Hey y’all! I’m gonna throw in my two cents about Pedro Pascal (and others) at the Met Gala this year because what is tumblr if not a place to give your opinion?

Let me start with this, not a single person who went to the 2023 Met Gala was secretly “protesting” the event or Karl. I’m being serious, not a single person. Especially not Pedro.

And I don’t say this to like burst anyone’s bubble! I say this as someone who likes fashion and celebrities and politics and activism. I say this as someone who loves hyping up the art Hollywood produces but who believes in being realistic about the world we are living in. And, in my opinion, pretending that rich famous celebs (even ones I love like Pedro!!) are somehow secretly subverting the system isn’t helpful. It’s actually very harmful.

So let’s break this down!

How does the Met Gala work?

So the Met Gala is actually a charity event. Every first Monday in May the Met puts on their gala to raise money for the Costume Institute. And they raise a lot of money like this. I mean A LOT. In 2017 they raised 12 million dollars.

So how to people get in??

Tickets are $50,000 a piece. Yes. $50,000. And not anyone can just buy one! Brands, like fashion house Valentino, buy tickets and then invite celebrities to go and show off their clothes. Valentino dressed 8 celebs at this years Met Gala. 8! Thats a huge chunk of change my lord.

So let me start by clearing this up: When it comes to the Met Gala Valentino is not a competitor to Karl. They just aren't. In the real world, Chanel and Valentino are competitors, but it doesn't work that way at the Met Gala in literally any sense. Not every celeb can show up in Chanel, so fashion houses and designers were asked to create looks to honor Karl. Which they did. In fact, here's Pierpaolo Piccioli honoring Karl in Vogue with a Valentino look. They were not enemies and he wasn't going to dress anyone in a "protest" look because he wanted to impress people online. Im sorry, but in the world of fashion Karl is a legend and everyone that night wanted to pay respects.

But lets move on to the actual looks.

The celebrities who were dressed by Valentino this year were Rihanna, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Viola Davis, Labrinth, Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas and Stephanie Hsu.

Lets look at how they were styled:

Okay so Karl famously loved a black and white looks so Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas and Stephanie Hsu all being in black and white is pretty spot on honoring from Valentino. Many, many celebs that night were in black and white.

But here's something else about the Met Gala, it's a really, really important event. And so many people who know nothing about fashion pay attention to it. So designers not only want to send looks that honor the theme, they want to send looks that honor their latest collections because they want people to buy their shit lol.

Viola Davis is in pink not because she wanted to protest anyone but because Valentino put out the PINKEST of PINK Fall/Winter 2022-2023 collections...ever. It's called the Pink PP collection and it literally took the fashion world by storm. Look at all that pink! This collection was literally everywhere last season, every celeb and influencer wanted this collection in their hands. If you Google "celebs Valentino pink", you're going to get a thousand photos of the hottest celebs rocking this collection. In fact, at last years Met Gala, Valentino dressed Sebastian Stan and Glen Close in pink.

It's just Valentino's Pink at this point. So much so that fashion critics almost cringe when they see it now lmao because it was so in our faces for that season. I understand that someone dug up a quote from Karl from years ago that people interrupted as him saying he doesn't like pink but thats actually incorrect. He used pink on the runway a lot.

Here he is walking the Chanel runway with his muse Cara Delevingne who's wearing....pink. There are many many more examples of this but i'll stop.

Okay. Lets talk about Pedros look.

As you can see he's wearing this almost exactly as it came down the runway. To me this means he had really very little control over the look. It wasn't designed specifically for him (as Olivia Wilde's look was designed specifically for her by Chloe), they just took it off the runway and slapped him in it because he's literally the hottest celebrity right now and Valentino wanted him to stand out in red and have people talk about them as they talked about Pedro. That's fine! That's how fashion works!

Idk if everyone has noticed how many black and white looks there were on the carpet but I'm telling you it was a LOT. Anyone not in black and white was gonna get noticed even more. That's why Valentino put Labrinth and Pedro in matching red looks. They had just sent those looks down the runway and they wanted them to stand out and get noticed. They put Rihanna and Florence in matching white looks. Priyanka, Nick and Stephanie all matched in black and white. They built a really clear theme when you line them up together. The only one who doesn't match is Viola and thats because, as I explained above, she's wearing PP pink which is iconic to their brand right now.

He's wearing the brand logo on his fingernails not because he's protesting anyone lmao but because they bought him a ticket worth $50,000 and he OWES them. The least he can do is get a silly manicure and have everyone zoom in on his hands to see that Valentino logo! And the look is meant to be edgy! Whats the least edgy but edgy thing for him to do? Get his nails done and then flip off the camera to show a brand logo. Duh.

