James Sunderland Headcanons/Analysis! (SFW) Stuff about his job, dad, music, tidbits
Tumblr media
These are based on Remake James! It's a little easier to come up with headcanons for remake James, since he's a bit more expressive here than the OG. Job:
James is an office clerk (this is confirmed canon), which means he has a job revolving around paying attention to detail. He keeps track of financial records, transactions, orders, supplies, and various other things that an office needs to run smoothly. He's messy, but he's good at his job and has a careful eye for detail. It makes sense for him since he's able to notice small things in Silent Hill that help him progress.
James is well-versed in using office software and spreadsheets, and sometimes is tasked with doing minor trouble-shooting for coworkers. James has an ongoing battle with a faulty office printer.
James prefers this kind of work, even if it doesn't exactly fill him with joy. He's definitely an introvert, but doesn't mind helping others if needed.
James does NOT participate in casual Friday. He always wears his button-down shirt and tie. Prefers not to get too casual about work; he likes to keep those spheres separate. Dad:
James sold his car to help with medical bills that weren't covered by his insurance. His father gave him his old 1977 Pontiac Ventura for free. It's the car his dad drove when he was growing up.
The car barely ran and James taught himself how to fix it. It was his only distraction from Mary's illness.
James has a strained relationship with his father, because he's just super weird. He's caught his dad saying and doing strange things, for instance, holding the box with Walter Sullivan's umbilical cord and just staring at it. One night, James came home from hanging out with his friends, and saw his dad in the kitchen, holding up a knife and staring at the wall as if in a trance. James was freaked out and decided to just come back home in the morning.
This might be dumb and random but I feel like Frank Sunderland doesn't have the best hygiene and his apartment smells. James is probably used to gross stuff. He doesn't like it, but he can deal with it.
James's mom left because she couldn't handle being around Frank anymore. James ended up growing up through his teen years with just his dad. Music:
James strikes me as the kind of guy who listens to The Police, Hall & Oates, maybe REM. Enjoys music with prominent bass lines. He probably listens mainly to hits from different bands as well.
Tends to prefer light rock. Metal isn't really his thing.
James's guilty pleasures are Duran Duran and Cocteau Twins.
I have his shuffle here!:
Tidbits:
James doesn't seem to laugh much, but he does have a sense of humor somewhere in there. Usually it's pretty dry and sarcastic. He appreciates observational humor.
Mary was fond of puns. He always pretended to hate them and roll his eyes, but would end up smiling or chuckling anyway.
James isn't much of a sweets guy, but his favorite ice cream flavor is vanilla. His favorite soda is Coke. He liked Coke floats as a kid. Favorite dessert is apple pie.
Drinks his coffee black.
Tried to tend to Mary's garden when she was sick, but he was overwhelmed by it and being unable to regrow the plants just made him feel worse. He didn't have her green thumb.

Maybe it isn't that I actually hate medical professionals? They just suck and are weird sometimes, and a lot of them shouldn't be practicing, but I don't hate them as a group, like, personally.
What I hate is their ability to make my life harder in ways that are often completely opaque to me, and a lot of the crap things they do are not really possible to challenge. And I hate the fact that holding them responsible fort dogshit behavior in any way that will actually benefit me is almost always impossible.
And I also hate the fact that they have to do stupid things sometimes because that's how the system is set up, and those things sometimes mean patients actually get harmed. They aren't fond of that part either! They don't want the system to be the way it is! But they don't have a choice, so sometimes people like me get forced by bureaucracy into doing things that are re-traumatizing. And I can't imagine that feels good for them at all, knowing that their patients are sometimes only "consenting" because that bureaucracy will not let them be helped in any other way. Which isn't consent at all. I imagine that must be pretty traumatizing for them, too, sometimes.
If it were easier to actually access medical care without tremendous delays in this country right now I would have much less trouble finding providers who are good at what they do and are not horrible people, and who have clinic staff who can do their fucking job.
Oh and I also don't appreciate how evasive and unwilling to commit they are out of fear of being held to an answer that turns out to be inaccurate, but I can't make an informed decision about my own care unless they give me at least some information about probabilities and trajectories and typicalities. Genuinely, how the fuck am I supposed to navigate that shit. I get that some patients are really fucking difficult, but I should be able to get a special stamp on my file or something that says I understand that sometimes medicine isn't an exact science and the best answers that my doctors can give may not always prove to be accurate in the long term. I know they don't like being in that situation either.
A lot of medical professionals are fucking assholes, and unfortunately the ones who are not are still hamstrung by a system set up to actively prevent people from getting care.
I miss my old doctor. He gave no shits about anything that wasn't the patient. He prescribed scheduled meds based on what the patient needed and not based on fear of consequences potentially being imposed on him by the punitive patient-hostile drugs-are-bad moral panic machine developed to force suffering people into buying more dangerous drugs off the street in order to prevent far fewer people from maybe getting high off of drugs that at least weren't laced with lethal substances. (The purpose of a system is what it does.) Did he get sanctioned and become locally unhireable? Unfortunately yes he did. Does he now provide concierge care to rich people? Yes he does. He found a way to make it work, God bless him.
