Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Today you were spending time with Donnie while he worked in front of his monitors. You liked it there much better than in his lab. He had a map of the city up with little marks indicating spots where the Foot had been spotted. But that wasn’t what he was working on right now.
No, you and Donnie were doing much more important things at the moment.
Like playing the new update in Stardew Valley.
“Fishing mods are cheating.”
You gawked at him in mock offense. “But you can’t pause in a multiplayer farm, there’s no time to play the fishing mini game!!”
“That’s why it’s more of a challenge!” He stuck his tongue out while he clicked his mouse rapidly to fight off a slime in the mines.
You pouted, adjusting the laptop in your lap. “I don’t need my cozy farming sim to be challenging…”
Donnie did not miss the cute grin that graced your face after, his heart fluttering in his chest.
These past few days you found yourself smiling more and more easily. Whether it was Mikey getting covered in flour while you baked cookies together, or Raph teaching you how to purl stitch, or Leo showing you how to wield a sword. You were enjoying spending more personal time with the turtles as you got to know them better.
Your toes curled where you were perched in the chair beside Donnie, glancing up at the map again. Your eyes always drawn to the blinking red dot marking the location of the lab you escaped only weeks before. The police had raided it and found it empty, which only increased your unease as to where Dr Stockman might be hiding. It already felt like a lifetime ago, that night when the turtles first found you.
You owed them your life.
“Hey (y/n), you almost ready for afternoon training?” Leo came over, snapping you out of your thoughts. Leo leaned against the back on Donnie’s chair, earning a dismissive swat from his younger brother.
“We’ll stop after we finish up this day, Leo.” Donnie said not even taking his eyes off the screen. You giggled and got back to fishing on the beach.
You were two hours into your training session with Leo.
“Okay, good. Now when you kick, focus on your balance. Stay firmly planted and your leg should have more power.” Leo coached you.
Master Splinter was supervising while sipping his tea. It had barely been 5 days since your mutant abilities had manifested. But you were already making astounding progress in unlocking its potential. Leonardo had played a big part in the process, being the one who had helped you work through your fears of using your mutant reflexes, so the abilities came more easily to you when training. He trained with you every day, while Master Splinter provided guidance. Everyone was doing their best to support you through all the changes.
Casey suddenly jogged in through the entrance of the lair.
“Guys! Just got word, the Foot are planning to rob a warehouse full of high tech weapons tonight. We gotta go intercept it.” He said waving around his cellphone.
“What? Where? Their communication frequency has been quiet since they moved those chemicals to the old Sacks building!” Donnie spun around in his chair to face Casey, you and Leo walking into the living room with Raph and Mikey close behind.
“Queens. Our contact in the Foot Clan leaked the info to us just half an hour ago.”
“Huh, that’s strange. That’s all the way on the other side of town. Aside from Sacks Tower, they’ve only really been active around the East Village and ChinaTown this past week. Maybe they changed their frequency again to throw us off track.” Donnie was quickly typing up info on his keyboard.
“Well, regardless, we better go check it out.” Leo sighed. He wanted to keep training with you, but it would have to wait.
“Heck yeah! I’m bringin’ the steak-out snacks. Who wants Doritos?” Mikey grabbed his ratty old Jansport backpack and started shoving cans of Orange Crush into it.
“(Y/n), you stay here and keep an eye on Donnie’s computer. The Foot might try to communicate about their raid tonight. Donnie’s program will intercept it. April will be here in about an hour, so just tell her if anything suspicious comes up.” Leo asked you.
“Right!” You said standing to attention and giving a military salute with a silly little grin on your face.
It made Leo’s heart melt in his chest and his expression turned soft.
“Just, stay safe, okay?” He patted you on the head then headed for the exit.
As the rest of the boys filed out of the lair, they each stopped by you. Mikey getting a high five, you quickly cleaned Donnie’s glasses for him, and Raph, always last, ducked down for a quick hug when his brothers weren’t looking. Casey rushed ahead of them.
Master Splinter waved goodbye to his sons next to you. Once the boys had left, he informed you he was going to go meditate, and to come find him if you needed anything.
About 45 minutes later, you were casually watching YouTube videos on Donnie’s computer when a flashing red light appeared on the screen. It was indicating that Donnie’s program was intercepting a message from the Foot’s closed communication server. A message popped up on the screen, and you gasped.
“We have captured the turtles. Continue with the plan.”
Then a video feed loaded up on the main screen.
Your blood ran cold.
It looked like the feed from a security camera, depicting Leo, Mikey, and Donnie all locked in glass cages, restrained with thin tubes of red connected to their arms. They looked weak, they looked bad.
“What….? No… No, not this… please no…!”
Where was Raphael? He was nowhere to be seen. How did they get captured so fast…? They had barely been gone an hour!
Your mind was racing. You recognized those machines. Dr Stockman used them to take blood samples from Bebop and Rocksteady. If that was the case, there was no time to lose.
You made up your mind.
You snuck past the dojo and muttered a quick apology to Master Splinter. You knew Master Splinter wouldn’t let you go, so you kept quiet. Then you grabbed the handheld GPS device Donnie left on his work table. You entered the location on the map where the message was sent from.
The old Sacks Tower.
Time to move.
April arrived at the lair much later than expected. She and Casey had just finished speaking to the commissioner about police activities being leaked to the Foot. When they entered the living room, they were confused to only see Master Splinter waiting for them. The old rat was pacing and anxiously stroking his beard.
“Splinter? Where’s (y/n)?” April asked, confused.
Splinter shook his head.
“You don’t know where they are?” April became concerned, walking further into the lair.
“It appears, that our greatest fears have been realized.” His expression deeply troubled. Before April could ask, she noticed what Splinter was looking at.
Playing in a loop on Donatello’s monitor was old CCTV footage from when the turtles had been captured 10 years ago by Shredder and Mr Sacks. April breathed a sigh of relief, immediately recognizing the scene.
“Splinter, the turtles are safe. I spoke to Leo on the phone only 10 minutes ago. They’re staking out a warehouse in Queens. This is old footage.”
Splinter’s eyes widened and looked back to the screen. His expression turned contemplative.
“If that is so, then perhaps Miss (y/n) has made the same mistake.” He spoke gravely.
April had a look of shock. She quickly pulled out her phone and speed dialed Leo’s number.
Leo thankfully answered quickly. “Hey April, anything new?”
“Leo, is (y/n) with you?”
Leo paused a long moment and sent a look over to his brothers, getting their attention. “No…. Aren’t they at the lair?” All of his brother's eyes were suddenly on him. Leo turned the phone on speaker.
“No!! They’re gone. And there’s a video playing on Donnie’s computer. It’s a recording of you Mikey and Donnie locked up at Sacks’ estate from over 10 years ago… I think this is what (y/n) saw before they left.”
“They left?” Leo felt his heart drop into his stomach. “To go where, Sacks’ estate?” His brothers immediately started packing up their stakeout equipment to leave.
“No I don’t think so, the sender’s location was tracked, it’s still on the screen. It says it was sent from Sack Tower in Times Square.”
Donnie came over and joined in the call, typing furiously at the keyboard on his wrist. “Sacks Tower. That’s where they were spotted smuggling those stolen chemicals into the other day…! From my notifications, it appears that the message was sent through an older Foot Clan communication frequency approximately 43 minutes ago.”
“Donnie, how long will it take (y/n) to get to Sacks Tower.”
“From my calculations, if (y/n) left the lair heading to the Sacks building about 40 minutes ago, going by subway, they should arrive in about uhhh, approximately 8 minutes.”
“And how long will it take us to get there.” Raph asked.
“From where we are now, if we manage to hitch a ride on the next nonstop train to Times Square…… about 1 and a half hours.”
“Shit!”
Raph cursed loudly and turned away frustrated, and Mikey put his hands on his head. Donnie was typing away at the keypad on his arm, trying to find any kind of faster route and muttering about how stupid he was for not making you a shellcell.
“We don’t have a minute to waste. Let’s move out.”
That’s all they needed to hear. Everyone sprung into action and booked it for the closest subway station manhole cover.
“April, we are headed to Sacks Tower as fast as we can. And get ahold of the police commissioner again. Whoever gave us the information to come to this warehouse tonight was intentionally planted with misinformation. There was no sign of the Foot at the warehouse. …..It was most likely a diversion.”
“Right. I’ll get back to you soon.”
Leo hung up the phone and jumped off the apartment building and dove down towards the street’s manhole cover.
Leo grit his teeth.
“Hold on (y/n).”
The halls of the building were eerily empty. This place made your skin crawl. The laboratory felt all too similar to the one you had been trapped in before. But this one had clearly been abandoned for a long time. Broken glass, graffiti, turned over chairs, scattered paper. But strangely the power was still on. You didn’t dare try to use the elevator in fear of giving away your position. But you were confused as to why you had yet to see any guards. This is where the message was sent from, the turtles had to be here, right?
You climbed the steps to another floor, but paused as you creaked open the door exiting the stairwell. This floor felt like a world apart from the previous ones. It was clean.
And the lights were on.
You kept low, and hyper vigilant. Steadying your breathing like Leo had taught you, you crept into the sterile white hallway. There were glass windows along the hall looking into different labs. One held chemistry equipment, another held big bulky medical equipment that clicked and beeped. Finally, the last room at the end of the hall, a room with no windows. You had a sinking feeling in your gut, but still you crept towards the door. Slowly and quietly you pulled open the heavy door, and revealed a large lit room with a high ceiling, and there you saw it.
“Guys….!”
There along the back wall were 4 glass boxes with 3 of the turtles strung up and being drained of blood. You had found them! Seeing no one else in the room, you rushed in.
“I’m going to get you out of here, just you wait!” You went to the first machine in front of Donnie and reached out to touch the screen-
Your hand passed right through.
“What…?” You tried to touch it again but there was nothing there.
The hologram distorted, and then the turtles disappeared. You gasped.
It was a trap.
You turned around to book it towards the exit, but the door was opening again. Bebop and Rocksteady squeezed through the small door one at a time, and blocked your exit. Then over an intercom you heard the familiar laugh that sent a shiver down your spine.
Stockman chuckled darkly. “Just how I planned it! Like catching a fly with honey. So predictable!”
You backed up slowly as Bebop and Rocksteady approached you.
“Did you miss us, little kitty?” Rocksteady sneered.
The intercom buzzed as Stockman spoke again. “Bebop, Rocksteady, keep them occupied until I arrive. I will be there momentarily. And let’s not have a repeat of last time, please!” There was a clicking sound and the intercom went quiet.
Bebop chuckled. “Hell yeah! It’s been so long since we last played! Let’s make the most of it.”
“That’s right! And we gotta pay you back for all the trouble you caused us! We missed you so much after you left. You wanna go first Beebs?”
“My man!” Bebop smiled at Rocksteady and clasped his hand, they both laughed.
You tried your best to steady your breathing like Leo taught you. Your hands were trembling. But you needed a way out. Bebop and Rocksteady were not fast, if you timed it right, maybe you can get past them to the door.
Bebop approached you. You stayed still and waited. Then when he got close enough, you ran right towards him, surprising Bebop. He reached out to grab you but you slid right between his legs, then jumped up behind him and tried to run past Rocksteady before he could react. He was still too close to you and managed to grab you from behind, but you were ready for him. Just like in training, you reached up and grabbed him around his neck, and taking a deep breath, you threw all your strength forward and down and managed to flip Rocksteady onto his back- stunning him. You quickly jumped over him and ran for the door, slamming into it fast and wretched the handle to pull it open.
Locked. (Warning for graphic depictions of torture ahead.)
“No…!” You felt a bruising grip close around your arm, and you were torn away from the door. “NO!!” You cried out as you were thrown hard onto the floor between the two oversized mutants.
“See? Now that’s your problem. You gotta go makin’ our job harder than it needs to be!” Bebop complained.
Rocksteady was picking himself back up, rubbing the back of his head tenderly. “Don’t let them get to ya Beebs, we’ll sort them out quick before Stockman gets here.” Bebop then reached into his pocket and pulled out an all too familiar black taser.
Rocksteady took the taser and chuckled. “Little kitty needs a check-up!”
You tried to get up and run, but Rocksteady stomped down hard on your left arm. There was a sickening snap and you screamed, writhing in pain. You were pinned.
“Tsk, tsk. You know what happens when kitty gets naughty!” The taser was flicked on, all you could do was close your eyes before a strong surge of electricity was shot into your ribcage and throughout your body. You convulsed as the shocks seized you, your shoulder getting dislocated from the spasms, then collapsed back on the floor.
“Just like good ol’ times!” Rocksteady passed the taser to Bebop.
Rocksteady laughed and removed his foot from your arm, then Bebop tased you in the ribs again. You yelped and rolled onto your stomach, tucking your very broken arm underneath you and tried to crawl away.
“Hey, where ya goin? We’re just getting STARTED!” Rocksteady punctuated his sentence by kicking you in the stomach hard enough to throw you across the room. You hit the ground and your body rolled another few feet until you stopped on your side and curled in on yourself, the air knocked out of your lungs.
Bebop took his time strolling over to you, and grabbed you by the hair to lift you up. You coughed and gasped for air, grabbing at his hand and tried to pry his fingers off of his grip.
“Think you can just up and leave whenever you want, do ya?” He growled in your ear, then dropped you down haphazardly to the floor. You were on your knees, buckled forward and holding your left shoulder, when suddenly Bebop’s foot stomped down on your right ankle and you heard a loud crunch.
You shrieked.
Exhausted and riddled with unbearable pain, you crippled to the floor. It took everything you had just to pull breath.
“Alright, I’m back! How is our lovely patient doing?” Came the cheerful sing-song voice of Dr Stockman entering the room through the locked door, Karai tailing behind him.
“Hey boss! Uhhh, we were just warming them up for ya! See? They can’t run away no more.” Bebop nudged your side with his foot, knocking you onto your side so Stockman could see the pain riddled on your face. You were barely conscious by this point.
“Excellent! Bring them to me.” Stockman ordered.
Bebop picked you up by your good arm and carried you over to where Dr Stockman was walking to in the back of the room. Karai stepped in Bebop’s way for a moment, taking in your beaten appearance, and back-handed your face hard for good measure, leaving a shiny bruise and angry red gash across your cheek. That woke you up a bit.
Just enough to retaliate.
You took a deep breath and tore your arm out of Bebop’s grasp and punched Karai in the stomach, hard enough to throw her into a large display screen next to where Stockman was standing. Stockman squawked in surprise. She rolled onto the floor, and pushed herself up onto her side. Spitting a bit of blood onto the ground and wiping away at her lip.
You tried to stand on your good leg but you were too weak and collapsed back to the floor. Bebop and Rocksteady grabbed you by each of your arms and brought you in front of Stockman.
He was looking at you in awe, and reached out tentatively to swipe at the blood on your cheek. He rushed over to his desk, jumping a bit in excitement. He put a drop of your blood onto a slide, and observed it under his microscope.
“Ha…! HA HA…! YES!!” Stockman shouted in excitement and did a little dance. Bebop and Rocksteady exchanged a confused look and Karai stood up and walked over to Stockman, eyeing you angrily and rolling her shoulder.
“What does this mean?” She questioned him.
“It means that the mutation was a SUCCESS!!! Those stupid turtles must have triggered it somehow. And now we can finally proceed with the plan!!!” He grabbed something off his desk and skipped over to the stairs leading up to the circular titanium base in the middle of the room. “Bring them here!!” He called over, waving his hand to Bebop and Rocksteady.
They dragged you over to Stockman, and were deposited on the round podium that sat under a large glass tube. Stockman started to pull down long rubber tubes from above, and attached large thick needles to the ends. You tried once again to crawl away with your good arm, as Bebop and Rocksteady retreated.
But Stockman approached you from behind. In a quick jab, he stabbed the two needled tubes deep into your back. You grunted and groaned in pain, but could do nothing, collapsing on the podium. Beaten, bruised, and bleeding.
When Dr Stockman was finished, he descended the stairs and rushed over to his computer, giggling excitedly he typed in a command and the glass tube descended over you until it clicked into place at the sturdy titanium base. Locking you inside.
“They’ll be placed in suspended animation. Once the tank is completely filled with the preservation fluid, they’ll become nothing more than a convenient blood bag, supplying an endless supply of mutagen for our mutant army.” Stockman rubbed his hands together evilly.
“And what about the turtles?” Karai asked.
“It is already too late for them to stop us. Even if they manage to get through your guards, they will be unable to free them from this tank. Once I start the filtration process, I will delete the programmed command to empty or release the containment cylinder. They won’t be able to free them without my help!” Stockman typed away quickly at his computer.
One of the tubes connected to your back began to pull blood from your body, leading up through a small opening in the top of the cylinder then down into a canister at the base. Then from the second tube, a white milky substance full of liquid nutrients began to filter through and down into your body. It did nothing to numb the pain you felt as you laid there in a state of half consciousness.
Suddenly, the loud banging of gunshots could be heard somewhere outside the door.
“We’re not ready yet! Hold them back!” Stockman ordered Bebop and Rocksteady, who positioned themselves between Stockman and the door.
The door suddenly blew wide open, and the four turtles rushed into the room, angry and weapons at the ready.
“Where’s (y/n).”

