Can I Make My Business Address a PO Box?
When you’re a home-based business or a new startup without an office, it may seem tempting to save money and use your personal address or a PO box as your company address. However, doing so may not protect your privacy or give your business the professional image it needs to thrive. In addition, some courier services like UPS or FedEx won’t deliver to PO boxes and certain government applications and paperwork will require a physical street address instead of a PO box.
Tumblr media
What is a PO Box?
A PO box is a numbered, lockable mailbox that you rent from your local post office. It is an alternative to a residential or commercial address and it can be used for mail that needs to remain private or confidential. Mail addressed to a PO box is received and held at the post office until you pick it up.
How to Write an Address Using a PO Box
When writing an address for your PO box, start with the recipient’s first and last name. Then include the PO box number, which begins with “PO Box,” followed by a 2-5 digit number. Next, include the city, state and zip code, if applicable. Finally, include the return address in the upper lefthand corner of the envelope.
While a PO box is great for receiving postal mail and keeping your personal and business contacts separate, it’s not a good option for building business credit or registering a business in multiple states. Having a real physical street address will make your business look more legitimate to potential customers and lenders.

After finding it difficult to purchase great crossdresser clothing I decided to create Janet’s closet. My goal for this Michigan crossdresser boutique was to create a transgender resource catering to the crossdressing community. After starting the store in my garage, I now run the largest online resource for crossdresser clothing and a recently remodeled store for Michigan crossdressers where I also offer my expert male to female transformation and makeup services.
The Michigan Crossdresser that started it all – Janet
For those of you who will take the time and interest to read about this Michigan crossdresser, thanks so much.
I am very proud to be one of the many crossdressers in Michigan and I truly enjoy giving back to the community with my Michigan crossdresser’s store and online web site. As with most other transgender individuals, the path to my true identity has an interesting past.
As a teenager my interests were chasing women, drag racing, and playing music. And I had a great busy fun filled childhood playing in a rock and roll band. I worked as a technician at Capitol music in downtown Detroit, Michigan. I got to know almost every famous Motown person. I recorded, jammed and repaired most of their equipment. It was great fun, but there was little money in it for me. During this time I also was building racing engines which proved to be more lucrative.
I got married and had a baby girl and with money needs I got out of the entertainment business to continue on with building racing engines. I became some what of a notoriety . I even took over the position of Track Manager at the Detroit Drag way for a while. Afterwards I became an A.R.C.A. official by supplying technical services and parts to the racers at race tracks in Michigan and Ohio. But I have always missed the excitement of being on stage as a performer.
On a fluke I went to a Drag Show. There I found my calling. I began performing as a female impersonator. Doing this allowed me to use my talents of singing and dance. In just a few years I have created an Identity for myself. I still own and operate a large engine rebuilding company but I love to perform. I just got a 33’ motor home in which I plan to travel and do my shows.

I am always willing to help any individual with their shopping and transformation needs. Feel free to call me during the listed hours or send me a note online and I will reply quickly. Also, I am hoping to build a page with photos from my many happy customers… so if you want me to add your photo to my crossdresser photo page, please e-mail me.
Also, if you have any suggestions or concerns about my website, please let me know… I am always trying to make it the best place for you to shop online.
Things are going very well, and life is great. Thanks for your interest.
All my love, – Janet

So, I’m not really sure what to do.
As some of y’all know if you’ve been following for a bit, my local post office has a bad habit of losing packages. I used to be able to use the after-hours dropbox, dropping off packages as soon as I was done printing their shipping. The problem was, one or two would go missing - having never been scanned into the postal system, there was no proof I ever handed it over to the post office. This resulted in a lot of replacing items, paying for shipping twice, refunds, and sometimes, if a buyer was really upset - all of the above. Since there’s no proof the post office ever had it, I’m liable if it goes missing at this stage. (In case you’re wondering, yes, this is what happened to many of the New Year’s giveaway tiaras 12 months ago.) Suffice to say, I’ve lost a lot of money because of this post office. And y’all know I’m barely scraping by as it is, my shop and my patreon being my only income - so this is unacceptable. So I started having to wait until someone can take me to the post office during business hours and physically have the clerk scan them in right in front of me - usually with an indignant attitude for wasting their time (”Ugh, why can’t she just use the dropbox???”). So yesterday, I brought in a package and as usual, asked for the clerk to scan it real quick. It only takes 5 seconds to scan it and tap “accept”, this process is not complicated nor time-consuming. She cheerfully said, “Oh, that’s all you need to do, thank you!”, waving the scanner in her hand and essentially dismissing me. Then she put down my package as I was whisked out the front door.  The tracking still says it hasn’t been given to the post office yet. She didn’t scan it.  So I was able to get a ride there again today, and asked about it. They asked for the tracking number, I supplied it, and they said, “Yep, it sure hasn’t been scanned. Hopefully later today, though~” and dismissed me again. I begged. I said multiple packages this year went missing at this post office and every time they do I am responsible for refunding or replacing the item - to please, please go find it and scan it. “Don’t worry babydoll, it’s not lost - we’ll scan it!” and that was that. End of discussion. So I can’t trust the post office to pick up packages at my house because they lose them, I can’t drop them off after hours because they lose them, and even coming in physically during the day and begging for them to scan it is no guarantee.  I am often told, “That’s what you get for using the post office, you should be using FedEx or UPS!”, but they don’t realize how large the price increase for shipping would be.  I charge you guys a flat $3.00 for most items - A padded envelope costs about $2.00 and the postage is usually about $2.80-$3.00 for it. Sometimes I have to upgrade it to priority shipping for $6.00-$8.00 because you need it sooner. I’m already losing money on shipping. UPS or Fedex would cost $8.00-$10.00 or more for each item. Y’all ain’t gonna pay that. I ain’t gonna pay that. As it is, I’ve gotten complaints about my shipping costs. What do I do?

