The Art of Setting Boundaries and Not Feeling Guilty About It
Recently I have been debating, or rather beating myself up about my recent actions against my neighbours. I have reported them to our landlord about 3 times now because their dogs and cats are regularly running loose in my garden, now our landlords have a strict policy on being responsible pet owners, they are not allowed to let their dogs run loose, they’re not allowed to let their pets be a…

Ok so vampire boxboy right but prefacing some things, in this vampires can eat normal food too, most prefer a strictly blood based diet. Eating normal food can keep them alive if they dont feed every day. For example, if only blood, need to feed once a day to stay healthy but if eating food too then they can only drink blood once a week and stay healthy. They aren’t quite as fast or strong as the vampires that are blood based but still much faster and stronger than humans.

039 whimpered as it’s box was jerked aggressively forwards, slamming the small pet head first into the wall. Fear gripped it’s chest as one of the delivery men smacked the side of it’s box sharply.
Pet whined softly through the muzzle in fear. It was so scared it could barely think straight. 039 held back another noise as the box was dropped to the ground by the man.
He knocked harshly on the door of the pet’s new home. 039 squirmed slightly to get back in the proper position. It was hard to breath in the stuffy box, even harder through the muzzle. However, neither stopped it’s breath quite like hearing the door open did.
The delivery man and it’s new master exchanged some words and suddenly it was being moved again. Into the house and set down easier this time.
A few minutes passed before the it’s master began to pry the lid of the box off.
“Well, aren’t you a pretty boy.” She said with a sweet voice.
Pet looked up at her, trying to make itself look as appealing as possible from it’s current position. Mistress was beautiful! She looked to be mid twenties, still several years older than the pet. She had long blonde hair and had a large light green T-shirt on that went down far enough to conceal her shorts.
“C’mon, let’s get you outta there.”she said with a small smile and reached out to 039. It set it’s hand gently in hers and got up shakily, without placing any pressure on her hand. Pet stepped out of the box carefully and sank to it’s knees.
“Okay! Let’s see here.” She hums to herself as she reaches into the box and grabs the pet manual.
“Mhmm, ok so imma get ya some water. Then i have to bathe you? Can’t you do that yourself? Oh goodness, i should take that horrible thing off of you first.” She says dropping the manual to the ground.
Mistress steps towards pet and it bows it’s head to bare the lock at the base of it’s neck to her.
“ oh, it’s a number lock? What do i put in it? It didn’t say, do you know?” She asks pet as she kneels down to eye level.
Pet nods slowly, eyeing her cautiously.
“What is it then?” She asks tilting her head to the side.
Pet moves to show her the patch on the sleeve of it’s white shirt where it had pet’s designated number in large numbers.
“Is that it? Jeez they give you guys big numbers huh? I wonder how they pick out what number to give ya? Like there’s no way you’re the … 345,7039th pet they’ve sold?” She rambled as she put the number into the padlock.
“Here ya go hun” she hums pulling the muzzle away from it’s face gently. Mistress gasped as she saw the red indentations on pet’s cheeks from how tight the leather was. Pet whimpered softly as it opened it’s aching jaw to release the bit from between it’s remaining teeth.
“Oh my god what did they do to your teeth?!” She cries making pet flinch. Mistress reaches out and grabs pet’s chin, gently guiding it to open it’s mouth again. 039 obeyed, opening it’s mouth to show the holes in it’s gums where it’s canines used to be. But 039 hadn’t ever exactly had normal canine teeth there.
“Jesus! I know you’re a vampire and shit but what the fuck?!” She cries, releasing him.
039 panicked and bowed it’s body into the respect position. Pressing it’s forehead to the floor before it’s mistress’s feet.
