i noticed and liked the detail of valerie having a matching necklace w her mom, is there a backstory behind that?

sort of - it'd definitely an intentional detail, meant to be the same necklace. though i actually drew the design for mom first and wasn't sure how to stylize such a necklace yet so it looks mildly different between images. but i figured since the general fandom consensus seems to be that val's mom is dead i thought it'd be nice if val had something to remember her by as part of her character design, chose necklace inspired by alyx vance.

so, like, design-wise i had trouble styling her original gold necklace so i thought i'd change it up - the original gold blended into the yellow of her top a bit much for my liking if i didnt space the necklace and neckline of her top just right, you know? which is annoying when i'm playing it loose with my sketches. so i had to think about what could be a more contrasting necklace design that i might enjoy drawing.

originally it was going to be a cowrie shell necklace, mostly because i like cowrie shell necklaces but also because it's common to see surfers with cowrie shell necklaces in pop culture - because i headcanon that val's mom taught her how to surf, which is why she was able to adapt to the hoverglider so quickly... the issue being, i couldn't remember the name cowrie until just now so i couldn't look up references. but i came across abalone necklaces instead and thought that the colors were nice and in a cartoon state would resemble val's original eye color. which meant it was a nice way to keep turquoise in her palette while also standing out against the yellow and orange of her clothing.

C: What member do you identify with most?

Most of my characters are a mixture of “wow, I wish I could be like that” (for example, confident and not giving a crap what anyone thinks like Knock Out) and “yeah, yep, that’s me” (getting very frustrated over little things like Knock Out).

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

Even though I don’t write kink fics, I read them all the time. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)  (There’s no particular reason I don’t write them, other than I just like writing plot-heavy gen stuff more.)

M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?

Oh man, so many. 

- Bored newspark raised (kinda) by TFP Shockwave and Starscream creates OCs who, through shenanigans, become real and are also the combiner MegaEmpress.  (I know that ‘officially’ the combiner is Megatronia, but …)

- The events at Delphi, SG style.

- BW fic starring the Mutants (from the toyline).  Including Soundwave, whose real name is Hoverglide, but he’s a fanboy of G1 Soundwave.
