as the height of summer begins to peak, the citizens of washington find themselves having more free time, moments to just relax and have fun. teenagers lounge by the pool and complain that there’s no beach nearby, or wander around the mall for hours on end. kids are running around the playgrounds, and even the older citizens of dc are finding time to do what they love and make some memories. with everything in the city being so unpredictable, it’s best to live while you can and enjoy the time you’ve got.

we are already a little into it, but happy summer everyone! i’m sure there are quite a few of you looking for a distraction from the heat, so we’re here to provide a nice and fun task to sit down and do, hopefully somewhere cool! we’re keeping with the format of some tasks in the past, but with a brand new focus. for this task we’re here to find out about your character’s social media and hobbies! 

- as usual there will two aspects to this task, a written part as well as a graphic! we would love to see you implement some parts of both, but of course please feel free to put your focus where the muse is. if that means putting more time into one aspect over the other that’s completely fine, just as long as we see a little bit of both in the post!

- for the visual aspect we would love to see some sort of graphic showcasing your muse’s presence on social media. what that means is entirely up to you! there are a tone of templates out there with a variety of different social media or phone based graphics to showcase. if you need some ideas you could definitely start by checking out these: x, x, x, x, x but don’t hesitate to come to us if you need more help! your muse isn’t really a social media type? that’s totally okay! we’re including day to day hobbies in this task as well, so if a moodboard giving an idea of how they spend their day makes more sense you’re more than welcome to take it in that direction.

does your muse use any social media? what sites do they use? how much of an online presence do they have?

Maggie uses Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook; but as a senator, she keeps her life as private as possible. Her Instagram account is to connect on a more personal level with others as a senator, her twitter account is mainly for her work, whereas her Facebook account is for close friends and family.

what kind of accounts does your muse follow online? and what do they post on their own accounts?

She follows other politicians, the president and vice president (of course), and people she knows personally. She mainly posts photos of herself, places she goes, people she spends time with, and her son, Hershel.

is your muse comfortable with a phone or computer? do they use them often? how literate are they with technology?

Maggie’s pretty good with phones and computers, though she’s not 100% used to them yet, as technology is way more advanced now than it was before the outbreak started in her world. She uses her phone and computer a lot for work, so she’s pretty literate with technology.

Maggie’s profile picture on Instagram is from her doing an interview, while her profile picture on Twitter is from a professional photoshoot, and her profile picture on Facebook is a personal photo. She doesn’t change her profile picture very often.

blathers-- task 11: social media and hobbies

social media:

blathers definitely has social media! he’s mostly active on “academic twitter” although it’s rarely serious conversation, it’s mostly just facts and properly ooh-ing and ahh-ing over other people’s archival discoveries and such. he’s very professional online and doesn’t post much about his personal life, no matter the app he’s using. he follows all the museums, and all of the city’s politicians, all of the local shops and restaurants to support them. he really is not concerned with over-booking his feed. on his own account, he mostly tweets additional thoughts about some of the things the smithsonians have been tweeting about. he uses his desktop browser to tweet at work rather than being on his phone, because it feels less lazy that way. his profile picture is just his headshot, and he doesn’t typically change it, and his username is some variation of “Blathers” in order to keep things nice and simple. he takes photos of objects and animals more than himself. he would probably do really well in some kind of online education career but he would miss the face-to-face contact with people. 

hobbies:

reading! he reads all of the time, and if he’s not at work, he’s probably at a library or a bookstore somewhere-- if not actually reading himself, then at least talking to other people about their recent reads or their recent interests. he listens to podcasts in the background at work regularly but is the type of person who will zone out and realize they’ve missed something, and instead of just continuing on, he’ll rewind or restart the podcast episode, and most likely that will happen 2-3 times minimum in the same episode. probably for the very same section. he does not complete a lot of podcasts. other than reading, he also enjoys various crosswords and word puzzles and games. he is not an outdoors-y sort of person but you might find him on the back patio of a coffee shop (in the shade, obviously). he's also gotten into geocaching groups online.