“I’m not upset at you hun. It’s okay, here sit up. There ya go, good job.”
“When did they pull them out? I’m positive they didn’t give you any pain relievers, did they? Poor thing. Does it hurt?” She fawned over him, kneeling in front of him again.
“M-my handlers pulled my teeth before shipping mistress. A-and pain is what i’m made for, mistress.” 039 answers her questions and thinks back over her quick words, making sure it didn’t miss a question. “A-and no ma’am I’m not worthy of pain relievers” it quickly adds.
“Oh baby, c’mon, lets go to the kitchen. Get you some cold water, that sounds nice doesn’t it? Surely you’re parched.” She hums and stands, pet following closely behind her movements.
Pet is happy that mistress is taller than her pet. It never quite looks right when a pet is taller than it’s master, unnatural even. But that may be the point if you think about it.
Pet follows through the house, trying it’s best to memorize the direction so it won’t get lost later. Mistress’s house is fairly large.
Once in the kitchen, pet stands nervously off to the side, out of the way.
“Here, drink slowly or you’ll get a brain freeze. I hate getting those! I got a really bad one last week while eating ice cream but god, i love ice cream! My favorite flavor is probably rocky road or vanilla. Everyone always hates on vanilla but i like it cause you put a buncha stuff on it! You can make it whatever flavor you want. Whats your favorite kindof ice cream?” She says as she hands pet the glass of cold water and sits in a bar stool, continuing to talk to the pet.
“I-uhm I don’t remember what ice cream tastes like, mistress. I’m sorry” pet says and bows it’s head to her in apology, feeling as if it had done something wrong.
“What?! Oh this simply will not do! We’re gonna change that right now!” She tells pet and gets up off of her stool, going and getting something out of the refrigerator.
Mistress comes back and stands at the bar in front of pet at pulls the lid off of a tub full of brown and white swirled ice cream.
She whirls around quickly and holds out a spoonful to the pet. Pet looks quickly up at her and leans forward, taking the spoon into his mouth while looking up at her sweetly.
As the flavor explodes it’s mouth, the pets eyes cross and come down to look at the edge of the spoon in surprise.
“Good innit?” She smiles
Pet nods with the spoon still in its mouth. It pulls back a bit, taking the ice cream with it. Pet suckles on the cold clump of sweetness setting on its tongue.
“You like it?” She laughs
Pet nods quickly and looks up at her with gratitude evident in it’s face.
“Hmm and you know not to talk with your mouth full. Good, i really didn’t want to train you on manners. That’s where Max had gone wrong, he just wouldn’t learn manners. I was kinda sad that Sam had to get rid of him but like, if you’re gonna say you’ll be good then do it, you know?” She commented.
Pet swallowed nervously, effectively getting rid of the remaining ice cream on it’s tongue.
“Yes mistress. I value manners highly and hope that i may please you in every way ma’am. My entire being is devoted solely to serving and obeying you, mistress.” Pet said as it knelt before it’s master and lowered its head in a show of respect.
“i think you could shape up to be a pretty good pet. You probably wanna know your rules and stuff right?”
“If that would please mistress” 039 answers gently.
“Mkay. And ill write them down so you don’t forget anything.” She hums and stands, pet quickly backing up to stay out of her way.
“I cannot read, mistress” pet says, glancing up at her.
“Really? Why not? Even Max could read and he was about as dumb as a rock. How long have you been alive? Like jeez they must have picked you up off of the streets.” She complains as she plops back into her chair.
“Reading is an ability that the WRU has recently deemed unnecessary and have began to remove from pets unless requested otherwise.” 039 recites.
“Oh. Well. Ok then. I guess you will just have to remember everything yourself then. Can you do that?”
“I will try my hardest to obey every word, mistress.” Pet says focusing hard. 039 will do anything for it’s owner and is prepared to prove it.

