“Now we can begin our day,” Eve commented when she and Hyoyeon buckled their seatbelts.

Hyoyeon started the car as her eyes flitted to the time on the head unit. “It’s one in the afternoon.”

“One PM is the new eight AM,” Eve supplied. “Let’s start the day!” She cheered.

“Let’s start the day!” Hyoyeon echoed.

She drove away from their house, going back to the central part of the small town they were in. Parking the car to the side of the street, they exited.

“Yunhui halmeoni’s restaurant is a block away from here,” Hyoyeon commented. She shouldered her handbag, Eve doing the same.

Eve chuckled. “Are we going to recognise places from how far they are from Yunhui halmeoni’s restaurant?”

“It’s our only hope of survival,” Hyoyeon joked. “Without that, we won’t know anything.”

“She’s like our north star,” Eve said. “Our true north,” she corrected. “Our north compass?” She asked, looking to Hyoyeon for assistance.

Hyoyeon shook her head. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about.”

“Unnie, you know it,” Eve whined as they started walking. “It’s that thingy where north is always the same or something.”

“I don’t know it!”

“You should, though.”

They walked on the sidewalk, looking at the scenery of the town. Hyoyeon locked the car again, not remembering if she had already done that.

“I like this place!” Eve exclaimed excitedly. “I should move here when I’m older.”

Hyoyeon gaped at Eve. “Agassi,” she said in a teasing tone, “you’ve been here for less than twenty-four hours. You can’t just decide to move already.”

Rolling her eyes, Eve sighed. “I guess.”

“The only place you know is Yunhui halmeoni’s restaurant,” Hyoyeon continued. “How are you going to find your way around?”

“I’d know a few more places by then, obviously.”

The two continued discussing logistics of Eve moving to the small town, with Hyoyeon vetoing almost all of Eve’s ideas. The younger woman sulked as Hyoyeon pulled her into an antique shop.

“Go crazy.” Hyoyeon pushed her gently by her shoulders in the direction of the acrylic paintings that she saw from outside.

Eve gasped as she approached the paintings. “They’re so pretty.”

Hyoyeon went to a different part of the shop, stopping by the crockery. “This dog looks like Bailey.” She pointed at a dog that was painted on the centre of a saucer. “I wonder how she’s doing. She’s probably happy as long as she’s eating.” She chuckled.

She continued looking at the crockery. “These are so nice,” she gushed. Looking at the cameraman, she hummed in thought. “Should I get coffee mugs or plates? There’s so much to choose from.” She put her hands on her hips. “Let me get the Barbara plate. Let me get two!” She picked the plates from the shelf. “And… I’ll get these mugs.” She picked two mugs with blue floral designs from a lower shelf.

The owner of the store, who was in the back helping another customer, passed by and gave Hyoyeon a basket for all her items. “Take this, agassi.” The elderly man said.

Hyoyeon bowed to him, accepting the basket as he walked away to ring the other customer up. “Thank you.” She put her plates and mugs inside, fixing her grip on the basket before walking to where Eve was. “How is your shopping going?” She asked, seeing Eve staring intently at three paintings.

“I’m deciding,” Eve whispered. “I don’t know which one to choose. I’ve already chosen that one–” she pointed at a painting of a European farmhouse that was propped up against a chair– “but I need to choose between these three.”

Hyoyeon looked at the three paintings: the first one was of a lake with lily pads, the second was of two hands holding each other and the last was of a vase with yellow tulips inside. “Why don’t you get them all?”

“Because they cost money. So I have to choose.” Eve glanced at Hyoyeon, noticing the basket in her hands. “Ahjumma, what did you get?”

“Ah! I got plates and cups.” Hyoyeon showed off her crockery.

“Pretty!” Eve gushed, smiling. “Which one’s mine?”

“What?” Hyoyeon asked.

Eve’s smile dropped. “You didn’t get one for me?”

“Was I supposed to?”

“I’m busy choosing one for you!” Eve whined, pointing at the three paintings in front of her. “Did you think I was getting another for myself?”

