Utter defeat weighs you down on the mattress as you crawl into the space between his arms and the blanket he had draped over his torso, ready to pull it up for you to nuzzle under as you safely melt into him. The kind man you’d grown accustomed to calling your fiancé already has soft words of comfort prepared to greet you with, muttering small, and yet so meaningful reassurances.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Yeonjun presses a chaste kiss on your temple, waiting for your response, which eventually comes in the form of a tired no. Much too worn down, you don’t have the will left in you to talk anymore for the rest of the night. He understands, wordlessly humming a small tune accompanying the sound of the storm brewing outside.

As you fiddle with the gold ring around his slim finger under the cover, you adjust your position to hide your face under his chin, breathing in his familiar scent. Hearing his almost inaudible chuckles brings a long awaited smile on your face, lips curling to express your content. An indescribable joy fills Yeonjun’s body when he feels the brush of your lips against his skin.

“You did well today.” He smoothes his palm over your back in a steady rhythm, peaceful in contrast to the thunder booming. You are here in his arms, a hand pressed on your lover’s chest to feel the relaxed beats of his heart as you slowly drift into a well-deserved sleep, the worries and doubts fading away into the back of your mind when you hear him say those four words that mean more to you than anyone else other than him could imagine.

Once he notice how your breath has slowed down, he clasps his hand around yours, heart overflowing with adoration as he feels the cool touch of the metal on your ring finger, once again reminded how you’re right there, safe and sound in his tender hold— hopefully, for the rest of your lives. You and him against the rest of the world, together until the very lovely end.

The rain pelts down mercilessly tonight, but once again you are at ease, here in your own little safe haven. Away from the worries and away from the doubts.

The bus is crowded, though that is nothing worth taking note of. It’s a regular Friday afternoon, a rush of students and workers alike rushing to get home after the long and mundane week. There are a few elementary school kids exchanging game cards at the far left corner of the bus you’ve stepped onto, an old lady with a small bag of groceries sitting idly by the window seat somewhere at the back side, a suited man glancing at his watch as he grips on the bar above his head to stabilise himself.

You’re sitting safely at the very front, right behind the driver’s cubicle with Beomgyu to your right, shielding you from the mass of people squeezing themselves in the middle row. It’s like any other bus ride, you and him side to side— hand in hand, even.

He slips his hand discreetly in yours, fingers intertwined. The reaction he gets is almost instantaneous. There is a kind of satisfaction he gets from seeing the effect he has on you even by the smallest of actions. His heart trembles as you visibly hold back a shy smile at the warmth of his hand wrapped around yours.

It’s silly, he likes to remind himself whenever he feels his lips slipping into a lovesick grin. It’s so silly, he thinks as his stomach flips just by the sight of your abashed gaze. He feels so utterly silly for being so infatuated by your eyes, your lips, your scent and voice— it’s so silly, he tries to gather himself back into a semblance of his old, uncaring self and yet every time he does, you call for his name again.

Just like that, his knees feel weak and his mind falls numb again. A dream, he likes to describe you with those two words. You are just like a dream he’ll never in his life be willing to wake up from.

Your finger hovers over the strands of hair that had fallen before his lashes, gently brushing them away while trying to avoid looking into his eyes too much. The bus is crowded and yet the noise falls deaf to his ears. The world around him is nonexistent when he’s with you, he discovers.

It terrifies him.

He’s fallen so hard— much too hard and it scares him to no end. No longer does he have a grip on reality when he’s in your quiet presence. He’s forever drunk in everything you offer him, whether you know it or not and that is enough reason to be afraid.

Choi Beomgyu, the one who not a single soul could ever picture without a blank look on his face, is in love and no one is more surprised by this fact than he is. Choi Beomgyu hears the birds sing when there aren’t even any lining his window and he sees stars twinkling in your eyes even in daylight.

He is just a simple man in love.

