I know I mentioned in one of my last posts that I was VERY sad at the ending of Crooked Kingdom because it ended, but here is why I still don't want a SOC 3

Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom were written 9-10 years ago at this point. That is a long time. It is very possible that Leigh Bardugo could lose grip on these characters. And if that happens, the characterizations might not be accurate, the storyline could get bad, and the book just won't feel the same as the first two. And THAT is a problem because as everyone is aware, the first two are ✨ P E R F E C T I O N ✨, I DO NOT want that sheer perfection to be ruined.

The potential death of Kaz Brekker HAUNTS me, every single second. I don't want him to die, at all. I know for sure that it will scar me way WAY worse than Matthias's death. I'll be so upset that I'll just step away from the Grishaverse. Because, you know what? Kaz doesn't deserve it. After the literal hell he's already been through, he deserves a long and happy future with Inej, not death at a young age. And his death just won't make sense either. Why would Leigh spend 2 books building up his relationship with Inej, only to kill him in the third? Then there is really no point in all that time and effort invested in their relationship.

The "Kanej Diehard Fan" in me just doesn't want a SOC 3 because she doesn't want Kanej to be hurt, which could happen. If that happens, she will be very depressed, more depressed than she already is. She wants hope and love, not more tragedy.

And besides, I've already accepted Dealing With Our Demons by @ravenyenn19 as my SOC 3.

Be prepared this fic has some wesper angst and some definite kanej angst, but there are some adorable moments. Goes into the crows friendships, especially Jesper + Inej and Kaz and Wylan (it does go into more dynamics). To finish it I will say there is a sort of ⊹hiest⊹.

Billie Eilish actually wrote Birds of a Feather with Six of Crows in mind. And Kanej. Just so we could make edits of the crows to that song. I know this cuz I am her close personal friend and she told me.

The most interesting, and most amazing detail within Mina's letter is how different she presents her future marriage with Jonathan, on top of having very different priorities regarding work.

Mina is very happy to marry Jonathan along with already planning what changes are going to be put in place once both say yes at the altar, and in her enthusiastic letter to Lucy she details all of her current priorities before that important moment. However, as many as you may noticed, those priorities don't really... Fall in line with what is supposed to be expected from the time.

There is not a single metion of children, housework skills, or any comment about the transition from employment to wife duties from Mina. Instead, we read of she is proudly cultivating skills like stenography, typewriting, journalism, and shorthand so she and Jonathan can share the workload that comes from a solicitor position.

I don't mean one of those two-pages-to-the-week-with-Sunday-squeezed-in-a-corner diaries, but a sort of journal which I can write in whenever I feel inclined.

The time frame of this book lands in the 19th century, when women couldn't be both married and have a job at the same time, but Mina doesn't mourn that. She prepares for a future in which her, and Jonathan are in a partnership of equal standing where both will help eachother in a job that Jonathan has been preparing for god knows how long.

It's not an "if they can", it's a "when", and I find that very beautiful.

He sleeps may 6th away.

On may 8th, after having spent less than 24h total in his host's presence, Jonathan realizes he is a prisonner, and immediately takes steps to ensure his survival. He is fully aware that he is in danger -though not quite what sort yet, is actively trying to save himself, recognizes the help of all the villagers who tried to save him, and has decided that he will survive this damn castle.

Jonathan Harker is not an oblivious idiot. Jonathan Harker took less than THREE DAYS to acknowledge the danger he is in, and start making plans to save himself. Jonathan Harker is a smart young man with a kind heart and the makings of a Final Girl and in this essay I will-
