1. The Car
2. The House
3.  Over the years, the house changed.  It filled with life, with laughter, with people.  Monica was first, coming and going.  She brought with her Carl, brought with her Liam, and suddenly even when she was gone it didn’t feel so empty.  Every night his brothers snored, every morning his sisters used all the hot water, and every afternoon they fought over the single TV remote before Fiona set it to Liam’s cartoons.  They took turns cooking, took turns not cleaning, and they never had to be alone.
It felt safe.  It felt vibrant.  It felt like home.
Which is why, when Ian had to leave it for a so-called group home, he knew that the place he was sent to was anything but.
He’d had to leave the house before—they all had.  A few days with a different family while Fiona tracked Frank down and got things sorted, a few nights of sleeping, still together, under a different roof until they could go back home.  That had never been too bad; even when home was gone, they still had each other.
But the group home was different.
Not just because they weren’t all together, though that was certainly part of it.  But worse was the way the building felt, the way every little thing was just this side of wrong.
It was full, but it felt empty.  Rows and rows of metal bunks with little more than a blanket each, tile floors and blank walls that made footsteps, and voices, echo.  There were no colorful rugs, no childish artwork hung with magnets and tape from every surface that could hold it.  Everything was gray, and clean, and quiet: there was no life.
He managed to claim a bunk right under Lip, close at least to the one person he’d never truly been without.  But the strictly enforced quiet of their first night made him feel farther away than ever, farther even than he had felt that first night in the house when Lip hadn’t been in his room.  When he had stared at the shadows on the floor like if he looked hard enough, his family might step out of them.
There were no shadows in the sleeping quarters—there were no windows to make them.  And thin mattresses and creaky springs kept both of them awake, so he couldn’t even hear his brother snore.
Morning was no different.  It was all at once too much and nothing at all, from the press of strange bodies in the mess hall to the meager portions of mystery casserole on each greasy tray.  He poked at his food as older boys laughed around him, the sound tinged with a bitterness that made him miss Fiona’s low chuckle, Debbie’s bright giggle, Carl’s snorts.  He even missed the cleanup, he thought as he turned his tray in at the window, peering through at the kitchen workers mechanically hosing things down.
He hated doing dishes, but he’d do it everyday if he got to pass the plates off to Fiona for drying.  If he got to fling cheap soap suds into Lip’s hair to see how long they would stick, or blow them into Liam’s chubby, grasping hands.
Even the structured schedule of the place, something Ian had thrived on in a house full of chaos and a life of making things work, felt suddenly oppressive.  Fiona had never kept tight tabs on them, but Ian always told her everything anyway—where he’d be, how long, and why.  She would ruffle his hair and kiss his cheek, tap his bag on his way out the door, and tell him to be home for dinner.
The first time he tried to tell the house warden he had plans, he was told in no uncertain terms that he didn’t.
And it wasn’t that Ian wasn’t good at taking orders.  He took orders every day in school, at work, at JROTC.  He followed them without question, and felt like he was doing the right thing.  He wasn’t like Lip, playing along until he got a chance to go his own way.  He wasn’t like Carl, walking past the rules like they didn’t exist.  Ian was good at being good, and he liked it that way.
But something about being told that he couldn’t go by the house, that he couldn’t see Fiona, that he could only work his shifts at the store with a note from Linda to officially take responsibility for him until he returned—
That, Ian wasn’t so good with.  He wasn’t good with Debbie being out there on her own, wasn’t good with Carl and Liam without Fiona’s eyes on them.  He wasn’t good with the bruises on Lip’s knuckles, or the punishments for talking back, or the note in his pocket from his commander that if he missed three more practices, he was out.
He wasn’t good with the way he’d had to say no to Mickey yesterday because he only had ten minutes until curfew.
But the group home didn’t care how Ian felt.  No one there cared that he missed his siblings, that he was worried about how they’d hold up.  No one cared that his plans for the future were slowly circling the drain.  And no one cared, not one bit, that Ian had been forced to turn down an invitation made by the boy that he thought he might—
Fuck it, Ian thought as he laid down that night in his creaky bed.  That place was no more a home than a hole in the dirt, and the people inside weren’t his family.  His family was out of reach, and no amount of being good would bring them closer.