Virtual Mailboxes: How to Receive Mail while Traveling
Digital Nomads
How do long-term travelers and digital nomads receive mail or packages while traveling? I use a virtual mailbox service that allows me to scan and forward my mail internationally.
I’ve been working as a digital nomad for the past 9 years, basing myself in multiple countries or simply living out of my backpack while traveling.
Currently, I’m living as an expat in Italy.
Yet I have a virtual mailbox with a physical address in San Antonio, Texas.
Using this service, any incoming mail or packages is photographed, which I can then view through an online dashboard.
From there, I can decide to scan the contents (letters), forward the mail/packages somewhere else, or have it shredded/recycled. I can even deposit checks.
My virtual mailbox service is incredibly helpful for running my online business getting paid to travel around the world!
I use it to receive payments from clients, for business & personal bills, bank & credit card statements, legal documents, packages, and more.
Guide To Virtual Mail Forwarding In 2019
My Earth Class Mail Online Dashboard
1. Earth Class Mail (Recommended)
Cost: $69-$179 USD per month
Earth Class Mail is the virtual mailbox service that I personally use, and have been using for the last 5 years. Their suite of features is the most advanced, especially if you’re running an online business.
They have the largest number of US-based addresses for different states of all the services mentioned here. Their online software, features, speed, and sorting facilities are top-notch, but you’ll also pay a premium for it.
While expensive, I can’t imagine running my travel blog without them. It’s one business expense that’s totally worth it. I use them to receive client checks, important packages, business & personal banking correspondence, tax documents, everything!
The service integrates with QuickBooks, Xero, Bill.com, Dropbox, Google Drive, and more.
They also offer a fully-automated CheckStream Deposit Service if your business receives a lot of physical checks.
Earth Class Mail Details →
2. Traveling Mailbox
Cost: $15-$159 USD per month
Traveling Mailbox is another decent forwarding service with 5 plans to choose from depending on your needs. Like Earth Class Mail, all accounts include basic envelope scans, junk mail filtering, unlimited cloud storage and free mail shredding.
They have over 30 addresses around the US. Premium features like check deposits cost extra. There are additional fees if you go over your monthly limits. The service integrates with Evernote, Bill.com and Dropbox.
3. US Global Mail
Cost: $10-$20 USD per month
US Global Mail has been around since 1998, and they offer individual and family plans for short-term (monthly) or long-term (1-2 year) periods.
They offer free letter storage for 180 days, and free package storage for 30 days. Mail forwarding rates are quite affordable. One major downside is that they only offer one address location in Houston, Texas. This isn’t ideal if you need your address to match your state of residence.
4.8 million Americans who now call themselves digital nomads? Technology has made the digital office a reality for many, and now you don’t have to be tied down by physical mail either.
RVers & Vanlifers
Living out of a vehicle like an RV or campervan poses a challenge to receiving your mail & packages, especially if you’re on the road. Forward your mail to the next RV campground you plan to stop at, no matter what state you’re driving through.
Expats
Are you living overseas in a foreign country with a travel-friendly job, but want to keep a physical mailing address in the US for billing, voting, and tax purposes? Sign up for a virtual mailing address in your former home state.
USPS Form 1583 and have it notarized.
Unless you’re signing up for Earth Class Mail, who offers free complimentary notarized online activation, you’ll need to get the form notarized in person.
Or if you’re already outside the United States — through an online notary service like NotaryCam (which only costs $25).
Reduce the amount of physical mail you generate by signing up for paperless billing and online statements. Opt out of credit card & insurance offers using https://www.optoutprescreen.com/
Many financial institutions require a physical mailing address and don’t allow PO boxes. Make sure to choose a plan accordingly.
When picking a virtual mailbox service, pay attention to the plan limits and figure out how much mail you think you’ll receive.
You might be able to reduce your state taxes by setting up residency in a state with no income tax. Pick a virtual address in that same state.

Post 9: Fedex: Brand Detail
Because Fedex is a service and not a product I believed that it only fell under the “Pricing Strategies”. Through more research I found that I was wrong, Fedex actually had a “marketing mix”. Their “product” follows under the range of services across the globe, on top of that they sell packaging, envelopes, and various office supplies. The place would be the “distribution strategy”. Fedex has multiple locations across the globe to be easily accessible to their market. Last would be the promotion, I myself have not seen an ad in a very long time but they had ads like the John Moschitta ad.
The fast shipping provided by Fedex has changed the way customers ship packages. Customer s have become accustomed to their packages being shipped in under 2 days. All of this leads customers to keep coming back to Fedex.

3 Core Components in Outbound Marketing Target, Vehicle, Message
There are multiple core components in Outbound Marketing. From time to time people get excited about a new tool that's going to be the game changer in their business. It can be a piece of software that's going to generate an abundance of leads, a magic script that's going to get your prospects to say YES or a specific approach that will do all the above. Although these are marketed as stand-alone systems, each one of these represents a core component of outbound lead generation. By understanding what these components are, you can optimize each part and incorporate all of them into your campaign to compound your results. At that point it becomes only a matter of documenting each step to standardize a process for your organization and make sure that it is followed by all, every time. Today I will like to focus on 3 core components of outbound marketing:
This is where you're creating your ideal client profile, your buyer personas, and building your highly-targeted list. Your target is the most important component to your campaign. If you were selling steaks to a list of Vegans, you probably wouldn't do so well. Your goal is target the prospects that would be a perfect fit for your product or service, making the decision to respond an obvious one. Find the people or companies you can add the most value to and have the greatest impact on. If you can't solve their problem or you can't help them, they won't respond to your messaging and they won't become your next client. Although this is bad, I'll tell you what would be even worse. Targeting someone whose problem you couldn't effectively solve, someone you won't be able to deliver for, and they do become your client. That would be a nightmare.
