Rewatching spn with a friend is just re-remembering how much I DESPISE J*hn Winchester. That man has no right to Heaven, especially no right to Dean’s heaven. He deserved to be held accountable and to suffer. Cas should’ve been allowed to get just one punch in.

 okay some quick thoughts about john winchester and his relationship with dean... john was extremely strict with both sam and dean, but dean ended up taking the brute of john’s wrath (mostly as an attempt to protect his brother). john’s outdated values and drill sergeant attitude are the cause for dean’s ideals of toxic masculinity and internalized biphobia (which i might expand on in another post idk), and the reason that dean never got a chance to experience the childhood/innocence that he rightfully deserved.

john was emotionally AND physically abusive to dean over the years. dean often gets mocked for being his father’s “perfect little soldier,” but this behaviour is a defense mechanism after years of being beaten for not following instructions; as a child, dean often had bruising on his legs and arms, and would wear jeans and flannel as a way of hiding the bruises from sam and the adults around him. john is extremely narcissistic and extremely overcritical, and would often subconsciously blame dean for the many issues in their life, which led to dean not only second guess himself constantly, but also led to dean having an extreme level of perfectionism.

when dean is a teenager, john began to leave him and sam in random places for prolonged periods of time; he tells dean that it’s because of the importance of the hunt, but after dean meets adam, he recognizes this neglect/distance as john’s own form of dealing with personal grief/guilt from raising his sons in the life of hunting. sam and dean are used to john not being around, are used to having nobody to rely on but each other. john’s prolonged absences mixed with sam leaving for stanford are the main catalysts for dean’s abandonment issues, which heavily influence the way that dean idolizes/prioritizes his family above all else.

dean uses substances as a way to cope with the childhood trauma, ranging anywhere from severe marijuana reliance to alcoholism, and he has an extremely high pain tolerance due to his father’s repeated abuse.