xie lian– task 11: social media and hobbies

social media:

xie lian definitely has “grandpa” tendencies online, because he’s very wholesome but just, like, a weird guy. he probably has a facebook he updates and shares posts on even though he’s got, like, five friends on there maximum. but he’s an amazing hype man and will like and comment every single one of your posts that he happens to see. even if the comments have absolutely nothing to do with the post or the photo in question. he uses proper capitalization and emojis unironically and likes the idea of a hashtag but puts a space between the # and the actual hashtag. he knows this is incorrect and continues doing it anyway. his instagram is mostly photos of things he’s found while dumpster diving and scrap collecting, which he posts with no rhyme, reason, or photo editing whatsoever. he’ll also triple and quadruple post multiple times in a row. every selfie he has ever taken has either been at a terrible angle, blurred, or with a finger in front of the camera, so he sets one as his profile picture on all of his apps and doesn’t really change it unless he for some reason gets enthusiastic about having taken another “really good” picture. i think more likely, he takes lots of photos of san lang and shi qingxuan and photos of sophie’s flower shop (all of which are also poor in quality). the funniest thing to me is that xie lian is fully capable of being computer & internet literate and simply chooses to continue doing his own thing, because if it’s for his own enjoyment, then who cares if he’s doing it wrong? 

hobbies:

if he has a free day, he’ll spend it doing varied activities-- working in the garden in the backyard (which he’s really come to enjoy), or practicing forms (also in the backyard) with the new sword that san lang got him at the renaissance fair. he might do a bit of cooking and meal prep, because he likes taking his time and not being rushed. and he’ll go to pay visits to friends around the city, just to check in on them and say hello. he’s a music person rather than a podcast person and will listen to whatever playlists his phone decides to play for him (just the generic genre/vibe ones like on spotify, either “chill” or “good day” or “work from home” or whatever comes up first when he clicks into the app). if given the option, xie lian would definitely choose to stay in and spend time with loved ones at home, since that’s what makes him feel the most comfortable.

he would not have any dating apps because he doesn’t need them, but if he did, his bio would be something like “Hello! You can call me Xie Lian. mainly just instagram honestly, she’s probably got a twitter but really only uses it to tweet some annoying thought she has at like 3 am and then not use it again for like six weeks. i’d say she had a pretty decent online presence? she probably posts like once every other week, but is more likely to use stories and stuff rather than a full instagram post

what kind of accounts does your muse follow online? and what do they post on their own accounts?

a LOT of bands. marlene’s instagram feed is predominantly dad rock 70s/80s metal bands. obviously a lot of her friends / family too. on top of that she probably follows some local tattoo artists, different local bands, bars, etc. 

is your muse comfortable with a phone or computer? do they use them often? how literate are they with technology?

i’d say she’s pretty comfortable, she’s been in the city for years so she doesn’t really struggle with using a phone anymore or anything of the sort. she’s definitely comfortable enough to use it daily, though she rarely answers texts. marlene’s the worst. if you text her she will not even read it and will just immediately call you like “whats up”.

she uses like one picture. she really likes it and sees no reason to change it

i’d say she takes a decent amount of photos, yeah. she’s a fan of documenting her friends/family’s antics. on a more serious note, she definitely enjoys having photos that remind her of good times, that remind her that her family really did live. that her friends were as lively and happy as they were when they were in that moment the picture was taken. it’s a reminder for her that no matter how hard the war knocked them down, they’re still alive and happy here in the city.

probably not cause marlene really has no idea what she would do to make money like she does not think she has enough talent to make money through the internet.

does getting into fights count as a hobby? no but actually, unsurprisingly, marlene’s really into record collecting. she will spend hours like cataloguing what she has and going to different shops to try and complete discographies. she’s also secretly trying to learn both the guitar and drums but she is terrible at it and does not wanna talk about it.

