covet: to desire wrongfully, inordinately, or without due regard for the rights of others
[image description. a digital art piece of link and cia from the first hyrule warriors game. link is in his base costume, and holds the master sword in front of him, with one hand on the hilt and the other on the blade, cutting into his palm. Cia stands behind him leaning over his left shoulder. She is in her base costume and has her hands covering link's eyes, obscuring his face in shadow. Link's expression is blank while cia's is smug. The background is a solid blood red. End description]
what do you mean hyrule warriors is a hack-and-slash button masher and not a political drama?? anyways, ive had the world's worst art block and then i remembered how much i love hw link angst

first look at our Cia redesign for the hywar rewrite! She’s not evil in this version. She and Lana were once one being, the guardian of fate and time-- but split into two long, long ago due to cosmic cracks forming in the timeline. Now Cia just presides over fate. She has seer like powers that allow her to know all possible paths of fate-- but not the end of any of those paths.
This redesign was definitely a journey-- Cia’s design in the og game is one of the worst-- for a whole host of reasons. I wanted her to look elegant, ethereal, powerful, and glamorous. I also wanted to have her be recognizable as a redesign, despite looking very different, it’s still obvious that it is Cia. Went through a lot of sketches before we ended up here, but I’m very happy with the finished product!
She’s super cool, and I can’t wait to show more of her!

Oh my god I finally redesigned her like promised and I adore this so much more. The old design was comparatively very clunky and I didn’t have much of a proper idea about where I wanted to go with the design. Now, I’ve had more time to think about how I would rewrite Hyrule Warriors, this design fits her much more. In this post I explain my personal grievances about Cia’s design, so here I’ll pretty much just go over how I changed it from the first redesign.
Here’s a link to the original redesign - I personally quite like Lana’s still, though would probably add more subtle bird-like traits to her outfit to tie her a little to Cia, possibly a hummingbird because of their symbolism.
The biggest idea I had was that she would lean very heavily into the bird theming, specifically ravens, and would have an almost masquerade look to her, reflecting her want to impress Link. Her hat and mask fit a lot more with the costume-like look, but it serves a double meaning - the red gems dotted around her outfit and the glowing red eyes of her mask symbolize Ganondorf’s influence over her and how she’s stuck in her own mind and very toxic views (one of the themes in the rewritten story is about admiration vs obsession and how Cia and Lana embody that).
I kept most of the colour palette on the warmer side instead of this odd mish-mash of cool and warm tones. Most of the reds and pinks stay close to Cia’s head, hands, and feet, to attract attention to the most vital parts of the design when in combat and prevent a mix-up of characters on the battlefield, though I did make sure to dot them around the design here and there. I turned her pants into a dress and kept a slit to show off that funky leg tattoo. Her sash is meant to look vaguely like the tail plumage of a bird. I can’t really compare it because the previous design was a sketch, but I added a lot more detail to the clothing than before, which I’m incredibly proud of.

Cia's Portrayal
When it comes to Hyrule Warriors, I noticed just how insane a good chunk of people portray Cia through it. Now I haven't played the game or finish watching a playthrough so this is more opinion based since I don't have full context.
I will say some of you guys seriously need to chill.
So in Hyrule Warriors, Cia is the dark half of the original sorceress while is the light half. (Just know that the design choice for both and the context is a huge ass blunder on Nintendo's part. I ain't explaining cause it's clearly obvious to EVERYONE.) What people don't understand is the contrast between dark and evil.
Despite what people think, these two things aren't the same. Evil is aligned with malevolence as every emotion or feeling are aimed to harm everyone in the way. To be evil is to discard every moral and not turn back.
Inner darkness is something everyone has. The side of us we don't want people to see. However darkness isn't fully hate, malevolence or lust in Cia's case. There is loneliness, sadness, desire, and wrath for example.
Cia's role was one of loneliness as watching over the Triforce meant she wouldn't have an actual life beyond that. A task too much for a single person to bear no matter the status or power. Her affections towards Link is also plausible.
How? It's because both of them are trapped in a neverending cycle. The hero's role is something Link has to face with every incarnation. To watch the Triforce is something the original sorceress was forced to bear for eternity.
Both share the same kind of painful burden. Her hatred for Zelda is also reasonable in her eyes since every one is an incarnation of Hylia. The very goddess responsible with the burden she and Link are stuck with. Everytime the world goes to shit, Hylia never fully intervenes leaving her vessel alongside the chosen hero to handle the problem.
Ganondorf took advantage of this inner conflict to split the original sorceress in half. His influence powering Cia was guaranteed to overwhelm her good half in time which led to them splitting. Without Lana, Ganondorf had free reign to amplify the unprotected volatile emotions in her heart.
He made Cia into a puppet who couldn't recover from this forceful moral shift as her light half is now absent. Further the war progressed, I can see this behavior slowly growing worse so the corruption really didn't go from zero to 100 immediately.
Wind Waker Epilogue does give Cia the opportunity to redeem herself and make up for her actions. I don't know if the original sorceress could be remade but Lana is now there to aid her missing half. Still gonna take a long while for Cia to fully recover from Ganondorf's manipulation.
Just because she wants Link's affection during this downward spiral, I don't think she'll do some of the unhinged shit you guys think. Cia rather have the hero be willing or persuaded to join her. In case of the Dark Links, they were spawned from his own darkness.
Even the Hero's Spirit can hold contempt as it has been present with every incarnation. Knowledgeable on every Link's adventure and the curse of constant reincarnation. Cia just helped bring it to the surface.
In conclusion, the dark sorceress isn't as bad as you guys like to think. Even if my portrayal of her is gonna be slightly darker in Grudge Stained Innocence, it isn't gonna touch THAT TERRITORY of yandere.
That's all I have for now! Until next time folks, I'll see you later.

