Hear me out on Pink diamond.
God this subject’s been going around lately, and I’ve seen alot of people fall to the far side when considering pink as a character. rebecca stated when S.U was first being announced on CN that none of the characters are flawless; they’re characters with their own issues, problems and secrets, she was aiming for a morally grey especially so with pink.
Now I’m gonna need you to be open minded while reading this, hear me out and not immediately after this write a block about how wrong I am and how much you want steven to go to jail or whatever other grimdark fantasies some have. I don’t have time for it and there’s a point to this. (Lets move on)
And I’ve seen people make some outlandish claims, one person said the only non selfish thing she did was protect earth like that’s a small task on a bucket list.
Leaving steven with her mess to clean up and so many more zany things, they funniest part is these same people stan the diamonds people who wanted to blow the earth up, kept gems as slaves for pete sake, so it’s hypocritical to me that people are willing to stan them despite pink making steven universe possible, she was very much still a savior of many gems and this earth.
Let’s go down the line and see why pink was the way she was and try to put some rational behind some of this:
Pink on homeworld-
First Pink was raised and coddled by her diamonds, a child ruled over by three toxic mothers, it goes without saying that she would without bad intentions pick on on some of their bad habits on how they do things. Pink already wanted to do her own things and we have to remember spinel was presented as a toy to her, let’s real it back a bit.
Remember steven’s dream of playing with pink pearl? They had plenty of fun behind closed doors, P.P was her friend who laughed and played with her, and in the memory we see her slowly drift away, then an image of glass falling apart to reveal white standing over Pink. I assume they were caught at one point and her pearl was used as an example, I can picture white cracking her and beating it into pink that pearls are objects.
I mean look at what happened to steven when they went to homeworld, because he fused with connie and white pearl frowned Yellow and Blue went balsticia and started zapping and bubbling gems left and right and ended up putting them in a cage they almost STARVED in! (They asked for food and looking at them it was clear they were low on energy) Plus when they got to steven’s backpack they scarfed down that food.
Who knows how long they put pink in there when she would act out.
So some time after pink pearl was taken, they gave Pink a garden and Spinel to keep her busy, Remember the other diamonds had no respect for pink as well; they didn’t listen to anything she had to say and as an impressionable kid she probably thought that spinel (again presented to her as a toy) was going to make them respect her less as a colony owner, Pink was very much a Diamond who wanted to grow up quickly because of the way she was treated. “You’re too young, you’re a child, your opinion doesn’t matter.” I mean it says as much when yellow and blue first starts accepting steven as pink and saying things like “you don’t know what you want.” I’ll be we all at one point heard that line.
But it’s also not that she was growing up why she left spinel, remember her last friend was cracked and had her mind taken over, spinel was clearly support to be similar to a court jester where if they failed to satisfy they get AXED and the diamonds would have done the same. “Oh pink doesn’t want her anymore?” Shattered.
Her transformation as Rose-
Pink never had all the answers, that was the point, she was a child making adult decisions, and when it came down to it she was both a genius and foolish. She was the only Diamond who saw what they were doing to other gems and gave up her status (if you could call it that) her rule and so on to protect earth’s life and the many gems so they could be who they want, she was a child vicariously living her freedom out through them.
And remember they also put a ban on traveling to homeworkd areas, the fight was never over, after a war, they had to collect the pieces, protect the humans, fight corrupted versions of her friends and family, fight her caretakers to the possible death to free gems she didn’t know, Humans she didn’t know “I know she saw beauty in everything, even in things like this, and jerks like you.”
And almost all of her choices were made because she didn’t have the right answer or the perfect one, we can all say we would but could we put it to the test and when it fails preach about how we thought what we were doing was right? Bismuth for example was a radical extremist who believed in shattering other gems and would not listen to reason, and she had better rallying power than she did, it’s stated in her episode that she could have gotten other crystal gems to agree, using a horrible enemy tactic a DIAMOND tactic at that.
