Ma'am I love my skirts but how...how do you deal with stairs....(brought to you by: My House Has A Staircase And My Life Is In Danger Everytime I Carry My Laundry Upstairs)

Well, in my case: Lift the front when going up; lift the back when going down. Do laundry in modern pajamas. Et voila.

If worst comes to worst and I'm wearing my only fancy loungewear (AKA replicas of Lucille's nightwear from Crimson Peak, because I never make things just for Costume Use), I tuck the skirt and sleeves into the belt of the robe. But that's a more specific fix, I know.

As I understand it, historically, women doing housework sometimes wore shorter skirts- not short, really, but maybe like ankle-length? Though that wasn't always the case. There are other tricks, too, like kicking out slightly with each step up a staircase to get your skirt out of the way. I've used that when my arms were full, to great effect. You can't go very quickly, but you won't tread on your hems.