Everything about the medical system in this country is fucked. Hospitals, doctors, nurses, pharmacies, pharmacists, pharmacy techs, phlebotomists, clinic administrative staff, insurance companies, medical schools and schooling, licensing boards, drug advertising to both providers and patients, pharmaceutical reps, researchers, research, publishing, medical trials, pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers and distributors, medical equipment, charting software, billing and billing codes, diagnostic criteria, charity and low income services, accessible transportation, home care, the lack of independent individual patient advocates, dietitians and nutritionists, access to physical and occupational therapy and physical and occupational therapists, the massive bigotry of every kind rampant in every corner of the medical field, social work, senior care and assisted living, deprioritization of informed consent and harm reduction, disability applications, inaccessibility of medical records, especially psychiatric notes which are specifically allowed to be withheld from patients, lack of continuity of care for disadvantaged people, care that is equitably accessible to disabled people, telemedicine, patient portals, phone systems, clinic hours, every single aspect of inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, facility security, all sorts of things going on with therapists who are nevertheless probably the least malicious group of people in this entire charade, aaaaaand patients themselves.
Also hospital toilets that are too tall and make it literally physically impossible for me to poop while I'm there waiting for somebody to come out of surgery. I just needed to take a crap, guys. You didn't need to make the toilets so tall that my feet didn't even touch the floor. It is very clean but there is no shitting for short people at St Francis.

Voicemail
Tumblr media
Day 6 prompt (600 words) for 10 days to 1K: Voicemail
Fandom: The Pitt
Characters: Dr. Robby-mentioned, Maya Bennett (OC)
Maya had been drifting off when her phone started buzzing, the vibration against the desk startling her and garnering the attention of everyone in Professor Church’s lecture. She hadn’t been paying the slightest bit of attention, but all eyes were on her as she scrambled to send the call to voicemail, her heart rate spiking as she noted the name on the screen.
“Sorry!” Maya offered, heat blooming in her cheeks as her professor resumed his lecture. Her classmates’s attention followed, allowing Maya to focus on the voice to text transcription of Robby’s voicemail. By the end of the message, a heavy rock of dread had dropped in Maya’s stomach.
She thought that odd considering she’d spent half the day filled with dread. For a few hours now, Maya had expected a call from the man she thought of as a father, ever since she’d accidentally answered Jake’s facetime, giving him an unintended view of the bruises she’d spent the last four days hiding.
Maya had been so careful—avoiding Robby or Jake or anyone who worked with her dad in the Pitt since Sunday. She had presented herself as exceedingly busy between work and school, easily explaining away the uncharacteristic delays in answering texts and calls.
But she hadn’t been busy with work or school—in fact, Maya hadn’t left the house in days. She’d spent most of her time sleeping and what little time she spent awake, she’d used to manage her absences and keep up appearances. Looking at her phone or laptop for too long made her headache and nausea worse, so mostly, Maya had spent the last few days napping and just getting by.
Thankfully, the nausea had dissipated this morning, only for her call with Jake to make her want to throw up all over again. For the first time in ages, bribery hadn’t been enough to sway her pseudo-brother from tattling.
Maya was actually surprised it had taken this long for Robby’s call to come—she’d talked with Jake just before noon when her roommate had come home on lunch break to help make Maya presentable, covering the bruising with a heavy layer of expertly applied makeup. Either Jake had waited a bit to tell Robby or her dad was having a hell of a day and he was just getting to her now.
She hoped it was the first one.
Robby didn’t usually order Maya around, especially now that she was an adult. She was in grad school. She worked. She’d moved out. She paid most of her own bills, and though she sometimes only took care of “adulty” stuff because Robby gave her firm-ish reminders, she generally managed things on her own.
But as Maya reviewed the transcription again, her imagination delivering the words in Robby’s voice, complete with the assumed tone and pauses and all the little sounds the transcription software didn’t catch, she determined it was very clearly an order and he was very clearly unhappy.
More dread settled in her then which seemed impossible considering how much she already carried. Maya had been considering skipping her last class and heading home for the day, but the voicemail gave her pause. Maya knew she’d have to face Robby eventually, but she needed time to collect herself first. And she wanted to call Jake—to yell at him and to do recon. Even though she could imagine how mad Robby was in general, it was better to know how Jake’s conversation had gone. She needed to know a little more than Robby’s message:
I spoke with Jake. Come to the Pitt when you get this.

December 2024 🫶 for Cancer
Preshuffle: A King of Pentacles is unbothered with issues surrounding the home or relationship, they’ve “got this”, and I’m hearing it’s okay to calm down. Whenever you get 🤯, this feels like advice.
Meditation: Weirdest one in awhile 💯 You were prancing about in the yard of a house, there was an in-ground pool, it felt like summer, you had on a big floppy hat and sunglasses. Or not you, idk, it was a blonde woman. She had kind of a pretentious, “new money” way about her, and evvvverything around her was solar paneled, that’s the weirdness. She was bragging about this and selling everyone else on it too. I mean everything, the house, areas all over the ground, there was a whole garden area and decorations, the pool was surrounded, I’m not sure what these all were for exactly but they were everywhere. I’m lost to the meaning of this. Cost effective? Soaking up the sun? Electricity issues? Bad connections/wires or something idk, you’d know. Maybe you really really like solar panels ☀️ She was made of money, maybe that’s a suggestion for a Cancer out there, your electric bill is killing you?
General: 2 Swords ⚔️
Love: The Star rev
Work: Wheel of Fortune rev
Someone could be losing a job, and money issues would be describing the 🤯 energy from you…not sure if it’s you or someone else, someone you care about, a partner or coworker either one. Wheel of Fortune rev feels like bad fortune, or can be disciplinary measures, consequences for actions, “bad karma”, something like that…not feeling karma though. Bad timing maybe. Or, okay, it’s karmic but only specifically how you would be seeing this, not because it’s actually something karmic in your chart - but if the shoe fits, right? That’s the vibe with this, it’s like YOU believe this is karmic, and maybe it is, but more for you than anyone else or it’s unconscious somehow.