Tumblr media
Best Practice: Instead of the waterboard approach of pouring all your efforts onto just one individual in the organization, I recommend the top-down waterfall approach of reaching out to multiple decision makers in the organization. If you don't get the response you were hoping for from one individual, you still have other irons on the fi re at that company. This will dramatically increase your responses. The reason for the top-down approach of reaching out to higher level executives is also recommended because you will often get bunted down to the person that is responsible for handling that task. When you reach out to that individual and explain that their boss's boss suggested you meet with them, that becomes a relatively easy meeting to get. On the other hand, attempting to do this in re-verse and telling a higher-level executive that they should meet with you because a lower level employee suggested so, will not nearly have the same effect.
Vehicle We have many different delivery vehicles to choose from and deciding which to use often depends on the size and complexity of your sale. If you are trying to generate leads to reach small business owners, it can be as simple as only using cold email or LinkedIn for prospecting. If you're trying to get meetings with C-Suite executives of large corporations, you may have to use a combination of those, plus direct mail, telephone, digital marketing, and even singing telegram. I'm not suggesting the last one but the more you touch your prospect using different vehicles, the better your chances of achieving awareness. This is the first stage of the AIDA Model: Awareness, Interest, Desire, Action.
Even with all the excitement surrounding cold email, the reality is it's just another vehicle. At one point, direct mail was the go-to vehicle until that became oversaturated and the term 'junk mail' was born. Cold calling was all the rage until people got tired of 'telemarketing calls'. Just as quickly, cold email is being abused and, just like fifteen years ago, more and more people are talking about getting spam. At George Athan MindStorm, not only do we incorporate cold email into all our clients' campaigns, but we also use LinkedIn in a specific way to prospect, because executives that are on LinkedIn hardly get any other messages in their InMail box. As an added bonus, LinkedIn also sends an email copy of the message to the user with almost 100% deliverability to their inbox.
Best Practice: Contact your prospect using multiple vehicles. Consider both the value of the meeting and the potential profit from the sale and adjust your spend accordingly. For big ticket sales and high value meetings, consider adding 3-Dimensional mailings to your campaign. These are physical items being delivered, which require uncommon mailing packaging. Sending someone a FedEx package will have a completely different effect, thus response rate, than sending a regular envelope, even when the exact same letter is inside. Start with easier and cheaper vehicles and then escalate to more expensive, attention-grabbing methods over time and touches. This will enable you to capture the low hanging fruit and secure many meetings at a lower cost per lead. This is an important strategy considering we are building a system that we will scale to manage volume.
Message
When we're talking about the message, we're talking about the language used to communicate with a prospect. This can be everything from the copy writing of your landing pages or direct mail letters, to the telephone scripts your salespeople use. The message is what connects the benefit of your product to the target audience you're reaching out to. This is another vital component to your lead generation process because regardless of the vehicle you're using to connect with a prospect, without the right message you'll never move them through the next phases of the AIDA Model - Creating Interest and Desire for your services, eventually getting your prospect to Act.
When we talk about systems, we mean processes that can be repeated to get predictable results. To achieve this, certain things have to be constant so that they produce results that are consistent and therefore can be relied on. One of these constants is the message. How can you predict with certainty the outcome of a campaign if the message changed every time? You couldn't. The more variables that you make constant, the more you can rely on your expectation of the results. Even yet, with all things being the same every time, responses change because people change. What works today will not necessarily work tomorrow. With this much uncertainty and constantly moving targets, it would be impossible to generate predictable results with a different message each time.

Sales Tactics
I haven’t updated this blog in several years, primarily because my free time has been occupied with a tech startup and playing dad to two wonderful boys (now 3 and 1).  I’ve also started writing science fiction, some of which may find itself here eventually.  But in my head now is the impersonality of big corporations and how they conduct themselves.
My wife and I left the Bay Area in 2016, and were fortunate to be able to purchase a home we love in Scottsdale, AZ.  When I moved I was able to keep my software engineering job at NASA and telecommute four days a week (which became five once the pandemic hit).  As many home purchases do, this one came with a mortgage, initially contracted with a company we chose, but as these things go, the mortgage got passed around a bit, finally settling with Caliber Home Loans.  Caliber wants you to refinance with them.  They really, really want you to refinance with them.  For at least a year to access any part of your loan information online required clicking on a pop up page that you weren’t interesting in refinancing.  The phone calls started pretty soon thereafter, during work hours, often multiple times a week.  No, I wasn’t interested in paying closing costs, increasing the interest rate, and restarting the clock on my mortgage.
Finally I got irritated enough that I asked them to stop calling me.  I was told it would take 30 days.  OK, fine.  But it didn’t stop, or even slow down.  Ultimately it took me three tries to get the phone calls to stop.  That’s when the mailed offers increased in their intensity.  Again, often multiple times a week I would open an unlabeled envelope only to find a Caliber refinancing offer that required disposal.  The interest rates were lower now, but still, I wasn’t interested in refinancing.  If I was, I’d be actively seeking out offers, and given my experiences to date, Caliber would not be given consideration.