“Yeah. That’s exactly what I thought was happening.”

Eve scoffed. “I’m working so hard for you and you don’t even care. Forget it!” She turned to face the paintings again.

Hyoyeon chuckled. “Let me go get you one.” She went back to the section with crockery. Staring at the various options, Hyoyeon chose a mug that had butterflies painted on it. Going back to Eve, she showed her her pick. “Do you like it?”

Eve gasped playfully. “Is that for me? You shouldn’t have!” She took the mug from Hyoyeon. “It’s so pretty. Thank you, unnie.”

“You’re a good actress. You should win the Daesang.”

Eve laughed. “This one is yours.” She tapped the painting of the vase with tulips.

“Thank you, Nabi-nim.” She curtseyed. “Let’s go pay.”

“Okay.” Eve gave Hyoyeon the mug as she picked up her paintings.

They went to the counter, Eve going to pay first since she had less stuff. “Hello,” she greeted the owner. She showed him the paintings so he could scan them, paying for them and standing to the side so Hyoyeon could buy her dishes.

“Are you two new to town?” The owner asked, giving Hyoyeon her receipt.

Eve nodded. “Yes. We’re on holiday here for the next five days.”

“If I were to give you a tip,” he started, putting Hyoyeon’s stuff in a paper bag for her, “you should wake up to see the sunrise one of these days. It’s truly magnificent.”

“Really?”

He nodded. “Yes. It starts rising at around five thirty in the morning, and it makes having to get up early worth it.”

Hyoyeon nodded. “Have fun,” she told Eve, knowing the younger girl would wake up to see the sunrise.”

“Thank you. Make a lot of money today,” Eve encouraged as they left the shop. The two women walked back to their car, putting their purchases in the backseat.

“For some reason, I feel like I just did a major errand,” Hyoyeon said, leaning against the car. “I’m tired.”

“We still have so much to do, though. We need to look at other shops, we need to get groceries–”

“Do you think we’ll end up leaving the house? Or will we spend most of our time inside?”

Eve thought for a second. “I think we’ll spend most of our time inside.”

“Then all we need to do is go grocery shopping. We don’t need to look at shops if we’re never going to leave home,” she pointed out.

“That’s true,” Eve agreed. “But we have to do something to make this fun to watch. We can’t just go grocery shopping and then go home.”

“What else should we do?” Hyoyeon wondered out loud.

Eve snapped her fingers. “I need painting supplies!”

“Why?”

“I want to do this art challenge where you do something everyday. Sometimes you need to sketch, sometimes you need to paint and I forgot my painting stuff,” she explained, shooing Hyoyeon into the driver’s side of the car. She hopped into the passenger’s side. “Let’s go find painting stuff!”

They drove around the town, stopping at a stationary shop. After spending almost thirty minutes inside, Eve found what she needed.

“Now what do we do?” Eve asked.

“Let’s just buy groceries,” Hyoyeon said, shrugging.

She sighed. “We have no choice.”

They went into the car after asking the shop owner where the nearest grocery shop was. After ten minutes, they arrived at the shop, getting out of the car.

“Let’s make a list of what we need,” Eve said, pulling out her phone. “Rice, for sure.”

“Obviously,” Hyoyeon agreed. “We also need meat and kimchi and… Let’s just go in and take what we need. We can’t think of it right now.” She chuckled. “Let’s get trolleys.” They both got a trolley each before entering the shop.

“Ooh!” Eve squealed. “This shop is so pretty.”

Hyoyeon glanced at one of the cameramen as she continued walking. “This one is easily impressed.” She pointed at Eve. “You could paint an apple orange and she’d stare at it for hours.”

“I appreciate the simple things in life,” Eve defended herself. “Let’s separate now and then convene in ten minutes to see what we each picked out.”

“That’s smart. I’ll go this way–” Hyoyeon pointed to the far right of the shop– “you go this way.” She pointed at the area they were currently in.

“I’ll see you in ten minutes,” Eve said as Hyoyeon walked away.

