god Nicole Brennan wanted to Live. I can’t stop thinking about it. In the comics she’s trying so desperately to find a cure to the spread of the necromorph contagion. In the remake she’s tracking down Unitologist research to figure out why the outbreak is happening in the first place. She’s always so, so driven. Both times she tries and fails and tries again. Both times she eventually figures it all out, and in doing so, realizes her situation is utterly hopeless. She gives herself an air embolism. Maybe it’s a mercy, though her corpse is nowhere to be found in the med bag, which means the Marker reanimated her and used her biomass anyway. Even in death she wasn’t allowed to escape the outbreak. It’s so fuckin’ bleak. Nicole was driven and quick on her feet and so, so smart. It doesn’t save her.

Still thinking about Paige Guthrie and how she wasn’t parentfied like her brothers were, but she was convinced that her worth is entirely tied up in how useful she is. No, she doesn’t feel responsible for everyone’s emotional wellbeing. Yes, she does think that if she manages to study enough chemistry to almost have the equivalent to a bachelor’s degree that Sean Cassidy will pay more attention to her. Maybe, if she pushes herself to be the best X-Man she can be, she’ll finally have the family she’s always dreamed about. All her teammates think it’s so funny/annoying that Paige studies all the time, and then you find out that what Paige really wants is to not have to work so hard anymore.