use her magic to make herself coffee so she doesn’t have to get up and focus on it, for starters. after that she’s probably head to her usual record shops and thrift shops to see what new they had in. i think even with a day off though, marlene would have a hard time not checking in at work, so she’d probably make up some excuse like she forgot her wallet or something in the break room just to make sure everything was okay. but after that i think she’d be impulsive and go get a tattoo cause like she’s got the time why not

yeah she listens to music like 24/7. if she doesn’t have music going on on some speaker/record player at home, she has her phone playing, or headphones, just, always some sort of background noise. she missed so much good music she has to make her way through decades of music idk what to tell you

out with loved ones 100%. even if she’s staying in at one of their places, she is with someone she loves. she hates being alone

she uses a couple, mainly just instagram for any personal things, and then has a work twitter! but mainly just the ig !!

for work, it’s solely senators, politicians, white house staff etc. for her personal instagram, it’s friends, her siblings, different artists she really likes the work of etc.

yeah, sella has definitely gotten comfortable with technology!! when she first got here, she definitely hated it and wasn’t good at using any of it. but now that her job really centers around technology, she’s as comfortable as the next twenty-something year old!

she uses the same photo across every platform!! she doesn’t really change it ever??

sella really loves taking pictures of her friends and family, she will take them whenever she can. honestly, she probably ends up in a lot of photos as well, but she prefers taking them. she just is a huge fan of documenting this time with her and her siblings, knowing they’re safe, that they can be themselves and be happy as a family.

i don’t think so, i think sella enjoys working too much to do something in any kind of social media career. she likes having that traditional job separation.

beyond her art, not really? between work, school, her family, and art, she really doesn’t have a lot of time for other hobbies. she enjoys going to museums, spending time out in parks and enjoying nature, just anything that keeps her out of the house. sella hates being a homebody, she was kept so sheltered and really only left the family’s estate every so often that now, she will do anything she can to be out of her apartment.

she’s taking herself, her art supplies and parking herself in the middle of the mall and having a damn blast.

rita skeeter - task 11

social media

rita is very active on social media and her phone in general. it’s really all a part of the job. since she’s a freelance journalist a lot of her information and promotion is done herself. she’ll use any social media that’s popular but she absolutely sticks to twitter the most. instagram is nice for bigger promotions, but she feels like it’s better for talking about herself, whereas twitter is better suited for her actual focus, talking about other people. rita posts on instagram here and there to make sure people know she’s successful and happy but she is on twitter nearly all the time. she absolutely is the type to vague tweet at people, or directly start twitter fights. there are definitely a chunk of people following her who think she’s a troll account. she takes a lot of pictures, but doesn’t post all of them. she’s more the sort to store things around in case they’re needed for something later. she isn’t the type to change her social media icons frequently, but it’s always going to be a picture of herself. it’s all about branding. she wants to be recognizable, and if you change it too often followers will get confused. she’s actually put together a pretty decent following, probably by being obnoxious and unbelievable and posting a bunch of outlandish stuff, but rita has never been picky about how she gets her attention, just as long as people are listening to her, and that’s definitely reflected in the sort of things she posts. 

hobbies

honestly, rita is very genuinely a bit of a workaholic. taking a day off is not a natural activity for her and even when she tries she’ll see something interesting happening around her and go back into work mode. even if she tries to chill out with other people it turns into gossip, which is also just work at the end of the day for her. if she absolutely had to force herself to take a day off she would probably do brunch, a spa day, and then drinks. she likes being around other people even if she isn’t friendly, and a quiet day in would be so incredibly unappealing to her it’s ridiculous. she’s absolutely a podcast listener. though traditional journalism has most of her love, with modern technology she enjoys getting information from apps or podcasts. it’s always going to be nonfiction podcasts related to either straightforward news or pop culture. she’ll put on music for a work out or something of that nature but definitely prioritizes podcasts out of two options.

