being a character person or a plot person makes such a difference in whether you like a story or not, because i don’t really think i would’ve finished the shadow and bone books — and maybe even the six of crows books — had it not been for the characters. that being said, i’m watching season 2 of shadow and bone and i’m once again absolutely fascinated by every single one of the characters. leigh bardugo had already done a fantastic job in constructing each character so delicately and the adaptation lives up to the spirit of the grishaverse books so well!!!! also i used to be very demanding of book adaptations and understanding some changes are for the better really made the experience so much more enjoyable.

Rememeber when Inej tricked Kaz into climbing onto a chapel roof with her in Crooked Kingdom and his response is “curse you and all your saints.” And then he smiles to himself without realizing it. SMILES? TO HIMSELF? What a loser. So whipped he’s out there thinking about how Inej outsmarted and smiling about it? The bastard of the barrel?? I love it when arrogant men become pathetic I miss kanej💕

my theory for soc 3 is that it's gonna open with a zoyalai wedding, and the crows are just there cause nikolai likes them, and then someone fucks up and then the plot actually starts.

Kaz hair headcanons (left to right)

Age 9 (arrival to Ketterdam) - hair cut by da, grown out since his death

Age 12 (pre-Dregs) - hasn't been cut since 9 (except trimming his bangs every once in a while to keep it out of his eyes), mainly focused on survival

Age 13 (Dregs grunt) - greater access to hair care tools, starts cutting his own hair after understanding his touch aversion, less about style and more about learning to cut hair (bangs too short due to novice skills)

Age 14 (post-bank heist) - better at cutting hair, gets his classic undercut, more about style to imitate the merchant class and look overqualified to be a Dregs lieutenant

Age 17 (present) - even better at cutting hair but still clumsy with a razor and getting the back pieces even, a bit messier due to his confidence in his position in the Dregs

The fact that a lot of the crow's main appreciation for Kaz is "I can tell him anything bc he'll still have done way worse :)" is so... lmaoo. Going to Father 'Double Digits Kill Count' Brekker for confession and he's just behind the screen playing solitaire and saying 'yeah whatever I've done worse' every few minutes. At the end he tells you it's shame that eats men whole and steals your wallet, and then you see him like two days later in a gang brawl

no because every time i see anything kaz brekker related it makes me so emotional. he’s so special to me it’s comical. because on the outside, he’s this scary looking, very non-flexible, guarded guy but deep down he cares so much about the people he loves. in fact, that is the very reason he’s become the infamous kaz brekker: he loved his brother too much and he lost him. there are so many layers to his suffering and it makes him such an interesting character. and don’t get me started on his relationship with inej because i will cry

I thought I'd never see

Inspired by the breathtaking fic save the undone years by Whitherward @whatanybodygets which is an AU about Kaz and Inej during WW1 where Kaz is a soldier and Inej is a nurse. This moment that stuck with me:

“All this waiting, and his brother appears at his bedside like a ghost in the night. [...] [Captain Reitveld] simply drops onto the edge of Kaz’s mattress and yanks him forward by the shoulders, wrapping him into a tight hug.

She sees Kaz go tense for a moment, and then relax, bury his face into his brother’s shoulder.

And then he begins to sob."
