Btw ages ago I came up with a Scarian au where Scar is of course the mayor of a lovely city. He's quite wealthy too - before his venture into politics he designed the very successful Scarland theme park, which rejuvenated the city's economy and boosted his own pockets too. He's very active in the community and generally beloved by the people.
He is also secretly HotGuy, the city's vigilante superhero, using his wealth from Scarland and his connections as mayor to try to untangle the mess of corruption and organized crime throughout the city! And also like, saving cats from atop trees and things if he happens to come across those too. The city however has recently become host to a deathly parasite, the lethally beautiful Mother Spore. Because she's an independent villain, HotGuy has no way to anticipate her attacks and just has to drop everything when she starts to try to take over another city block or something.
However, HotGuy is not the only person running around the city with a mask and a dream! There's one character who's known just as much for his menace as for his heroism: Poultry Man! Poultry Man may not be a villain, but far be it from him to veer away from pranks or minor shoplifting. HotGuy has chased him down after catching him egging buildings or nicking treats he didn't pay for, but he's also shown up to help HotGuy pull survivors out of the water when there was a terrible bridge collapse, or help break up fights that start to get too violent.
And then, of course, there's the final masked figure in HotGuy's career: his sidekick, CuteGuy! He simply appeared one day, kitted out in military grade weapons and body armor spray-painted pink and white, complete with frills and bows and bullets, asking how he can help. HotGuy is skilled at combat and firing his bow, but CuteGuy is on another level. For some reason, he follows HotGuy's every command to a T, never taking the lead despite obviously having extensive experience. Despite his compliance, he refuses to discuss his past or identity.
Somehow, though, none of these three characters are ever in the same place. If Mother Spore is ravaging a street, Poultry Man doesn't make a peep, and CuteGuy never comes to HotGuy's aid. Poultry Man always gets away with his pilfered knickknacks before CuteGuy arrives, and so on and so forth. And you see, Scar is no fool. He knows all three's secret identities - or rather, identity.
[More under cut]
It is none other than one of Scar's long-time friends and neighbor: Grian.
Grian has known Scar since his dreams for Scarland were nothing more than doodles in his teenage sketchbook. He adores knitting, baking, and taking his cats (however unwillingly) on walks outside. Scar moved into the mayoral home when he was elected, but he still owns his old house right next door to Grian's. Grian is a cheery architect who proudly boasts about being Scar's friend.
And Scar has no doubt in his mind he is also secretly terrorizing the innocent people around him, and that he has both attempted to kill, protect, and annoy Scar as HotGuy on countless occasions.
...Okay, he doesn't know WHY Grian is doing that, or... how, but it HAS to be him! He swears all of their voices are the same, and even with the different masks on they all look exactly like him! And, he's never seen any two of them in one place! Scar is sure Grian's innocent civilian facade is nothing more than that.
It also explains some things: Mother Spore's flirtatious remarks whenever they fight, Poultry Man's annoying cackling when he leads Scar on another chase across town, and CuteGuy's insistence on keeping him alive and following him like a shadow.
Grian and Scar used to be close. But as Scar's life got more complicated, he had less and less time to spend with his friends.
As baffling as it is, Scar is certain that while he was gone Grian became a supervillain of epic proportions, and he's probably only just begun toying with HotGuy and the rest of the city for his own amusement.
...
The truth is Scar is completely wrong!
Grian, Mother Spore, Poultry Man, and CuteGuy are, legitimately, four different people (or entities, looking at Mother Spore) who have never met.
Or, well, that depends on your definition of "met". :)

yet another fanfic for the cat dad au. hotguy admits his feelings for ariana griande on live tv. it all works out in the end
A crash sounds through the flat, followed by quick steps and the slamming of a door.
Sitting on the floor assembling a jigsaw, Ariana sees Kitten's ears perk up. A moment later, the eyes follow, snapping upwards, pupils dilating. She knows what it means. Scar is home, and Kitten is excited.
And so is she.
She walks out into the hall, ready to greet her friend, but there’s no one to greet. Instead, shoes are strewn on the floor, a jacket thrown haphazardly beside them, and Scar is nowhere to be seen.
Confused, she looks over to her left—and the door to Scar’s room is closed. That’s a thing that doesn’t happen often, so she’s immediately worried.
Peeking out from behind her legs, Kitten asks, “Where’s Scar?”
He sounds disappointed. Ariana crouches down to his level and curls her fingers around his head. Kitten immediately leans into her touch, closing his eyes.
“Why don’t you go and work on that puzzle, huh, kitty?” she says, gently scratching behind his ear. “Scar will come back and be amazed by the progress you’ve made.”