When Hyoyeon reached the last aisle, she parked her trolley by the wall. “The layout of this shop is very confusing. I’m used to all the fruits being on the other side, but they’re here.” She looked over the fruits. “I shouldn’t get strawberries because Nabi is allergic and I don’t want her to end up in the hospital. Oh, grapes!” She fist pumped when she noticed the fruit, adding it to her trolley.

She continued looking over the fruit. “Let me also get melons.” She added the fruit before looking at the camera. “We won’t be here for a long time, so we mustn’t get too much food,” she explained. Deciding she had enough, she moved on and walked down the aisle.

Eve sighed as she stared at her aisle, the snack aisle. “Why is the snack aisle the first one?” She wondered aloud. She scanned the aisle, sighing when she was done. “There aren’t any Doritos? How am I expected to live under these circumstances?” She groaned. Sniffling as she got ready to be dramatic, she stopped once she noticed a familiar blue packet out the corner of her eye. “Wait, nevermind!” She excitedly said, reaching for the packet. “Crisis averted, world peace restored. I found Doritos.”

She stared at the aisle, trying to work out how many packets she should get. “If I eat a minimum of one packet everyday, and I need to account for Hyoyeon unnie as well, then… someone else can do the maths for me.” Eve hesitantly reached her hand out. “Let me take three packets,” she decided.

“Vegetables,” Hyoyeon started as she parked her trolley next to the pumpkins, “let’s see.” She looked over all of the vegetables. “I should take carrots and onions. Oh, potatoes!” She hesitated with her hand just about to hold the vegetable. “Let me take sweet potato.” She thought for a second. “What else do you need when cooking?”

The two women continued shopping individually, Eve getting baking ingredients and Hyoyeon getting random odds and ends. At some point, they called each other and met up in the dairy aisle.

“Unnie, isn’t this place weird?” Eve asked. “The first aisle is snacks.”

“Yah, at the end was all the fruit,” Hyoyeon told her. “This layout is very confusing.” She looked over Eve’s trolley. “What did you get?”

“Snacks, baking stuff, rice, ramen, tteokbokki and some jangs.” She pointed at each of the items as she spoke, holding up the jars of gochujang and ssamjang when she was done. “You?”

“Fruits, of course. Vegetables, soju, all types of spices, soy sauce, sesame oil and… soda.”

Eve nodded. “We did a good job,” she bragged.

“We’re practically professionals,” Hyoyeon agreed. “Should we go pay?”

“Let’s go. We have everything we need.”

They began walking to the tills when Hyoyeon gasped. “We need to get meat,” Hyoyeon remembered.

Eve nodded. “We almost forgot to get some. How would we survive?”

They turned around, going to the back of the shop where all of the refrigerated foods and baked goods were.

“We also didn’t get bread,” Eve said.

“Let’s get one packet of meat for everyday we’ll be here,” Hyoyeon suggested as they stood over the meat freezer. “Because we’re not going to eat that much meat.”

“Unnie, you’re so smart,” Eve gasped. “I’m gonna get some bread.” She walked to the bread section, coming back with two loaves of bread. “Let’s also get ice cream.”

Hyoyeon chuckled. “I thought you were cold.”

“I am, but ice cream is so nice.” She added a few ice cream bars to her trolley.

Hyoyeon sighed. “We’re going to get diabetes,” she commented. “Oh! Add that one!” She pointed at a packet of Samanco ice cream, which Eve added immediately. “Let’s also get alcohol.”

“Okay!” They began walking to the drinks section. “I need this.” She took a few cans of energy drinks.

“Really?”

“The only reason I stayed awake all day is because I woke up late. I’ve been drinking a can of this with every meal.”

Hyoyeon hummed. “But we’re here to relax, you won’t need the energy drinks. Sleep in as long as you need. You won’t have any schedules.”

Eve paused from where she was about to grab another can, tilting her head. “You’re right.” She put all of the energy drinks back.