ginny has a couple forms of socials, she’s got instagram, tiktok, twitter, and a tinder. she uses instagram a lot, twitter is just for work / communicating with parents if she needs to, and then tiktok, she’s posted like 1 thing on it so. she really doesn’t spend a lot of time on socials?? she will occasionally post a story but otherwise she’s gonna post like twice a month. if that.

a lot of just friends instagrams. she likes to keep her feeds relatively clean and doesn’t want to get bogged down by a lot of celebs and stuff that she just doesn’t care about.

yeah definitely!! she uses technology daily so she is very comfortable with it!!

yeah she takes a lot of pictures, just of whatever looks nice. she’s got an eye for photography so she tries to take pictures when she can!! i think she ends up in them every so often but not as many as she takes of others!!

probably not?? she likes her traditional job and feels like she wouldn’t be able to have that same kind of meaningful impact on lives if she isn’t teaching / coaching and just making her money from the internet.

ginny’s a big sporty outdoorsy kinda gal, so she will spend a lot of time outside, playing any kind of game, going on hikes and walks, going for runs etc. she’s also weirdly good at hacky sack??? and frisbee. she’s just that sporty person who is always down for some kind of park trip. she probably spends the other half of her time doing the other thing she loves, hanging out with her friends. her and luna have like a movie night schedule and she will do whatever she can to make sure she is there for that.

she’s up at like 6am and going for a run before it’s too hot, she’d probably end up bringing breakfast back for luna, doing some chores and then heading down to some trails to go on a hike and explore the more woodsy areas of dc !!! she’d really just wanna spend whatever free time she can enjoying the outdoors for longer than she usually can during normal work hours.

ginny puts on those like spotify playlists that’re like “wanderlust” or “teenage movie vibes” and just goes with those for the rest of the day. she’ll find a band she likes in them and probably explore them a little bit more later on.

sophie has instagram and let’s be real they use it like maybe once a week.. maybe. they really don’t like spending a lot of time on their phone, though, she does really like taking photos, even if they’re not very good.

tbh they really only follow their friend’s/family’s accounts.

uhhhhhh i mean, they’re more comfortable than they used to be. they definitely still prefer a phone call, but will definitely text and use instagram for the most part. but like think very much the early days of instagram where it’s much less about the brand and just posting fun pictures for your close friends lmao. they are definitely not very comfortable with any other forms of social media though

some photo howl took that they took off of his instagram , if they had any other social media, it would probably be the same photo across the board.

i think sophie definitely tries to take a lot of pictures, but they are really just for her to enjoy, she isn’t an expert by any means. i also don’t think they’d shy away from the camera nowadays. if i pulled them from early in canon, before the curse? you would literally never see their face in a picture but now? she’s much more comfortable in her own skin.

no, thanks, she likes having her job. though, she does see the benefit in having an online presence for your small business.

sophie loves to cook tbh. honestly, most like classically domestic skills, sophie really enjoys? like they really do enjoy cleaning, it helps clear their mind to get rid of a mess and put everything where it goes. she aggressively cleans when she’s upset, it’s therapeutic. they also really enjoy knitting / sewing / needle point. just something to keep their hands busy when they aren’t studying / working. another big thing they love to do is go on walks, just any walk in nature? sign them up. i don’t think there are any interests they keep secret though.

bold of you to assume they would ever take a day off. you are all lucky they have the shop closed on monday’s. and even that is pushing it cause they are definitely still working, customers just don’t come in. honestly, sophie would probably try to spend it with her family, maybe get breakfast with chihiro before she went to sleep, spend the afternoon with howl, maybe they would take markl and calcifer out somewhere.. though sophie definitely is a big fan of picnics, not that they would ever really plan one themselves, but hey, if you wanna take them somewhere, trust me, a really thoughtful picnic will be the right vibe.

not really? sophie’s never really been one for music. howl always sang those strange songs in their language with calcifer and that was pretty much the most music she would ever really listen to. otherwise, they are pretty comfortable with silence.