So for work I see major changes and upgrades…I’m not sure if they’re letting a bunch of people go, could be, maybe a whole software system, maybe the location they’ve been operating out of or the entire rules of operation y’all have been working from. Like here’s the rule book, well, they just wrote a new rule book with all new systems, now throw it away. But it’s all you know. You’re emotionally connected to whatever is being left behind work wise, like you personally identify with THIS mode of operation - not the new AI version. It’s like because your job is using something other than pick-a-thing, you’re personally triggered like it’s an attack on your character - and maybe you’re the pick-a-thing person, it would make sense why you feel this way. A new way of doing things is triggering you big time, you feel like the changes being made are drastic, extreme, and largely unnecessary, but there’s nothing you can do or you don’t know what you could even do about it.
Similar energy for love, whether in a relationship or not, there is a situation where you have to face a “conventional” way of doing things where you’re more like…sup? 😅 NOT conventional. Baggy shorts at church, rolling in late to the holiday dinner, not doing some traditional thing everyone else does. It’s like you don’t see you’re the outcast or black sheep here - or you definitely do, but that’s their problem 💯 Could be with your person’s family, or your own, flip it however. Maybe you’re dating the village weirdo and your Dad is a pastor it’s just…gonna be fine 🧡 The Star rev shows no healing taking place, if someone is a stick in the mud then they just are, or kinda crazy and irresponsible. It could really get you down, trying to fit in, you could have moments of pessimism or even depression because it weighs on you…why is xyz like this? Could definitely be a parent.
What you’re doing is pulling your head up, getting cute, showing up, and enduring. Maybe dropping a hint or two, making attempts to plant some more open-minded or future focused seeds for people to see or understand. Solar panels 💯 Politics could be messy at your house, or with someone you’re dating/with. Feels more like someone’s family, maybe where they come from - if this is new. Jupiter Aries shows an independent spirit is good for you, stay true to yourself regardless of anyone’s expectations or “rules”. Capricorn vs Aries here, opposing/squaring you, you could be dealing with these signs. Scorpio is heavy too. Your energy is light, happy, chatty, intuitive, you can see that bs from a mile away but HOW ABOUT THESE BISCUITS MA? Delicious. *chef’s kiss* And you’ll do fine 🧡 2 Swords is showing to just ignore it as best you can and enjoy the date, gathering, or event. You could end up deciding someone isn’t for you romantically, after a convention vs. independence battle of some kind, maybe a discussion - doesn’t even have to be with you, you could hear them being narrow-minded af from the bathroom, but you’ll be nice anyway.
If it’s money/job issues that has you down, then you’re judging yourself based on past holidays or situations where you were in a different spot - Spirit is saying to get creative and use your social abilities to really get to people. Emotionally. Make them cry 😌 Because it’s sweet not sour obv. but do you 😆For someone, there’s an unconventional person that likes a person in a suit, or switch that. There’s no hope this will take off but something about them hits different, you just know…something. 2 Swords shows ignoring it. Or? Ask them out 🤷‍♀️ Worst they can say is no. Or if you’re meeting someone’s family and feeling like…jeez they own Google they’re going to hate me - I see you being wrong and it all turns out just fine. Hang in there.
You come into December with:
Saint Apricot 😇
“I’m sorry that I have to take care of myself.”
Saint Apricot comes to you when you have been (or are about to be) freed from a situation that has you chained. This is a lesson in taking care of yourself. It’s a reminder to not give away more than you can, or it will drain you. We are not giving from a place of love if we are giving only to get. People may not like it when we focus on taking care of ourselves, but it is necessary in order to have a truthful relationship with them. If you speak the truth from your heart, then any guilt you feel is from the fear of being disliked. Feelings of shame come up when we feel we are “bad”, guilt comes up when we feel something we’ve done is “bad”. If another person no longer chooses to be in our lives, due to what’s been said or done in total honesty, it’s not our fault, it is their choice. This signifies a turn in your destiny. You are moving in a new direction towards freedom, and this opens the gateway towards more rewarding relationships in life.
You leave December having learned:
Final Sunset 🌅 :
“A life has come to its spectacular conclusion.”
This is a reminder to cherish all of the beauty in your life, including endings. Spirit embraces you and the loss you are aware of at this time. When we watch a day’s sunset, we can recognize the beauty of an ending. All things have a completion, even life. This is the end of a long journey. It is a time to reflect on your part of history, and discover what you value most. This could be a long emotional road ending, or simply a project at work that took a lot of effort and time. Too often we look to what is “next”, and miss the spectacular beauty of the finale. Do not fear the completion. Stay in the now, cry, laugh, reflect. Be with the fullness of your experience.
Orange may be a lucky color 🧡
Compatibility for December:
10 Pentacles rev could show divorce, unemployment, deep rooted issues surrounding stability or lack, in you or others. These could be coworkers, family members, or people around you going through hell - or they know you have been either/or.