So he’d bring someone else closer, instead.  Someone that felt a little more like part of home every time they met.
All he needed was a plan.

Rise of the Snakes - React, pt 1
Rise of the Snakes
00:13 Yo Wu, chill.  Just because you're the son of basically god you don't gotta be this dramatic.  Leave that to Garmadon, he's better at it anyway
1:05 Ayo, was that the Sacred Flute in that little cabinet Wu's meditating in front of?
1:11 That is a lot of cobwebs
1:29 Is this also a Milton Dyer game?
1:53 Excuse me did Kai's voice just come out of Cole's mouth?
2:02 So the Ninja like pepperoni and black olive pizza, apparently
4:31 How far is Jamanakai Village if it takes them this long to fly there on dragonback but Nya just walks on over in a short enough time there's still daylight during the same day when Lloyd comes back with Serpentine?
5:40 Love that the main character of this entire series was named for a pun
5:54 How common knowledge is Lloyd's existence if Cole already knew he was at Darkly's Boarding School for Bad Boys?
6:27 Why are the Serpentine treated like this ancient legen if they were only put in the tombs like forty years ago?
7:30 Love how Kai says 'muchacho' and then him speaking apparently Spanish is never brought up again
7:58 ...and that was Cole's voice coming from Kai's mouth.  They're just swapping voices today
9:06 And Kai's words from Cole's mouth again.  What communication breakdown happened between the VAs recording and the animators?
9:59 So if the Hypnobrai line with Ice, and the Constrictai line with Earth, the frick are the Venomari, Fangpyres, and Anacondrai supposed to be?
10:01 Also why are Lloyd's teeth green in this lighting?
10:33 We've seen instances where Hypnobrai hypnotism happens almost immediately, so why does literally nothing happen to Lloyd even though he's maintained eye contact with Slithraa for a good 20 seconds?
10:58 What is the aging process like for Serpentine?  Why are there always tiny snakes that match the features of the Serpentine?  Do they hatch from eggs, be little snakes for a bit, then spontaneously grow arms and legs?  Will someone please explain this?
11:29 If Nya's close to beating Kai's speed record on the training course, shouldn't she figure out Spinjitzu way sooner than whenever she actually does in the show?  Might need to fix that in mine, since Misako's shown to do Spinjitzu without having access to elemental powers.
11:59 How early into the show did Nya start working on the Samurai concept?
13:40 Kai having issues controlling his sword is because dragon = stronger elemental connection
13:50 I love the detail that the fire makes a protective/possessive circle around Kai
14:38 Knowing about Morro makes Wu's saltiness about the Green Ninja shenanigans that much more painful
15:41 To Scales's point though you snakes cannot digest large amounts of sugar
16:10 Does the spirit smoke tell the present, or the future?  Because we kinda see it doing both.  Also does this mean Wu gets high?
17:35 ...aside from the General, do they have tails?
17:52 How the frick did Nya know the antivenin was in the staff?  I get her figuring out Slithraa's the general, but were the Hypnobrai just outright stating 'the cure's in the staff, better not let the villagers get ahold of it'?
19:14 Where is Scales's rattle?  Because snake man does not have a tail at this juncture.
19:50 Nothing to see here, just polluting the water supply for the greater good
20:42 Are they foreshadowing Nya's the Samurai later this season or are they foreshadowing Nya's actually the Water Ninja four seasons from now?
Home
1:44 Why are they calling it a roof, it's a courtyard
3:43 Jay's off-and-on Brooklyn accent from early in the show is weird man
3:55 Zane's probably reminding Wu of Morro with the homeless, parentless child thing...
4:13 I'm sorry, are the dragons' reins directly affixed to their jaws?
6:13 Let the man wear his frilly pink apron in peace
7:32 Zane panting with his mouth shut, 100% robot over here
7:47 Mommy issues anyone?
