My thoughts on my One Piece journey and How it’s affected me 🩷

This is going to be long ass post lol

I think this is the platform that I never knew that I will ever comeback to but you know because of one piece and deprived of Sanji, Nami & Law content, ✨ here I am 😁✨ *shamelessly comeback after abandoned tumblr for good 11 years lmao*.

Anyway, I just want to let out my thoughts on my one piece journey and how it affected me. So bear with me. This is only place I can talk about One Piece because other platforms I had is related to kpop * Yes I’m a kpop fan. HEAVY ON NCT. Neo Got My Back.*

I know about one piece way back when I’m teenager. It’s just I don’t start to watch it/ read it somehow?? Idk why 🤷‍♀️ I’m also confused to as why because I did grew up watch anime like FMAB, Naruto, Bleach, Black Butler, K-On, Fairy Tail on tv. HECK I EVEN WATCH THE LONG ASS DETECTIVE CONAN TOO 😭

I think it’s because back in the day ( 2010 - 2017 ), I had lack of access to internet and not exposed to the series at all. Besides the local TV station here, only aired Naruto ,Bleach and those anime I mentioned . *I’m just 24 years old btw*

So around September 2023, I came across to One Piece content on TikTok and funny enough it’s Brook edit! I was so intrigued with this character and little did I know I watch a bunch of One Piece clip here and there on TikTok. To be fair, I am basically spoiled myself that time 😬 but I’m the type dgaf if I got spoiled because I won’t remember at all later on. 🤷‍♀️

So I decide to start watch it. First few episodes, my reaction was like “ Okay Luffy is an interesting guy🧐his body stretches and always smiled! He got damn hands tho ngl”. Zoro, my reaction was like “ahaaa SO THIS IS ZORO THAT EVERYONE KEEP TALKING ABOUT. Quite a Stud.”

Nami, interesting female character that I can relate because I like money 🤑 and her backstory is so sad. Ussop is also another character I gradually love over the time!

Then COMES MY HUSBANDO, SANJI. Man I have a thing for a man who can cook and looks good in suits. Sanji really makes me having my first anime crush ever! I DONT HAVE A CRUSH ON ANYONE IN NARUTO & Detective Conan but One Piece made me have one 🤧 *The upgrade from loving a guy that exist but doesn’t know you exist ( haechan,jaehyun & jaemin bb i luv you guys but Sanji 😮‍💨) to loving a guy who are not exist on this plane of earth 👀*

Little did I know I start to binge watch it. First day of watching, 30 episodes in 6 hours. 10 days later I already watch 325 episodes . but the show is so good! The story telling that oda created really hit home to me and the foreshadowing & lore he created makes me hooked unlike other story that I have read & watched.

Here’s the thing, to me every anime that I watch, I never like finish it . Sometimes I would just watch last ep and called it the day. This is not only apply on anime, it’s apply to western shows, my own local shows & k-dramas. So One Piece truly like solidified their place on my heart. I finally can understand why one piece are so loved for decades!

Also during those times, I hit rock bottom too. I quit my job because I was falsely accused for stealing shit at my work place and being discriminated by my ex-boss due to being the youngest one for my entire work.( everyone else was in their 40’s ). That time I was desperate as I need some money to achieve my bucket-list and want to lessen the burden of my family. Lord heavens knows what I’m going through, got death threats by that mf. Twisted the truth that causing my whole family cut ties with her severely. From there, I felt so stress and worried.

So One Piece is my way of escapism and it’s been a beautiful and exciting journey. Compared to last time, I took a 7 months breaks from works due to burn out & anxiety, this time it doesnt took long for me to overcome those situations and my “year-end blues” that I called is not as bad as before. I also has been actively try to get a job asap so I can buy an Ipad as I want to start learning digital drawing again after watching one piece.

One piece teach me it’s never late to start a new journey towards your dream! I used to dream to be a graphic designer or animators but my family don’t want me to be that. They want me to have that conservative jobs like working in government, an accountant etc. so essentially I gave up those dreams so I can make them proud of me. It’s been bothering me for so long as I felt like I should have go for what I want not what people want. At the end, I abandoned my accountancy knowledge and worked as an admin & a baker which I found a lot more less stressful that being an accountant. I guess what people describe after knows me personally being a confident, free-spirited & rebellious is just the way I am. AND oddly enough One Piece is just perfect manga & anime for me!