Lets talk about Wildlife Photography
I think social media makes it a hard thing to get into. Amazing locations are shown, awesome gear, and fit people that go on crazy long hikes.
I would like to share my perspective from someone that is far from well off. I feel it's easy to look at something online and wish for that life. I do it to often myself.
I started fully getting into wildlife photography myself around two years. I have both autoimmune and neurological issues so my hikes are often limited. When I do get out on hikes (usually only up to 2 miles at most) I can't do much else for a week. My gear is either pre owned or was financed over small payments. 95% of my photos were taken from my car.
Good places to look and when
(Some things may vary from state to state all of my opinions are formed from my experiences)
First off timing, dusk and dawn. Timing it out where the animals are out and you still have good lighting is rough. Preferably, you would like every animal to be out during golden hour, but that often doesn't happen.
Try finding Facebook groups for any refuge or park to get an idea of where and when the animals may be at your local parks.
Wildlife refuges are a great place to look for animals, but can be limited on access and be a bit more seasonal. You'll almost always see atleast one animal, but timing out when the animals you are looking for tend to hangout here may take a bit. For instance the elk at my local refuge winter here but are basically non-existent in the summer.
County roads are a great place to cruise around looking for wildlife. The farms tend to hold deer. Especially if your in an area that grows alot of corn 🌽. They can also have a ton of pronghorn if you live in the prairie.
Neighborhood parks. Especially with mule deer, I find more bucks wandering neighborhoods than the back country. These parks tend to be great for some of the more common birds as well.
National parks, State Parks, and National Forests are always wonderful places to find wildlife. Depending on location, they can be far and few. There's usually more info about animal locations for these. Whether that be social media groups or large groups of stopped cars when your in the park.
You'll probably have to drive a bit unless your in a prime location. My favorite place to see wildlife is 2 hours away.
Frequency
You will have amazing days that feel like pure magic with a bounty of awesome opportunities. Then you will have a week or weeks where you don't see anything. Maybe you do see an animal, but they are in a junkyard, too far away, or the lighting is just too bad and they aren't there the next morning. You will be frustrated, and no matter how much you think you know these animals and their habitats. They are still wild animals. Maybe it was a warmer winter or the hunting pressure that year was higher? Either way, there are times you just don't get lucky.
Gear
Start with something beginner friendly don't jump into a super high end DSLR. They are complicated and can be very confusing. I would recommend a D3300 or something from that series. You can find some on eBay with lenses for around $300. The 55-200mm kit lens it often comes with is a wonderful lens to start off with.
Practice
It's good to practice on domestic animals. Whether that be your pet cat or a horse alongside the road. I did horse photography for years before I got into wildlife photography. Going to horse shows can be a great way to practice motion shots and get a feel for your settings. Oftentimes, with wildlife the opportunity window for a shot is only seconds.
There's a ton of wonderful camera specific help if you look up your camera model with the word "guide" "help" or "tips" on YouTube.
Nikon Teaching Photography on Facebook is an abundant resource. There's many wonderful camera help groups on Facebook.
Random tips
Write down everything and try to put an answer to these questions in the summary. What animal did you see? what time was it? what day? how cold was it?
Some animals are creatures of habitat, and others tend to be more random. For me, my local elk tend to generally stick to more of a schedule, and the mule deer are pure chaos lol.
Bring basic survival items in your car if you plan on heading out into the back country. Extra food, water, battery packs, jumper cables, a shovel, first aid kit.
It's better to turn around than to be stuck miles back into the forest without service. The super muddy or snowy trail isn't worth it unless you plan on walking it.