Some time around the holidays I received an unlabeled letter-sized package from Federal Express.  Curious, I opened it, and it was a Caliber refinance offer.  I know you get better rates on bulk mailings, but still, what kind of marketing cost were they incurring here?  I was done.  I called customer support once again, navigating the Byzantine options required to be able to actually speak to a live human being.  This led to one of the more bizarre conversations of my life, as I was talking to a customer service agent who was actively trying to sell me as he was marking me to stop receiving correspondences and fielding my insults about his company.  “What was in the FedExed offer?” he asked.  “It doesn’t matter,” I answered.  Later I realized the proper response was “Who cares?”  Alas, as an introverted individual I rarely find the correct words extemporaneously.  I was assured that I would stop receiving communications in 30 days.  I did not.
On February 26th I tried again, once again receiving the assurance.  This date I marked in my calendar, which I wish I had been doing all along, but, in my defense, generally when a company whose best interests are served by keeping you happy promises you something it happens.  Of course there’s an assumption in there that might not be true.
The offers kept rolling in as the 30 days clock counted down, and yesterday, April 1st, 34 days later I received two offers the same day.  I looked at the paperwork, which stated their office opened at 8 am CST.  Assuming even though they sent the offers after Daylight Savings began, they really meant whatever Central time was in effect, my sons deciding to wake up at 6 this morning meant I was able to tackle the problem early, but this time I was going to demand a supervisor.  I called the refinance number, and was told I needed to talk to customer support, but he would transfer me.  Sure, go ahead.  He transferred me to a message that said it was a call from a debt collector, and then hung up on me.  I called customer support, and was told I needed to talk to the refinance department, and he would transfer me.  This transfer actually occurred, but the employee I spoke to insisted this was a customer support issue, to which I vehemently objected, and when he claimed to handle the issue I still asked to speak to a supervisor, explaining that it wasn’t that I didn’t trust his ability to do the job, but before today I’d made the equivalent of this phone call five previous times, and only had a 20% success rate.  Eventually I got transfered back to customer support and to an escalation manager who spoke like she knew how “to handle” people and assured me this issue should have been taken care of the first time, and she was messaging management above her to ensure I would immediately be removed from the solicitation list.  When she didn’t get a response, she promised to call me back at 3 Central time, which of course she didn’t.  So we’ll see what happens with all this.
The general question of course is why they do this?  I don’t have training in sales or business, but I have religiously watched several seasons of Shark Tank, so that’s equivalent, right?  One of the most important things in business is customer acquisition cost.  Once you have a customer, if you make that customer happy, it’s easier to sell to him rather than having to go out and acquire a new customer.  Why then would you actively antagonize your customers?  Is this a corporate strategy, incompetence of the line level employees, or just pure laziness?  I wonder about the first.  My wife has a friend who is apparently successful in the sales field, and his strategy seems to be to beat people over the head until they acquiesce to whatever he is pushing.  Maybe that works with some people, but is an overall successful strategy?  If God forbid I ever do need to refinance, they are the last company I would deal with, and I would ask the company I did agree with what would be the likelihood they would be selling my loan.

Do I Need A Visa For Vietnam?
Vietnams Visa Process
The Visa process has been adjusted last year in order to encourage more travelers and tourists to come to Vietnam.
This is great news for a lot of people but still not a perfect solution. With that being said, let’s talk about Vietnam Visa. who needs it? who doesn’t? how to get one?.
Requirements for everyone even if you don’t need a Vietnam Visa!?
A passport! This might seem crazy to some people to even mention this but some might not be used to traveling. So lets cover it, you MUST HAVE a passport if you are visiting Vietnam from another country.
This next point is very important and I have actually seen many people get caught up on this and not even realize it until they get here.
**important** Your passport must have 6 month of validity from the date of Travel. **important**
Our company Back of the Bike Tours have actually seen this issue a few times where one person in a group gets stopped from traveling because of this issue.
Don’t let it happen to you! Check cousin Jimmy and Grandma’s passport to make sure they aren’t expiring 6 months from the date you land in Vietnam.
This isn’t something you can get around as well, If you land in Vietnam with a passport that is expiring, they will not let you in. Your best and most unlikely scenario would be that your embassy would issue you an emergency passport to travel. The most likely thing to happen is that you will be on the next flight home after sitting in the airport for a number of hours.
Will I need a Vietnam Visa?
There are only 24 countries at the moment who are allowed to enter Vietnam without needing a Visa for a certain amount of time.
Exempt from Visa for 15 Day Stay:
Belarus
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Italy
Japan
Norway
Russia
South Korea
Spain Sweden
United Kingdom
Exempt from Visa for 14 Day Stay:
Brunei
Myanmar
Exempt from Visa for 21 Day Stay:
Phillipines
Exempt from Visa for 30 Day Stay:
Thailand
Singapore
Malaysia
Laos
Kyrgyzstan
Indonesia
Cambodia
Exempt from Visa for 90 Day Stay:
Chile
My country doesn’t need a visa to visit Vietnam! How lucky is that?
Hey! That is pretty lucky as most countries do require a visa! Congrats and we hope you enjoy your vacation. Please make sure you don’t plan your trip longer than your visa exemption lasts and you will be golden! If you plan on staying longer than the amount of time you are exempt then please continue to read on and learn more.
My Country isn’t exempt from needing a Visa, Whats next?
That’s okay! Maybe your country will be exempt next year!