Nodding eagerly, Kitten brushes up against her a couple of times and races back to his jigsaw.
Standing up, Ariana smiles fondly before pausing to check her phone. She hasn’t touched it all day, too busy hanging out with Kitten to care about the usual stream of notifications, but clearly something happened at Scar’s work and it would be a good idea to try and find out what before she actually talks to him—
The smile slips.
As a public figure, she always has her notifications muted. Right now, she doesn't know whether that's a blessing or a curse, because her phone is blowing up.
Fumbling with her pockets, she fishes her earphones out and unties them as fast as possible, jamming an earbud into her ear and clicking on the first clip she can find.
She's met with the sight of flashing lights and gathering crowds, and immediately Ariana feels her heart skip a beat when Scar comes into view. Dressed as Hotguy, he's radiant as ever, and no amount of seeing him can stop every look from feeling as if it's the first one.
Shaking herself out of her lovesick thoughts, she tunes into the audio—just in time to hear a reporter ask, "Hotguy, what can you say about your relationship with Ariana Griande?"
Oh. Oh stars.
"M-my what?"
"Well, you're together, aren't you?"
A step back.
"I—I don't know what you're talking about."
"Come on,” the reporters smile. “It's clear from the way you look at her. You love her, don't you?"
"No, I—"
"Hotguy, your feelings towards Ariana have never been a secret. So come on, the public wants to know—who asked who out?"
Hotguy takes another step back, looking uncomfortable.
"Uh—no one asked anyone out. She doesn't—we're just friends."
"Friends don't look at each other the way you look at her. There's no way you two aren't dating."
Lights flash and Hotguy shrinks in on himself, hands coming up to fiddle with his necklace.
"No, we aren't—we're not dating. We're not."
"It's obvious you are, though. You can keep your secrets, Hotguy, but the fans know—"
"Look, you can say what you want about me, but don't touch her, okay?” he finally snaps. “It doesn't matter if I'm in love with her, she doesn't feel the same, and I'm not going to stand for you all spreading lies about her."
"So you do love her?"
"I—I—"
The clip ends there.
Despite her composed nature, a stutter goes through her chest.
She knew that Scar had a crush on her—it's hard not to pick up some things, with how flustered he acts around her—but this is different. Hearing Scar admit it, especially like that—and he said he loved her. The word he used was love.
Ariana doesn't think anyone's ever used that word for her and meant it.
Putting her phone away, she takes a breath to calm herself and walks up to Scar's door. Her emotions are all over the place, but she knows above everything that she has to talk to him—now.
Unsurprisingly, a knock yields no reaction, and after taking another deep breath, she spreads her fingers and pushes the door open.
Inside, it's empty, save for a Scar-shaped lump of blankets that makes warmth grow in her chest as she approaches it. Sitting on the edge of the bed, Ariana places a hand on the lump and it jerks, making a weak attempt to scoot away.
"Scar," she says softly, rubbing his arm.
For a moment, the lump is silent. Then a tiny voice mumbles, "I'm gonna drown myself."
Amused but also concerned, she asks, "Why would you do that?"
Scar doesn't answer. Instead, he burrows deeper into the blankets. Ariana gets the sense that he's trying to make himself look like he's not there.
If so, he's failing miserably. He'll never stop being there for her.
"Scar."
There is a long moment of silence, in which Ariana can feel her concern growing. Being forced to reveal a secret is never fun (even if it was only ever a secret to one person), and especially on live TV—
She tries her best to ignore the butterflies fluttering about her stomach. Looking at the man before her, she thinks she still fails.
Finally, the silence is broken, "Just go away."
"Why?"
Scar sits up, swivels around to face her and starts to explain, hands thrusting up and down, "Because I'm pathetic. And I know you agree, and so do I, I think so too, and it's okay if you leave."
Listening to his frenzied stammering, Ariana feels a tentative, trembling kind of elation start to blossom in her throat.
"I'd prefer that, in fact," Scar continues, unaware as her fingers start to shake, "it would be better than this, than pretending that you don't hate me when I know you do, why wouldn't you, after what you just found out—"
"Scar," she cuts him off. "I'm not leaving."
"But—"
Ariana grabs his face with both her hands and kisses him.
Scar freezes. Slowly, his hands come up to weakly grapple at her arms and she feels his entire body shudder in her hold. He doesn’t make an attempt to pull away, however, and so she stays as she is, mouth pressed to his, joy growing in her lungs.
The kiss lasts for only a few moments, but it might as well be eons before they break apart. Inhaling, tasting Scar’s breath on her tongue, she opens her eyes and looks.