: ̗̀➛ 𝐇𝐄𝐄𝐒𝐄𝐔𝐍𝐆 —! he'd one day take notice of the scabs and picked skin around your thumbs and observe for a day or two how they would come to exist. lo and behold, after confirming that it must be a habit of yours, he would ask about them and you'd explain it to him— albeit half embarrassed, because they weren't anything nice to look at. afterwards, whenever he notices you unconsciously picking at your skin again, he'd lace his fingers through yours to ease the urge and make you stop :(

: ̗̀➛ 𝐉𝐀𝐘 —! having a sore jaw and aching muscles around the area was never a good sign. he'd immediately kind of realize that clenching your jaw was something that you must have been doing while asleep, whether you were aware of doing it during the day or not, he went ahead and found out himself. he would do anything in his power to help ease any kind of stress you go through :(

: ̗̀➛ 𝐉𝐀𝐊𝐄 —! the first few times, he would just think that you biting your lips and nipping at the the skin over it would pass, but after the first time he notices your lip bleeding a bit, he'd gasp and fuss over you for a good amount of time, scolding you light-heartedly for it. his way of helping you not bite your lips every time he catches you doing it again was either kissing you unexpectedly while you are lost in thought or smushing your cheeks together and make your lips look like those of fishes and ducks haha

: ̗̀➛ 𝐒𝐔𝐍𝐆𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐍 —! the expression of mild disgust would be painted on his face when he sees you biting away at your nails for the first time, but it would soon turn him concerned when he sees how serious the habit's effect on your fingers would be. he'd want you to let him know if you were feeling any sort of discomfort at any time and give you some other object if you had to have something to stimulate yourself with :')

: ̗̀➛ 𝐒𝐔𝐍𝐎𝐎 —! he had thought that your habit of playing with the hem of your (or his) clothes was cute at first, but soon enough, he'd notice that you would resort to playing with the things on your surroundings only whenever you seemed visibly nervous and anxious. that would make him feel a bit bad for not noticing it sooner, but he'd recover quickly and stay closer to you from that moment onwards, just to make you feel safer and calmer.

: ̗̀➛ 𝐉𝐔𝐍𝐆𝐖𝐎𝐍 —! it wouldn't even have to be a giving a presentation in front of the entire class. the nerves could hit you anywhere and everywhere sometimes and some days when you feel worse than normal, you'd constantly stumble over your words or speak at too fast of a speed. he would always be so patient and understanding with you, encouraging you whenever you'd feel deflated ;-;

: ̗̀➛ 𝐍𝐈-𝐊𝐈 —! having to look directly into someone's eyes and holding contact, no matter who it was, would easily be overwhelming for you quite often, so having him reassuring you that it was okay would make you feel tons of times better. he would be so playful with his approaches and never really force you to interact with anyone if you were too anxious about the ordeal. honestly, he would be a little offended that you also seemed to avoid his gaze at first, but he'd quickly grow understanding.

"you need help with anything?"

donning a smile at the tall boy, who turns around— quite startled, may you add— and gazes at you for a breath of a moment too long, you gesture at the rows albums and cds he had just been silently staring at, seemingly unsure of what to purchase with so many options laid out in his front.

"uh," his eyes dart back and forth a couple of times thoughtfully, "not really?"

with nothing left to do, you shrug your shoulders and brush off his gratitude, sliding back behind the counter to fiddle with the stack of pens resting on the small desk. the clock would strike six o'clock in the afternoon soon, signifying the end of your shift, so you take note to pack your bag a few minutes before.

when you look at your classmate still mindlessly lingering in front of the in-demand bts albums, you're surprised to see his eyes settled on you. admittedly, it could have been the light giving off the illusion, so you think nothing of it. instead you opt to peer at the heavy clouds gathering above the city, dejected by the thought of having to walk the way home without an umbrella to shield you from the rain surely pouring in a few moments.

you wave a hand to grab the tall boy's attention who looks at you quizzically almost, "are you going to buy anything or not, riki?"

"yeah, actually." his hands swiftly pick up the latest product of his favourite band, fishing out his wallet from his pocket on the way to the counter. he hadn't originally planned on getting himself anything, but he had panicked and taken the most expensive albums on the cart, so now he had to bite his tongue and reluctantly pay— all to save his dignity.

the other part timer arrives to replace your place on the check just as the clock strikes six pm, meaning that you are now free to go. from the corner of his vision, his gaze tracks your form as you disappear off to the back to collect your coat and belongings— the cashier in front of him notices, but doesn't say anything, only smiling to himself and muttering something about being obvious and cute.

you gently close the door labeled as "staff only" behind you and weave your way to the front of the small shop, gawking at the heavy storm that seemed to be out there on the streets. millions of droplets relentlessly crash on the ground before you with no intent of ever stopping soon. walking back home seems hopeless for the next half an hour.

gathering his words, riki nudges your elbow, "you're not going out?"

you shake your head, annoyed at yourself for having forgotten the one most important thing today. "i think i'll be staying inside till things die down, i guess."