Hell that could have been Lapis, could have been peridot or even amethyst imagine is bismuth was around when amethyst popped out, she would have killed her, it’s a possibility. Maybe rose didn’t have the answers for so like us she decided to set some aside.
Can’t reason with bismuth and her want to kill gems like spinel so she has to go, and the easy part is rose if she was a monster could have shattered both Bis and Spin, no one would find out, but she’s not a monster.
Our approaches to Spinel’s trauma-
At the end of the movie, I'm sure it was said to mask the pain for spinel but she jokes about how 6000 years she could have did that on her head and Yellow states 6000 years is nothing in response to spinel, showing diamonds/gems perceive time differently, to rose it could have been a month or so and after the diamonds were gone they could have gone for her after said ban was lifted, but it’s stated early on in S.U that they were heavily outmatched, a small army vs an armada of constantly advancing tect and gems. so rose could have been fighting this forever and that was probably her plan, she didn’t have perfect answers, perfect solutions. It’s always easy to say “why couldn’t you do this or that.”
One of my favorites was “why didn’t she poof and bubble spinel?” this person listed this as a better alternative as if they problem would be erased because s he’d be floating in a bubble never to be found or rescued instead of the possibility of her coming back after the war. (Let’s be real innocent spinel wouldn’t survive the war.) Plus again we’re forgetting that because of her protecting the earth life exist; this I cannot stress enough.
I like that rose isn’t a pristine, perfect paragon that has all the answers.
The wrap up-
And lastly, people keep saying that she intentionally left steven with her problems, she didn’t!
She created steven out of love, love was very important to her, and while she kept her secrets she very much cared for everyone she interacted with, she just didn’t have the perfect solutions nor the perfect ways to fix and help them.
Heck the diamonds didn’t even touch the earth since they blasted it till peridot went down there and found out there was life on the planet; Yellow didn’t even know till peridot contacted her. “There’s still life on that planet?” “I want that planet to die.” Pink was the only good one out of the whole bunch at the time.
Does it mean she’s perfect like the crystal gems thought? No one's perfect.
Did she have all the answers? No but the life she made was able to give the answer she couldn't. Like hints on a wall from past passersby in a maze, they can offer you a solution to a puzzle or a way you yourself didn’t have and so on to the next person.
And I’m sure rose probably felt the same way about steven.
“I always thought I might be bad now I know that it;s true’ cause I think you’re so good and I’m nothing like you.” I could be reading too much into that line however, but Rebecca stated that none of these characters are flawless but they aren’t 100% evil either.
And her best decision was having steven, well all know that.
Thank you for reading this all out and I hope it makes people consider Pink diamond’s character, I’m not saying you have to like her, but understand what rebecca’s going for in her portrayal of her characters.
thank you.

If you were an aristocratic gem in Homeworkd society in Era 1, did you think you would join to the Crystal Gems or just stay as an privileged gem? I know, it is a hard question, sorry 😅😅😅
stay a privileged gem. earth is fine but if i learned anything from pearl is that staying on the same planet for an eternity is... boring, gems are made for the diamonds to serve a purpose. and straying from that has it’s liberties and freedoms but after a while, it’s like...
whats your purpose? what are you going to do with your existence? i mean eventually earth is going to die either from the humans on it or when it’s sun implodes? then what?
so yes if i had a choice to be either a crystal gem or a homeworld gem I'd be a homeworld gem. most likely a sapphire since it’s my birthstone

@wyvernseeker topaz has a scimitar and she acts as a guard for moonstone (who doesn’t have a weapon she’s strictly a non-combat survey gem) and they’re not quite homeworkd loyal gems but they never really became crystal gems either?? citrine and howlite however are homeworld gems, and they’re infiltration gems who root out resistance on the down low and crush it! Citrine has clawed gauntlets and howlite has chakrams :V in terms of like, roles, topaz and moonstone are like ruby and sapphire, a guard and a high ranked calculative gem, and citrine and howlite are like, spies and assassins! I’m glad you like em and wanted to know about em i like talking bout characters ;3;

Since the Steven Universe movie got me hella back in the zone, i redrew my own gem ocs, aka the goon squad :V one gem for each court.