Scar’s face is soft, eyelashes still half-lowered, previously unseen freckles standing out on his cheeks—by the stars, Ariana has never been more in love. Tucking a strand of hair behind his ear, she finally says, a tinge of humour entering her voice, “Maybe the reporters were right after all.”
Breaking out of the love-induced trance, Scar giggles softly, “You can’t say that.”
“I’m Ariana Griande, I can say whatever I want.”
“Yeah,” he breathes, staring unabashedly at her lips. “You can.”
Ariana goes to kiss him again, but he catches her wrists in his hands.
“You’re sure?” he asks, and suddenly he looks painfully uncertain. She knows that Scar doesn’t think he deserves anything good, and it’s clear that he’s having trouble believing that this is real.
She’ll do whatever it takes to disprove him of that notion until it may as well have never existed.
“I’m sure.”
Scar relaxes and presses his forehead to hers. She wants to feel his lips on hers again, but she leans closer to him and contents herself with the heat of his breath against her open mouth, the pressure of his hands that come to settle on her waist.
A soft purring reaches her ears and she smiles. Kitten must be delighted.
And stars, so is she.

fanfic about a hotguy au where scar and grian are friends, grian is a reporter and hates hotguy with a passion. scar isn't okay.
happier than ever
Scar knew that being a hero would entail many things and he made sure to anticipate everything. He expected the criticism and hate and death threats and he applied, anyway, because he knew that he was capable of taking it all.
It's one thing to talk to annoying reporters and read internet posts, though. When your best friend shares those opinions, then it becomes quite another.
featuring: scar crying at the dinner table, aka the sole purpose of writing this.

was thinking of hotguy crying during an interview and the first thing that occurred to me is in the setting of my hotguy mindfuckery au.
so after everything that's happened and with his name cleared, obviously the people want to hear his side of the story, right. so scar starts to explain how everyone thought he was lying but he wasn't, how it was his brother. and he starts to talk about what happened to him in the mental hospital.
and he can feel himself getting emotional recounting all of it, all the awful shit that happened to him. and he doesn't want to be, they don't deserve his tears, not after all they did. they were the ones who caused this, they have no right to his pain. but he can't stop it. and he wants to leave, but he has to let them know. has to show them that he's real and he's hurt and they did this, they did this. so he's full on crying at this point and he's still trying to speak through his tears, because he needs to clear his name.
imagine how that would look. just, this man that was vilified for the better part of a year - and now here he is, broken, traumatised, hair short and thinner than he was a year ago, sobbing and still trying desperately to speak, talking about the most awful shit that no one should have to go through.
it would be the most heartbreaking thing. and i think until this point, the vast majority of the public still hated him, they thought he lied and bribed to get out of responsibility. but now, now they see that the man who they spread vile hate about for an entire year is actually miserable and broken and a shell of the happy person he used to be.
and that's when some people start to realise, they hurt him. they did this.
and imagine how scar would end that interview. like, his mask is off because he's not planning on being hotguy ever again, so they can see everything. tears dripping off his face, his eyes red, the picture of misery, everything. and he just ends with "you did this. you. did. this." and he tries to sound strong, but he just breaks off into more tears at the end. and then he leaves. and he doesn't show up at any interviews after that. the last image the public has of him is him crying while recounting his trauma. but it's enough.

so in my au scar gets sent to a mental hospital and they forcibly cut his hair off, right. and then he escapes and his name gets cleared and everything. and obviously he's all over the internet, disgraced hero now exonerated and proven to have been impersonated and all that.
and naturally people start wondering what happened to his hair. because you know, hotguy has a mental breakdown and disappears off the face of the earth, then returns but now with short hair, that's bound to pique someone's curiosity. so there's all sorts of speculation regarding why he'd get rid of his luscious waist-length hair, articles comparing long haired him to short haired him, polls that are like "which hotguy do you prefer?", everything.
and scar has to see all that. to know that what for him was an incredibly traumatic and humiliating experience, is nothing more than a style choice to everyone else. he has to see all these awful posts that are like "but i preferred hotguy with long hair!11!11" and it's like. he can't help it. the choice was literally taken from him.
and scar wants his long hair back. and he can't have that obviously. and maybe he'd like to try to accept his short hair, try to look in the mirror and see himself instead of a broken, traumatised shell of a person. but the short hair is just another thing that signifies that he's not the same as he was, another reminder of what happened to him that is constantly being thrown in his face because nobody wants to just let it go.
he wants to just forget everything that's happened to him. he wants to move on. but he can't, because he's being reminded of his past at every turn. and the hair is just the tip of the iceberg.