i would say going out with loved ones, though i think honestly they really do enjoy the time spent in with loved ones? like her family gathered around a home cooked meal? incredible.

she does use social media, she’s mostly on instagram, but she does have a tiktok account but she uses that to watch allana’s videos and never posts anything.

she mostly follows her family and a few friends tbh? and a couple of celebs and a few fashion brands that she likes?

yeah she’s pretty comfortable, she uses her phone and laptop a lot and she’s pretty literate with them?

she mostly has different pictures of herself, like more official ones for different things and then just switches them all up every now and then. she probably changes it at least once every few weeks.

suki uses mostly instagram for like personal things, she has a twitter but she really only uses that to promote her gym, so it’s a lot of links to the website. otherwise, she really just uses instagram for her friends!!

a lot of fitness accounts, her friends, some bands she likes, a couple like food bloggers. suki mainly posts about her friends, she likes to take pictures of them and post funny things, she’ll also post a lot about her job, trying to promote it

yeah i’d say suki is pretty comfortable with her phone and computer. she’s nowhere near like super tech savvy but for a casual user, she’s comfortable. she doesn’t use them all that often, mainly checking her phone to text her friends or to take a photo but she’s definitely getting more comfortable by the day

she keeps the same photos for all her personal accounts. she probably changes it often, but if she likes a picture it’ll stay for a few months

definitely takes a lot of pictures, shes the friend that somehow always ends up catching you doing something ridiculous, so she has takes enough photos to capture them. i think she’d probably end up in a fair amount as well, she’s definitely not camera shy.

i wouldn’t say suki’s job is incredibly traditional already, and there is a fair amount of promoting through social media that she has to do already so it’s kind of a mix of both already, but i think she would still want to keep training and teaching regardless of if most of her income came from social media.

suki definitely loves being busy. she is a very outdoorsy person, and loves to be always moving. but one of their favorite things to do is honestly to just go swimming. they grew up on an island and has spent so much time swimming they really miss having that access to water here, so they’ll find a river/pool anything they can to swim. i don’t think suki keeps like anything secret really so if you wanna know about a hobby, they’d tell you.

they’d probably grab breakfast, enjoy a really slow easy morning, maybe go for a hike, do some training, and then go to the gym they have a membership at to go swimming for like the whole afternoon. then go get dinner with sokka and enjoy a chill night together before enjoying the fact that they live alone together :)

task 011: luke skywalker.

technology & social media.

luke has been in the city long enough at this point to understand social media fairly well. considering all of the different sorts of technology that he was accustomed to in space, this is was nothing too out there from what he already had seen. that being said, given the nature of him being known as the president’s brother, he does tend to keep all of his accounts completely private. staying in line with an image is something that he can do in person when needed, but with these sort of things he doesn’t want to have to act a certain sort of way. he mainly uses them to follow just about all of their family, and the few people that he’s become acquainted with in the city. he does follow some popular meme accounts, and does have a habit of following some fashion blogs ( gotta keep up with all of the trends he can pair the chanel boots with ). his twitter is mostly retweets of things that he likes, with some original thoughts and posts sprinkled in between. with instagram, he does enjoy posting selfies or photos with the fam, as well as some aesthetic type photos. he’s good with any technology at this point, learning things quickly and becoming skilled at them without too much effort.

hobbies & free time.

truthfully, luke doesn’t have many hobbies. he enjoys flying, but it’s not something he can really do in his spare time around here given certain restrictions. there’s a lot of what he does that’s also so intertwined with the ways of the jedi and the force that he doesn’t consider them to be hobbies. if anything, the closest to that would be working on cars at the garage, but he usually goes there more for the socialization with han and allana more than anything else. i don’t know if luke truly knows what he would want to do in order to relax or what he would want to do in his spare time. the majority of his life was essentially laid out for him, and while it’s not necessarily a bad thing or something he would change, he doesn’t know what he enjoys outside of all of that.