Look. All that is to say. You can dig up all the gross and hateful quotes you want from Karl about pink or shorts or what he personally liked in fashion but it doesn't matter. Thats just not how the fashion industry works. Not a single person who actually cared about protesting him went that night. I'm certain if you asked Pedro personally "do you agree with some of the things Karl said?" he would answer, "NO! Of course I don't!" I think almost every single person who attended the Met Gala that night would say no. But no one has asked Pedro, at least not in public anyway.

So I get why people are upset he would go and now they feel they have to create a narrative about how he wasn't actually there to honor but secretly to protest and be a rebel. Guys, I mean this with love...thats silly. Thats SO silly. And it's not helpful. We have to let the rich and famous people speak for themselves and when they make mistakes or do things we don't agree with, they have to explain for themselves. We can't do it for them. A very rich fashion house bought him an obscenely expensive ticket to a special event and told him to wear a look off the runway and Pedro is FAMOUS now and he wants to keep it that way so he said "ok! sounds great!" That's it.

As far as what Pedro has said in public, he has no regrets about going to an event that honored a shitty guy and he wasn't protesting anything or anyone. Let's keep that narrative until he actually says otherwise with his own grown up, adult mouth.

Soon, Dani joined her in touching Grace. That made the constant cycle of pleasure, need and anticipation even harder to bear. She started to lose track of which hand was which and who was who, as it all blended together into a delirious mass of sensation.

It wasn’t long before a third hand joined the chorus, then a fourth, each more overwhelming than the last. Grace’s moaning had become nothing more than a set of long, indistinct, animalistic sounds, made wet and gurgling from the drool that was dripping from her ball gag. Despite the blindfold, she was seeing white, not black. In fact, to Grace, it was like her mind and body were starting to come apart. Her body was a live wire, twitching and sparking with unbearable arousal, while her mind was just sinking, sinking, sinking, drowned by the bedroom’s heady scent and the inescapable rhythm of her own heart.

“Oh my god,” Dulcinea giggled. “Look at her!”

“Yeah,” Dani agreed, laughing. Grace could only imagine how pathetic she must have looked. “I’m glad we can give her something special. A fitting reward.”

“Absolutely,” Dulcinea purred. “It’s really the least she deserves, for turning us into dykes.”

It took several seconds for the significance of that sentence to penetrate Grace’s addled mind. But once it did, she immediately went very, very still.

How did Dulcinea Amare know about that?

Dulcinea wasn’t supposed to know that.

Dani must have told her.

Which meant…

“Oops!” Dulcinea giggled when she noticed Grace’s reaction. “Did I spill our secret?”

“Not prematurely,” Dani replied, laughing. “After all, what’s she gonna do about it now?”

Grace was still frozen in place, deeply conscious of her own helplessness. She didn’t bother to try straining against the restraints. She knew that escape was impossible.

“I might as well fill in the rest,” Dani added. “See, Grace, I know you’ve been planning to leave. But that didn’t sit right with me. I’ve been thinking: what could I do, with your hypnotic skills at my full disposal? There are so many women in Hollywood who deserve to be awakened to all the same joys you awakened me to. Plus, after making me so… voracious, I think it’s only fair you help satisfy my appetites.”

Grace could already see what was coming. The scent. The rhythms.

“Once I told Dulcinea everything, she was happy to help,” Dani continued. “And we came up with a plan to give you a taste of your own medicine.”

“We just needed to get you in the right spot,” Dulcinea put in. “Gagged, so you can’t use any trigger words. Hands tied, so you can’t pull any tricks there. Fortunately for us, you were so very obliging.”

Desperately, Grace tried to think. She needed to formulate a way out. But she couldn’t. She couldn’t think. Why couldn’t she think?

“It’s the candles, if you’re wondering,” Dani said, as if answering Grace’s thoughts. “We’re new to hypnosis, so we figured a little chemical assistance might be in order. On its own, it’s just a relaxant. But along with everything else, it’s helped make you nice and susceptible.”

“Even with that,” Dulcinea added, “we were worried we might mess it up. But then we realized that we already had exactly what we needed: a whole audio library of hypnotic recordings, made by someone who’s very, very good at what she does.”

“Here,” came Dani’s voice. “What do you think?”

Grace heard shuffling and then felt something close over her ears. Noise-canceling headphones. Soon after, she started to hear a voice accompanied by deep, hypnotic, binaural tones.

Her voice.

