oc time again! + her town & culture (heavily inspired by pre-roman italic populations)

she is suri sauthon (later suri laran, after her marriage). her story is linked to my swtor imperial agent, but most of her life for like. the one year away where she meets him, is spent in a town in the mountains of mirial.

despite mirial being cold and desert, and many cities developing underground, her town flourishes thanks to a force nexus, venerated in the form of an ancient, sacred, alive crystal. the ecosystem of that mountain depended on what "the horned crystal" was capable of giving them, but mirialans couldn't live off of that alone, so they developed trade and some rudimental technology, even if oftentimes it was bought thanks to the highly profitable trade of a plant used to make medicines that slowed down aging and had overall healing properties.

note: everything that's generated by this nexus has these healing properties BUT they have to be processed, except for those who bathed in the waters of the cavity under the crystal - the "real" nexus, but not the worshipped one. the waters were sacred but they were not thought to be miraculous, unlike the crystal, who instead was thought of as the keystone of the ecosystem: without it, everything would fall apart (and that is partially true: the cavity was the "real" nexus but thanks to the crystal, also strong in the force, the properties were spread all over the mountains). those who bathed in the cavity's waters - so, all of the town, who had a sort of baptism there - could eat the plant, make whatever food with it, and not only that plant, but everything generated by the nexus, that, again, had similar properties. this allowed people to live up to normal life-spans without advanced medicines or, much, really. to those who didn't live there, though, after the processing, had incredible effects, slowing down aging - for those who took it regularly - and making people able to live up to half a century more than the average]

originally, there were four tribes of nomads that lived thanks to horned farm animals that decided to settle down into one bigger town and other smaller settlements, to live off of transhumance. this division of the tribes stayed into the political and social organization: every person belonged to one tribe specifically, and had slightly different rituals and culture. for examples, each tribe had their own priests and healers, with different techniques and traditions. the town, tho, was guided by a group of people in the high priesthood, a position you could reach only by having earned the trust of all tribes. those high priests had many roles: they guided the people into sacred processions common to all the tribes, they managed the trading with outsiders, they did the maintenance of the temple of the summit (the one that functioned as casket to the crystal) and created a special liquid to offer the crystal that helps it grow.

this particular temple was important because 1. it was very visible, from every angle of the town, and it became an important identity symbol; 2. it stored the venerated horned crystal; 3. it had the altar where sacrifices were made for the crystals. that altar had a hole connected to the cavity, that allowed the liquids to reach the underground; 4. it had various symbols: statues representing each tribe + the high priesthood, and typical mirialan tattoos carved into the wood of the trees that served as columns for the temple, symbolizing 8 values that who dared to enter HAD to have; 5. it was on the way to an important lake (called "mother lake" because the lake the town was built around to depended on the waters of that other lake) where they traveled to in important processions; 6. it was said that a the wizard who unified the tribes made it with its magic, making the plant grow to hold the temple's roof. this wizard was, actually, a force user, obv.

BACK TO HER THOUGH: she's daughter of one of the high priests, who was in charge of managing the trades with outsiders, and lives in a house on the mountains with her mother and him. her parents are from different tribes (that's one of the things that earned him trust from the 4 tribes): when a child is born from two different tribes, they don't pick one to allign to, but they're usually linked automatically to the one with more relatives in it (in her case, the father's tribe: she had many uncles and aunts on his side while her mom only had one sister).

later, though, she got quite tied to her mother's tribe due to a mysterious illness that only her mother's tribe healer was able to cure. she spent 4 years (from 10 to 14 years old) living with the healer and learned her secrets. to better study, she wrote them down. when she returned home, she studied to become a priestess with her father. at 22 (the average age: you can't become priest before your 20s), she was supposed to take a test and become a priestess, but the healer of her mother's tribe died and the tribe asked her to take her place. she couldn't technically do that, but both tribes estimated both her and her parents and she was allowed to become both. she then decided to try to become a high priestess, and became one at 25 (a quite young age). being part of the council, she tried to convince the various tribe healers to unite their knowledges and write them down, and eventually made it. healers still remained tribe based but they now had an "upper, inter-tribe level" similar to high priesthood.

years later, the sacred horned crystal is stolen from the temple by some Hutt mercenaries looking for a profit. given the trust she has earned from all the tribes and the fact that her father is the high priest that deals with outsiders (and she's been hearing stories and advice about it since she was little), she is the one tasked with getting it back. without the growing crystal, the keystone to their ecosystem, the village would have lasted only a few years. in hrr quest, she meets imperial intelligence agent tar'x laran and, as they "solve the mystery" and fight to have it back, they get closer. they'll get married and have a daughter, Vegoia (who's the only one who actually will get to the plot of my story. this was all background)

