Hotch x reader - you’re human too

6: “It scares me.” “What does?” “One day you’ll see me the same way I see me..”

Sitting in your office, you ran a hand down your face as you took a small breath, setting your notebook aside.

You loved your job, you did, you loved helping people and helping them lift their burdens and support them, but it took its toll after a while.

Today was one of those days, and you were finding it hard to fully give your attention to everyone.

Sighing again, you sipped your cold coffee and turned your attention to your computer to read through some emails.

There was a knock on your door, and you looked up as it opened and you smiled.

“Hey, everything alright?” You asked.

“Yeah, yeah. I just thought I’d come talk to you if that’s alright?” Hotch asked.

You nodded, gesturing to the seat.

“Absolutely it’s why I’m here.”

He nodded and sat down and he looked at you.

He took in your tired appearance, the bite marks at the end of your pen, and studied you for a moment.

“Are you alright?” He asked.

You stopped what you were doing and looked at him.

“Of course.”

Hotch frowned a little bit, furrowing his brows.

“You can talk to me your know.”

You sighed, knowing he was profiling you and even if you told him not to do it he was going to carry on doing it until you talked to him.

You pursed your lips slightly and leant back in your chair as you gazed at him.

“The one who heals others has no one to heal them.” You mused.

Hotch stood up, walking over he sat on your desk and held out his hand and you reached up, giving him one of your hands.

He took it, and covered it with both of his.

“Then I’ll heal you.”

You shook your head a little bit as you looked up at him.

“You can’t…” you whispered.

Hotch frowned.

“Why? You do it for all of us, let me ease your burden.”

You sighed, and glanced away from him.

“It scares me.”

He looked at you.

“What does?”

Slowly you turned your gaze back to the man in front of you, and you gave him a weak smile.

“One day you’ll see me the same way I see me..”

Hotch urged you to stand up and you did, and he gently held you, and your hands instinctively came up to clutch the back of his blazer.

“I’m always going to see you as an absolutely wonderful person with a heart of gold, and nothing will ever change that…” he whispered.

Hotch placed his chin on your head.

He knew you wouldn’t tell him anything if you didn’t want to, you were good at that and nothing could get you to crack.

So he settled for just holding you and reminding you that everybody was human, and everybody struggled

BroTP: The nerd power trifecta--Penelope, Spencer, and Emily

General Opinions: Penelope is a great character and I love her a lot, but I also take issue with how she was treated by the writers in some circumstances (the whole Kevin deal). I love how she directly contrasts lots of the other characters in the BAU and still does her job well, illustrating that there’s more than one way to be a good FBI agent and to be serious about the job.

OTP: Spencer Reid

BroTP: Love a good BroTP with Emily. Also love a healthy post-divorce relationship between Hotch and Haley where they’re still good friends.

General Opinions: Hotch is another good character. My main issue with him is how the writers basically made all the women in his life objects to motivate him to take action. It happened with Elle (she served as a catalyst to make him more dedicated to his team), with Haley in the divorce, with Kate in the S4 opener, and with Haley in her eventual death--not to mention Beth’s treatment later on. The writers consistently used women as plot devices to motivate their Tough White Male Protagonist, and I take a lot of issue with that.