Aries - failure to give to the situation, maybe they’re not into gifts or gift-giving, won’t be around or they’re just busy - not coming
Taurus - has a lot of love for you, reflects your energy back at you so they get you on a deep level, but they feel this won’t go anywhere
Gemini - over the sadness of you leaving, but they’re still very bitter towards you /switch
Cancer - could be losing their shit at you 🤬
Leo - could randomly pop up with something fun to do, I’m seeing sports ⚽️ events, and if they’re flirting it’s because they like you
Virgo - one person gives way more to this than the other one, it’s unfair and imbalanced
Libra - sees that you’re not going to cooperate with them or maybe never have - it’s like a wake up call to them /switch
Scorpio - super excited for a new thing that doesn’t go anywhere or they don’t try to make it go anywhere…they’re just venting fun ideas
Sagittarius - not committed, but cares, but isn’t serious, but feels things, so…a headache
Capricorn - not fighting for something, doesn’t care
Aquarius - has a dream and only that will do - I don’t think it’s shown up yet because 4 Cups is kinda pissy and dissatisfied - not choosing you? Or mad you didn’t choose them. Or your/their idea. Or something stupid like they’re supposed to make the pies and make flan instead - flan is disgusting idc
Pisces - not communicating on purpose, they’re up to something that could bring down whole Towers if other people knew about it 👀 shaaade

Finding Resolve
We’ve all done it. We are all part of this new phenomenon, something that barely existed before this century, and only truly gained momentum in the last decade. The worst part is, most of us have forgotten exactly how much we are involved with it, because it is hard to remember what and how much these phenomena cost.
I am talking about the subscription economy, that magical place where software and streaming services are the product, and our monthly bill is usually on autopay. It ranges from SOAS (Software As A Service) providers like Adobe and Microsoft, to all the music, movies, and more that we stream into our homes, cars, and mobile devices.
And it is eating us alive. How many subscriptions do you have? Let’s start with your vehicle. Do you have satellite radio? That’s one. Do you subscribe to cloud-based software? That can be one or more. What about streaming tunes like Spotify or Apple Music? There you guy. The list is getting longer.
And then there are all the streaming TV choices, which runs from services like YouTube TV to Netflix, Paramount+, Apple TV+, Peacock, Max, Hulu, Disney…I could go on. You may have cut the cable at home, but you tethered yourself in other ways to the extent that the net effect is little different.
Tumblr media
Then there’s the gaming community, if that’s your thing. More dinero. Maybe you fell for the premium version of an app, like Accuweather. If you’re a regular Amazon shopper, you no doubt have Prime, which costs $139 a year, plus the vitamins and supplements I receive every month from them. Like listening to books? There’s Audible. Old newspapers? There’s Newspapers.com, one of my favorite sites to do research. Cloud storage? Good Lord, I have several, for my thousands of photos and documents.
So successful has the subscription model been that paywalls have appeared everywhere online, like the New York Times, Washington Post, and Atlantic Monthly, each of whom have amazing content, a feast for my eyes and brain. Alas, I have drawn the line, because I sense it has long spun out control. And if CNN goes ahead and paywalls its app and site, I guess I won’t be reading them anymore.
Because I, like many people, have subscription fatigue. I simply cannot begin to consume all of this media. Sadly, I cannot remember all of the services to which I subscribe, and if you aren’t there yet, I bet you will be soon enough. The only way to know for sure is to carefully track your credit card statements to look for monthly billing.
That, of course, is the problem, because we willingly provided our billing data so that we do not have to do this every month. As long as that credit card is valid, those providers will keep hitting your card every month. It is only when your card is about to expire that you get a notification. And if you were not careful and instead provided a bank routing and account number, they can keep sticking their hand into your pocket as long as you have that account.
Ironically, there are new subscription management software sites and apps that supposedly make it easy to track and opt-out of all the things, but they are subscription services themselves. That’s like replacing one drug with another. You’re still on the hook.
It all starts so easily, because many of the subscription services are technically just micro payments, only $5 or $10. We see that as pocket change. Other services offer annual payment options, which provide a slight discount for paying in full in advance. But many of the once-cheap micro payments have started to get expensive, like Netflix and Spotify (I am speaking from experience). They are no longer minor indulgences.
Were these tangible products we had to buy in a store, I bet we would all be a lot more careful. The friction of having to be somewhere to even just tap your credit card would probably be enough to cause us to think. But it is simply too easy in the digital world to keep subscribing, because once we get in that loop, there is never any friction.
We are all going to have to muster a lot more resolve to win this fight, as well as start keeping meticulous records. Otherwise, these things develop lives of their own, lives that will continue hitting credit cards even after our own lives are over. I’m pretty sure none of us will be consuming anything at that point, and there’s no use paying for it.
We don’t have to wait for New Years Day to make this resolution.

Revolutionizing Healthcare: The Role of Cloud Computing in Modern Healthcare Technologies
In today’s digital era, cloud computing is transforming industries, and healthcare is no exception. The integration of cloud computing healthcare technologies is reshaping patient care, medical research, and healthcare management. Let’s explore how cloud computing is revolutionizing healthcare and the benefits it brings.
Tumblr media
What is Cloud Computing in Healthcare?
Cloud computing in healthcare refers to the use of remote servers to store, manage, and process healthcare data, rather than relying on local servers or personal computers. This technology allows healthcare organizations to access vast amounts of data, collaborate with other institutions, and scale operations seamlessly.
Download PDF Brochure
Key Benefits of Cloud Computing in Healthcare
Enhanced Data Storage and Accessibility Cloud technology allows healthcare providers to store massive volumes of patient data, including medical records, images, and test results, securely. Clinicians can access this data from anywhere, ensuring that patient information is available for timely decision-making.