#i overdeveloped this part of the background. IT'S QUITE LITERALLY USELESS. like. Vegoia will have so few memories of it (she'll become jedi)#i will make a post about her too when I'll finish designing her and outlining her story BUT that may be difficult cuz the frame for the mai #story is quite difficult to match with how developed the other stories are getting and i have to figure it Much Stuff yet #so I'm using these post to like. fix a certain part lf the lore because even my own notes are getting older and messy. better to start over #ANYWAY for those curious & who are still reading (if u exist. WTF THANK U!!); my main story is actually a research file in the jedi archive #BASICALLY i was trying to write my own story for years but then i watched a video (tcw doesn't hold up by sheev talks i think) and i finall #understood how to frame all of these stories together in a way that i feel can add to the star wars lore (because. the others were just #like. okay but who cares unless me? and i did want to have a cool frame that maybe some nerd would be interested in looking into)#so: when ahsoka anakin and obi return from mortis; they tell the council about it (yoda knows about it in s6). sheev talks complained that #it was incredibly full of stuff that was done so poorly it could ruin a big part of the original sw story itself and it was never brought u #again. and honestly i agree. SO my story is about a jedi that is tasked with research on the celestials & by having him figure out stuff i #can minimize/limit/reframe some of the controversial things in there (i love mortis arc so bad but i also agree with his critic. I'll Fix™)#so. many stories will be about people who have previously seen the celestials or have been to mortis one way or another (pre-tcw obv) & hav #had experience & knowledge that the researcher is looking for. so i get to have an anthology with many stories #and have a cool frame I'm intrested in developing + i can experiment with different storytelling styles depending on how he finds out stuff #+ there was another sw story with a similar frame i think? so if i decide to write the story as if it was the file itself and not the searc #i can have even a REFERENCE of what a file like that is supposed to be. genuinely why is there so much misinformation about the guardians of childhood book series?

#Lemme be a toxic fan for a moment bc im so tired and stressed and i need to yell my silly fandom frustrations out to the void #The people saying Jack is fourteen in them. No.#He can manipulate his age from 11 to 18 and is dating a 25 yr old #people still insist that the books are connected to the movie despite there being no possibility for that since 2018 #And like they totally guess what happens in the books #I saw someone try to say that dreamworks were being 'weird' and aged Jack up to ship him with tooth but in the books he was a child #three things: He's not fourteen (see above for age. He's essentially an adult and is treated as such) and is dating an adult #And he didn't make an official appearance in the books until 2018. Six years AFTER the movies release #and thirdly dreamworks aged him DOWN????#Joyce's og idea was an adult with a wife + kids ???#Like what are you talking about #never mind the people insisting that JACK IS 12???? NO??? Where did you get ur information bc wtf???#the movie started production (in 2008) before any of the books even existed (first book was published in 2011)#We have no idea how much of the books they had! The most they had were Joyce's ideas that were subject to change (and boy did they change)#the walking eggs in the movie didn't come from the book (even tho they're in there) they came from Joyce's doodling on notes!#The third book published alongside the movie tie-in books and then days later the finished film premiered at the Mill Valley Film Festival #by the time the second book rolled around (2012) the movie was probably finished and was just getting distributed by paramount and #was possibly even finished in 2011! Four years of production of the movie and then the first book got released #I cannot express enough how much the books are not the source material for the movie. If anything is it's the 2005 short film Joyce made #God it's so infuriating to see people discussing the books like they're the Bible without having read it. that's very reassuring, thank you <3 i've loved everything i posted here so far and have not felt pushed to post anything i haven't enjoyed, but sometimes i forget i can like. use this blog for whatever i want and not *just* headcanons/fics/mets/etc lol. and i also forget i don't have to rush myself. it's annoying to want to write and either not have time or not have the words work. i used to run a fandom blog in my teens that got very large and felt like a chore and i was so stressed about the need to perform and the numbers and all of that. like if a fic didn't do well i saw it as a personal failing and forced myself to write popular headcanons just for the numbers game. was not fun or sustainable in the long run and i think it contributed to me no longer having any taste for the ship i primarily wrote for. so for too long i treated existing in fandom like a job lol. i've mostly gotten it through to myself that this is a space for me, but i occasionally forget when i'm so caught up in all the things i want to get to for this blog. my to-write list is a mile long and i need to be bonked with a paper towel roll, i think. so it's very kind of you to say this bc the reminder is nice <3

Heeeeeeeeeey, can we talk about how both times Green (m) risked his life to rescue his grandfather from Team Rocket, Professor Oak never asked him if he was okay, or checked if he was hurt, or did... literally anything to help his grandson?

In RGB Arc, Green almost collapsed after his fight with Koga. He was clearly hurt and overall not okay - to the point where Red is very visibly concerned about him.