Let’s get you a Visa so that you can have fun traveling around this beautiful country.
There are three ways to get your Visa:
Mail your Passport to the Vietnam Embassy inside your country. They stamp a Vietnam Visa into your passport and send your passport back to you.
or
Obtain an Approval Letter so that you can obtain your Visa on Arrival
or
E-Visa that allows you to enter Vietnam through 28 different points of Entrance. This would be the best option for those coming into Vietnam through Land or Sea.
Let’s jump into each way to get your Vietnam Visa, the specifics on how to get it. The advantages and disadvantages of each one.
Obtaining a Vietnam Visa from your Local Embassy in your country
This is old reliable.
Before the days of the internet and expecting everything within just a few minutes of our current culture, we all had to send our Passport to the embassy before taking off to Visit Vietnam.
What do we need for a Visa from the Embassy or consulate?
Each country has its own price and time frame to complete the Visa Process. Since there are so many different countries world wide we believe you should use the following link to track down the embassy in your country and follow their Visa Process which should be rather easy and simple to follow.
Use this link to track down the website for you a consulate/embassy in your home country to follow their Visa Process.
Here is an example of the Visa Process from The Vietnamese Embassy in the United States,
APPLY FOR VISA IN PERSON OR BY MAIL
To apply in person or by mail, the applicant is required to submit the following documents:
01 application form to be completed online at http://visa.mofa.gov.vn ; please select VIETNAM EMBASSY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA as Place of visa submission and collection. After completing the online application form, please PRINT OUT and sign your application. In case you are unable to fill out the online application form, you can download the form (click here) and fill it out by hand or use paper application forms available at the Embassy upon your submission.
Passport (the original for a sticker-visa application OR a copy of the ID page for a loose-leaf visa application) with at least 06 months of validity prior to the proposed date of entry into Viet Nam to meet airlines’ and immigration requirements). For Vietnamese holding a US Permanent Resident Card (also referred to as “Green Card”), you can apply for a Visa Exemption Certificate (click here), also known as “Viet Nam 5-year visa”.
Photo: one (1) 2×2 inch identical photo if the original passport is submitted for a sticker visa OR two (2) 2×2 inch identical photos if a copy of the passport is submitted for a loose-leaf visa.
Visa fees: paid in cash or Visa Card/Master Card for in-person application at the Embassy, or in the form of money order/ cashier’s check/company check payable to “EMBASSY OF VIET NAM”.
Other supporting documents (if any): copy of visa approval document or provision of visa approval reference number issued by the relevant authority of Viet Nam; invitation letter from sponsor/host etc.
If you wish to receive your passport and/or visa sent back to your mailing address by mail: 01 prepaid self-addressed return envelope. To ensure safe delivery of your application package and visa, it is recommended that you use certified mail service offered by USPS, UPS and FedEx with tracking number to check on delivery status. The Embassy shall not be responsible for any loss of documents due to insecure and uncertified mailing service. In case you do not bring along a prepaid return envelope upon submission of visa application at the Embassy, you may use FedEx envelopes available at the Embassy and are required to pay for the additional mailing service.
The process above seems rather straightforward.
I have personally always gotten my Visa on Arrival, but I can see how getting your visa before leaving would be easy just to have it completed and done before leaving. One less thing to worry about when traveling with a large group or small children
What is the Pro’s and Con’s of getting your Visa from the Consulate/Embassy?
  Pro’s:
  Scam Free
If you are worried about submitting for your Vietnam Visa on arrival through a scam site, then bypass those worries and just apply directly with the embassy.
Worry Free
When planning travel and on the actual date of flying, sometimes thinks can feel rushed and overwhelmed. If you get your visa through the consulate/embassy its done and there will be no surprises when you land in Vietnam. This peace of mind is comforting and a huge reason to get your visa through the consulate.
Debit/Credit Card Payment
Many of the consulates/embassies provide an online payment source for you to pay for your Visa before sending your Passport to them for the Visa. Some people enjoy this rather then having to worry about cash payments on arrival in Vietnam.
No Waiting
If you have your Visa already, you will queue up in the immigration line and not have to wait for the “Visa on Arrival” line that can sometimes add over an hour to the immigration process depending on how long the wait is when you arrive. After a long flight, I do find this additional line irritating.
Length of Time
Getting a Visa from your embassy/consulate provides the option for you to apply for single or multiple entry Vietnam Visa and 1 month or 3 months Vietnam Visa.
  Con’s:
  Time
If you don’t have the luck of living right next to an embassy or consulate, you will have to send your Passport in via the post. This might take up to 6 weeks to get your passport back. If you are great at planning and do this part early, then time may not be a factor that you’ll need to worry about.
Price
Depending on your individual consulate, this might turn out being the most expensive way to get your visa. But the peace of mind might be worth it.
Paying in Check or Money Order
This feels like a bit of a con because I don’t write many checks or get money orders in the days of debit/credit cards. This may not be a big deal for those who often deal with these forms of payments.
Verdict: If I was traveling with just myself or as a couple. I might go for the option of getting my visa on arrival or Evisa listed below. If I was traveling with children or any sort of large group whether its all friends or family, I would prefer to gather all the passports and send them in for a Visa before the trip just for the knowledge that I won’t have any surprises when I land. This is my personal opinion though, and please use all the information provided to find out what works best for you.
What is Visa On Arrival and a Approval Letter?
Okay, here is the deal with the Visa on Arrival.
Step 1: You Fill out some information online and make a payment to receive a Approval Letter. This letter allows you to get a Visa when you land before you go through immigration.