Okay but is Topaz just two Topazes fused (and if so, why?), or is she two different gems fused (and if so, when did Homeworkd start embracing that?)

This is a gemsona I made for my boyfriend. Stone Placement: Lower back Outfit: Homeworld outfit (diamond is replaced with a star) Weapon: Flail Special Abilities: Telekinesis Fusion Dance Style: Modern/Unsure Personality: Ambiverted, Funny, Reserved with feelings, Caring, Excitable, Enjoys joking around, Light-hearted, Intelligent Backstory: Moonstone is a stone to relieve emotional stress. Therefore on Homeworld, moonstones are entertainers. Our moonstone was a comedian. He could make everyone laugh. He had a good amount of friend and enjoyed joking around with them, but he kept with real emotions hidden. When the Gem War began, Moonstone was taken to cheer up the troops, but he could also be seen fighting for Homeworld with fellow comrades. When the war was over and Homeworld was defeated, all the gems left but Moonstone was left behind. He felt utterly betrayed by Homeworkd, and he roamed the earth for a while feeling lost. One day, he met Jade. She was shy, but she taught him about the plants and animals of the earth. He began to see its beauty and fell in love with dogs and even helped develop several breeds. Moonstone was introduced to the Crystal Gems, and he was shocked to find that they accepted him after fighting against them. He now roams around with Jade still entertaining people’s and making them laugh. Moonstone is very awkward with dancing, but once Jade did convince him to try. They ended up fusing and making Emerald.

Click, click. Tap, tap. Click. Tap. Click. Tap, tap. Click, click. Tap, tap, tap. Click, click—
"Commander Sunstone?"
The sound of the keyboard came to an halt as the orange gem in front of it stopped, staying immobile for about five minutes before it seemingly sighed and pressed a small button on the green, translucent keyboard, making both the screen and keyboard disappear with a faint beep. Their attention was brought to the seemingly younger gem in front of them who looked to have been put in charge of it's current job that day, looking more 'lively' than any other gem currently in the room.
Of course the gem was slow, working for ninety-six hours non-stop did that to anyone who wasn't a workaholic. The rest of their team wasn't on the best of conditions too: most of the gems had been working on the same reports for hours in fear that tiredness had made them do an error- because even the smallest of errors could let make them end in the Army Division, where their end was surely secured. Sunstone could only feel pity for them, they had a long time on this job so dealing with exhaustion wasn't a problem, but their fellow coworkers where new- desperation had driven them to chose filling and checking endless reports than being gem-shields in the army.
The orange gem looked at the one in front of them and took the piece of green technology the other had for them, the younger gem giving them a small bow before leaving to give out more of the messages- Sunstone could only hope to see her tomorrow in the same position. As they made their way to the deck where the ships for exploration where stored, Sunstone passed by many other gems: some with a expression of terror on their faces, some of visible sadness, and some looked to have lost all shine of life in their eyes. Yes, that was their current condition in Homeworld- it was no longer a peaceful Utopia for gems to live and learn, it was a crumpling Dystopia trying to keep up it's appearance for those of weak mind to not fall into panic. It was nothing like it used to be.
It wasn't like the beautiful blue planet they wanted to rule.
As Sunstone entered the ship and put in the coordinates to Planet 13#, they reflected to what they had learned of Earth: the beings that lived in there looked so...small and fragile, they always tried to make up things for what they couldn't do for themselves, interesting machines to ease their own boredom. How could they create such odd yet interesting machines? Nothing resembled the things Homeworkd created or could even create, and Sunstone could only feel curiosity from their position of explorer. It was such a strong curiosity that had driven Sunstone into changing their clothing style- even taking another form that closely resembled more of a human being that an actual gem, in hopes that if they were to leave for Earth they could easily blend in. Maybe, one day, they could see Earth by themselves as an explorer and communicate with the living beings that existed in there. That was their only desire.