9:00 I'm with Jay here, I'd want to keep the treehouse
9:30 Kai clearly attended the Jack Sparrow school of getting places
10:51 Good news for that unfortunate Hypnobrai, snakes don't really get concussed
10:32 Wilhelm Scream Counter: 1
11:00 Times Ninja have Turned Evil™:  Cole: 1
11:38 Lloyd in a Cage™ Counter: 1 Alternatively, Times a Ninja Has Been Captured: Lloyd: 1
13:32 Times the Monastery has Burned Down: 1
14:39 Priorities, Jay, yeesh
17:39 Fang Kwan Do; so painfully underutilized.
21:31 Excuse me how the frick did Lloyd find them?
Snakebit
2:45 How does giving the cabin a steambath help exactly?
3:29 How did Ed and Edna know where their son was?  This is like the morning after the monastery burned down, the frick
8:17 Why are the Fangpyres Transylvanian?  I know it's because the vampire aesthetic, but like what would the in-story reason be?  None of the other tribes seem to have accents other than maybe the Anacondra [because Pythor sounds British and I don't remember what Arcturus sounded like]
10:50 Does the bite of the Fangpyre affect other Serpentine?
11:08 Being bitten by the Fangpyres - the only time Jay and his parents shared DNA
11:24 That's rich Cole, considering you've been lying to your dad constantly for years
11:49 From this point onwards Kai, Zane, and Cole should've totally weaponized Nya as a motivational tool against Jay.  Pretty sure most of the time Nya would agree with them.
12:05 I swear Wu ripped that thermometer off the side of a building, because where else do you find one that big.  Also, considering he was walking around from behind the dragon, what kind of thermometer do you think it is?
12:11 Love the detail that the dragons are teenagers too
12:41 What's brilliant about this scene is it's impossible to tell if they were legitimately oblivious or intentionally screwing with Jay
13:23 Brilliant that Jay starts to get a slight Minnesotan accent when agitated; he's his parents' son
13:57 I repeat, can they turn Serpentine?
14:10 I know it's supposed to be creepy and snaky but all I can think of with the wrecking ball is an overripe jack-o-lantern
14:42 They each express it in different ways but I love how each of the Ninja has a protective streak a mile wide
14:52 Jay over here straight Matrix™ing the wrecking ball
15:05 Excuse me Nya was that a crotch shot there
16:12 Jay; Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass - Just Add Endangered Parents!
17:16 I'm with Jay here, half the plots in this show would not go nearly as catastrophically sideways as they do if Wu just told people shit
17:55 Jay gets a jet, Kai gets a motorcycle, Cole gets a dope car, Zane...gets a Zamboni.  Or is it a Zaneboni?
18:42 So do they just immediately know how to drive the vehicles because they're in tune with the weapons, or are all these teenagers actually certified drivers?  When did Kai learn how to ride a motorcycle if he's been running a business since he was 5?
19:41 Why did turning into a snake make Ed's goatee black?
20:47 They should totally make the dragon figurehead into a canon at some point in this show

Three Tribes Go Home
1 Then Joshua called a meeting of all the people from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and the eastern half-tribe of Manasseh. 2 He said to them, “You have obeyed everything Moses told you to do. He was a servant of the Lord. And also, you have obeyed all my commands. 3 All this time you have supported all the other Israelites. You have been careful to obey all the commands the Lord your God gave you. 4 The Lord your God promised to give the Israelites peace. Now he has kept his promise. Now you may go back to your homes. You may go to the land that Moses, the Lord’s servant, gave you. It is the land on the east side of the Jordan River. 5 But continue to obey the teachings Moses gave you. That law is to love the Lord your God and obey his commands. Continue to follow him and serve him the very best you can.”
6 Then Joshua said good-bye to them, and they left. They went away to their homes. 7 Moses had given the land of Bashan to the eastern half-tribe of Manasseh. Joshua gave land on the west side of the Jordan River to the western half-tribe of Manasseh. And he sent them to their homes. He blessed them. 8 He said, “Go back to your homes and your riches. You have many animals, silver, gold, bronze and iron. And you have many beautiful clothes. Also, you have taken many things from your enemies. You should divide these among yourselves.”
9 So the people from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and the eastern half-tribe of Manasseh left the other Israelites. They left Shiloh in Canaan and went back towards Gilead. This was their own land. Moses gave it to them as the Lord had commanded.