Step 2: You land in Vietnam, before you can go through immigration, you have to wait in line to get your Visa. This is where you will give them your approval letter, a form, and the additional photos you brought along. You will have to also pay a Stamping Fee here, which they would like for you to pay in cash. If you don’t have cash they will have someone escort you to an ATM inside the airport( I have had this happen before)
Step 3: Once your passport is stamped, you get your passport back with your visa inside and now you can go through immigration. Enjoy your time in Vietnam ?
What are the Pro’s and Con’s for the Visa On Arrival?
  Vietnam Visa on Arrival Pro’s:
  Time
You can sign up for your approval letter rather quickly, and in just a few days receive the letter allowing you to travel to Vietnam and get your Visa.
Price
The Visa on Arrival might be a little bit cheaper than sending your Passports to the embassy or consulate in your home country. This does depend on each country individually as the price for the visa differs country to country.
Emergency Travel
In Emergency cases you can get your Approval letter in just 4 hours. This does depend on the time and availability of the immigration office and the agency you are using for you letter.
Location
The Visa on Arrival does not require you to go out of your way when preparing for a trip to Vietnam. After receiving your Approval Letter via email, the only thing you need to do is fly to Vientam where you will get your visa right when you get off the plane.
Length of Time
The Vietnam on Arrival provides the option for you to apply for single or multiple entry and 1 or 3 months.
  Vietnam Visa on Arrival Con’s:
  Scams
I have used the Visa on Arrival process every time I have needed to travel when I first came to Vietnam before receiving my Residency card. There was never an issue i had with scams but apparently it does happen, so often that you can find warnings issued on Vietnam Embassy websites as you can see here:
(The following is an excerpt from http://vietnamconsulate.org.au)
Warning from Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia: There has been an increase in the number of Australians applying online for a ‘visa on arrival’ approval letter. There have been reports of visa scams involving online Vietnamese visa applications. There have also been reports of applicants’ personal details being made public by online visa websites. As result, we recommend you apply for a Vietnamese visa directly from the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam.
Warning:
– We have the honour to announce that the following websites are not legitimate:
http://vietnam-embassy.org, http://myvietnamvisa.com, http://vietnamvisacorp.com, http://vietnam-visa.com, http://visavietnam.gov.vn, http://vietnamvisa.gov.vn, http://visatovietnam.gov.vn, http://vietnam-visa.gov.vn
– The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam has recently received many feedbacks from foreign nationals on the visa online service provided by above-mentioned websites.
– We holds no responsibility for any visa application for Viet Nam provided by these services.
Personally, I have had no issue using an online service, but it is important to be made aware that these services are not the Vietnamese Government so they do hold some risk when relying on them for your visa.
Time
I have marked time as a pro when it comes to getting the approval letter, but the time spent waiting for your stamp after a long flight can be excruciating. I have also waited for hours at the airport when friends and family were waiting to receive their Visa stamp before going into already long immigration lines.
Miscommunication/Errors
I believe the biggest con here is that if there were any issues in your Approval letter process, then you might have a difficult time on arrival that will not be a great way to start your vacation. The other issue here is that sometimes people forget, I have been caught at the Visa on Arrival window myself with no cash for the stamping fee. That was painful after a long flight. A different example, my friend forgot her photos to give to the VOA when she arrived so she had to take time to get new photos and pay for that. While not expensive, its just painful after a long flight and doesn’t provide a “I’m ready for vacation” mood.
Not applicable for Land or Sea Arrival
The Vietnam on Arrival ONLY applies to travelers coming into Vietnam through an International Airport in Vietnam. This leaves Land or Sea Arrivals needing a different way to get a visa like the Vietnam E-Visa.
Verdict: Visa on Arrival is really useful if you are in a pinch and need a visa quickly. If that is the case, then that one pro outweighs all of the cons of the Vietnam Visa on Arrival. If you are planning your vacation in advance, then getting your visa before you arrive might be a better option.
What is the Vietnam E-Visa?
I am glad you asked! The Vietnam E-visa is an excellent step forward for Vietnam. Adapting their tourism policies and infrastructure to their customers needs is very important and we are so excited to see that happening last year with the introduction of Vietnam E-Visa.
The first and most important thing you need to know about the Vietnam E-Visa
You can only get the Vietnam Visa here ->
Any other site is not an E-Visa and is either a scam or just signing you up for the Visa on Arrival.
This is so important I am gonna say it twice ?
You can only get the Vietnam Visa here ->
Alright, Now that we have that cleared up let's get into understanding what you’ll need for the E-Visa.
You will need a photo of yourself that looks like this. Your face will need to be clear with a white or light colored background.
The next thing you will need is a clear photo of your passport details that looks like this.
Here are a few tips from struggles we have read about online.
Be sure that your photos are Jpeg images
You might need to resize the photo so that it is smaller for upload if you are using a photo from your phone rather than scanning your passport and photo. This can easily done by opening Paint program and resizing the photo to a smaller size.
To resize the image copy:
Right click on the image file in the File Explorer, select Open With, Paint.
Select main menu item Image, Stretch/Skew … Change the Horizontal and Vertical percentages to a percentage less than 100. Keep the percentages equal to preserve the aspect ratio.
Select the main menu item File >> Save As to save the resized image.
After you have all that, its a simple process of filling in and submitting the form.
You will need to pay $25 for your Vietnam E-Visa which is Single Entry for 30 days which should cover most travelers coming to Vietnam.