"well," he triumphantly pulls out a black umbrella from the side of his bag, "you could just take mine. i live closer anyways, so i don't mind just sprinting back to my place." his smile is contagious as you find yourself mimicking his shy grin.

you push away the small object back into his hand, "liar. i know where you live too and it sure as hell isn't closer than mine. don't you live three blocks further than my house?"

"you caught me." he sighs with a tone you know is dramatacised, "okay then, i can just drop you off and then continue since you can't wait here for like, what, an hour?" he can't really quite pinpoint exactly where this bout of bravery had risen from within him, but he is grateful for the kick of adrenaline that comes with asking out his secret crush— albeit not the ideal occasion with the rain pouring in buckets. figuratively, of course.

"since you insist," you trail off, "i wouldn't mind that, actually. let's go then!"

and that is how he ends up in the following situation with one of his shoulders completely soaked in the rain— thank goodness for the all black fit he had decided on going with today, which made it difficult to recognise any change of tone in the color of the fabric by the water. the umbrella had been smaller than anticipated, only fitting a regular person and not many more.

oh well, sacrifices would always be done to make sure you were alright.

the walk is peaceful under the warring rainfall and conversation is at a halt— one too shy to initiate and the other lost too much in the moment to do anything but stay quiet. nothing is said and nothing is needed to be said, though more than a few inconspicuous stolen glances are thrown at one another, catching each other in the act just a little less than a handful of times.

"this is me." you tap on the back of his hand the had been gripping the handle of the umbrella tightly, catching his attention and waking him from a daydream he'd unnoticedly fallen into. turning a left and coming to a slow stop right before the entrance, he tilts the umbrella behind to let you step a foot onto the raised floor.

"thanks a lot, riki. see you tomorrow." you give a friendly pat on his shoulder, then noticing how sopping wet it had gotten compared to your own clothes. "oh my god, you're like, completely drenched. i am so sorry about that."

"don't stress it, it'll dry in no time. now, go inside. i'll see you in class again anyways." he takes a step back before you can offer him a spare jacket so that he wouldn't get sick or something.

"are you sure you're good? be careful!" you bellow through the pounding droplets, huffing as your classmate waves you off halfway down the small street. he raises his thumb and shows you an ok sign, "just go inside already!"

soon enough, he is shaking off excess water from his sister's umbrella that he'd borrowed before rushing out of the house an hour prior, stepping into the humble nishimura abode with a beam on his lips and twinkle in his eyes.

"you look awfully suspicious." konon leans against the wall, a teasing smile on her face, seemingly all too knowing of where he'd come from. she sniggers at her brother's expression akin to a deer caught in headlights.

"whatever." he clears his throat and putting away his shoes to dry, hoping that she wouldn't press any further— not that she needed to, of course, because nishimura riki is too obvious and as easy to read as a book.

ten am the next morning and yet another sneeze is heard ringing from a certain room, followed by the ping of a new notification— a message, to be clear— and a silent chuckle.

jungwon holds off your fingers in his hand, flicking your nose with his other hand to get revenge, "i know that, but it's just hard, okay?"

it's really is actually quite difficult to concentrate on anything else other than his best friend— who he has an undeniable and very real crush on— sitting right next to him. asking for your assistance had been a large mistake on his part, now realising how distracting your presence was when he had to be focusing on your instructions only.

"gosh, jungwon, you're such a mess today." you shake your head and sigh, leaning back against the uncomfortable chair. not wanting to out himself, he bites the words on the tip of his tongue back and keep his thought to himself. and who's fault do you think i'm such a mess?

"well," you wrap an arm around his shoulders, giving it a comforting squeeze, "it's okay, i guess. we can just stop for today since we still have a week till the test. i'm sure you'll get the hang of it."

oh god, he hopes that you don't hear the pounding of his heart, too close. he peers at the hand dangling loosely over his shoulder, taking a whiff your shampoo while you lay your head on his side.

you can't help but tease him like you always do, "there, there, jungwon. no need to be sad over such trivial matters."

that's not the real problem here, his mind screams as he feels his stomach being overpopulated by butterflies.