A-T-3 080 James Ingram - Yah Mo B There (John "Jellybean" Benitez 12'' Remix)
Picking up from where I left my short history of reissue labels in the age of Record Shop Day (which are all reissues in some form or other) and back catalogues (legacy records) making up 75% of all US album sales
In 1990 CBS brought back it’s Legacy label, CBS was acquired by Sony the following year and Legacy serves as the reissue label for Sony and all its labels
1991 Beechwood music launched it’s highly successful Mastercuts series, their promise “Mastercuts will cover all areas of music and endeavour to provide a higher standard of track listings, quality music and packaging. Conceived and compiled with love by Ian Dewhirst.” The first three in the Mastercuts series were:
Classic Mix Mastercuts volume 1
Classic Jazz-Funk Mastercuts volume 1
Classic Mellow Mastercuts volume 1
They were all compiled by northern soul dj Ian Dewhirst but as the catalogue grew other djs were brought in, Greg Wilson did Classic Electro, Dave Lee Classic Disco, Paul "Trouble" Anderson Classic House Volume 2, Dez Parkes Classic Rare Groove Volume 2, and on and on. The selections crossed over with Street Sounds, especially the Street Sounds Anthems series but the sleeve notes were a little better and they were spread over 2xLP, this was reflected in the price. I remember Mastercuts being more expensive compilations. With the success of Mastercuts, Beechwood would reissue Street Sounds Anthems series in the mid 1990s. Beechwood acted as distributed for BBE and Ian Dewhirst would become a record exec working for reissue labels S12, Suss’d, and Harmless
Blue Note’s Blue Break Beat series began in 1992, the quality of the package had improved with extensive sleeve notes thanks to being compiled by Dean Rudland and Eddie Piller of Acid Jazz Records and coming from mind of Giles Peterson (BGP, Acid Jazz, Talkin’ Loud) The popularity of the compilations led to reissues of the Blue Note street funk albums by Donald Byrd, Grant Green, Richard "Groove" Holmes, Jimmy McGriff et al
Polydor parent PolyGram (Polydor and Phonogram) launch its Chronicles series in 1992 to issue anthologies and expanded reissues like Yes We Can ...And Then Some by Lee Dorsey. Funk Essentials was an offshoot of Chronicles, the Parliament, Kool And The Gang, Barry White, Gap Band anthologies are all excellent as they often included rarer, funkier tracks and extended and instrumental mixes. Chronicles would become a label in its own right handling reissues for all labels under the Universal Music umbrella, like Motown Deluxe Editions
1992 also saw the record shop Sounds Of The Universe reissue 1974 soul-jazz album Fresh Out by Eddie Russ on their new label Soul Jazz. Soul Jazz would go above and beyond when it came to sleeve notes, sometimes this would extend to a book and film, they set the standard
The following year Blood & Fire would launch their reissue and anthology label. Blood & Fire was loved for it’s high quality releases, great packaging, great sleeve notes, and great selections. Each Blood & Fire released was a premium product
James Ingram - Yah Mo B There (John "Jellybean" Benitez 12'' Remix) is track 1 on the first Mastercuts compilation, Classic Mix. This classic mix is by John "Jellybean" Benitez (A-T-2 123 A-T-2 283 A-T-3 039) and Yah Mo B There was written by Rod Temperton, Quincy Jones, Michael McDonald, and James Ingram, with Quincy Jones producing

"The Cadillac of buckets."
“The Cadillac of buckets.”
OK. I can’t stop thinking about the Yeti bucket. I’m not even going to put up a link, it sickens me. The “YETI LoadOut 5 Gallon Bucket” is basically a 5 gallon bucket that cost $40.00. That’s right FORTY FUCKING DOLLARS. According to reviews it’s “The Cadillac of buckets.” “The bucket to end all buckets” These people. 40 of your American dollars is the base price, if you want one with all the…

Can’t live with them… No, I mean seriously, I can’t stand living with them. I haven’t talked about it in a while, and have never really gone into too much detail about the situation, but I live with my sister and niece. Actually, I guess I should say that they live with me (even though it feels like more of the former than the latter), they moved into my place about a year and a half ago.