Improved Collaboration Cloud-based healthcare platforms enable easy sharing of patient data between healthcare providers, specialists, and labs. This facilitates better collaboration and more accurate diagnoses and treatment plans, especially in multi-disciplinary cases.
Cost Efficiency The cloud reduces the need for expensive hardware, software, and in-house IT teams. Healthcare providers only pay for the resources they use, making it a cost-effective solution. Additionally, the scalability of cloud systems ensures they can grow as healthcare organizations expand.
Better Data Security Protecting sensitive patient information is critical in healthcare. Cloud computing providers invest heavily in data security measures such as encryption, multi-factor authentication, and regular audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards like HIPAA.
Telemedicine and Remote Patient Monitoring Cloud computing powers telemedicine platforms, allowing patients to consult with doctors virtually, from the comfort of their homes. It also enables remote patient monitoring, where doctors can track patients' health metrics in real time, improving outcomes for chronic conditions.
Advanced Data Analytics The cloud supports the integration of advanced data analytics tools, including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), which can analyze large datasets to predict health trends, track disease outbreaks, and personalize treatment plans based on individual patient data.
Use Cases of Cloud Computing in Healthcare
Electronic Health Records (EHRs): Cloud-based EHRs allow healthcare providers to access and update patient records instantly, improving the quality of care.
Genomics and Precision Medicine: Cloud computing accelerates the processing of large datasets in genomics, supporting research and development in personalized medicine.
Hospital Information Systems (HIS): Cloud-powered HIS streamline hospital operations, from patient admissions to billing, improving efficiency.
Challenges in Cloud Computing for Healthcare
Despite its numerous benefits, there are challenges to implementing cloud computing in healthcare. These include:
Data Privacy Concerns: Although cloud providers offer robust security measures, healthcare organizations must ensure their systems are compliant with local and international regulations.
Integration with Legacy Systems: Many healthcare institutions still rely on outdated technology, making it challenging to integrate cloud solutions smoothly.
Staff Training: Healthcare professionals need adequate training to use cloud-based systems effectively.

Of course, America was generating a new economy, but it was far different from what Silicon Valley and its White House cheerleaders had imagined. Wal-Mart and McDonald’s, Amazon and FedEx, Marriott and HCA Healthcare, all were giant growth companies. Software engineers and computer support specialists were among the fastest-growing occupations, but when it came to sheer numbers, occupational growth was still concentrated in low-wage, low-skill jobs in retail trade, food preparation and restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes and home health care, janitorial services, and offices. These jobs were often structured and supervised by a new digital infrastructure—call center and warehouse work were prime examples—but they were hardly of the sort envisioned by “new economy” enthusiasts. Indeed, that phrase faded in the new millennium, replaced by descriptors of a far darker character: “the gig economy,” “surveillance capitalism,” and “the fissured workplace.” Of course, none of this lessened the impact of high-technology companies on American politics and discourse. Silicon Valley’s determination to “change the world” had been backstopped by a tenfold increase in the amount of money Democrats raised from that sector between the 1994 and 2000 election cycles.

Thank you so much for the link! (If there was more than the first 4 entries in the main post I couldn't read them because twitter is a hellscape I refuse to make an account to use for the sake of my sanity). But!!!!!!!! But that was more than enough HOLY SHIT. Like I know you mentioned Empty Box, but that was like the one song I don't have any misgivings about after hearing it on its own because it is the one that fits absolutely perfectly, (heart-breakingly,) with how I suspected the lore might go after they returned home to their own universe having been dragged through one side of the wringer and out the other. And! It! Does! That song plays my poor heart like a fiddle.
But for me I actually have the most misgivings about Blind and Shaboom. Because you can't just shout "open your eyes" and "wake up" on album after album and have that be one of your rallying cries and then put out a song called "Blind" and not have it light up a hundred giant neon warning signs in my brain. And then I read the lyrics while listening to it at work today and I was even more unsure about it because the cognitive dissonance between it and every other song they have that you could vaguely put in the 'love song' category, (where the reason they care about the subject of the song is because of who the subject is as a person, or who they are together or as a team,) just being dazzled and blindly following "someone" could not possibly seem more off to me. But hooooooooooly their context does not fail me. Because if the Queen of the Night they're chasing in the song is THEIR DREAMS that changes EVERYTHING.
If 'love is blind' WHEN YOU'RE FOLLOWING YOUR SOUL'S PASSION ajsfkajhga. My opinion: heel turn, 180.
(as someone who went through hell to get a degree in fine art drawing because art used to be the one thing I loved above all else, graduated, then needed to pay those adult bills, got a job in software tech, and then a case of burnout, and haven't drawn shit in the last 10+ years since because I spend every day exhausted from crunching numbers and variables uhhhh)
Shaboom, at face value as a 'party, get drunk, get laid' song? Me sending Extremely Skeptical Face in its direction because it just seems so vapid. You know, like settling for a life that pays your bills and puts a roof over your head while your dreams fall farther and farther away for the sake of practicality and you make some pretty dubious choices in trying to avoid having to address the soullessness of reality. ha ha ha
Oh. Oh. This one is coming for my throat, isn't it? I might need that three weeks until my copy of the album shows up to just prepare for the reading rest of it.
