I have to say, I now crave the way you write unreliable narrators - where the reader doesn't know that the narrator is unreliable until its hitting them in face. Every limited narrator is unreliable (when done well) by virtue of them being a person, but its quite a treat to have a character gaslight themselves so hard they genuinely seem honest in their reasonings. Your way of getting into a characters head and viewing the world from their perspective is very apparent throughout your fics. I recently re-read your old atla and hawks-centric fics, and you have such a unique and recognizable flavor to your writing :)
I love your writing, been re-reading your stuff every so often since I first discovered you
Thank you so much! It is, firstly, an absolute delight to me that people are still dipping back and reading (rereading!!) things of mine that are a few years old now.
Secondly, I think the biggest part of writing an unreliable narrator is that, like... most people, no matter who they are or what they're doing, are generally convinced that they're doing the right thing on some level. Almost nobody is sitting there going, "I'm going to make a series of bad choices on purpose!" even if the choices are clearly awful from the outside. The way you describe my writing, where as a reader you're not quite hit in the face with what's been spiraling on until the character is - that's so lovely for me to hear, because that means I'm doing a good job convincingly writing that "I'm behaving in a way that makes sense to me" mindset!
Which is my favorite thing to do in writing, hahaha. Even in my fantroll RP days, all of my OCs were designed Like That (TM).
So I'm really glad that you're enjoying the ride! I had a lot of fun building the theme park with funhouse mirrors plastered everywhere. >:)

I loooved seeing your outline for your angel fic! I'm an artist, not much of a writer, and I always find it so interesting to see how creators of different mediums plan out their works. Do you have another (sfw :)) part of an outline that you dont mind sharing?
Sure! :D Thank you so much!! I feel similarly when I see the step-by-step sketch-line-color process for many artists (especially flat colors to shading), haha, and it's fun to know that the curiosity is mutual.
I don't have any left for Hazbin Hotel fics I've actually posted (Take Two and Leave a Voicemail is a rare example of me writing without an outline bar some very sparse notes I jotted down, and the rest are NSFW) but I do have a pretty thorough outline for a gen Alastor whump fic I want to do. It's also a fic I chatted about with a friend, so some of the bullet points are actually just copy/pasted from Discord directly!
Do NOT click through the cut if you don't want absolutely massive spoilers for what I'm actively working on, though, haha. Or will be working on once I'm no longer hung over zkxljhf.
ETA 02/13/24: I CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT THE MAIN ANTAGONIST AND IT'S GONNA BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NOW, I LIKE IT MUCH BETTER THE NEW WAY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see, it's pretty much "That's it, that's the whole fic!" except with weird gaps that don't make sense to people who are not me, which really lowers the activation energy required for sitting down and writing full sentences.
(I also have a bunch of notes on who the shadowy figure is and what their motivations are but I'll let at least that part stay a bit of a surprise, haha. I actually had a hard time deciding how to do that bit because I really wanted it to be an actual character (canon or OC, whatever), not a generic caricature of a villain.)

Do you suppose whump exists outside of fanfics? Im trying to think of any media that did it, but all I can remember is characters being unaffected/pushing through any traumatic experiences. It's usually all the hurt and non-to-little the comfort part of whump.
Okay, super weird example, but, uh, have you seen Renfield (2023)? With Nick Cage as Dracula? It's an absolutely silly, ridiculous, very fun movie, but everything about how Dracula treats Renfield in that movie and his character arc with regards to the emotional abuse is just the most delightfully whumpy shit ever. It's actually the movie that caused me to use that term in front of my med school friends and prompt a deep-dive as one of them became increasingly horrified and fascinated at the very concept of whump altogether. He still asks me about it sometimes, hahaha.
I don't think it was intentionally whump, though. I would say that whump in the spirit of how deliberate it is in fanfic probably doesn't exist in the same form outside of fanfiction, but I suspect that you can probably find a lot of whumpy content in things like romance novels. The trope of an injured person getting patched up by their love interest is pretty true-to-form for whump, for example!