Space travel happened so quickly that it still surprised Sunstone now and then, though, it may be because they were thinking too much. Planet 13# was quite a rocky one, looking a lot like Planet 56#, so it was no clue it had been put in the waiting list of planets to be explored. There weren't that many places to land on the area, neither it seemed for a Warp-Pad so it was kind of a difficult task for other gems to properly explore the area and search for signs of live in it. Which mean that it was a priority to clean the place from obstacles- something Sunstone knew how to do and, if they had to be honest. Summoning their weapons, a toothy grin appeared on their face as they smashed a near boulder into pieces that flew in many directions other directions. Destroying things was something they really enjoyed, their stress was quick to go away once they centered their minds into smashing things into pieces.
Sometimes, Sunstone would put faces into those rocks: of their superiors, of annoying coworkers, of those who pointed fingers at them from being different than them, for not being like the others—
The orange gem stopped abruptly, their gauntlets stopping really close to the boulder they were about to smash, and un-summoned their weapons. Gently, the gem kneeled down to look at the rocky creature that was crawling on the surface of the reddish rock: it resembled a lot like a small, harmless looking Crystal Shrimp, blunt spikes made of rock on their backs as it crawled on top of the rock- completely oblivious to the being bigger than it that was watching it, seemingly resting a top the boulder without a care of the world. Sunstone carefully offered a hand to the smaller being, which finally noticed their presence and seemingly stared at their palm with eyes Sunstone couldn't see.
The being could be poisonous, it could melt their hand or worse, and Sunstone was well aware of this, but it was part of their job too- report the beings that lived in the planet (if there were) and the dangers they could provide for the colonists once they came to the planet. It felt funny, the many, small, hair-covered legs of the being that deemed their palm a safe surface for them to lay on, and just for a little moment -for a small, small moment- Sunstone forgot about all: the war, the enslavement, the deaths of many of their fellow gems, the destruction of many other beings that couldn't stand a chance to them and had to senselessly suffered their demise at the hands of careless leaders, and then reality came back in the sounds of small beeping. The zone has been scanned and the piece of technology in one of their pockets beeped to told them this, all that was now left to do was to write a report about the surrounding area and the beings living on it. Looking at the small creature on their palm, Sunstone bit their lower lip and despairingly started to look around for a place to hide the creature.
Somewhere, there had to be a place to hid the poor thing and keep it safe from he colonists that were to come— Their answer came in the form of a cave not to far away from it, the orange gem rushed inside while trying to not scare the smaller being in their hand. It was slightly dark, but light seemed to exist deeper inside the cave and Sunstone walked to it in hopes of finding a place to put the small thing on. To their surprise, the light came from a couple of crystals on top of the caver that reflected some sun rays from outside- a source of light for the many other rocky beings similar to the one on their hand that were gleefully crawling on the surface of many other rocks that were being hit by the reflected sun rays. Carefully letting the rocky worm crawl on a near rock, Sunstone walked out of the cave and stared at the entrance with a small frown on their face and summoned their weapon. With a decisive look on them, they held up their gauntlets and swung them at the top of the entrance—
Commander of the Exploration Division, Sunstone
Date: XX/XX/XXXX
Planet: 13#
Report:
Planet 13#, this planet presents an odd surface that can be easily dealt by destroying the boulders around the area. A collapsed cave can be found north-west the area of the warp- but there is nothing of important other than crystals with little resistence and by no means useful for ships or construction, it's suggested for the colonist to bring material for the construction of the base in Planet 13#. Life forms on the planet had been dealt with, as they seem to drive only on instict and lack awareness. On otther notes, the quiality of this planet for 'Kindergander' purposes—
"Commander Sunstone?"