Hyoyeon stepped forward to observe the choices of alcohol. “This beer is nice,” she said, retrieving a packet of the beer. She grabbed another packet. “Just in case,” she explained when Eve eyed her. After they got some soda, they started heading to the tills again, when Hyoyeon gasped. Laughing, she said, “We didn’t get meat.”

Eve gasped. “Again?” She sighed. “At this point, let’s just not get meat. The universe is trying to tell us something.”

“I don’t want to listen to the universe,” Hyoyeon said as she turned her trolley around, Eve following her reluctantly. “Meat is a very important part of life.” She stopped in front of the meat freezer. “We’re here for four days and we’re buying one packet of meat for each day. So one packet of chicken, one packet of beef, one packet of pork and… another packet of pork.”

Eve looked at one of the cameramen. “She’s taking this so seriously. This is the most serious I’ve ever seen her.”

“Should we get fish instead of another packet of pork?”

“Fish is not meat,” Eve argued, twisting her face in disgust. “If I asked you to make me meat, you would never think to give me fish. Let’s not get fish, that’s crazy.”

Hyoyeon laughed as Eve stared at her in disgust. “You don’t like fish?”

“I do, but not as meat.”

“Okay! Two porks, one beef and one chicken.” Hyoyeon declared. “Now, let’s go pay.”

They walked to the till, making sure they had everything they needed. When they got to the till, they started unloading everything onto the conveyor belt.

“Unnie, you’re paying, right?” Eve asked as the cashier scanned the food items.

“Why me?”

“Because if I paid, I don’t think my wallet would ever recover.”

Hyoyeon nodded. “I’ll pay. How would this take away your money?” She asked, still putting the food on the conveyor belt.

They finished paying for their food, needing three boxes to put all of their groceries in. They took it to the car with the help of one of the cameramen.

“Should we go home now?” Eve asked as she started the car.

“Yeah. I’m tired now. Shopping is a lot of work.” Hyoyeon stared out of the window absentmindedly. “Let’s go home!” She cheered.

“Let’s go home!”

Sekhmet, the Goddess of War & Vengeance, whose origins stem from Ancient Egypt. She is now a City Council member and the owner of Visión / Ilusión.

FC NAME/GROUP: Kim Hyoyeon / Girls' Generation GOD NAME: Sekhmet PANTHEON: Egyptian OCCUPATION: Owner of Visión / Ilusión, Council Member DEFINING FEATURES: Sekhmet is immediately recognizable through her sharp, killer gaze. Though her frame is smaller than others, she is agile and moves gracefully, sweeping the air with a subtle ominous aura and scenting her surroundings with musk released from her long, straight locks, usually varying between a bright blonde from her lioness persona, and a jet black that offers a preview of the dark, doomed fate one will fall into after rubbing the goddess in the wrong way.

PERSONALITY: Sekhmet is quick – quick to act, quick to react, and quick to lose her temper. She remains on her feet and leads an active lifestyle to curb the blood thirst that stubbornly remains even after the age of war, battle and bloodshed. Her natural wartime instincts now converted to constant wariness and doubt of everyone and everything, and she always questions one’s intentions.

Yet this part of her is also balanced out by her gentler, more sympathetic side. Once worshipped as a patron deity of physicians and healers, Sekhmet can bring comfort, both physical and emotional, to those who are in need and have secured her absolute trust. Once a goddess associated to widespread disease and horror, who threatening to wipe out the entire humanity just to quench her blood thirst, she lives in an age where such sentiments were no longer acceptable nor necessary, and she began to become fascinated in seeing and experience the mundane, daily little pleasures she shall discover in her eternal life. Besides, constantly letting instincts run wild and letting fits of extreme rage ruin her days didn’t sound like the ideal lifestyle for Sekhmet today. Sometimes, feigning a sweet demeanor to watch a string of events unfold sounds like a fun way to pass time.

Although Sekhmet is definitely not a benevolent goddess by any means, she looks down upon and will always punish sly, plotting individuals. Everything she did, even her bad deeds, were done with dignity and pride, and any cheating or fraud of any kind is unacceptable in Sekhmet’s world. Of course, old habits die hard, and the goddess remains within her core her vengeful nature. Act with respect towards her, and she will return the favor with grace and generosity, but do her wrong and be prepared to meet the worst of fates possible.

