thank you for being interested in my ocs it’s the highest compliment.. ;_; Mabon and her family are Huldre! Huldrefolk are a type of forest creature in Scandinavian folklore, they are beautiful wamen who lure men into the woods and bamboozle them. By that I mean kill them. (that is not true for every interpretation of the Huldra but it is for mine) They are characterized by the cow-like tails and hollow holes in their back whiiiich I happened to draw today :-) Don’t ask how their bodies work I have no clue. Oh also fun fact in Swedish folklore there’s a similar version named Skogsrå who are fundamentally the same except they have fox tails typically, but sometimes they have neither. It gets convoluted

I’m not an OC person, but I have a lot of ideas for Trollhunters OCs, you know? It’s quite the conundrum. There’s so much room to explore in this universe, so many places to go with the mythology. 

For one thing, a lot of underground is also underwater. Most caves are created by water moving, carving out stone over centuries. Aquifers, rivers, lakes, mirror pools, all deep underground, far from sunlight.

I want water trolls who live on islands in lakes far below the surface, who use boats and magic to help their less water faring kin navigate the rivers below the surface. I want sea caves carved deep into cliffsides, populated by trolls who wear barnacles and clinging limpets and shells in their hair. Trolls who walk the seabed and trawl shipwrecks and drown humans just by weighing them down. 

Trolls who live in the deepest crevasses of the ocean, untouched by sunlight, who are more leviathan than golem. 

Underground axolotl inspired mermaids, who live in pitch black rivers and swim in water laced thick with minerals, who grow crystals and eat pale fish that has never seen the sun. 

Trolls that are softer than their stony kin, made for sleek swimming and the delicate twists and turns of their watery homes. 

On that note, more directly mythology inspired troll variants. Huldre trolls with hollow backs and tails. More international variants. Troll villages around the world showing their own little local flair. Oni, yaksha, yumboes, those are just the ones I can think of that might slot nicely into the troll categorization. 

Trolls from the poles, who hibernate through the months of endless sunshine and prowl unhindered in the long winter dark. 

Deep cave trolls, crystallized by pressure and heat, slow and steady as the heartbeat of the earth. 

Trolls with fossils embedded in them, ancient shells clinging to their skin, the bones of old prey worked into their very flesh. 

Trolls who are blind in bright light, for what is the point if you’re not meant to see the sun? Their night vision is excellent however.