Blinking, Sunstone turned their attention to the green gem that had stopped in front of them. They felt like they had seen them before, but they were unable to put their finger on it and were left to tilt ther head in confusion. A frown was set upon their face when they heard the green gem mutter something under her breath, doing nothing to hide the look of disgust on her face as she did.
"Oh you have to be kidding me you freak, you can't remember me again, can you?."
The green gem cleared her throat and stood tall, a hand on her chest as she introduced herself to her boss yet again. "It is me, Commander, Serpentine: the current new member of the exploration division." Setting her eyes on the green piece of technology she had on her left hand, she held it up for Sunstone to see. "We have request from the High-ups, the Warp -pad on Earth has been damaged and is need of repairing— ew, don't touch me!" Serpetine hissed loudly when Sunstone tried to take the green piece from her hand, accidently touching her hand in the process. Sunstone was quick to pull their hand away -the green piece of techonology in their hand- while Serpentine did the same, looking as if she had touched something awful- which, by her standards, had been done. After a couple of seconds, Serpentine was once again fine and continued to talk. "It's a top priority for it to be repaired, as we have troubles with sending ships without causing ruckus." Sunstone swore they had heard something along the lines of Stupid Humans before Serpentine's attention was back on them. "The ship is already set on the deck, please leave as quick as possible." Quietly, and hiding their anger and pain from the other, Sunstone quickly left to the docking station.
Once she made sure the orange gem was far away from reach, Serpentine sneered and turned to the other direction- playing with a green piece of technology in her hands. "Let's see how far you go with that, you human-loving freak, I can only hope for your trippy journey to be the last" And with those words, she crushed the piece of technology with the real coordenates to Earth.
Oh well, there were many gems who could take the place as a Commander of the Exploration Division. What was a small, accidental, lose of a gem?

Note
The dark Diamond was skeptical of this gem’s loyalty, with good reason. It wasn’t every day that they found a Homeworkd aligned gem still on the Earth. As of late, they had lost quite a few good gems to the Crystal Gens so why should she believe a gem that wasn’t even in their systems it had been so long since her last mission.
Thinking about Pink Diamond’s demise or lack there of only cut Blue Diamond like a knife, reminding her of how raw and fresh her wounds really were. She had been attempting to find as much information about those moments as of late, somewhat hoping she could disprove the very valid theory floating around Homeworld.
“My Diamond.” She spoke with a small flick of her wrist before talking again, “I would love to see this ‘tape player’ of this.” It was obvious that Blue didn’t know what a tape player was.
Amanda groaned when she finally came to. The last thing she remembered was fighting alongside the Crystal Gems, and getting hit from behind. Then she woke up in some sort of cell. "Great.... I guess I got poofed by a sneak attack." she growled to herself. The Gem looked around and realized she was on a Homeworld ship, which meant there was no way of getting out by herself.
Blue Diamond hadn’t really intended on capturing any Crystal Gems. No, she had grown rather fed up with the entire thought that they even still existed that she didn’t want to think about it. After all, that thought only made her think of Rose Quartz. She absolutely hadn’t wanted to think about that disgrace.
However, when an Agate approached her about a captured Crystal Gem, the Diamond wouldn’t have dared asking the Agate to let her go. After all, Yellow Diamond was still out for shattering and thus Blue was expected to respond in an appropriate manner.
“Bring her to me.” Blue Diamond requested with a lazy wave of her hand. She had no passion behind her words, not wanting to face that she was probably going to have to shatter a gem. After all, she hated shattering gems.
The Agate saluted and tapped away with her high hells clicking with every sing step.
Per the azure gem’s request, the elite Agate walked through the halls of the holding cells until she found the one with the Earth gem in it. “On your feet, traitor.” She said, her tone harsh as she looked at her with narrow eyes.