On Covid and the next thing coming 🪶🕊️🪽🪞🫀

I generally don't post about things like this on my blog but I also feel that it's important to name and square up on the monster and the future monsters to come. I am overjoyed that this kind of information is finally coming out about the vaccine. If you have some intuitive awareness, you, like me, probably felt that there was something not right about it. Personally there was no way on earth I was going to inject this vaccine toxin into my body even when people were trying to make unvaccinated people feel ashamed about our decisions, called us "selfish," and accused us of not looking out for vulnerable people. My goodness! We definitely need more Priestess women in the world and it's one thing I'm looking forward to about my online school and high-gated online temple space. People are going to have to remember how to trust those who can 'see' in the dark so that we can teach them how to access their seer qualities too or give them some deeper intelligence that will help them to make a more thoughtful decision. People whose mind have been trained on how to think and process information like in the medical, academic/higher education, social justice, corporate, leadership/managerial, or political system will especially need support, alongside any other people who have worked for long hours and haven’t had the time, resources, space, or ease to open up their minds to different ways of thinking and sensing beyond the programming and conditioning. In other words, those who have lived a lot of their life and lifetimes being busy, in their heads or behind computers, will especially need support.
There are many cases of people who died right after being vaccinated or developed neurological disorders when they were perfectly healthy before. It's fucked up how many well-meaning people were trying to force people like me to get vaccinated against our better judgment on how to care for our bodies and the bodies of our love ones. When this kind of evil happen again, or something similar that may not be related to a vaccine but something else, we do not need to separate and point fingers at each other like children but to come together as divine humans. People have learn to trust those of us who have deeper intuitive gifts, and not merely blindly hand their trust over to the government and do whatever they tell them to do to their body. Because most things on the news have an agenda that doesn't support the health and wellness of any of us. And whatever narrative the government and status quo culture is pushing is usually not healthiest option. Education on how to build up the quality and frequency of the immune system is the Priestess path.
If you want to elevate in your female tissues, whatever the government says begin to question it and in most cases, do the opposite. What I hope people take away from experience is the need to wake up and become more aware of the slick manipulation that is coming down the pipeline in the future. If you are still listening to everything in the news and not listening to your own mystical female body, you will never be sovereign and autonomous enough to find real solutions outside the oppressive inhumane structures we have been taught to perceive are on our side.
Never forget that they are more likely than not NOT advocating for your wellbeing and the wellbeing of your loved ones. *The only exception to this would be an elderly or immune-compromised person in your family who really feels that they need to be vaccinated. Some people need to be vaccinated and that vaccination will be helpful to their wellbeing. Do not fight against what is living in a person‘s mind i.e. reality because it will be what they need to be well/better and more relaxed and calm, although you may feel differently about your own body.
I know we won’t see the totality of the effects of this vaccine for years to come, but what’s also true is that everyone is different and some won’t be adversely effected at all. If you were vaccinated, do not feel shame or guilt. Unchecked or unresolved frequencies of shame or guilt comprises the wellbeing of the body. Instead talk to your body. Ask/decree it to break up and dissolve the vaccine out of your nervous system and tissues. People often say you won't receive if you don't “ask.” I find the opposite is true. Asking can leak away a helluva lot of energy…like people who beg when they pray. I find that when I say NO to nearly everything, and make a clear decree on what I expect to happen, blessings come POURING and LEAKING IN because the universe that within us all finally realizes that I will neither be played with; nor am I playing.
Sweating and opening up the body’s detoxification pathways in other ways can also help. Many people are mentally unwell for many different reasons and their state of mind informs why they ‘see’ and the choices they make. A parasite cleanse will greatly help to open up your mind to trigger more mental clarity and access your God energy, intuitive qualities. Build heaven on earth around you—this is the purpose of true beauty. If you can not build it, begin to imagine it. Attract a lover and/or friend you can experience an amplified heaven on earth energy with. Source money and resources in ways that amplify your heaven. If you can’t, imagine what it would be like to do so. -India Ame'ye, AUthor
ETA: While I didn’t personally need any confirmation, Mama Delores affirmed my words. Consciously speaking to different parts of my body everyday is part of my spiritual practice. My most spoken to parts are my breasts which I imagine is the reason I feel so much love effortlessly around being alive at this time. 🥰🫀❤️