The Pro’s and Con’s of the Vietnam E-Visa
  Vietnam E-Visa Pro’s:
  Cheap
The E-Visa is the cheapest option out of all three. At $25 for a 30 day single entry this is a nice price compared to the charge by embassies and consulates. Its not such a far departure from the price for Vietnams Visa on Arrival but still cheaper.
Credit/Debit Payment
This is the only option for paying your full Visa fee with a credit or debit card.
3-5 Day Approval
Receiving your Visa back in 3-5 days is great turn around for the complete Visa.
All Ports
You can use your E-Visa at every port of entry into Vietnam.
Simple Process
After viewing the website and entry form, this is a simple process to get your visa.
Peace of Mind
Once you have received your Visa with No Errors on it, you are 100% done, just go right through immigration when you get to Vietnam with no worries. Personally, this is my favorite part, I like knowing that things are complete and done with no hang ups.
  Vietnam E-Visa Con’s:
No Option For Multi Entry or Longer Stay
The current process doesn’t allow for travelers to select anything other than the 30 day single entry Vietnam Visa. If you need to leave and come back, you will need to have another Visa.
Filling out Forms
Currently, you can only apply for 1 visa at a time on the website. This means a family of 4 will have to enter in 4 different forms and make 4 different payments on the government website for the Vietnam E-Visa. This is a bit painful for most of us, but might be worth it when considering the price.
Website Issues
It seems that the website has some issues every now and again not letting people submit photos. These seems to be debugged rather quickly and sometimes are user errors but it travelers should still be aware.
Typos
Some name Typos may occur on your visa, these issues can from from the user or the immigration office. Either one still causes an issue going through immigration if the name on your Visa doesn’t match your passport. Please check each name carefully.
This wraps up most everything you would need to know when it comes to getting a Vietnam Visa. As you can see there are multiple options with multiple pro’s and con’s.
If you have any more questions about traveling to Vietnam or the Visa Process, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected]. We would love to help!

Best Virtual Mailbox Service For Travelers & Digital Nomads
My virtual mailbox service is incredibly helpful for running my online business and getting paid to travel around the world!
I use it to receive payments from clients, for business & personal bills, bank & credit card statements, legal documents, packages, and more.

What Is A Virtual Mailbox?
A virtual mailbox is a special service that gives you an actual physical mailing address, that you can use as your permanent address for sending all your physical mail and packages, even if you’re traveling overseas.
Typical Virtual Mailbox Services Include:
Online mail notification
Online viewing of envelopes & packages
Open and scan contents of your mail
Mail forwarding
Shred, dispose or recycling of mail
Package storage and shipping
Check deposit service
Signature upon delivery
Different online travel mailbox services offer different features. Some are more advanced than others.
There’s usually a base price with additional fees depending on which extra’s you want (like check deposit) or how much mail you receive.
Some virtual mailboxes offer a PO box address, while others offer a real physical street address — which is often required for many banks and official government correspondence.
Top Virtual Mailbox Services For Travel
Who Should Consider A Virtual Mailbox?
Long-Term Travelers
You’ve saved money for years, and are now planning your dream trip around the world. But who will take care of your mail? If you don’t want to burden family or friends with sorting your mail, a virtual mailbox is a perfect option.
Digital Nomads
Are you one of the 4.8 million Americans who now call themselves digital nomads? Technology has made the digital office a reality for many, and now you don’t have to be tied down by physical mail either.
RVers & Vanlifers
Living out of a vehicle like an RV or campervan poses a challenge to receiving your mail & packages, especially if you’re on the road. Forward your mail to the next RV campground you plan to stop at, no matter what state you’re driving through.
Expats
Are you living overseas in a foreign country with a travel-friendly job, but want to keep a physical mailing address in the US for billing, voting, and tax purposes? Sign up for a virtual mailing address in your former home state.
How To Set Up Mail Forwarding
To officially authorize your virtual mail service to receive mail on your behalf, you need to complete USPS Form 1583 and have it notarized.
Unless you’re signing up for Earth Class Mail, who offers free complimentary notarized online activation, you’ll need to get the form notarized in person.
Or if you’re already outside the United States — through an online notary service like NotaryCam (which only costs $25).
Where To Pick Up Your Mail
So, now that you have your virtual mailbox set up, where do you actually forward your mail if you’re living out of an RV or backpacking overseas?
Hotels
Some nicer hotels will let you forward mail and packages to them if you have a reservation there. The problem is timing your stay with when the mail will arrive. I’ve done this a few times. It’s safer to book a room for a least a few days.
Coworking Spaces
Many coworking spaces allow members to receive mail at the office. Again, you may need to sign up to become a member for a week, a month, etc.
Local Post Offices
Some post offices in foreign countries allow you to forward your mail to them, to be picked up later.
FedEx, UPS, DHL
It’s also possible to send packages to the local office of these popular shipping companies, where you can then pick it up when you arrive. You’ll need to ship it via their particular service though. I’d call ahead to let them know what you want to do, and ask how long they’ll hold your package for you.
Virtual Mailbox Tips & Advice
Reduce the amount of physical mail you generate by signing up for paperless billing and online statements. Opt out of credit card & insurance offers using https://www.optoutprescreen.com/
Many financial institutions require a physical mailing address and don’t allow PO boxes. Make sure to choose a plan accordingly.
When picking a virtual mailbox service, pay attention to the plan limits and figure out how much mail you think you’ll receive.
You might be able to reduce your state taxes by setting up residency in a state with no income tax. Pick a virtual address in that same state.

