I’ll make an official intro post later lol I’m mainly here to talk to myself.

Name’s Carrion, 23, they/them, a hyenidae cladotherian and werewolf therian. I’ve been out of the community for a while but I made this account to discuss my experiences. Might reflect on your posts sometimes, if you’d rather have me delete my addition feel free to ask.

I have just learn so much about the feliformia suborder you have no idea (starting by what this suborder even is). Okay soooo technically hyenas are a different family (hyenidae) from what we more commonly consider cats (like lions, leopards, house cats etc) (felidae), but they all belong to a larger suborder of feliformia!

Did you know the first word on websters is the word aardwolf. They are one of 4 oofshoot species of hyenas(aka hyenidae). If you go out a bit further they belong to the suborder feliformia.they are also insectivores.

i am absolutely not sending this in the spirit of “um, actually”-ing you and i hope it doesn’t come across that way i just really love hyenas. they are part of their own family of carnivores called hyenidae. they’re similar to canids for a couple of reasons but they’re actually phylogenetically closer related to cats! so i think classifying them as a cat OR a dog would be fine frankly. have fun with it. it’s fursonas!

the spotted hyena is a hyena species native to sub-saharan africa. hyenas are unique in that the females are the only mammal species to lack a vaginal opening, with a pseudo-penis used to have intercourse and give birth. hyenas are the most common large predator in africa, but they also frequently scavenge for their food; their feces is often chalky and white due to the amount of bone content. hyena groups are female-dominated, despite often being compared to wolves, their social structure is very different (hyenas are not closely related to the canine family).