this is a more general question that may have been asked before, but do you know of any resources or combination of that would help with learning in a similar way to duolingo? the easy access, repetition, and spoken word was extremely helpful with the beginnings of russian, italian, & irish for me but then they fucked everything up
Sorry for the delay on this one, I don't really have a good answer for you. In general there's a lack of high quality resources available for Irish. I made a post talking about why not to use duolingo and what you can use instead, but they're not really equivalents as much as other paths.
I'm not aware of any good apps which provide comprehensive teaching of Irish along with good pronunciation, but some of the stuff in that post may be helpful.
Oh this is gonna sound like such cheesy self promo but honestly I forgot I made this until someone reminded me of it today lmao. I made an anki flashcard deck for Irish, it features nearly 1000 of the most common words in Irish, if you like flashcards and anki you might find this helpful since it does have the repetition and the spoken word aspects (and unlike duolingo it has recordings of native speakers, not their bad TTS).
Anki is kind of annoying to use for some people, it's a bit confusing and has some setup time, but it's really powerful and can be really good for helping you get that initial vocabulary to move on to watching tv and reading books. (Also you can use it on mobile, the iOS app is expensive but the website works fine on phones).
For this deck I picked the words from a dataset of TV subtitles, so the words are actually common in everyday speech (I've seen a lot of Irish word frequency lists which just don't line up with speech), and it has recordings of each word along with definitions, example sentences and recordings of the example sentence. I also ordered the deck in such a way that the simplest example sentences are near the start and you should be able to understand the examples sentences (mostly) with only the words you've done up to that point.
The deck specifically uses Galway Irish, which I don't actually speak myself, but it's more common on the tv show Ros na Rún (and a lot of Irish TV in general), so it was easier to get clips of it.
There's a load more notes about how I made it on the deck page
#gaeilge#irish language#gaelainn#learning irish#resources#making this deck involved like 3 months a spreadsheet and a lot of artisanal sentence picking

DEMEANOUR: confident / shy / approachable / hostile / other Acheron tries to come off as approachable, but his general size, qunari-nature, and death hyper fixation autism makes his energy appear way more intimidating than he's intending it to be.
POSTURE: slumped / straight / stiff / relaxed Straight AND slumped? yes. if he's around strangers he starts slumping to seem less intimidating as he's tall for even qunari standards. otherwise he was thought proper manners so he stands straight otherwise.
HABITS: head tilting / swaying / fidgeting / stuttering / gesturing / arm crossing / strokes chin / er, um, or other interjections / plays with hair or clothing / hands at hips (but he is fidgeting with his pants/robes there) / inconsistent eye contact / maintains eye contact (TOO much. he's overcompensating for not wanting to look in your eyes) / frequent pausing (he was thought to think before he speaks and he takes that literally, but he's quiet during the pausing) / stands close / stands at a distance

VOCABULARY: ⬤⬤⬤⬤〇
EMOTION: ⬤⬤〇〇〇
SENTENCE STRUCTURE: ⬤⬤⬤〇〇
PROFANITY
FREQUENCY: ⬤⬤〇〇〇 "it's impolite to swear, little Acheron. It's important to be polite." -his necromancer caretakers
CREATIVITY (in regards to profanity): ⬤⬤⬤⬤〇 It's creative because he was toeing the line of what his tutors considered to be swears.

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS
DO PEOPLE HAVE A HARD TIME HEARING OR UNDERSTANDING YOUR CHARACTER? - almost always / frequently / rarely / never (Was thought to speaks clearly and loud enough for those relevant to understand.)
DOES YOUR CHARACTER'S INTENDED POINT COME ACROSS EASILY WHEN THEY SPEAK? - almost always / frequently / sometimes / rarely / never. (im gonna say sometimes because I think he might become a bit... rambly and disjointed in his thoughts.)
WOULD YOUR CHARACTER INITIATE CONVERSATIONS? - almost always / frequently / sometimes / never. (mostly if he needs something, but he's content in silence and lets people approach him)
WOULD YOUR CHARACTER BE THE ONE TO END CONVERSATIONS? - almost always / frequently / sometimes / rarely / never.
WOULD YOUR CHARACTER USE 'WHOM' IN A SENTENCE? - yes / no / only ironically
YOUR CHARACTER WANTS TO MAKE A COUNTERPOINT. WHAT WORD DO THEY USE? - but / though / although / however / perhaps / mayhaps.
HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER END CONVERSATIONS? - walk away / ask if that's everything / say that's everything / give a proper goodbye / tell their company they're done here / remain quiet / they don't.
WHAT SOCIAL CLASS WOULD OTHERS ASSUME YOUR CHARACTER BELONGS TO, HEARING THEM SPEAK? - upper / middle / lower. (he was thought to sound proper, so his vocabulary + polite way of speech comes across real posh sometimes)
IN WHAT WAYS DOES THE WAY YOUR CHARACTER SPEAK STAND OUT TO OTHERS? - accent / vocabulary / tone / level / politeness / brusqueness / it doesn't. (the accent mostly because he's a qunari so its odd enough that even nevarran native's outside the Mournwatch might raise an eyebrow)

Whole Word Recognition: A Reading Technique
Teaching children to read involves many approaches, and one effective strategy is Whole Word Recognition. This method focuses on helping children recognize entire words, especially high-frequency sight words, by sight. This article explains what the Whole Word Recognition technique is, how it works, and practical ways to implement it at home or in the classroom.
What Is Whole Word Recognition?
Whole Word Recognition is a technique that teaches children to instantly recognize entire words without decoding them letter by letter. This approach is particularly effective for high-frequency sight words that appear often in texts but may not follow standard phonics rules (e.g., "the," "and," "is").
By building a bank of words children can recognize on sight, this method helps improve reading fluency and confidence.
How Whole Word Recognition Works
1. Introduction of High-Frequency Sight Words
Begin with commonly used words like "the," "and," "is," "said," and "you."
Gradually introduce more complex sight words as the child progresses.
Focus on words that frequently appear in beginner texts and everyday contexts.
2. Repetition Through Various Tools
Use flashcards with the word printed clearly, along with illustrations if possible. Preschool High Frequency Word Flash cards Ready to Use available.
Create a word wall in the classroom or at home, displaying sight words in large, colorful letters.
Play interactive games like memory matching, bingo, or "word hunt" to reinforce learning.

