it's time to move "vocabulary mixup lessons with sao" from twitter to tumblr!
today's common fanfic fuckup that slays the man:
flout: to disobey or avoid
flaunt: to loudly/ostentatiously display
these two are very disconcerting to see mixed up!! you don't USUALLY "flaunt" the rules, and you certainly don't "flout" your new outfit!

Not sure if you explained this before but what inspired you to use the IRL Yuuki clan as Amaya's backstory?
This is going to go back to the original conception of LR.
It may come as a surprise, but Amaya was originally the Sakamaki's sister (how original, I know lol). I was just too lazy to think up of an original family name since it was just me playing imagination in my own head at the time. But eventually, I couldn't stomach being related to them anymore and tried to think up an original backstory.
I always thought the Sengoku period and historical samurai fantasy was cool so I knew I wanted something like that. I actually had a very vivid image of Amaya fighting on a snowy battlefield, which became my launching point.
I also mentioned that I stole "Yuuki" from SAO because I liked how it sounded, and how it was a homophone for "courage". I was originally trying to come up with my own kanji for it, and while internet surfing around for ideas, I found that "Yuuki" was an IRL samurai clan. There's not a lot of info since they aren't that prominent compared to the usual Sengoku historical figures, but you'll find most of what I referenced by looking up "Shirakawa Castle" or "Komine Castle".
I'd already come up with the idea that the main conflict would be surrounding Amaya's position as a female heir, and that Krul would turn her into a vampire so she could stop an invasion to protect her home. But, I hadn't set any details in stone yet.
Oddly enough, what vague info I could find fit into this initial idea perfectly and with more research, all those details just fell into place.
Of course, LR's depiction of the Yuuki-Komine conflict, what led to the battle with the Ashina, the Yuuki's allegiance with the Date clan, and their dispossession by Hideyoshi were all completely made up. While these things did happen in real life and my version of events was just filling in the gaps of the info I found, I'm sure the real reasons behind why they happened were very different, haha.
I wrote my story in a way that was consistent with the information I found because I wanted to be historically accurate so it would sound believable. (Unlike actual dl's.....questionable historical references at best....) I actually chose my university classes around what I thought would be useful in writing LR. 😅 (This included a crapton of Japanese history classes)
But of course, the accuracy only goes as far as what I needed to tell the story I wanted. Many artistic liberties were taken. So goes without saying, but don't use LR as a history textbook lol.
In the end, I just had always wanted to read a Sengoku historical fantasy story with a heroine like Amaya, so that's what I wrote!

The Ground
Gourd is called Hulu in Chinese, a gourd is so auspicious in Feng Shui. The first character, hu, is the homophone of a word which means ‘to protect’ and of another one which means ‘blessing’, and is said to ward off evil spirits and illnesses. In Chinese mythology, many holy men are depicted holding one, which they could use either as a receptacle for magical potions or to confine evil spirits within it. The gourd can absorb negative energy from its surroundings. Hulu also sounds similar to fulu, which means ‘happiness’ as well as ‘high official rank’. The gourd has many seeds, it symbolizes fertility. The shape of the gourd resembles “8”, the number “8” is the most favorite number of the Chinese. The Cantonese pronunciation for this number is fatt (发), which implies “to prosper”.

藍二乗 - ヨルシカ
Deep Indigo - Yorushika
So this song and artist are rather special to me. If I sort my playlist of Japanese music on Spotify by the order they were added in, then this song comes right after a block of My Hero Academia OPs and EPs, Crossing the Field from SAO, and a song by Nogizaka46. So this song comes pretty early in my J-Pop experience and Yorushika was the first J-Pop artist that I really took an interest in.
How to listen: I strongly recommend appreciating the YouTube version of this song. The video has really good English subtitles if you enable them. Additionally, the description below the video has translations of some text in the video. The video is also pretty solid in general.  https://youtu.be/4MoRLTAJY_0 https://open.spotify.com/track/5XApCrSTIAPapBPT1Vo4SZ?si=95ef84a46d0a4c63
Discussion: I feel like the title for this song is pretty apt. The image of Deep Indigo matches the melancholy, bleak, and hurt vibes of the song. Additionally, the YouTube video clarifies that the Japanese title (or at least parts of it) is homophonous with the words ‘grief’ and ‘love’, which gives some insight into the underlying narrative of the song. This song seems to be about the death of an individual named Elma, and the artist’s feelings in the wake of that loss. Elma is a recurring individual in Yorushika’s songs and the songs actually have a continuous narrative. The line “Because maybe the only value of a life is in they way it ends” makes me strongly inclined to believe that Elma died. Under that assumption, this is just such a sad, pained song. Singing about expiration dates on dreams, “ Life is just one compromise after another”, and “I don’t believe in hearts or fate or love songs or life / After all, if you can’t sell something it has no value”! It’s just such a bleak outlook that the artist paints and more I think and write about it, the more I almost feel like crying.
Another thing I love is that the song uses a lot of imagery related to writing and the video builds on that imagery quite a bit too. As someone who really likes nice paper and excellent writing instruments, that imagery rather resonates with me. The idea of filling in a notebook with the ink of our lives isn’t exactly a new analog, but Yorushika does portray the idea in a uniquely compelling manner. Additionally, as an individual with a liking for writing instruments I naturally had to identify the ink and pen used in this video. The ink is the Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo (moonlight) ink sold by Pilot and the Platinum 3776 Century, black with gold trim and a medium 14k nib (高すぎます!).
Anyway, I’ll probably make more posts about Yorushika’s music in the future and attempt to unravel the underlying narrative as I do so. So you could call this a ‘Part One’. I’m sure someone else on the internet has it soundly unraveled though in case any readers don’t want to wait on me.

My dad just made the most horrible dad joke.
On Germany winning the Confederations Cup semi and going into the final on Sunday and Germany U21 going into the Euro U21 Championship final Friday:
Có biết tại sao Đức thắng không có tốt không? Tại vì đứt thắng không có tốt. Do you know why Germany (Đức) winning (thắng) is not good? Because a severed (đứt) brake (thắng) is not good. Đức and đứt are homophones. Thắng and thắng are homographs.