Within moments, it was beginning to work, Grace felt her own, carefully-worded hypnotic language start to tug at her, dragging her deeper into the nascent, drug-enhanced trance Dani and Dulcinea had already guided her into.

“I think we’ll leave you like this for, oh, say, a few hours?” Dani laughed. Her voice was muted through the headphones, but still audible. “I’m sure that’ll soften you up. After that, I’m excited to take care of the rest myself.”

Grace felt her blindfold being tugged aside. Once her eyes adjusted to the bedroom’s dim light, she was captivated by what she saw.

Dani was kneeling above her, one leg planted on either side of her body. A wild grin was on her face, and her body was raised up as if to display herself in all her reborn, dykey radiance.

And dangling from one of her hands was a pocket watch. Grace shivered as she imagined what that was going to do to her.

“Don’t worry,” Dulcinea said. She was kneeling submissively at Dani’s side, but her grin was every bit as wide. “We’ll be nice. I promise you’ll enjoy being Dani’s new permanent assistant.”

As Dani replaced the blindfold, Grace wondered what kind of future they had in store for her. From the sounds of it, they were going to make sure she was submissive and obedient inside as well as out, and keep her totally devoted to Dani. Then, Dani would use Grace as her own pet hypnotist, turning every Hollywood starlet who caught her eye into just as much of a bottom dyke as Dulcinea.

Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

In her own twisted way, Grace found that an easy fate to make peace with. It wasn’t so different from some of her secret and most shameful fantasies. And she believed Dulcinea. Neither one of them had any interest in being cruel or neglectful.

Somehow, Grace had a feeling she was always going to be Dani’s favorite plaything.

“Bye for now, babygirl.” Grace felt the bed shift as Dani stood up. “I can’t wait to introduce you to Bella Kennedy. She’s already halfway there, but I think she needs an extra little push to break up with her boyfriend. I’m sure you’ll know how to give it to her.”

Grace heard footsteps. A few moments later, Dani and Dulcinea were gone and she was left alone in the dark, helpless, as she was slowly brainwashed by her own hypnotic creations. The solitude just drove home how deeply entranced she’d already become. The drugged candles were all around her, pleasure and teasing had sapped all her willpower, and without her sight there was nothing she could use to distract herself from the onslaught of binaural beats and whispered mantras.

This was it. She was being brainwashed.

The irony of it brought a small, sleepy smile to Grace’s face as she relaxed and allowed herself to submit to blissful oblivion.

Regarding the beauty standards topic: I suspect a lot of the people who replied are straight girls lol straight men in Italy would def think she’s quite attractive because of her big boobs and ginger hair (a lot of men here have a thing for redheads 🙄). the venice film festival is a yearly film festival that takes place on the island of lido in venice, showcasing the newest and hottest films of the season that may just be on the oscar ballots later in the year. from elaborate red carpets to wild after parties, having all of hollywood in one place at the same time is simply a recipe for chaos and chaos is a dish best served cold. the venice film festival event will take place for the entire month of february and will be broken up into three parts - the welcome yacht party, the venice film festival + the castelbrando.

DETAILS : after making it through the week of endless press and hours upon hours in heels, the stars deserve a little treat, don't they? the academy is treating all of the attendees to a weekend at castelbrando - an hour outside of venice in the italian countryside. there will be an extravagant and lavish ball celebration in the castle, as well. while the ball event will take place over one night in rp time, the rest of the rooms and areas in the castle can take place over the span of the entire weekend. all will seem well, but there's a catch... DISH OR DARE? : secrets secrets are no fun, unless they're shared with everyone! uh oh, looks like gossip girl got a hold on some dirt on your characters. upon arriving to their bedroom at the castle, there will be a note on their pillow with two secrets about your character - one is true and one is a rumor. and on the back of that note, there will be a dare that your character has to complete in order to keep gossip girl's mouth shut about them. this dare must be completed throughout the weekend at the castle and if not? one of their secrets will be revealed when the clock strikes midnight at the ball. HOW TO PARTICIPATE : the dish or dare secrets challenge is completely optional. if you'd like to participate please submit two of your character's secrets to the main - one secret should be true, and the other should be a completely made up rumor. gossip girl will give you your character's challenge that they have to complete. once your character has completed their assigned dare, please write CHARACTER NAME has completed their dare in the dish or dare channel. if your character is choosing to not complete their dare, please write CHARACTER NAME will not be completing their dare. please note that you will NOT know which secret the gossip blog will release - whether it will be the true one or the fake one will be based on whatever silly lil mood i'm in.
