#i don't really watch any of the hermit livestreams
Text
I’m just scrolling the Bdubs mini-trend on twitter and it’s like people freaking out over him learning what a keysmash is or what weird fandom vocab is, but like you fools. Let him continue. Let him learn the weird fandom things.
You just know he’s eventually going to start saying those things on the server at least a little and we’ll get to watch the occasional confusion of other not terminally-online(affectionate) hermits who don’t understand why on EARTH Bdubs just typed “ajljkkjlask” in chat when they died to a creeper, or why Bdubs called their frog a “scrunkle” and then flew away without an explanation.

If in the modern age, what tf2 characters do you think would use tiktok? Sorry im trying to think of an epic question but thats all i can imagine
don't apologize because i clearly had too much fun with this
scout without a doubt. im Not on tiktok so all i know about it from watching commentary youtubers talk about shit i dont care about in the background while i do other stuff, but he would absolutely get sucked into that weird NPC trend. I can see him watching it for hours, then deciding he'd be suuuuper popular if he did it. He does get super popular but its only because people make a game of getting him to break character which is super easy and happens constantly. he's constantly getting into fights with people and is only popular because he becomes this big punching bag laughing stock. Scout of course has no idea about this and thinks he's Finally Made It as an influencer until admin finds out he's been livestreaming from the base and has him shot live on stream and has all traces of his account scrubbed (though some people still got screen recordings) and it becomes this sort of internet true crime obsession for years.
I think Pyro downloaded it to play with filters and got sad when they didn't work on the gas mask. i could see them having a 'does it burn' type channel where the ending clip no matter what it started with or how small it was is always a massive inferno with their thumbs up in the corner and people go wild for it
I think medic would have fun doing tiktok dances and pretending to be a real doctor while telling people that actually *extremely dangerous health hazard* is not only completely safe but really good for you actually!! doing surgery on yourself is all a part of healthy curiosity and totally safe to remove your own heart for fun and profit!
i don't think any of the others would be on tiktok. heavy has a facebook but its all just minion memes and pictures of his guns and hasn't been updated in like 5 years. Spy and Sniper don't touch social media with a ten foot pole. Spy for spy reasons and sniper is a technologically inept hermit who has never had anything fancier than a nokia.

about the lore feedback i know sometimes on xisuma’s streams when he was doing his evil x lore during s8 he would get chat’s opinions. A lot of chat loved his lore and evil x (probably because he was brought up very often in a funny way during streams) and xisuma took that into account. I know he’s not doing lore this season but twitch is also a big place hermits get feedback from since their chats are readable (unlike a lot of bigger streamers)
Oh that's a good point! I didn't think of it. Unfortunately I don't watch many livestreams lately. Normally twitch chat is a bit yikes but I think hermit twitch chats are probably a lot better and readable like you said.
I'm glad he got some positive feedback there because Xisuma is by far the hermit I've seen the most of people saying they literally stopped watching him because he did lore. Not necessarily even that they disliked the storyline, just didn't want to see any story at all. I understand he didn't really enjoy it and doesn't want to do lore in S9, but I really respect that he threw himself into something new so deeply.

So, after putting it off for over a year I kinda want to start watching hermitcraft... any recommendations for pov or anything bc there's kind of a lot of videos lmao
This ask is old enough that an entire season of hermitcraft has come and gone, sorry about that anon! You've probably already heard that you can jump into Hermitcraft at any time, since they (usually) don't really do "lore" or storylines in the sense the DSMP or Empires did them, so basically you can start wherever your heart desires and then decide if you want to binge older episodes. Also I'm not a hermit main, so my response is heavily coloured through that. As much as I enjoy the shenanigans, I like to watch them mostly for the building and/or background noise, so keep that in mind. The hermits i enjoy most are:
Etho: Who doesn't love Ethoslab. His videos are rare and he has no upload schedule, so if you want regular content, he's not the pov for you. But his building style is very unique and he likes to try out and learn new things, which is always great fun. I understand very little about the redstone he does but he still manages to explain what he does in a way that makes sense even to me. His pov is usually very chill and more adjacent to whatever chaos is currently going on than right in the thick of it, but that's what i enjoy about him.
Iskall: I actually discovered Iskall through Vault Hunters instead of Hermitcraft and I can wholeheartedly recommend his pov of that one too. Iskall only uploaded a few videos from Season 8 but his roommate dynamic with Etho as well as his explorations into terraforming had me hooked. Also his voice and editing are a vibe.
False: Like with Iskall, I found False through Vault Hunters and of course MCC more than Hermitcraft, but I fell in love with her building style. What she did with the caves (building her own lush cave) was incredible to witness through videos. I'm also currently binging her older seasons (specifically S6) and I'm very much enjoying my time. She also has a regular upload schedule!
Impulse: Impulse is vaguely insane, I don't have any other words for it. The kind of projects this man can pull off are insane and you'll never have to worry about no new episodes with him. If you're here for shenanigans, Team ZIT (Zedaph, Impulse, Tango) never fails to deliver as well.
Xisuma: Similar to Impulse, Xisuma just...builds. It's incredibly impressive to watch and his two conflicting build styles in the last season with Evil X were incredibly impressive.
And for the two newcomers, PearlescentMoon and GeminiTay, I've mostly popped into their livestreams instead of watching their Hermitcraft videos but both of their streams have great, chill vibes and they're great to hang out in.