i really really want to write that hotguy major character death au where cuteguy dies
i want to explore what it's like to grieve for someone as a famous person. because society puts expectations on famous people in literally anything and everything, and grief is no exception. so i want to see scar deal with having his grief put on display, with trying to move on when the world around him won't let him.
i'm also interested in the circumstances surrounding cuteguy's death and how they'd affect scar's mourning. because if cuteguy died, then he died on a mission, which means that scar would definitely blame himself. it gets even worse if scar genuinely made a mistake that cost cuteguy his life.
then there's the question of what he does after. after cuteguy's death, scar probably doesn't want to be a hero ever again. maybe he can't trust himself to be one. after all, if he couldn't even save his partner, then how can he trust himself to save anyone else?
the problem is, after so many years, scar can't see himself not being hotguy. in losing his partner, scar also lost his life as he knew it. he doesn't know where he's going, he's lost and he doesn't know what to do with his life, if it's even a life worth living.
so maybe, craving a sense of normalcy, scar does stay as hotguy. maybe he convinces himself that it's what cuteguy would have wanted, maybe he even makes it his mission to get revenge on cuteguy's killer.
the memories would not leave him in that case. it would be such an adjustment, to work alone again, and it would hurt so much more every time scar calls out for cuteguy to cover him, only to remember - there's no one there. cuteguy is gone.
and then imagine this - scar is sad, he's tired, he feels like he's dreaming every second of the day - of course that's gonna have an impact on his capability as a hero. it soon becomes extremely apparent that he needs help. so whatever organisation he's working for decides to intervene - and they assign him a new sidekick.
scar would absolutely hate them. he would hate everyone - the organisation, the people, everyone who decided that because cuteguy was a sidekick, it meant that he wasn't a real hero. everyone who decided that he deserved to be forgotten.
so yeah. i might actually write this. i love major character death aus, they're so beautifully awful

so remember when scar just got back from empires and he kept missing all his shots. well, there’s so many angst possibilities in this actually.
like maybe hotguy really is just out of practice after going on vacation or something. and he’s unmotivated because of it, so he needs someone to convince him that no, he hasn’t lost his touch, this is nothing that some practice won’t fix.
but maybe he has lost his touch. because, you know, people age and bodies change, you can’t do the same things you were able to do a decade ago. and so he reaches that point that every professional sports player does, when you start getting more tired, your skill level starts dropping and you have to slowly accept the fact that maybe it’s time to retire.
but the thing is, this is more than just a sport. for him, and for society at large, being a hero is a moral obligation. you can’t just retire from doing good things. obviously when you do sports for a living, the pressure is also incredibly high, since you’re representing an entire city, or country, or whatever. plus some sports fans can be fucking toxic. but this is more than that. because due to the nature of his job, in his eyes and in the eyes of society his status as a good person is intrinsically rooted in whether he can be a hero or not.
we all know that aging is not allowed in our society. so imagine the articles. “hotguy lost his touch?” and “favourite hero retiring?” and “the recent failures of hotguy: can you trust the number one superhero to save you?” and whatever else. there’s people ridiculing him, making compilations of his missed shots, calling for his retirement, accusing him of being lazy. and scar doesn’t know what they want from him. they’re so mad at him for not doing a good job at being a hero, yet they’re...saying that he’s a bad person if he decides to not be a hero?
so he tries his best to be as perfect as he can possibly be. practicing tirelessly, overworking himself, maybe eating less because what if his problem is just that he’s gained weight? we all know how unforgiving our society is to people who “let themselves go” in any capacity. so scar does everything to become better at what he does, to retain his old skill - and it doesn’t work. imagine the self-loathing and bone-deep frustration he’d experience. he feels like he’s losing himself; if he’s not ridiculously good with a bow, then who is he?
and maybe then scar royally fucks up on a mission and someone suffers because of it. the backlash is overwhelming so he decides to quit and erase any evidence of his existence before he can be fired. and it’s all over the news, obviously. and he’s no longer hotguy, but this is him they’re talking about. he has to read and listen to all that, every article and every last insult sent his way. and he has to blame himself, to grapple with the fact that this is not just a natural progression of anyone’s life but his failing, that he is a bad person, that he just didn’t try hard enough and let everyone down.
and he has to adjust to a normal person’s life. maybe it was known that he was good with a bow since he was a kid, so he just never bothered learning to do anything else. and he now has to find something else that he enjoys and is good at. and he genuinely misses being hotguy, he misses shooting, but he doesn’t think he can ever touch a bow again now that he’s not the best of the best. scar thought he knew who he was, and now he’s grown older and he has to find himself all over again.
idk, i just like the idea of someone being good at something and then having to come to terms with the fact that that skill doesn’t last forever. i also love exploring aging and how it affects people, in a society where you’re taught that youth is the only thing you’re good for.
