According to T.S Eliot, “Only those who will risk going too far, can possibly find out how far one can go”. Now, what explains this act of risking? What makes it inevitable? “Life is not a bed of roses” saying it in other words “life is a bed of thorns” or simultaneously that “life is like a battlefield”. Everyone has to take certain decisions in life; it may be education, career, business, relationships... And the list is never ending. Making decision in such point of time becomes difficult, especially when it is a choice between where you should be and where you want to be. Remember, courage and confidence is what decision making is all about. A recent study from Colombia University found that we are blogged down by more than 70 decisions a day. 90% of all purchase decisions are made subconsciously. Surprising, isn’t it? ‘The act of taking the first step is what separates the winners from the losers’. Here, the act of taking first step is decision making which also implies that it is the deciding factor for one’s success or failure. But the big question is, How to make a right decision? How do you know if your decision is right or wrong? Well, the answer to the above question is that you already know what you really want. When you are not sure and need to make a decision flip a coin. Ask me why? Because when the coin is in the air you suddenly realize what you are hoping for. Further you may ask me how you know if your decision is right or wrong. I say, How will you ever know if it’s the right decision if your never make it? Why making the right decision is important?

Peter.F. Drucker rightly says “Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision”. Making a big life change is pretty scary. But you know what’s even scarier? Regret. It is important to make a right decision so as to not to regret. Right decision made on right time gives fruitful results. People end up regretting after they do something which wasn’t decided, rightly planned and blame their luck, without realizing the fact that they made a wrong decision in the past and therefore facing the consequences in the present. They fail to understand the fact that today’s decisions are tomorrow’s reality and life today is a collection of choices made yesterday. It is important for a pilot to take right decision at the right point of time. He is not only responsible for the lives of hundreds of passengers on-board but also for the giant flying machine worth million dollars. It is equally important for a surgeon to decide rightly what to be done because he is chargeable for the loss of a precious life. An infantry officer in the army has to carefully decide in utilizing and positioning his troops, for his command means life and death to his soldiers and an officer cannot afford to lose his men, because in war there is no prize for runner –up.

How to take Right Decisions:

Step 1: Analyzing the situation- Analyze the situation from the perspective of both the ends. To avoid confusions try inputting your plans and figure out what would be the result. You must be able to differentiate between good, better and the best. Step 2: Limit your choices- One of the common decision-making mistakes we commonly make is to give ourselves a lot of options. So it is better to limit our choices. Step 3: Trust your decision and finalize- Excellent leaders often say that they go with their gut to make decisions. Make yourself an expert in your field and your intuition will be your best guide.Trust your decision and keep going. As I told you earlier toss a coin to hear your intuition. That nagging little voice inside you gives the best answer. A decision is said to be made only when it is implemented. So be bold and wise to make a decision. Be bold in implementing it than just making a mere decision. Everybody has enthusiasm unfortunately not all of them got endurance which is the prime factor in order to achieve success. I would like to conclude with a famous quote by Adolf Hitler and it goes- “Think a thousand times before taking a decision but after taking a decision never turn back even if you get thousand difficulties”.