I really am going feral
Lots of people say they're going feral, but I actually am
I moved out to the middle of nowhere and just do my own shit all day and now every passing day I hate more about society
I hate modern society. I hate traditional society. I hate society. Everything just sounds awful to me. I just want to buy shit in bulk and get craft materials and learn to make shit and not interact with any of it
No new music or movies appeal to me, at least nothing anyone big puts out. The occasional weird little artist makes cool stuff like that tardigrade song (though that's old now too), but it all just feels so focus group tested now
I don't hate other people, but I don't understand how collectively more than like 3 people like any of this shit. I don't get consumerism and shit, I don't get wanting the new thing when you could try to fix the old thing
This probably sounds super hipster, but that's not how it's meant. None of these people are bad for this stuff, but I just don't get why you would watch a live stream and buy shit like it's the shopping network instead of waiting two months to see if you really want it
I'm out of touch, I'm dropping out, I'm losing my domestication which I believe is the definition of going feral
My values, and idea of fun, and even reality you could argue just seem different. Quarantine didn't effect me, my life remained the same. I'm just kind of a almost hermit who talks with people on the internet and apparently has just the wrong taste in everything ever because it's rare for shit I like to be what gets popular
Wouldn't change it though. Better my weird fucked up life and being suicidal everyday than being anyone else. Only people I'd consider switching with are my woodworking professor or like... Keanu Reeves... maybe my old teacher Jeff, though I don't know if I could live his life though I get it now
I'd... toss this under a read more, but I'm on mobile
But seriously, I think I'm literally going feral. Feral usually implies anger with how it's used, but that's not it. I just... nothing I hear sparks any damn joy
Suburban shit buying trash during celebrity livestreams while ordering delivery before getting ready to go into the office tomorrow... it feels like that's somebody's dream, but it ain't mine
I'll take my 100 year old house that I'm trying to learn to take care of and having enough time in the day to slowly try and learn new shit like leather working

Am I a bad person for getting really annoyed with Grian and his shenanigans? Like, the last 2 pranks he's pulled on Scar just made me so angry; trapping him in a death loop? Undoing parts of Scar's hours of work with the mycelium? It's just Bothering me
Warning, discussion of hermitcraft plots as planned stories
No it doesn't make you a bad person! I definitely felt that way at times regarding some of the pranks some people pulled but I think it helps to remember that all the hermits talk to each other behind the scenes and talk about elements of the stories they're playing out.
They're all adults IRL and if scar really felt like it was getting too much or out of hand or genuinely annoying him he could talk to Grian. All of the creators with bigger channels are aware (sometime learning the hard way) that they have a lot of influence over fan opinions and, from what I can tell, communicate with the other behind the scenes. Whilst interactions aren't scripted I'd imagine a lot of the plot beats (like the mycelium) are
I found it hard to watch Mumbo drag Iskall into hermit challenges even though I knew Iskall was just playing the part and IRL they'd discussed it before hand. Even though they may have discussed it before hand (mumbo said they hand on livestream) it still felt very real and it put me off watching mumbo for bit.
There's nothing wrong with finding a hermits actions annoying, as long as you know that's behind the scenes all the hermits are friends! Conflicts are more than likely to be planned so both parties know what they're getting into regarding fan reactions. There's nothing wrong with getting upset on 'in universe' scar's behalf as long as you try to remember that behind the scenes they will have probably discussed it to an extent and both parties agreed. Try not to let you annoyance at grian in-universe to boil over into hating Charles, because then that can be much harder to stop becoming something that fuels more negative actions.
You're also free to stop watching grian if it's getting too much, this is me freeing you from any obligations you feel to keep watching things that make you feel bad! You're free!!
Edit: I feel I should mention in the actual post that emotions do not and cannot make you a bad person, how you react, act upon and deal with emotions are the things that have moral weight (imo). The presence of emotions is neutral, there are no good or bad emotions, you are not a bad person for feeling things. Don't be so harsh on yourself if you can help it anon <3

hello memryse! 1, 2, 25 for ask game :)
1. When did you first get into MCYT ?
2013! i was most active in the fandom 2015-2016ish - so i guess i was one of the original mcytblr blogs? there were quite a lot of us honestly but nothing compared to how it is now ofc. i don't think even hermitblr was a thing back then, but there wasn't really a centralised mcyt community; it was more just fans of very specific series/ccs, so i doubt there would have been any overlap even if it did exist bc the mianite crew had nothing to do with any of the hermits. i then disappeared for a few years as mcyt fell out of popularity until dsmp sucked me back in earlier this year :D so it's kind of a weird position to be in because on the one hand I Was Here First, on the other i have a massive knowledge gap especially 2019-2020 lol
back then i was only really into the mianite side of mcyt fandom, though i did watch other stuff as well, and trust me when i say mianite was the predecessor to dsmp. a lore-heavy roleplay smp streamed on twitch which had such a big fanbase that it frequently trended #1 on twitter. i think it was actually the first time that youtubers started a livestreamed SMP on twitch? definitely one of the first, at least. if any of you have never heard of mianite, please check it out. it's fantastic! i cannot recommend it highly enough if you enjoy the dream smp.
2. Who’s the first MCYT you watched ?
captainsparklez! and i remain a fan to this day, his content is still great. i started watching him during his hexxit series, which holds a special place in my heart to this day (but my favourite of his solo survival series will always be ultra modded survival, that was soooo much fun)
25. What’s your best memory in MCYT ?
well i have a lot of nice ones from recent times, but i wanted to do this as an excuse to talk about old mcyt stuff so let me do that. which would have to be the mianite s2 finale - it's a lovely memory thinking back to that. it was really bittersweet, i cried so much, but it was lovely. mianite my dearest and utmost beloved.
if i'm allowed to use like irl stuff then i'd also say the time i met waglington at a convention :D he was super happy to meet me and my friend because he hadn't expected anyone to recognise him and instead got to meet two young teenagers who were superfans of the one series he was part of LOL he was absolutely lovely. i'd wanted to give him a collection of letters from mianiteblr but unfortunately never got around to sorting it out prior to the convention