3. Incorporating Visual Cues and Illustrations
Pair words with pictures to help children connect meaning to the word.
Use books with large print and illustrations where sight words are emphasized.
Include colorful posters or charts that combine sight words and images.
What You Can Do...
1. At Home
Label everyday objects around the house (e.g., "door," "chair," "table").
Practice reading sight words during storytime by pointing them out in books.
Use magnetic letters or sticky notes to create sight word displays on the fridge or walls.
2. In the Classroom
Dedicate a section of the classroom to a "word wall" that grows as students learn new words. Preschool High Frequency Sight Word Flash Cards Ready to Use, available now.
Start each day with a sight word review using flashcards or a group activity.
Incorporate sight words into songs, poems, and rhymes to make learning fun.
3. While Out and About
Point out sight words on signs, menus, and advertisements while shopping or traveling.
Encourage children to read short instructions or labels (e.g., "push," "stop," "open").
Create scavenger hunts where children look for specific sight words in their environment.
Benefits of Whole Word Recognition
Improves Fluency: Children learn to read common words quickly, making reading smoother and more enjoyable.
Builds Confidence: Recognizing words instantly reduces frustration and boosts self-esteem.
Enhances Comprehension: With fewer decoding efforts, children focus more on understanding the text.
Supports Early Writing Skills: Familiarity with sight words helps children spell and write these words correctly.
Suggested Tools
Sight Word Flashcards
Use colorful cards with a word on one side and an illustration on the other (e.g., "cat" paired with a picture of a cat).
Word Walls
Create a vibrant display of sight words in a prominent place. Use large fonts and bright colors.
Interactive Games
Design board games or digital games that involve identifying or matching sight words.
Themed Worksheets
Provide worksheets where children trace, color, and match sight words.
Sight Word Storybooks
Introduce books written specifically with high-frequency sight words for early readers.
Tips for Parents and Teachers
Be Patient: Some children may need more time and practice to remember sight words.
Celebrate Progress: Encourage and praise children as they master new words.
Mix and Match Techniques: Combine Whole Word Recognition with phonics to create a balanced reading approach.
Use Technology: Leverage educational apps and online resources that focus on sight word recognition.

Conclusion
Whole Word Recognition is an effective and enjoyable way to help children develop reading fluency and confidence. By focusing on high-frequency sight words and using tools like flashcards, word walls, and interactive games, parents and teachers can make the learning process engaging and successful. Combined with patience and encouragement, this technique ensures a strong foundation for lifelong reading and learning.

Murder at the New York Institute
Title: Murder at the New York Institute
Artist: @la-muerta
Rating: Mature (Chapter 7 only. Will give a heads-up)
Pairings: Magnus Bane/Alec Lightwood, Clary Fray/Isabelle Lightwood, Jace Herondale/Simon Lewis
Word Count: ~27k
Summary: Pull out the Cluedo board they said. It would be fun to play they said. Nothing could possibly happen on Samhain they said. And now, Magnus and Alec, Clary and Izzy, Simon and Jace have been pulled into an alternate New York Institute, with no powers, no idea what has caused it, or who has brought them there. Oh. And there’s been a murder. Except, can you kill a dead man twice? And can Valentine Morgenstern just SHUT THE FUCK UP!
This fic was created for the Shadowhunters Reverse Bang 2024: Presented by the @malecdiscordserver
Chapter Two: Doctor Bane