HISTORY: An enraged Ra, God of Gods, having had enough of humankind plotting against him and going against the laws of ma'at, tore the cobra from the uraeus on his head and turned it into a lioness-headed goddess. Sekhmet was thrown into life, quite literally, and she believed it was because of that she was destined to be a goddess of great things. Everything substantial originated from her; war, chaos, plague, and even the unforgivingly scorching heat from the sun and her breath. She before whom evil trembles was revered and feared by all upon the land, and great measures were taken by worshippers to keep her appeased in order to avoid atrocities.

On certain days, she found herself unable to control her urge to destroy. On one of her usual missions to wipe out all men who were against Ra, she couldn’t stop killing until Ra fooled her with blood-colored beer that flowed in the rivers. On other days, she graced mankind with her powers to heal, offering antidotes for the deadly diseases she spread in fits of rage.

Both the benevolent and the malicious wanted so much from her, and Sekhmet knew whatever they wanted, she could give. Showered with luxurious offerings she’d never run out of in her eternal lifetime, her bloodlust only grew, and for eternities and more, Sekhmet would provoke wars of all scales, and spread deadly diseases that killed people in the most gruesome means. To stop her in her tracks, worshippers from all walks of life would step up their offering game, but the ones who prayed for victory in battle often outshone the others; and this is how the world came to be, settling their problems through good old-fashioned combat.

Therefore when the world gradually moved towards a time of rational debate over war, eradication of diseases with vaccinations, Sekhmet became restless, and questioned her purpose of life as her sole function began to become less relevant in the modern world. Perhaps it was time to shift her image and seek a new purpose in life, and while she had no dreams of making the world a better place, she wanted to place a certain type of order upon it that rang true to her values. Where would be a good place to start?

Perhaps somewhere small, where people would know who she was.

POWERS:

Solar/Fire/Heat Manipulation - As a descendent of Ra, God of the Sun, Sekhmet possesses the abilities that of a solar deity. Although the spectrum of her powers do not extend as far and wide when compared to a proper solar deity, she can manipulate lunar energy and make the use of fire and heat to a masterful extent.

War Manipulation - As a Goddess of War, Sekhmet has the supreme ability to manipulate all aspects of what leads up to a war, events during a war, and the aftermath of a war. This ranges from manipulating emotions that provoke conflict, manipulating the lands in which battles take place, the luck of any preferred winner, and much more.

Lioness Physiology - Sekhmet is represented by a lioness in ancient folklore, so she embodies the physical qualities of a lioness, first of all including the ability to shapeshift into one. When in lioness form, she will possess all physical and mental properties a strong lioness would otherwise possess.

Enhanced Archery/Swordsmanship - A self-explanatory trait, Sekhmet excels in the arts of weaponry, and can produce, use and manipulate weapons with skill and ease.

Disease Manipulation and Healing - Sekhmet can spread diseases of any kind, big or small, and can also offer antidotes for the diseases she spreads. On the other hand, she can heal illnesses, those to do with pathogens and internal medicine more effectively than those of a more mechanical or surgical nature.

Blood Empowerment - Sekhmet does not need to consume blood to survive, but she enjoys it and gains vitality and “pep” from drinking it, very much like alcohol or drugs.

STRENGTHS: Honest and straight to the point; observant and perceptive, and can usually spot nuances others cannot; generous with a punchy (if not slightly dark) sense of humor

WEAKNESSES: Brutally honest without a filter; obsessed with obtaining respect from others; stubborn, unwilling to compromise and is almost attracted to conflict; uses alcohol and drugs carelessly, and finds herself more violent and vengeful when under the influence

Special mention goes to Naver's new music show, NPOP! What's visually different about NPOP is that the on-screen lyrics (& group members' names) are center aligned, whereas all the other shows have lyrics on the bottom left.