And when he finds and rescues Oak, the first thing he does is ask if his grandfather is hurt; he immediately checks if his grandfather is okay. But Oak never asks him back, instead he sends Green straight on to the next dangerous task (rescuing the people of Pallet Town).

Which, alright, fine. People were in danger and they needed to act fast. But even once the danger is over, we never see Oak show any concern for Green's wellbeing.

Then in FRLG Arc, the same thing happens. Green risks his life to save his grandfather, and when he finds him the first thing he does is check if he's okay. Oak doesn't return the favour and instead tells Green to go rescue more people (this time, Blue (f)'s parents).

Later, after Mewtwo destroys the Trainer Tower, Green literally collapses right in front of his grandfather. And Oak does absolutely nothing to try and help him.

Green clearly isn't okay here - just like Red was in RGB, Blue is very visibly concerned over Green's wellbeing. Meanwhile, Oak just stands there. Doesn't ask if Green's okay, doesn't reach for him to try and catch him or check for injuries. He just stands there (partially out of frame) and watches.

And keep in mind, Team Rocket and the Deoxys clones have left at this point. The immediate danger has passed. There is literally no reason why Oak couldn't or shouldn't make Green his top priority in that moment.

Now compare that to Giovanni's behaviour; despite having only just been reunited with Silver, who is basically a stranger to him, he is 100% willing and prepared to sacrifice his life if it means even the slightest chance of saving his son's life. In the middle of a fire, with airship wreckage raining down around them, Giovanni does literally everything within his power to make sure Silver remains safe and unhurt.

Giovanni, the main Big Bad Villain of the RGB and FRLG Arcs, shows more love and care for his son in the span of a few minutes than Professor Oak, who is treated as a hero by Kanto, has shown his grandson in at least 10 years.

also, the kids found a nest with a dead bird on the ground today, and they started yelling abt it n drawing all the other kids over, so i had to actually switch into the Authority Figure Voice(tm) with them so that they wouldn’t like. literally desecrate its body by kicking it around for funsies

#I just watched the first episode season 2 for the first time in God knows how many years #and it was… fucking genius #not to sound like an old man screaming at clouds #but they don’t make teen dramas like this anymore #like naomi’s big sister jen gets back at naomi by lying to naomi’s boyfriend to get him to sleep with her #and then when Liam realizes that he slept with Naomi’s sister he lies and let’s people think he slept with Naomi’s best friend instead LMAO #and then no one believes annie when she says she didn’t sleep with liam so she calls the cops on the party naomi is throwing #and gets the entire school sent to summer school #and that same night she kills a homeless man in a hit and run #and weeks later starts dating a guy who happens to be the homeless man’s newphew #LIKE? i want to work on art rn but i have like three separate drawings In Progress currently and theyre all at different and frustrating in the process so instead im just gonna keep wasting tjme probably

...... how did all of this start with me just wanting to quickly write down how old a few thg characters were during the last ten games. why did my brain decide i need to figure out for myself how old various other tributes and victors were when they died/won. why am i now here multiple hours later looking at an ugly monster of an excel sheet with 50ish characters sorted by birthday with their ages/ages at death as they correspond to each year's hunger games, another sheet of all 75 hunger games with known victors and their lifespans inserted into it because i wanted to see just the victors but also how much time is between some of the named victors, yet another sheet where i wanted to see how the victors' ages at winning compare to see how common i made each winning age but then i also used that sheet to figure out how many victors made it to different ages (which like btw is kinda depressing bc so many of them didnt even make it past 40), and then fucking finally an excel sheet of what i originally wanted to look at aka the ages of a few characters in the last few games except i included way more characters than i originally wanted to and also started at the 60th games instead of the 65th like i wanted to

#but hey! did you know that thresh couldve also been in annie's or johanna's games? same for katniss and peeta!! isnt that cool to know 😭#or like that you cant say that even just 2 victors survived until age 80 bc it's just a mystery what happened w lucy gray?#and with the way i like made the ages etc of the other victors (bc like none of them have definitive ages or games they won)#not even half of them survive age 45. and that is with me assuming that every surviving victor after mockingjay just -#- continues to live at the very least until that epilogue thingy where katniss and peeta are 33 years old #thats depressing! like sure they may all make it past 25 but then we get to 30 and it just gets less and less.....#completely forgot i was actually making my annie sim while i was doing all of this.......#also came to the conclusion that i actually need to make teen sim versions of finnick johanna and annie too #which im sorta dreading but also so so excited abt #truly amazed at my autism/adhd/whatever tf makes it possible for me to stare at an excel sheet w ages of fictional characters for hours...#should probablyyyyy go to bed now tho......#kind of wanna work on my sim or do more stuff on this excel sheet tho..........#oh yeah idk if anyone even reads this but sorry for my explanation of wtf i was doing w the excel sheets #no fucking clue how to describe what i was using them for lol