10 The people of Reuben, Gad and the eastern half-tribe of Manasseh traveled to Geliloth. This was near the Jordan River in the land of Canaan. There they built a beautiful altar. 11 But the other Israelites still at Shiloh heard about the altar these three tribes had built. They heard that the altar was at the border of Canaan at Geliloth. It was near the Jordan River on Israel’s side. 12 All the Israelites became very angry at these three tribes. They met together and decided to fight them.
13 So the Israelites sent some men to talk to the people of Reuben, Gad and the eastern half-tribe of Manasseh. The leader of these men was Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest. 14 They also sent one leader of each of the ten tribes at Shiloh. Each of these men was a leader of his family group of Israelites.
15 So these men went to Gilead. They went to talk to the people of Reuben, Gad and the eastern half-tribe of Manasseh. The men said to them: 16 “All the Israelites ask you: ‘Why did you turn against the God of Israel? Why did you build an altar for yourselves? You know that this is against God’s law. 17 Remember what happened at Peor? We still suffer today because of that sin. Because of it, God caused many of the Israelites to become very sick. 18 And now are you doing the same thing? Are you turning against the Lord? Will you refuse to follow the Lord?
“‘If you don’t stop what you’re doing, the Lord will be angry with everyone in Israel. 19 Your land may not be a good enough place to worship. If not, come over into our land. The Lord’s Tent is in our land. You may have some of our land and live there. But don’t turn against the Lord by building another altar. We already have the altar of the Lord our God. 20 Remember Achan son of Zerah. He refused to obey the command about what must be completely destroyed. That one man broke God’s law, but all the Israelites were punished. Achan died because of his sin. But many other people also died.’”
21 The people from Reuben, Gad and the eastern half-tribe of Manasseh answered them. They said: 22 “The Lord is our God! Again we say that the Lord is our God! God knows why we did this. We want you to know also. You can judge what we did. If you believe we have done something wrong, you may kill us. 23 If we broke God’s law, we ask the Lord himself to punish us. Do you think we built this altar to offer burnt offerings? And did we build it to use for offerings of grain and fellowship?
24 “No! We did not build it for that reason. We feared that some day your people would not accept us as part of your nation. Then they might say, ‘You cannot worship the Lord, the God of Israel. 25 God gave you land on the other side of the Jordan River. It separates us from you people of Reuben and Gad. You cannot worship the Lord.’ So we feared that your children might make our children stop worshiping the Lord.
26 “So we decided to build this altar. But we did not plan to use it for burning sacrifices and making offerings. 27 It was really to show our people that we worship the same God as you. This altar is proof to you and us. And it will prove to all our children who will come after us that we worship the Lord. We give our whole burnt offerings, grain and fellowship offerings to the Lord. This was to keep your children from saying that our children could not worship the Lord.
28 “In the future your children might say that we do not belong to Israel. Then our children could say, ‘Look! Our fathers who lived before us made an altar. It is exactly like the Lord’s altar. We do not use it for sacrifices. This altar shows that we are part of Israel.’
29 “Truly, we don’t want to be against the Lord. We don’t want to stop following him. We know the only true altar is the one in front of the Holy Tent. It belongs to the Lord our God.”
30 Phinehas the priest and the ten leaders heard these things. They listened to the people of Reuben, Gad and Manasseh. And they were pleased. 31 So Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, spoke. He said, “Now we know the Lord is with us. And we know you didn’t turn against him. We’re happy that the Israelites will not be punished by the Lord.”
32 Then Phinehas and the leaders went home. They left the people of Reuben and Gad in Gilead. And they went back to Canaan. There they told the Israelites what had happened. 33 They were also pleased. They were happy and thanked God. And they decided not to fight against the people of Reuben and Gad. They decided not to destroy those lands.
34 And the people of Reuben and Gad gave the altar a name. They called it Proof that We Believe that the Lord Is God. — Joshua 22 | International Children’s Bible (ICB) The Holy Bible, International Children’s Bible® Copyright© 1986, 1988, 1999, 2015 by Thomas Nelson.