Like I expected them to come for me, but not PERSONALLY. fuck
RIGHT??? RIGHT?! IT HURTS, IT HURTS, IT HURTS, KIM HONGJOONG I'M FUCKING COMING FOR YOU!
this link might work for the other 4 entries?
shaboom has BIG mingi's story vibes and GOD. GOD. THEY KILL IT EVERY FUCKING TIME MAN. they way that they're realizing that while some of them achieved their dreams they aren't any more happy than they were before because they don't have each other!
it had me absolutely sobbing when i realized what happened because my god, that really is what happens as you get older and it hurts so much to see it spelled out so blatantly. the commentary on all the different stages of life and growth and maturing, i can't fucking do this man

[NovFut] Rowan Reyes Intro WIP
Tumblr media
introduction to the main character of Nova Futurum. more information will be added over time.
Tumblr media
Basics //
Rowan Reyes is 22 years old and is a masculine presenting non-binary person who uses they/them pronouns. They work as an apprentice within a cybernetic repair shop within the heart of Nova Futurum, which allows them to utilize their skills in technology in hacking/cracking without getting caught. They also are fiercely loyal to their friends and would do quite a bit for them. Rowan and their dad have a strained relationship, due to their dad being often absent in their childhood. Thanks to their cybernetic implants, their strength and physical abilities are enhanced and allow for covert operations.
Punk Life: Rowan goes by GH0$T when they're traversing the underground. They often travel with their gang of punks, who they have grown up with and are all vey close to each other. GH0$T didn't like hurting innocent people, but they had no qualms about stealing from the rich and powerful, often operating with a lot of a lack of self-preservation in order to save the operations.
Appearance: They are white with slightly tanned skin. They have short tousled blue hair that reaches their eyebrows, occasionally styled up in spikes. Due to their gymnastic style of traveling routes, they are lean with a slight build at around 5 feet 8 inches (173cm). They have a tattoo on their torso, along with having various cybernetic implants along their body. Their left arm from mid-bicep down was lost during a car accident when they were small. Thanks to the abundance of cybernetic implants and prosthetics in the market, they were able to get their arm prosthetic shortly after.
Tumblr media
History //
Birth Story: Rowan's parents had a one-night stand and only stayed in contact once in a while through social media. A year or two after Rowan was born, their mother dumped them onto their father's doorstep. Their father has taken care of them ever since. They have never seen their mother after then, which is also when she blocked them on social media and (presumably) moved
Growing Up: Rowan and their dad lived in the slums of Nova Futurum, in a small apartment. The Reyes family struggled to pay the bills which caused their dad to take several jobs, working long hours. Rowan often was left alone as a child, in-between coming home from government mandated schooling until their dad came back around 21:00 after his work ended. Occasionally they hung out with their neighbors and the other close residents's children but they also spent long hours teaching themselves how to code and to crack into mainframes and databases.
Teenage Life, the Beginning of Rebellion: After the government released their mandated AI software that was required by law to be used by all citizens, Rowan learned a way to crack the ai and use it for their own purposes, not for government approved. When their neighborhood friends heard about this, they wanted Rowan to adjust their ai's too. Soon enough, Rowan had a side-business running while they were a teenager. They worked with their friends, who self classify as punks now, to promote their business and to expose the government. When not working or going to school, Rowan and the punks explored Nova Futurum. They wanted to know what the city was like and got to see first-hand what horrors the government covers up.

Relationships // (wip)
Father - While not always physically there, Rowan and their dad always have each other's backs. He doesn't always approve of Rowan's lifestyle but agrees that the government has gone way too far. He does his best to support his kid in any way that he can, without getting caught.
Henry - Rowan and Henry met while Rowan was on a exploratory run around Nova Futurum. Rowan pissed off a cop and led a long chase to shake off the cop and ran right into the bar Henry works at. They both were surprised to see each other, Rowan because they didn't expect anyone to working that late in the night, and Henry because of Rowan's sprint inside the bar. Rowan hid out in the bar and chatted with Henry in the meantime. They became good friends with Rowan and the punks declaring the bar as one of their homebases. [MORE]

I can give insight into this about Nursing Homes!
Nursing Care is fucking expensive. In my experience 50% of your outgoings are wages. But you're not just paying for a single carer; you're paying a team of them. At a ratio of five patients to one staff member for dementia care and ten patients to one for residential care, you need to keep a minimum number of staff on for safety, and dependency levels can mean you require more staff than that. But those staff also don't work 24 hours a day, so there's shifts. Day shift, Night shift, some places have Twilight shifts. Night shift is typically staffed at a lower ratio than day shift, but in general, take the number of staff you think you need to run a day, and then triple it. That's how many care staff you have to hire to maintain minimum staffing levels across the week. And those people get sick, or have kids that get sick, and take leave like normal people too. And if you get infections in the home, like Norovirus? Most of your staff are going to go off with that too, and they're not allowed to come back to work until they're 48 hours clear of their last symptoms, so you also need to account for overtime rates, bank staff, or agency. Agencies charge an average of double the pay of a contracted staff member, often more, and they give the staff member they actually send to you much less.
But then there's also your domestic staff, who do the cleaning. Some places expect the care staff to run the laundry as well, but larger homes will need dedicated laundry staff just to get through the sheer amount of it. And then there are your cooks. Building maintenance. Management. Administrators. Activities coordinators. Volunteers coordinators.
A lot more goes into running a care home than you actually see.
