Consider this a sort of expansion of my previous Shiki x Homura edit (the context of which you can find in the original edit).

Shiki could see her. The unconscious body of Homura Kogetsu, laying there on a pillar of steel. Unmoving, as if...as if she was no longer breathing.

No... Shiki didn't want to believe that the worst had occurred. That his friend's battle with one of the Dark Stars had taken its toll on her, putting increased pressure on her already exhausted body.

She had to be alive. She had to.

Yet, the x-ray vision of his robotic eye didn't lie.

Homura's heart...it was no longer beating.