A bit if good news (hopefully not the last)
So my new boss arrived on island a few days ago to introduce himself to the airfield team. I went up, I didn’t want to dump this on him on his first day out but it needed to be done, I informed him of the issues I had with my abuser at the workplace and the total lack of communication from my employer (the council).
He got his teeth stuck into it, spoke to his boss, who did some digging with HR…

A-T-3 098 Algorithm & Blues Pt.2
Let's start with a story. In the mid 1970s New York City ran out of cash and in the Bronx landlords were setting fire residential buildings in order to get the insurance, giving it the name the burnt down Bronx. The Bronx looked like a war zone, it had been abandoned by the city and given up to adolescent street gangs. This is where Kool Herc began throwing parties. Lance Taylor was a "warlord" in the Black Spades gang, on his return to the Bronx after visiting Africa and meeting Zulu chieftains he changed his name to Afrika Bambaataa and transformed the Black Spades into the Universal Zulu Nation. Rival gangs showed up at Herc's parties which led to violence so Bam stepped in and organised a truce between the gangs convincing them to put down their guns and begin dancing. Breakdancing was born. "The roots of break dancing are steeped in hostility and frustration searching for a means of expression. Breaking was a way to cope and resolve gang quarrels. Ultimately, it became a mechanism of truce between rival gangs." The dance comes from mimicking kung fu movies, originally learned to defend yourself from rival gangs and evolved into the complex and athletic moves that characterise modern breakdancing
The above is a 'narrative'
Narratives can be used to simplify, package, promote, or discard complex phenomena, it’s also a way of making a thing palatable for mainstream culture or the dominant ideology, in this case white middle-class America
The story of breakdancing channelling from gang violence is deeply embedded in hip-hop history. Institutions like the International Olympic Committee and BBC adopt this story because it promotes the values they want to associate themselves with
Of course it's completely fabricated and unsubstantiated by the accounts of people who were there. In a 2019 article in the Journal of Black Studies Serouj Aprahamian disputes this story on the grounds of the reliability of the sources, and goes on to "discuss how the prevalence of this false narrative in studies of hip-hop history overall is part of a broader historic pattern of associating working class African American culture with criminality." - lets not forget Latinos, please
"The Bronx was truly a concrete jungle yet it was there in the middle
of “gorilla warfare” that Hiphop Culture was born." This is from an article on the birth of hip-hop, "concrete jungle" and "gorilla warfare," not guerrilla, that's a Freudian slip if ever I saw one, shameful stuff
DJ Scratch DJ for EPMD, Busta Rhymes producer
Afrika Bambaataa is central to the hip-hop history narrative and the breakdance story could very well originate from him. I've written about his erasure from the hip-hop story since having to decide what to do myself when celebrating the seminal Planet Rock (A-T-2 039 A-T-2 387 A-T-3 039). Afrika Bambaataa has been accused of raping children and sex trafficking. Here's an article published by Rolling Stone yesterday about protests outside the Universal Hip-Hop Museum over it's connections with Afrika Bambaataa https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/afrika-bambaataa-abuse-allegations-bronx-universal-hip-hop-museum-1234705041/
The other week Crazy Legs of the Bboy crew Rock Steady Crew and perhaps the most famous breakdancer alive was on Drink Champs. He also dismissed the truce narrative and much more https://youtu.be/7arNsMJg-Wg. Crazy Legs has been accused of sexually harass women himself, the allegations don't come up and he doesn't talk about Afrika Bambaataa, but he mentions his participation in the Universal Zulu Nation a lot
The B Boys - Rock The House The B Boys follow-up to Two, Three, Break (below). The B Boys were a studio group put together by producer and label boss Vincent Davis. The original lineup included Guy Vaughn programming the drums and Chuck Chill Out on the turntables, for Rock The House Donald D is on the mic. The B Boys records hold a special place in the UK because Morgan Khan released them here on his Streetwave label and Two, Three, Break and Cuttin' Herbie appear on Street Sounds Electro 2
The B Boys - Two, Three, Break The Classic! Chuck Chill Out (Charles Turner) would come back to this under his new stage name DJ Born Supreme Allah with Two, Three, Break (Part II - The Sequel) in 1985 which made it on to Street Sounds Electro 10. DJ Born Supreme Allah also began the Hip-Hop On Wax series in 1984

In The Air Tonight...
In The Air Tonight…
“No no, it was two little nigger boys from Folsom…” My apologies. I’ve taken some time away from writing, I’m a little rusty. I know that normally when you start stories out with the ending it doesn’t end well. However, at the risk of being anticlimactic, I can’t think of another way to start this off. That line, not the conversation that preceded it, or the events that surrounded it, but that…