And then there are your bills. If you don't own the building outright? There's mortgage, or rent payments to cover. Water, gas, electricity, these bills in communal homes are gigantic, even with the discounts homes get. You need a contract with a supplier for food, and it's not possible to just get anything. You need to have a menu with different options each day, covering a minimum of three meals a day. You need to provide drinks. You need to have options available for specialised diets, weight loss, weight gain, low sodium, coeliac, modified texture, allergies. A care home kitchen faces all the issues a restaurant does, and then some.
And don't forget your crockery, knives, forks, spoons, cups, glasses. If they get broken, you need to buy more because you need to have enough to be serving off. And often you will need specialised ones for disability aid; specialised cups, cutlery, plates with raised edges, or with coloured borders, and these things are far more expensive than you might think. You also need to replace curtains and carpets and soft furnishings on a semi-regular basis otherwise they both look and smell bad, and you are a business, you need to be able to entice people in. Your staff need to be in uniform, you need to provide PPE.
And care homes are also expected to provide electronic hospital beds. They need a system for clocking in, payroll, record keeping, accident reporting, death and illness reporting, account management. They have software packages and the hardware associated with them coming out the wazoo, and contracts with people to give tech support or physically maintain them.
And they need to keep their staff trained. It's a high turnover industry, so you're constantly training new staff and getting them on courses for minimum qualification to do their job. Which means you're either paying for someone to attend courses to enable them to train other staff, or you're hiring someone to come in, or you're sending staff off on training. And in the meantime you still have to cover that person's post on the floor. And existing staff need to refresh their training on a regular basis too.
And with all of this, you don't get to have less staff, or less training, or buy less food if you've got one or two empty beds. But those empty beds can represent thousands a week in income. So you've also got to advertise, and get new people in the door, and be on top of appearances at all times.
The margins on a care home are surprisingly small. Running at eighty percent occupancy had mine just barely covering its bills. And we owned our building.
Which is why you see disreputable care homes skimping out on a lot of this stuff. They smell bad. They're understaffed. The chairs look dirty. They're understaffed. The food is some disgusting microwaved slop. They're understaffed.
Understaffing is the easiest way to save money. Paying staff more? Where is that money going to come from?
The sad fact is that care is expensive to provide, and because there is an insufficient to non-existent social care network supported and funded by government at any and all levels, the cost of it falls to the individuals and their families. We had a certain number of bursary beds, meaning people whose place was funded by the local council and paid nothing in addition - our fees were several hundred pounds a week higher than the council would pay.
It's wrong. It's wrong that we took money from people who had worked so hard all their lives to pay for their care because they had the misfortune of needing it. A dementia diagnosis. A stroke. Crippling arthritis. Cancer. Luck of the draw meant some people losing everything, and the people in my home were people I'd have considered well off. Middle class, even. If you didn't have assets to sell, or liquid savings, your only hope of getting into my home was a bursary bed being available.
And my staff were chronically underpaid for everything they did. When laundry weren't in? My care staff did that job. When domestic staff were off sick? My care staff were pushing vacuum cleaners around rooms. Activities coordinator wasn't here today? My care staff were pulling together to keep the people in our care entertained. And similarly, when I didn't have enough care staff because people were sick, my laundry and domestic staff downed their tools and came to help make sure our people were safe, and watered, and fed.
My staff deserved more. Absolutely. But the amount we were charging the vulnerable and needy was enough to turn my stomach. I saw more than one person fall below the savings threshold in their time with us. People had worked their whole lives to save a comfortable amount for their retirement, and due to one bit of bad luck with their health, it was gone. Within five years they were wiped out.
Not one of my staff could have afforded to have a family member in the home they worked in, or one equivalent. The only person that could was our manager. But our margins as a business were that narrow that covid destroyed us. My staff burned out, I left for bigger and better things, and the home was sold because it was no longer profitable.
So yeah, capitalism is the problem. I'm not saying any of this to excuse the way things are, I'm just saying this is why they're like this. Because care provision is not a very profitable industry.
And because there's a perception that care staff are ten a penny, and that if you lose one it doesn't matter because there's ten more lining up at the door for their job. That's never been true, no matter how many times my manager used to say it, and covid sure as shit put an end to that idea.
Care work is classed as unskilled work. You don't need to go to college to do it; you can train on the job. So it's chronically undervalued.
But unfortunately the solution isn't as easy as just paying staff more because all of those other things still need paying. Dividing up the profit income from a full home amongst the staff doesn't result in a huge pay rise for them because there's so many of them, but it does cut into your slush fund for when disasters happen like, for example, covid. And unlike in any other industry, if you go bankrupt, that's dozens of sick and vulnerable people that need to find somewhere else to live in a hurry. Moving care homes can reduce the lifespan of somebody in care, because they go from a place where they're familiar, and comfortable, and staff know them and their history and needs, to a blank slate. It often means changing doctor. The continuity of the care gets broken. And that has real and serious consequences for a person's wellbeing.
tl;dr Care is expensive because it's expensive to provide. The solution is well funded holistic social care. And valuing the staff that provide it more than we currently do.

Blinkit Franchise Cost: Unlocking Opportunities in Quick Commerce
With digital convenience becoming a way of life, India’s quick commerce sector is growing at lightning speed—and Blinkit is leading the charge. Delivering groceries and essentials in under 15 minutes, Blinkit has built a loyal customer base across metro cities. For those eyeing a tech-enabled business with strong returns, understanding the Blinkit franchise cost and operational model is the first step toward becoming a Blinkit partner.
Tumblr media
What Makes Blinkit’s Model Unique?
