I've had more meaningful interactions on mastodon than anywhere else with 1/4th the followers, for what it's worth, because I put the work into making friends and connections and replying to things. The algorithm will not help (or hinder) you - there is none. You need to relearn how to make connections and interact with people again like it's the early 2000s internet.

Also, you can join whatever server and with the use of hashtags you can be discovered by anyone virtually everywhere else.

It does not need to be an IG replacement or a twitter replacement or whatever for it to be meaningful.

i watched The Thing - the original 80s one - for the first time. what a phenomenal movie.

the lack of trying to hint to the viewer who was infected made it the most impactful piece of horror i've ever seen. turns out its more terrifying if you don't get any real solid hints. aside from like, clothes changing on the clothes hooks, since the transformation ruins their clothes; but it doesn't spend any camera time on those details. you get a quick glance, and then go wait WHAT. and then you realise you don't remember whos clothes are missing

i've never been a big fan of suspense in horror, because it feels like they're just dragging shit out. but THIS is the kind of suspense i can get behind. it's unrelenting and paranoid

yeah. here in australia the cost of living crisis regarding food is caused from war and natural disasters limiting the production of and so availability of produce (also with the bird flu thing, now we have disease to contend with.) then there's supermarkets jacking up prices so high they're reporting record profits. our PM made mention of this and miraculously some prices came down. but only some lol. there's been no regulatory pressure.

like i cannot stress enough how much climate change, unregulated business activities and wars from places far away from you will fuck you personally. trump is on record saying things that illustrate he'll fuck y'all and a large swathe of the world with all three of these things

i've listened to a lot of interviews with republican voters and 99% of the ones i've heard are like "biden made the economy suck trump gave us money when he was president once, he'll do better" and it is INFURIATING how much that ignores how the economy works. the president is not the sole decider of the state of the economy, you clowns.
