I mean, it won't really do much for most people but I'm curious if his party knowing he's read the original novel, something which is static and can't be updated, will change their opinion at all since that's different than potentially being a prophet and having your future knowledge update as changes are made by you.

At least I don't think Dokja can get updated information. There was a small scene in chapter 204 where the Fourth Wall was able to tell him something that he didn't know (that someone was watching him right then and who it was). If it could potentially tell him other things...

Except that just results in kdj creating both him and the current yjh, neither of which would have happened if he didnt sent kdj out in the first place thus resulting in all of his problems.

- Secretive Plotter also sent out hsy#2 to his round and she ended up becoming one of the things that caused the entire story to happen to begin with. Thus resulting in both his existence and all his problems by extension.

a big part of orv is realizing there is no “unworthy of love” you are worthy of love just like everyone else and there are people out there who love you, who would do things seemingly impossible for you to realize that people do love you. it’s probably unhealthy but yjh and hsy just decided they didn’t want to heal without kdj. yes their happiness is important but they’re just as concerned for kdj’s happiness too. they fucking break the world just to give kdj the chance to actually truly heal from everything together with the rest of them.

personally i believe it’s beautiful of them. after everything that’s happened, after everything they’ve been through. after everything they’ve seen, each other’s good and bad. they are able to look at each other and go. “i see what you have done for me. you have hurt me. i have hurt you. but at the end of everything. you too, are worthy of love. you too, are worthy of enjoying the happiness you’ve fought so hard to give us. the scars you hold aren’t holding you back from that luxury. you can heal alongside us.”

i think that orv is just so cosmic that it puts things out of proportion. normally you wouldn’t need so many sacrifices, if you did it’d become concerning. but they’re in an apocalypse where the world is dying and you’re up against the literal universe and death is always around the corner and you are not able to stop your loved one from sacrificing himself countless times because you are smaller and weaker and he is bigger than the universe, and the world would not be standing without him. idk if you are able to even heal from trauma when the trauma is currently happening. if the scenarios never happened and yhk met each other in a normal, regular world, i think they could be similar to what leverage ot3 was described as by that anon.

I feel like it's not an outright framework against the traditional constructed system of classifying media but rather a critique about how it's not always best to solely rely on the author's intentions but rather a mix of both(like not all interpretations are gonna be correct as well too, like you said thats delusion)? and honestly it's interesting because orv also sends the message to not be overly reliant on escapism. This ain't even an ask lmao idk where i'm going with this but yeah

Yeah you're probably right I'm not really a theory expert so my experience of death of the author definitely isn't in directly trying to interpret Barthes' assertions but like seeing how other people have interpreted/applied his framework in their own works. Like I think because I'm a fandom guy and not an academia guy I see a lot of people misinterpreting death of the author or applying it to their experience of like commercial lit/storytelling. I will say tho I am like a mega liberal in terms of what I consider 'literature' because I think folk/pop literature is really special and important to me. Took a lit class once where I argued that a gas station receipt is literature.

That being said I def get that Barthes' in context is critiquing a status quo of his time like you say, and I don't disagree at all that like ultimately lit analysis needs insight from reading the text as well as attempts at understanding the author behind it. In terms of tragedy/the delusion, the aspect I was focusing on is more like the literary/thematic element of death of the author as a tragedy if that makes sense? Bc like while it's cool that source texts are so much easier to find/document in modern storytelling traditions, there's still this mythos/feeling of a story that gets so big it leaves the hands of the author entirely to become its own thing. Like I love humans bc that's the kind of thing that started religions and pantheons in the past, stellar, love how powerful stories can become and the ephemeral nature of true origin in that case, but again the power the story has is then no longer in the hands of the author once the story is viewed by a reader, which is why in ORV KDJ is the one running the universe on his subconscious lol.

Like bc of that evolution of author death in modernity though, like based in the reality of webnovels like ORV as commercial texts that get reinterpreted and transformed by translators and fans over and over again with anonymous authors we might not know much of anything about, the delusion I'm speaking of is that some of those millions of readers may not think of author intent at all and just view the finished work as a Product, something consumable. This is what I meant by apathetic delusion when I got into the part you agree with here of readers who only see text as an outlet for their own escapism.

The feeling you have of 'mix of both' is exactly what I'm trying to convey by the "impossible communication." Because text is ultimately speech, storytelling is conversation, it is an attempt to communicate from one author to however many readers. The writing on the wall idea from ORV is very related to this in that you are trying to convey this thing that you are not sure anyone will ever see just in hopes of one day being understood or seen by others, even if you'll never see those others or know how your words affected them. This is why I felt that orv's emphasis on text as Relationship between author and reader.

i think the way i see yhk as sun moon star respectively is that;

yjh is the sun, in that most things revolve around him in the story, esp in ways of survival (since hes the protagonist.) its bright and loud, and in dynamics where the sun is involved, the sun character is typically more optimistic about things, and i see yjh as more of an optimist/idealist despite how he looks and sounds.

hsy is the moon, shes the author and essentially created yjh. people remember that the moon revolves around the earth, but it also revolves around the sun too. the sun and moon are always tied to one another, and hsy and yjh have that same connection. the creator and the creation.

kdj is the star, the reader that watches it all happen. stars also evolve into black holes, consuming everything around it, which reminds me of and is kind of how i see the oldest dream. there are many, many other stars (readers) just like him, which i percieve as the kdj fragments aka. all of us readers that read the story. also, when it comes to kdj and yjh and their connection, since yjh is the sun, they are both stars and incredibly similar to each other.