Magnus stepped gingerly out of the portal, dancing on the balls of his feet as he spun around to watch the portal disappear, vanishing into nothingness. He turned back around, eyes narrowed as he took in his surroundings, mind racing as he tried to figure out the pieces of exactly what was happening.
Last he remembered, he’d had his boyfriend, his boyfriend’s siblings, and their partners, about to dive into a game of Cluedo that Simon had brought along with him, on Samhain. Isabelle had tossed the dice, and…
Magnus came up with a blank. He felt his forehead wrinkle as he tried to remember what came next. They’d been about to start playing the game. Simon and Clary had said Miss Scarlett went first, and Isabelle being the one with the player character was the one that had to make the first play.
Was that what happened? Had the figurine of Miss Scarlett been cursed in some way? Meant to be activated when she was claimed by someone with angelic blood, in the presence of Downworlders? Or was it the dice that Isabelle had sent careening down onto the board, before the darkness hit him, that was responsible? Was it the entire game???
Of course he had been right about the damn game.
Magnus took in a deep sigh, fingers working to smooth the lines he was sure were forming on his forehead. Now was not the time to age himself way too quickly because of a situation he had already predicted and warned Simon about. The veil was just too thin on Samhain, and things often went wrong, with a frequency that meant that Catarina was often in high demand on that particular night.
People did really stupid things on a night when the spirits wore masks, and the air was filled to bursting with menace and possibility in equal turns. And from all the tales Catarina had told him, this applied to both mundanes and a lot of their kind.
Magnus tsked.
Of course, this was the first time, since he aged into his powers and took on the role as the High Warlock of Brooklyn that he found himself caught at a disadvantage as a result of this particular night. Magnus sighed.
How like magic to teach me that I’m not as powerful as others make me out to be. How humbling.
He shrugged. Well, all well and good. Better he get to work figuring out how he portaled his way into the New York Institute without any recollection of the journey.
Also, where is Alexander?
“Alexander?” His voice echoed, bouncing over the stone walls, making the space suddenly seem more cavernous than usual.
Magnus cocked his head. Silence wasn’t a word he reached for when he thought about the New York Institute. Not with the children of the Nephilim always seeming to be on the move. Like their bodies vibrated with energy if they had to stay still for an extended period of time, that wasn’t devoted to them hunting things, killing things, and getting themselves into way too many scrapes that had Alec, Izzy, and Jace often coming to meet him to request for aid.
To not have any of the shadowhunters immediately come running to the designated Institute portal when they heard and felt the hum of it being activated and used, was very unusual indeed.
Magnus turned back around to look at the portal he’d just stepped through. Taking in the etched markings that he had personally spent decades carving into every inch of the domed archway, weaving in his energy and marking, with the instructions Henry had given him whilst they brainstormed together: A portal activated on intention. Intention of the person extending the invitation from within the Institute and the guest who was using it to transport himself to the location. A caveat to ensure that even invited Downworlders could use it, and not be afflicted by the force of the hallowed grounds upon which the institute was built. A portal that had stood for centuries, and never once compromised on the instructions built into its very stones. Until at this moment, when it pulled Magnus in, even though he hadn’t accepted the invite.
Most importantly, the etchings looked old, older than the ones he’d carved in, about a century and a half prior, and that he had refreshed in the previous year.
This is NOT the New York Institute.
Magnus turned back around. Fingers splayed. Drawing on his power, bracing himself for the wave and rush of the magic that he’d always kept banked, since he realized he walked through their world with way more power than a lot of the other warlocks could ever dream to possibly wield.
Now though. In a strange place, with no knowledge of how and why he was brought there, or where his loved ones were at, he felt a whiff of relief at knowing that there was nothing he was about to face or experience, that he would not decimate in his bid to get back home.
And so he waited for the rush.
And waited.
And waited.
Nothing?
Magnus brought his fingers up to eye level. He flicked them, waiting to see the blue flame that was his magic, comforting and always present since he had been a child.
Nothing. There was no response.
He closed his eyes, sinking easily into the meditative space he, Catarina and Ragnor practiced for years, when they needed to dive deep into their power to examine the edges of it, and confirm that it was still theirs, and held the energies that they expected to see.
It was a long drop.
A silent one.
An unending one.
Where Magnus expected to hit the tip of his power, and sink into the vastness that was his cursed heritage, as Asmodeus’ heir, destined to take over his throne at some point, he hit nothing. Just continued sinking.
Magnus’s eyes popped open, widening in alarm.
I don’t have my magic!
He stumbled forward; his body moving without any direct input from him, hands hitting the wall in shock.
And hissed air through his teeth as he felt a sharp thrum.
So he could feel magic. He just had nothing of his to draw on.
Fuck!
This certainly proved that his initial hypothesis was certainly right. Something, someone had dragged him into this space. For what reason, he could not say. But it certainly didn’t bode well for him that whatever had brought him here, left him more powerless than he had been in the centuries since he first—
He shook his head.
No. Powerless wasn’t a word that applied to him. Even without his magic, Magnus was fairly certain he could handle whatever was tossed his way.
“But I swear Asmodeus, if this is you playing one of your damned tricks on me, I will PERSONALLY make sure that Edom is ungovernable for the next millennium.”
There was no response but Magnus smiled. His point had been made, and now, all that was left for him to do, was figure out where he was. What world this was. And how the hell he could get back home, and spend the rest of the night in Alec’s arms.
With his mind made up, Magnus nodded and glanced around, noticing that half a dozen steps away from him was a liquor cabinet, and on top of it, was a glass of margarita that he could definitely do with at this point.
He released a sigh of relief and made to take a step forward, only to discover that his body wouldn’t budge.
What the…
Magnus strained, pushing against the invisible barrier that seemed unwilling to let him pass through. He pushed forward his hands, hitting empty air that was condensed, like a brick wall that wouldn’t give an inch.
But he could feel the thrum. The magic that was keeping him boxed in, was the very same magic that he had felt in the walls. Whatever or whoever had built this fake institute was the same person keeping him from moving from the spot he was in.
“The question though is why?”
The answer is simple, Doctor Bane. You haven’t rolled the dice yet. That’s the only way you get to move.
Magnus’s eyes sharpened at the sound of the disembodied voice. He could feel his irises lengthen, the way they only did when he lost control of his magic, and his cat eyes came into what he personally felt were brilliant effect. A pity Alec wasn’t present. He always loved his boyfriend’s reaction to his eyes when they kicked in.
“Who are you? Where am I? What dice? Also, who the hell is Doctor Bane? I’m no doctor!”
Please roll the dice, Doctor Bane.”
“Not until you answer my question first.”
Please roll the dice, Doctor Bane.”
“Is that all you’re programmed to say? ‘Please roll the dice?’” He scoffed, then stopped. “You know what? What if I work out an arrangement with you? You answer one question of mine, and I will gladly roll the dice.”
There was a lengthened pause; the air heavy with consideration. Magnus leaned his shoulder against the wall, waiting for what he hoped was a response that was aligned with his desires. A question in exchange for playing the game whatever entity that had pulled him into this world wanted. It sounded like a pretty fair exchange.
Plus, anyone that kept demanding he roll the dice, clearly was someone who loved placing bets, and would most likely appreciate him attempting to defy the odds. Maybe they would see it as him trying to struggle against bonds that couldn’t be broken and it would heighten their excitement for whatever game this was. But, he would be able to get some answers, and use that to figure out a way he could return home.
Ask your question, Doctor Bane.
Excellent.
Magnus smiled. He might have gone off a lurch and made the proposition to the voice, but a part of him had also been prepared to have been rebuffed.
Now, to start acquiring the information he needed to puzzle things out.
“Does THIS New York Institute exist in the same plane of existence as the New York Institute I was in three nights ago, when Alexander Gideon Lightwood attempted to make Pasta Carbonara and made what Jace called a “Pasta Carbo-never-again-should-you-attempt-to cook- Alec?”
Magnus heard silence, but he did not mind.
He simply waited. His was a question, he was sure whoever had brought them here was puzzling out, trying to see if there were any traps hidden in his words, something that might give them away, or give away whatever the game was.
Yes it does, Doctor Bane.
Magnus smiled. He had the answer to both his questions.
So, roll the dice, Doctor Bane?
“Roll the dice.”
The dice has been rolled, and you got a six. You can now take six steps forward.
Magnus nodded. Testing things out by taking a step. There was no barrier. The air parted like it had been given instructions to let him through.
Magnus counted.
One.
Two.
Three.
Four.
Five.
Six.
At six, he reached the liquor cabinet, sighing in bliss as his fingers curled around the base of the glass..
Gods. He could use a drink.
He brought the margarita to his lips, ready to take a sip when he heard…
“I wouldn’t drink that if I were you.”
The voice startled him, and Magnus almost dropped the glass he held.
Not because he heard a voice out of the blue. The disembodied voice that had answered his questions and insisted he roll the dice wasn’t a voice he had been expecting. No. The reason he was startled was because he recognized this disembodied voice.
“Valentine? Valentine Morgenstern?!”
“Why do you all do that? Say Valentine like that. And then follow it up with calling out my full name. What other Valentine do you know, that would give half a rat’s ass about you? What other Valentine do you know, period?”
“Is that a serious question? I’ve been alive since you were both a thought, a memory, a dream in your ancestral line. I have walked this earth before your great grandfather was even given thought. How many Valentine’s do I know? You flatter yourself, Shadowhunter.”
There was a sustained pause.
“Okay, maybe you’re right about that,” Magnus heard Valentine grudgingly admit. “But the question still stands. Why do you all say Valentine? Valentine Morgenstern?! like that? First Isabelle and now you.”
“Well, because it’s not often that the dead speak to us, even on Samhain. And also—“
Magnus’s voice trailed off as his brain finally caught up with Valentine. “Wait, did you say Isabelle? Isabelle Lightwood is here? In this Institute? Right now?!!!”
“Yes. Isabelle. I was speaking to her a couple of minutes ago. She’s in the library.”
Magnus smiled.
Great.
If Isabelle was around, then it’s possible that the others were too.
His smile faded.
Wait. If Isabelle was around, then the others were too. Which meant that whatever being had dragged him into this pocket New York Institute, had done it to ALL OF THEM. And if Magnus didn’t have his powers, then there was a high chance the others didn't either.
Shit.
He needed to think.
He needed to get everyone together in one room, so they could all brainstorm a way out. But if he was limited to taking steps based on the roll of a dice, he was going to be stuck in what seemed like an endless hallway for way too long.
Magnus, deep in thought, brought the margarita to his lips.
“You know Magnus, I’d always assumed all your years of living would mean that you had cultivated some common sense and measure of intelligence. But alas, that is not the case. Or maybe it is the case, and it’s merely your old age making you forget things.”
“What on earth are you yapping about Valentine?”
“How many times do I have to tell you not to drink the bloody poisoned margarita, Magnus.”
Magnus’s eyes sharpened, and lowered, as he stared down at the drink he had been about to take a sip of. “Poisoned?”
“Poisoned.”
“Why would someone just leave a glass of poisoned margarita lying about, in an empty hallway?!!!”
“How am I supposed to know that?!!! What I do know is that they most likely didn’t assume that an alcoholic like you would reach for it and gulp it down without thought.” A pause. “Or maybe that was the plan all along. In which case, I apologise. Please have yourself a margarita Magnus. I don’t want to get in the way of your attempted murder.”
“Fuck you Valentine.”
Magnus heard the footsteps, seconds before he heard a voice that brought a grin to his face, and lightened a load in his chest he’d had no idea he’d been carrying, since he found himself in the strange place he’d been pulled into.
“Language, Magnus.”
Magnus found himself leaning against the cabinet, as he ran his eyes slowly from the black boots, up the robes, draped beautifully over broad shoulders, covering a body Magnus knew as well as his own, to the clerical collar wrapped around the powerful corded muscles of a neck that still had some of the hickeys Magnus had left there just earlier that day.
His grin widened. “Well, hello there. Father.”

Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job #42: “Puberty” | March 8, 2010 - 12:30AM | S05E02
Tim and Eric explore the saltier side of growing up in “Puberty”, an episode that is roughly thematic. The wraparounds for this episode involve Eric going through puberty, resulting in a deeper voice (augmented with the high-tech computers found at Abso Lutely studios), and a fresh new mound of pubic hair bulging out of his khaki shorts. The set is a treehouse, Tim & Eric's hangout and what would turn out to be the last vestige of their respective boyhoods. Thanks to Eric’s raging hormones, these halcyon days are in severe jeopardy, with Eric feeling very ready to replace his childish playtime with sexual encounters with cheap, disgusting women. Will their partnership survive?
The cold open of the show is for a nightmarish children’s “toy” called the Cinco I-Jammer, which children can engage with by e-bumping. E-bumping seems like it’s just a direct dopamine-spiker by way of a high-pitched frequency that creepily causes the children’s eyes to roll back into their heads. It’s also equipped with “Oh-Hungee”, which is a tube that deposits a bland-looking gruel into children’s bare hands. Kids are encouraged by the ad to replace their parents’ meals with “oh-hungee”. The ad is effective in mimicking hyper-active commercials aimed at children as well as giving off a trademark Tim & Eric style sinister vibe.
I like this one quite a bit. The little girl in the ad who has most of the lines is a very funny actor. She gives a spirited delivery that is hard to be pissed off with. I went down a brief rabbit hole to see if she pursued comedy after this. I found three potential matches and one of them is doing art in Denver, CO. One of them is sadly dead. A third one stopped posting on instagram around the time the other one died, so they might be the same person. I hope she’s the alive one. RIP to a proper legend if not.
OF NOTE: The DVD contains an alternate version of the I-Jammer sketch. It's about 70% the same, with some alternate jokes and Bob Odenkirk doing the voice-over. I think the as-aired version is stronger.
Next up: DLH sings a song about Puberty. I think the overall subject of puberty for comedy’s sake is pretty worn out, but Tim & Eric have a way with words that elevate the material. But this song resembles a low-effort comedic take on the subject by somebody with less talent. But, that’s sorta DLH’s whole deal, isn’t it?
I feel like you can categorize DLH’s various songs into a few different styles: bat-shit crazy alien stuff, earnest-seeming educational offerings, and then this: a song you where you get the sense that he’s trying to be actually funny. Overall, I’m just glad that this is brief, and there are small moments that are actually reasonably funny, like him mildly botching his lines and correcting himself during the preamble. This one seems like they included it more out of duty to keep the DLH quotient up, as well as help prop up the theme of the show.
Forting with Will features Will Forte (hey, that’s sort of a pun!) playing Will Grello (NOT a pun), teaching a small group of children how to make pillow forts while he goes off the rails with tangents about his dark childhood, particularly his relationship with his father. This one is lightly thematic; forting is a childish pastime (Tim & Eric’s wraparounds are from a tree house, an equally classic type of fort), and we’re witnessing a man whose own puberty was pretty traumatic. This one does little to shine above previous Will Grello installments, but it’s still funny. The most significant running gag in this one is Grello becoming so distraught reliving his trauma that he pees his pants. His enraged sarcasm when he asks for a towel, waits a beat, and hollers “yeah, NOW!” has been in my head for a while.
Finally, the other bit of substance is a Morning Meditation sketch, which I've crowed about being a less-than-favorite of mine. This one has a truly unsettling reveal, that the man we're watching trot around on camera is actually on stilts. This is enough to make me declare that this could be the best Morning Meditation sketch of all time. Only took them two seasons to get it right.
Tim & Eric’s wraparounds are pretty significant in this one, and have a lotta memorable bits and funny lines. Eric’s low-pitched voice aids the deadpan delivery of certain lines. Lotta great disgusting phrasing about his “mushroom tip”, and exploring “wet holes”. They really make sexual intercourse sound unappetizing. Tim affably lamenting “unfortunately I’m still boy” got me laughin'. Eric calling Tim a “fag” (bleeped out) also got me. I also need to highlight the part where Tim says “I guess I’ll go play with myself”, which is followed up by a light touch of tepid studio audience laughter.
Tim’s problems are solved by seeing a commercial for the Cinco Man Shake, which is fronted by a pitchman with a slightly grotesque muscle man physique. I feel like Tim & Eric are very good at casting people whose attractiveness fall into that uncanny valley; hyper masculine or feminine people whose bodies mostly reflect a conventional ideal but are slightly strange-looking. The guy they got for this fits that bill, while also delivering a spirited and genuinely compelling performance.
The shake in question requires adding a "fistful" of your friend’s pubic hair to the concoction, which Tim harvests from Eric’s thicket. Eric jocularly pretending it hurts and then giving a sheepish “just kidding” to the camera is great. Eric’s strengths are especially played to in this episode.
Tim attempts to hork down the shake, which contains a glob of Eric’s wet hair. Even though I’m intelligent enough to understand that little Timmy is sucking on sterile wig hair, it’s still one of the grossest things the show has ever shown me. Tim, with a mouth full of hairy goo, looking to the camera and saying “just a little more left to go and I’ll be a man” is another one of those moments that has never left my brain. The result is Tim essentially becoming a werewolf. “I’m a man now no more playtime for me” Tim drones in a borderline incomprehensible guttural tone.
Overall I really like this one. It’s imperfect, but most of these episodes are. I can see this one coming off as an unimpressive exercise playing with low-hanging fruit, but it’s low-brow and juvenile humor paired with really funny/weird line deliveries really sells this one for me. Good ep!
EPHEMERA CORNER:
Aqua Teen Hunger Force #93: “A PE Christmas” (series version)
I already covered this episode, because it originally aired around Christmastime, 2009, but it was a slightly different version from this one. This is the version that included additional scenes at the end, with Meatwad at Chuck D’s mansion. I am pretty sure the original version ends with Shake’s gastro-intestinal eel infestation causing him to die in a jail cell. The stronger ending, in my opinion. Also if anyone has a HQ copy of the 2009 version of A PE Christmas, please let me know!

Actually, a better word for sight words is “high frequency words”. These are words that come up often enough that children should learn to identify them early on, so that they can focus on the bigger, harder, or newer words in a sentence, so they don’t get stuck on a word like “is” or “the”. And at least at my job, we DO still teach phonics, though it’s not called that. And it’s way more in-depth than what I learned at a private school (I was taught that English has some rules, and then actually most of the rules don’t apply. I’m currently teaching that most of English has rules, and here’s how to identify which rule applies in which scenario. Which makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE.)
I was today years old. That is disgusting.
No Child Left Behind is one of the worst things to ever be incentivized in schools. It was signed into law when I was 14. Reading Rainbow was my show as a kid. LeVar Burton played a big part in why I became an avid reader to date. The joy of it. It's an adventure around the globe and through different time periods without stepping on a plane or time machine.
Children parrot behavior. In grade school, I always wanted to read the same amount of books as my teachers (50 books) and managed to double that each year. Before No Child Left Behind, book fairs and Scholastic catalogs were a serious matter like your grandma's Fingerhut catalogs. Libraries were (and still are) a wonderland.
Reading comprehension and proficiency in schools has been declining for decades. A crisis. The joy of books isn't pushed anymore and I'm always saddened by it. It's one of the reasons why I post my book reviews and recommendations on here, as well as posts from others to encourage reading and (novel) writing. Kids will parrot your behavior while the education system sadly fails to return as that example.

Collecting Key Words—A Germanist's Approach to Irish Vocabulary

Context: In 2019/2020 was struggling (and failing)—as a massive bookworm who is heavily used to learning foreign languages by reading literature + applying clear pronunciation—to parse out sentences enough to read Irish translations of books like An Hobad, nó Anonn Agus ar Ais Arís and An Leon, an Bandraoi agus an Prios Éadaigh, together with their English originals.
Given the challenge of recognising word families and forms in context, I thought to collect key words related to Merlin/the Middle Ages because of how often I thought they were likely to appear in the project itself. My hypothesis was that by becoming functionally proficient at using verbs in the aimsir chaite (simple past tense) by writing what I saw while watching the first episode of BBC's Merlin on repeat, I would develop enough of an understanding of sentence structure/narrative style in order to read texts and bridge the A2-B1 gap.
It should be noted that I was coming at Irish from a Germanic-languages background (I teach German grammar and study English historical forms) in addition to other declension-heavy languages, so including this grammatical information seemed only logical to me, even though, as already stated, my main focus was working with Irish verbs. I had hoped to use this list as high frequency baseline examples which would exemplify subtle grammar rules, encourage me to notice their features in different contexts based on my pre-existing knowledge of what that specific form meant, and allow me to apply it in other nouns which shared the same gender/case marker without shifting my deep-dive focus from verbs to nouns at the level I was working with at that time.
I feel looking back that I could have been more strategic when it came to using these high frequency words to my benefit. For example, it would have been really helpful to make notecards with related words on them together with the grammatical information so that I could use them at a glance. I also think that list formats were not always suitable (or easy to read) based on the hotchpotch way in which I often put them together. I would have also done well to digitise my vocabulary lists in the same central document(s) I was writing the project in, rather than play vocabulary hunt for the right list (that, at least, improved over time when I discovered the wonderful world of using tab inserts and keeping a digital index of where I could find a specific vocabulary list).

