My first try at it… was not what I was aiming for.

It was an attempt at artwork for my FallenLondon @failbettergames OC, The Mirror-Eyed Hyaline. After a few more tries, I move on to trying to make London itself. I’ll get those tries posted soon.

A reference sheet for one of the characters in Sinirin (my high fantasy headworld), Tappani Æmber! Background picture was found on Unsplash.

He lives in a time period that’s equivalent to around the early/mid-20th century in terms of technological & scientific advancement. (I don’t really like writing medieval or otherwise low-tech settings.) He is frequently commissioned by palaeontologists to summon the spirit of whichever animal they are studying in order to get a rough visual reconstruction (sans full colouration) and ask it what life was like in its time. Because of him, palaeontology in Sinirin is already more advanced and accurate than it will ever be in real life.

Necromancy and zoopathy (talking to animals) are both rare to have a natural inclination towards, and being naturally inclined towards both at once - especially with one being super-powerful - is basically unheard of. Tappani considers it his “duty” to use his powers to the maximum, because the gods must’ve given them to him for a reason, right?

It doesn’t happen very often, but if he is commissioned by a particularly unpleasant person, he will rules-lawyer their requests.

I don’t have a name for the familiar yet.

I now like my lineart and flat colours enough to do the reference sheet thing without overworking myself. I've meant to do this for so many years - I've been asked for refs many times but burnout and getting really rusty as a result got to me. I've also been too busy due to university to put in the amount of love necessary for my OC's refs. I have a lot of re-working canon to do. 

Each ref sheet involves a lot of work - conlangs, understanding their native environment & ancestor animals, developing a culture around those things, 3D models to make my life easier because my stereoblindness makes perspective & depth Impossible. I'll only be doing reference sheets for my four 'sonas for now. But the work helps me do the greater worldbuilding work, since they don't live in a vacuum. Trying to remember how to paint things I like that don’t take 7+ hours.  Ao’ze’ckr // Dimitri is one of my most ancient OCs. They’re a dual-bodied shapeshifter! I held off talking about my characters for years because I don’t want to Spoil Things but it doesn’t, spoil anything, exactly. And it’ll be forever until I can work on Nails & Teeth soooo whatever.