… what if. what if lee hakhyun doesn’t know why he’s saying things in star writer because he can tell his actions don’t feel like his own. what if he can feel himself being puppetmastered by someone else. [this part is a complete leap in logic and more of a fun what-if than actual theorising] but what if the being puppeteering his actions is a future version of himself, writing those very words. so it is him, but in a way where it isn’t

what if, right now, lee hakhyun is only getting information from kdj’s novel because it was something HE WROTE and because he WROTE HIMSELF into being the reincarnation of 49 kdj. what if he’s only the reincarnation because lee hakhyun’s whole deal is that he transmigrates into the character he’s writing, and now that he wrote orv in a different worldline he has to complete star writer’s own rules of living from the protagonist’s viewpoint.

what if this is just another ‘effect writes cause’ situation, same as yjh regresses -> hsy writes -> kdj reads -> yjh regresses

there’s already a stable paradox in star writer’s worldline being older than orv’s, why not THIS TOO

while i can see the differences between star writer and orv lhh, i feel like there could be SOME connection especially since star writer was explicitly brought up as something lhh wrote (ill talk about this when i finally get that next episode summary up it's still in the drafts) though they are still separate works so i'm not expecting it. idk where it is but singshong did say in some interview that they came up with the idea for orv after star writer failed (something about writing about a reader instead of an author) and.. now he's back. and thank god he's back i wouldn't have found my blorbo without the side story

image 7: orv epilogue spoilers but it's, ... one thing that haunts me the most about the epilogues is it isn't clear in ch 543 between hsy and ysa which one has the iced americano and which one has the peach smoothie. i think either is possible and i need to know. it's important to me // like it doesn't matter it does Not matter but i think a stupid amount about it. my kneejerk assumption is ysa has the americano and hsy has the smoothie to contrast their personalities(y'know) but also the reverse is equally as likely EITHER WORK FOR ME. AND I JUST I GOTTA KNOW // ysa probably has it. shes described twice in the novel drinking coffee and she's very much a coffee type character. but it specifically being an ICED americano i'm like hang on that's more specific and more palatable to someone who doesn't like coffee cuz it's a shitton of water // it's also simply "iced Americano" there's no mention of like milk sugar syrup or anything which doesn't mean it isn't there but most likely it's straight. but ysa offers to buy Her a drink and it would be a very hsy move to make her buy an expensive smoothie over a cheap coffee // BUT hsy seems like the type that would get coffee just for the caffeine because her life is a fucking nightmare. but idk if she would get it black since she seems to have an affinity for sugar. she'd def Add milk /& sugar but at that point i think she'd be more of a latte person // but ultimately i just think it'd be cute for hsy to have the peach smoothie. i like her

Han Sooyoung is a very strong ENTP as well which is all the explanation you need for her horrible personality /gen - I have no idea why INTJ votes are so high for her because her style of leadership and planning is explicitly pointed out several times to contrast Dokja's (Ne dom vs. Ni dom) - he says almost verbatim in canon how much he admires how she can see the big picture of things (Ne) while he tends to stick to one plan and modify that One Plan if needed as he goes (Ni). And Predictive Plagiarism is such an Ne-Ti skill it hurts. I could see the INTJ votes coming in due to to her 1863rd form but imo that's just an ENTP operating at their best? Also fictional ENTPs who are more ambitious tend to have this kind of "dual persona" when it comes to their goals/leadership styles vs their day-to-day personalities. They're very good at molding to a role

Yoo Jonghyuk ISTP <3 yeah. I would take ISTJ arguments if we were just vibe typing (especially later ORV) and I can SEE Si arguments but also. His Se and Ti are so strong. If you want to compare Ti and Te compare him and KDJ. Also I don't know too much about enneagram but he and HSY both being 8s with different wings is the funniest thing. 8's seek dominance over others (essentially a desire to be the top of the pecking order, whether as a leader or an independent actor, because their biggest fear is being controlled), 9 wing (yjh) looks for security in life and from the others around it, 7 wing (hsy) just wants to have a good fucking time and party. Also tends to hide/conceal its pain

Yoo Sangah ENFJ Yes yes I agree with this because I am in love with her (I had her as ExFJ when i did the post iirc I wasn't sure which). Intuitively good with people, naturally friendly, subtly very keen and discerning and able to not only pick up on but also accept Dokja's internal logic, even when it's a bit ruthless to do so (Ni-aux). She's the group's public figure, a natural diplomat. Doesn't shy away from the paparazzi like JHW or prefer to have her notoriety speak for her like HSY and KDJ. She's also YJH's exact opposite, if you want to compare ISTPs and ENFJs look at them. It means they have the same function stack but reversed. Also she and LHS being the most amicable of the main group is due to their xxFJ typing. naturally tuned in to people, to the point where they may stifle themselves for the sake of others

Lee Jihye I disagree with PDB saying ISTP (I think she's ISFP) but I don't know enough about mbti to dispute it LMFJDHDHD so I'll go with the communal vote of ISTP. they're right and I'm wrong. Either way my jock Se daughter

Lee Gilyoung I initially had him as INTP and PDB has him as INTP but I'm not... SURE? He's so difficult to type because he's the babby of the group. A babby doesn't have their full function stack developed yet. I don't think it's WRONG I'm just not SURE