Blinkit operates using “dark stores,” which are micro-warehouses designed to serve hyperlocal orders. These facilities are not open to walk-in customers but are optimized for stocking, picking, packing, and dispatching online orders placed via the Blinkit app.
Unlike traditional franchises, Blinkit doesn’t sell store branding for a fee. Instead, it forms strategic partnerships with local entrepreneurs who manage these dark stores while Blinkit handles order generation, technology, and delivery logistics. This hybrid model makes it easier for partners to focus on inventory and operations without worrying about marketing or customer acquisition.
What is the Blinkit Franchise Cost?
Though Blinkit calls its partners “store owners,” the setup resembles a franchise in its investment structure and revenue-sharing format. The Blinkit franchise cost depends on various factors such as store location, inventory size, and operational readiness. A typical cost breakdown includes:
Store Setup Costs: ₹8–₹10 lakh for racks, furniture, lighting, weighing machines, CCTV, and internet.
Product Inventory: ₹5–₹8 lakh for groceries, personal care, beverages, snacks, and home essentials.
Rent and Lease: ₹30,000 to ₹1 lakh/month depending on property size and city.
Operational Expenses: ₹1–₹1.5 lakh/month for staff wages and utility bills.
Licensing and Tech Setup: Around ₹50,000–₹1 lakh for GST, FSSAI, trade licenses, and tech integration.
The total Blinkit franchise cost usually falls in the ₹15 lakh to ₹25 lakh range.
Revenue Potential and Profit Margin
One of the reasons Blinkit is so appealing is its predictable demand flow. A well-placed Blinkit dark store can serve 4,000 to 6,000 orders monthly, with average order values between ₹250 and ₹300. Partners typically earn gross margins of 8–12% per order.
After deducting rent, salaries, and miscellaneous costs, the net profit can range from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh per month. Most partners are able to recover their initial investment in 12 to 18 months—making it a smart medium-risk, high-return business.
Why Choose the Blinkit Franchise Route?
Fast-Growing Market: Quick commerce is exploding in India.
Established Brand Trust: Customers already recognize and use Blinkit daily.
Tech-Driven Operations: Blinkit provides real-time software, dashboards, and analytics tools.
Zomato Ownership: Offers long-term financial and strategic backing.
Conclusion
The Blinkit franchise cost reflects a reasonable investment for entrepreneurs seeking to enter the booming quick-commerce space. With an efficient business model, consistent customer demand, and strong brand support, partnering with Blinkit can lead to significant and sustainable income in a short span of time.

Why learn an ecosystem that sucks tho?
For tech literacy all you need is to learn how to use Windows. They have tech classes in college you have to pass to get even a two-year. They use Windows and MS Office. Most average people and businesses use Windows with the exception of technical fields and backend services.
Trying to push FLOSS in this particular issue only makes it worse because now you are suggesting people who are tech illiterate learn something that is a niche and does not translate to most work environments at all.
FLOSSies have a hammer and to them every problem is a fucking nail. Besides that, it doesn't even help tech illiteracy because the prevailing distributions are all lowest-common denominator dumbed down nonsense anyways. Someone who doesn't understand what a directory is, is not going to install Arch or Gentoo.
The truth of the situation is, the majority of people don't care. They want something that works and has a low effort expenditure to use. That's why the walled-gardens ever managed to take off; that's why Ubuntu, Debian, etc are all install and forget and literally have curated "software centers" and have adopted the Flatpak mentality; that's why Windows won the desktop market and continues to maintain dominance in business; that's why Apple can sell you a cheap shitbox that overheats constantly for as much as a used car.
FLOSSies continue to have zero awareness and no grasp on reality outside their bubble. I'm no stranger to FLOSS either, I've run some form of linux or BSD for twenty years, and develop on both linux and Windows. Tech illiteracy in younger cohorts is not gonna be fixed by proselytising the gospel of Stallman. It's a hard filter that selects for the tech literate and enthusiasts.
What will fix it is changing the rhetoric around "high technology" that's used to push awful systems that are designed as appliances instead of tools; less latest and greatest and more computing fundamentals, less there is an app for that and more returning focus on using conventional PCs. Anyone with a reasonable grasp on literacy knows this has been the case since the microcomputing revolution; the most powerful home computers were marketed as game stations first and foremost. The late 90s is the only time that PC tech literacy saw a huge bump in the marketing blitz to sell hardware by convincing people they could become printshop masters or start a business with just their IBM PC and a few cheap software suites, or if you want to be a creative wiz go get an Amiga etc. Notice that it's the marketing rhetoric that shapes tech literacy, literally what OP was asserting to begin with.
As far as most people are concerned, the PC is for using a browser to pay bills and read emails. Everything else is "an app" they use on their phone. Or it's for playing games between school essays. FLOSS will not change that, in fact it's a hindrance when you need to interact with the rest of the world that uses Windows and Office and you like playing Sims 4 without having to go through a long process of WINE wrappers and terminal shenanigans to make it not crash.
We need to lay more blame for "Kids don't know how computers work" at the feet of the people responsible: Google.
Google set out about a decade ago to push their (relatively unpopular) chromebooks by supplying them below-cost to schools for students, explicitly marketing them as being easy to restrict to certain activities, and in the offing, kids have now grown up in walled gardens, on glorified tablets that are designed to monetize and restrict every movement to maximize profit for one of the biggest companies in the world.
Tech literacy didn't mysteriously vanish, it was fucking murdered for profit.