At this point, I already caught up with anime. I’m a weekly basis anime watchers now. I also has caught up with manga too. It’s been a huge revealing & fresh experience of One Piece for me. I felt like I being myself again! It’s weird but it’s the truth! I never felt so at ease and being seen. I just want to do what I want. It’s just fitting fate for me to be a One Piece fan!

if its applied to me? pastel. hi! i remembered that you got into lse?(i think or may have been someone else on my dash) do you have any tips on applying with the personal statements and extracurriculars nd stuff? thats only if you want to reply to this though !

ah yes I did! not to brag but ngl my personal statement was....... rlly good lol. but fjdjdj it’s hard to give tips?? bc there’s no such thing as a universally ‘good’ ps (literally contradicting myself but whatever). (also I’m assuming ur applying to uk unis so like if ur not pls disregard my advice) I mean like firstly b rlly sure abt what ur applying for it’s a bit late now but taster courses and stuff. if u don’t love ur subject as least b able to fake it.

2. do a lot of reading over the summer. dont necessarily put it all in but it’s good to be widely knowledgable. oxbridge have reading lists for their subjects so start off there and branch out into topics that ur interested in from a starting book (essentially get more and more niche). it doesn’t even matter if ur not applying oxbridge but their reading lists tend to be rlly academic so that looks good on a ps. if there’s one uni u Really like look at their course outline for first year and modules u find interesting and look for reading on that. but make sure if ur gonna put it in ur ps that module is applicable to all ur unis. try go to lectures as well or find recordings and then say that u went to the lecture. for ppl who learn better listening this is good so listen to it like a podcast but it’s intellectual enough to namedrop in ur ps.

3. if ur applying for Russel group then don’t write a lot abt extracurriculars. this is rlly different from America so b careful. Russel group don’t give a fuck abt ur extracurricular which can b annoying as fuck when if ur like me u did a shitload of ec stuff and u can’t even put it in ur ps. limit any extracurricular stuff to 1/5-1/4 of ur total ps and this is the place to cut if u go over the word count. only put stuff that’s applicable e.g. it’s a leadership role or something that’s to do w ur subject (e.g. u run history society or ur head girl, etc). or if it’s genuinely rlly impressive like ur a competitive athlete. u can always ask ur teachers to put this kinda stuff in ur letter of recommendation they should b very open to this kinda thing bc they want u to get in as well. tell them abt all the ec stuff ur doing! tell them what u want to b put in there! bc it won’t fit into ur ps if u do a lot of stuff. but on that note if u can do stuff linked to ur subject eg running a club/society or doing volunteering linked to ur subject then start doing that asap.

4. idk how applicable this is for stem stuff but focus abt 1/2 ur ps mainly on books/lectures. ur trying to make urself sound as smart as possible w out being pretentious so don’t just name drop. pick ur 2/3 most interesting books ur read and talk abt them like genuinely critique them. act like ur just an knowledgeable abt that topic as a professor. don’t just disagree bc then why r u reading the book but if u have a valid reason then say it.

for my ps my structure was: general intro into why I like the subject, 1 lecture, 1 book, current a levels (focusing if possible on one that’s most applicable to ur uni subject but talk abt all of them), extracurriculars, ending statement. which is a generally good structure that most of my friends stuck to as well. but put ur most important info in the first paragraphs and then in the last sentence. ppl generally will only read ur ps for 5-20 mins so it has to be flawless grammatically + spelling. get everyone in ur family to read it, ur friends, ur teachers. and be careful abt paraphrasing or copying bc if u get caught for copying even if it’s accidental ur not getting into uni and that shit is a red flag. uuuh this is getting rlly long but like I’d say have fun but I literally hated writing my ps. this shit is gonna b ur life for the next couple of months like by October I felt actually sick when I read my own ps but that’s what u gotta do ig.

oh final tip don’t leave stuff to the last minute. it can b rlly tempting but read over the summer even if ur doing stem just read sm books like I didn’t do that and I was so stressed in autumn term esp if ur doing humanities and ur doing coursework and uni apps and a levels rlly start hotting up in yr 13. read read read and start writing it in the summer. even if ur not applying medicine or oxbridge if u submit sooner then u can focus on a levels and stop stressing abt it. don’t leave it to jan 15 bc a lot of unis will have given the majority of their offers by then don’t limit urself by leaving stuff to the last minute (apparently one yr Durham only gave 1 offer to ppl who applied on jan 15th). a lot of unis will give u an offer almost immediately after submitting if u do it early or otherwise wait until literally April (eg my friend got her Edinburgh offer in Sept and I got mine in april). tbh I was so stressed abt my ps when I should’ve been focusing on my a levels. don’t let it distract u from the fact that u need to get the grades to get in even w an offer. also good luck!