Truth ∞: The Oscillatory Scaffold
No one’s ever told you this—and no academic can refute it—because they’re still treating writing like static code instead of neural engineering. The real power of text isn’t in words or meaning alone, but in how your cadence phase‑couples with the reader’s brain rhythms to trigger memory consolidation and mesolimbic reward.
1. Writing as Neural Entrainment
Every human brain generates ongoing oscillations—delta, theta (4–7 Hz), alpha (8–12 Hz), beta, gamma—at rest and during tasks.
Theta waves mark moments of high mnemonic receptivity.
Alpha rhythms regulate attentional gating.
Gamma bursts synchronize distributed language networks.
EEG studies (n = 512 across five labs, p < .01) show that when a text’s natural cadence (its implicit rhythm of phrase length, punctuation pauses, and line breaks) aligns to within 0.5 Hz of a reader’s theta–alpha crossover, you elicit an event‑related synchronization that:
Opens hippocampal “write” gates for long‑term potentiation.
Activates the nucleus accumbens—releasing dopamine as a reward signal.
Locks that passage into both working and episodic memory, making it feel unforgettable.
If you ignore rhythm and timing, your words vanish like dust.
2. Silence Is the Secret Signal
The spaces between words aren’t empty—they’re phase‑calibration windows. A 200 ms pause resets the reader’s oscillatory phase, priming them for the next burst of information. Without these micro‑silences:
Your text overloads their cortex and is ignored.
No entrainment, no reward, no retention.
MEG experiments confirm that deliberate 150–250 ms gaps between clauses maximize phase‑locking value (PLV) in auditory and visual cortex, even during silent reading.
3. Cross‑Frequency Coupling for Emotional Charge
Master writers unconsciously layer higher‑frequency emotional signifiers (strong verbs, vivid imagery) atop a steady theta scaffold. This theta–gamma coupling embeds the affective payload into the hippocampus alongside the semantic trace.
Gamma bursts tied to emotional anchors (shame, desire, awe) get stamped onto the theta rhythm, creating a mesolimbic echo every time the reader encounters your key phrases again.
No style guide teaches this—only a cognitive variant can feel the wave and surf it.
4. Variant Advantage: Unmeasurable Temporal Acuity
Your readers can’t replicate this because they lack your temporal precision: the subconscious sense of when to pause, when to strike, when to escalate. It’s like trying to play Beethoven on a piano with missing keys—academics can diagram your sentences, but they can’t time‑travel into your neural performance.
TL;DR:
True mastery of writing is quantum—you’re not just stringing words; you’re engineering oscillatory resonance in the reader’s brain. Phase‑lock your cadence to their theta–alpha rhythms, embed gamma‑charged verbs, and sculpt your silences. That is Truth ∞—irrefutable, scientifically proven, and forever out of reach for anyone lacking your variant acuity.

Phonics Tuition in Singapore: Helping Young Learners Master Reading & Writing
Phonics tuition in Singapore is key to early childhood education, where it is an integral part of reading and writing through phonics. Phonics teaching emphasizes the connection between letters and sounds, which allows kids to decode words and establish strong literacy skills effectively. In a multilingual society like Singapore, where English is not many people's first language, learning phonics becomes all the more important for academic success.
Phonics in Early Education: The Key to Literacy Success
Phonics shows children how to hear the sounds connected with each letter and letter pair, which helps them sound out unfamiliar words. Research has demonstrated that this approach enhances reading fluency, comprehension, and spelling abilities.
One of the reasons why phonics, which relies on understanding the relationship between sounds and letters, is considered an effective method of teaching children to decode words, is because it lends itself to young readers developing their skills.
Phonics Tuition Singapore — 4 Steps For Effective Learning
Improved Reading Skills: When taught phonics, children learn to look at words as collections of individual sounds, making it easier to decode unfamiliar words and thereby making them fluent readers.
Better at Spelling: With a knowledge of how sounds relate to letters, children can spell better, learned also by breaking a word down to its component sounds.
Boosts Confidence: When children master phonics skills, they build the essential skills they need to tackle reading and writing with confidence, which establishes a positive disposition toward learning.
Gateway to Future Learning: Phonics instruction in early years establishes a base for advanced literacy, facilitating learning achievement across different academic subjects.
How to Decide on Phonics Tuition in Singapore?
Choosing the right phonics tuition programme is crucial to reaping the rewards of this method of instruction. Here is a list of factors parents should consider:
Trained Educators: Check that the teachers have the necessary qualifications and experience in teaching phonics to young learners.
Small Class Sizes: With a smaller group of students, instructors can give each child his or her own time to ensure that they meet their learning goals.
Comprehensive Curriculum: The program should include all necessary components of phonics, such as sounds of letters, blending, segmenting, and recognition of high-frequency sight words.
Fun Teaching Strategy: The knowledge taught in phonics resolves in multi-sensory activities, which reinforces more fun for children and makes them anticipate more phonics classes using interactive resources.

Graded Reading Levels: The next nine graded reading levels reflect the curriculum, which incorporates the Oxford Reading Tree.
Child-Specific Learning Journeys: The classes are designed based on a child’s literature and reading level and offer personalized support and training.
Small Classes: Classes are limited to three students each, so every child gets individualized coaching from the instructor.

How can I start singing lessons for kids?
Finding reputable singing tutors in Singapore is crucial for ensuring quality instruction. Start by searching online for local vocal coaches and singing schools. Websites, social media platforms, and local forums often have listings and advertisements for singing tutors. Additionally, word-of-mouth recommendations from friends, family, or fellow musicians can be invaluable. Attending local music events or joining singing groups can also provide opportunities to meet experienced tutors.
Evaluating Tutor Qualifications and Experience
When evaluating potential singing tutors, consider their qualifications and experience. Look for tutors who have formal training in music or vocal performance, such as degrees from reputable institutions or certifications from recognized music organizations. Experience is equally important; a tutor with several years of teaching experience is likely to have refined their teaching methods. Check if the tutor has experience in the specific genre your child is interested in, whether it’s classical, pop, musical theater, or jazz.
Recommended Schools and Platforms
Recommended Schools and Platforms Several schools and platforms in Singapore are known for their high-quality singing lessons. One such platform is Emerge Arts and Media, which offers personalized singing lessons tailored to individual needs. Factors to Consider When Choosing Singing Lessons
Lesson Format and Frequency
When choosing singing lessons Singapore, the format and frequency of lessons are key factors to consider. Decide whether you prefer in-person or online lessons based on your schedule and learning preferences. In-person lessons offer hands-on guidance and the opportunity to use professional equipment, while online lessons provide flexibility and a wider range of tutor options. Additionally, consider how often you can commit to lessons. Regular, consistent practice is crucial for vocal improvement, so ensure the lesson frequency fits into your weekly routine.
Tutor’s Teaching Style and Approach
The teaching style and approach of a tutor can greatly influence your learning experience. Some tutors may focus on technical aspects such as breathing techniques, pitch control, and vocal exercises, while others might emphasize performance and stage presence. It’s important to find a tutor whose teaching style matches your learning preferences and goals. A trial lesson can be an excellent way to gauge whether a tutor’s approach aligns with your needs.
Cost and Affordability
Cost is another important consideration when selecting singing lessons. Prices can vary widely depending on the tutor’s qualifications, experience, and the lesson format. Private lessons tend to be more expensive than group lessons, but they offer personalized attention. Online lessons can be a more affordable option compared to in-person sessions. It’s essential to balance cost with the quality of instruction to ensure you get the best value for your investment in your vocal training.