He is furious.
Volga storms into Cia’s lair, shoving monsters and minions out of his way as his gut burns with rage. His mind is focused on only one thing, and nobody dares try and stop him as he approaches the sorceress. Cia is reclining idly on a chair as he enters, but Volga is unconcerned with whatever she’s doing, striding to her side as his chest heaves with anger.
“Oh Volga, I didn’t expect you back yet,” Cia hums, sounding only mildly interested. “Was your mission a success?”
Volga glares at her.
“You knew he was my son.”
Cia slowly blinks, and she flicks her gaze up, red eyes unreadable.
“Who?”
Volga slams his spear into the floor, a snarl escaping his lips. “The Hero. He is my son. And you did not see fit to divulge this information to me.”
“Oh that,” Cia hums, resting a hand on her staff, almost casually. “It never came up.”
“He claims you told him,” Volga hisses, feeling the urge to shift into his dragon form and demand answers. “Weeks ago. You saw it fit to inform him, and yet kept this information a secret from me?”
Cia has the audacity to laugh.
“It changes nothing,” she says with a wave of her hand, meeting his gaze. I knew it would serve only as a distraction to our goals. That is why I informed him, and not you— it now consumes his thoughts, and the Sheikah leader’s as well. Their minds are filled with distractions, which makes them more susceptible to mistakes.”
She strokes a hand along the length of her staff, and her eyes flash.
“And Link is the Hero, and therefore mine. His relation to you is of no concern.”
She waves her hand in a clear dismissal, and turns back to whatever it was she was doing before.
Volga narrows his eyes, smoke trailing from his nose as he stares at her. He had not concerned himself much with Cia’s infatuation, focused only on the goals which she set before him. But now, learning his son is the object of such lust...
There is a different sort of fire in Volga’s chest now, one that he has not felt in nigh over eighteen years. Something that burns not only for himself, but for the hatchling he did not know existed until mere hours ago.
They may be enemies, but the boy is his kin.
And Cia seeks to chain him to her side, without any choice on his part.
“He is not yours,” Volga growls finally, the fire growing in his chest. “I am his kin, and therefore if he is anyone’s, he is mine. I reject your false claim on him.”
Cia’s hand tightens on her staff, and the fire in his heart stalls, a creeping fog overtaking it.
“Make no mistake, dragon,” she says in a low, cold voice. “You are only here by merit of your usefulness. And I do not tolerate meddling with what is rightfully mine.”
The fog creeps deeper, soft and inviting as it spills in. It beckons him to sink into it, but Volga resists, glaring at Cia.
“Witch,” he spits, starting the transformation into his dragon form, “you have no honor, using magic to persuade me. Curse you—”
Volga’s grip on his spear loosens, and he grunts, his transformation stopped as pain ripples up his chest and through his head. The fog follows it, dark and thick as it spills through, and the conversation and reason he had stormed in sink away into it, lost in the mists of his mind.
Cia smiles.
“Leave me, dragon. I have work to do. I will call you when I have another mission that requires your skill.”
Volga grunts again, a distant buzz of pain in his head. His anger is gone now, the fire nothing but embers whisked away by Cia’s magic, and he nods, giving the sorceress a small bow.
Then he turns and leaves the room, Cia watching him go with that same small smile.

Lu hot take, wars isn't a womanizer or even a flirt
Like c'mon Cia traumatised this poor boy, you think he'd be comfortable in a relationship again like NOTHING happened???
If anything the flirty persona he has is probably just a facade to cover up the fact that he's actually scared of being hurt like that again and doesn't want to be seen as weak? And add that on to the fact that he probably gets hit on a lot back in his era.
On top of that in the comic he literally tries to hide himself when he sees a girl at the bar (I can't remember what exactly happened but it was something like that)
In short: wars is not in fact a flirty womanizer, but a person who has a bad perception of romance because of a traumatizing experience, and see this is why I believe in Aro Ace wars supremacy
I see some stories focus on the sexual harassment nature of Cia. Any way that situation played out, I feel bad for Warriors. It probably messed things up.
I’m not getting into whether trauma affects sexual orientation

Sneaky peeky for re-redesigns of Cia from Hyrule Warriors. The sketches turned out surprisingly more elegant than they do when digital. Wish I could replicate them like this again.
