than frivolity.

But over the years, I also realized that, I think, Goldberg had a point. Not that new media and genres couldn't express the things that Eisner had hoped they could express — Eisner conclusively proved him wrong there. But that Goldberg's outburst was a stark reminder to Eisner, and new media creators out there, of one thing: don't put on airs.

Your work can, and will, be vessels of greatness, can express truths that other, more established media and genres can, and in some cases that more established media and genres can't. But honestly, the idea that there are such things, like Art and Literature, that can be elevated to greatness and others things are frivolities and neither could ever cross? Is a load of crock, and was always a load of crock in the first place.

It's not as if Shakespeare didn't put in dirty jokes and innuendo into his works to please the crowds that watched his plays. It's not as if operas were bloody gore-fests that opera-goers flocked to, because fuck yeah, who doesn't want to see some hard-core blood and guts and fucking? It wasn't as if Hokusai was just paid to create delicate works of art — sometimes they paid him money to make smut too, and boy, that's some kind of smut. It wasn't as if Mozart didn't write ditties that talked about how he would fart at your nose so that you could inhale the fart, for fun. Sappho didn't write poems just because she was making Art, she wrote that shit because there was a cute girl she wanted to fuck, and GODDAMN, it's fucking her up.