Letter showing true tragedy of Meghan Markle's rift with her father - Daily Mail
New Post has been published on https://harryandmeghan.xyz/letter-showing-true-tragedy-of-meghan-markles-rift-with-her-father-daily-mail/
Letter showing true tragedy of Meghan Markle's rift with her father - Daily Mail
The full content of a sensational letter written by the Duchess of Sussex to her estranged father shortly after her wedding can be revealed for the first time today.
Its existence emerged last week after five close friends of the Duchess gave anonymous interviews to an American celebrity magazine.
They said the Duchess was so upset by her father Thomas Markle’s public attacks on her and Prince Harry that she penned the anguished letter begging him to patch up their differences privately.
But last night Mr Markle said the letter, extracts of which are published today by The Mail on Sunday, is far from conciliatory and has left him feeling ‘devastated’.
Thomas Markle has revealed the full content of a five-page letter written to him by his daughter the Duchess of Sussex
The bombshell five-page letter, sent in August last year, lays bare the true depths of the Duchess’s estrangement from her father.
In elegant script, she accuses him of breaking her heart ‘into a million pieces’ by giving interviews to the press, fabricating stories and attacking her new husband.
The Duchess also admonishes her father, in anguished tones, for siding with her half-sister Samantha – who has attacked her in the press – while she ‘silently suffered at the hand of her vicious lies’.
Her writing is elegant and distinctive. Over five pages, the Duchess of Sussex pours out her heart to her father in a letter written last August – three months after their bitter rift began. Time and again, she chastises him for the hurt and pain he has caused her and insists she and Prince Harry did all they could to help Thomas Markle, even when he pulled out of the Royal Wedding days before their May 19 nuptials
Meghan’s sad opening message to ‘Daddy’ as she sits down to pour out her heart to her estranged father over five handwritten pages
The Duchess claims Mr Markle causes her pain by being manipulated in the media but he insists ‘I love her with all my heart’
She goes on to complain that Mr Markle has made no attempt to contact her – and chastises him for falsely telling journalists he is the one who has been shunned – a criticism her father vehemently refutes.
She also accuses her father of snubbing her and Prince Harry’s offers to help when he pulled out of attending their wedding following two heart attacks and accuses him of being ungrateful for money she has given him.
The former award-winning Hollywood lighting director, who now lives in Mexico, said that he never intended to make the handwritten missive public ‘out of respect for Meghan’ – but says he has been forced to do so now because its contents have been falsely portrayed.
Mr Markle insists: ‘I sent Meg and Harry a text telling them I wasn’t coming. It was too dangerous after my heart attacks’
Mr Markle says he only asked for help to move house and that any ‘modest’ financial gifts from Meghan were ‘greatly appreciated’
Her father says: ‘I didn’t stop answering my phone. I was in hospital with a heart attack! Meg and Harry knew what was going on’
Mr Markle comments: ‘I have no idea what this means. This is pure Harry. Americans don’t use the “rabbit hole” expression’
Meghan complains Thomas sided with her half-sister Samantha in criticising her, but he insists: ‘I never wanted Meg to suffer.’
Contrary to claims made by the Duchess’s friends, he said the letter made no attempt to heal their bitter rift. ‘I thought it would be an olive branch. Instead, it was a dagger to the heart,’ Mr Markle, 74, said last night.
He dismissed suggestions he has made no attempt to patch things up since her wedding. He showed this newspaper texts which he says prove he reached out multiple times to his daughter and the son-in-law he has never met.
The US magazine People claimed to ‘put the record straight’ over the Duchess’s relationship with her father and criticism of her style as a Royal.
It was based on interviews with five friends – at least one of whom is thought to be one of the Duchess’s co-stars in Suits, the legal drama in which she starred for six years.
Thomas Markle says: ‘I’ve never attacked Harry. I asked him to man up’
He insists the Duchess is mistaken: ‘I have only ever spoken out in response to fake narratives and lies’
The Duchess refers to the MoS paparazzi photos story, right, but he insists he continued to reach out
The Duchess came under fire over her apparent decision to allow her confidantes to defend her in the extraordinary interview, without, it is understood, involving Kensington Palace.
The palace has refused to comment on whether the magazine’s anonymous sources had co-operated at the direct request of the Duchess or with her tacit approval.
Former Buckingham Palace press secretary Dickie Arbiter, who worked for both Prince Charles and the late Diana, Princess of Wales, feared the decision would only exacerbate issues.
He said: ‘Assuming – and as these sources are anonymous we don’t know for sure – that this was done with her agreement, it has opened a Pandora’s box. The issue with her father is an open wound and I’m not entirely sure it is the best idea to aggravate that.’
In her letter to her father, the Duchess begged him to stop attacking ‘patient, kind and understanding’ Prince Harry
Last night, Mr Markle said it was unfair for his daughter’s friends to use the media to ‘spin a line’ while he was being criticised for ‘giving a handful’ of interviews to the press. In the article last Wednesday, the Duchess’s friends said that she was devastated by his response to the letter, in which he suggested father and daughter pose for press pictures.
One friend said: ‘She feels like “that’s the opposite of what I’m saying. I’m telling you that I don’t want to communicate through the media, and you’re asking me to… Did you hear anything I said?” ’
Mr Markle said he had suggested the photo op as a way of showing the world they could be friends again, describing the Duchess’s reading of it as ‘tragic misunderstanding’ he wishes he could put straight. The rift between the Duchess and her father began after The Mail on Sunday revealed, just days before her wedding in May last year, that he had colluded with the paparazzi to stage a series of lucrative photo opportunities.
Such was his humiliation that he offered to pull out of attending the Royal Wedding and was later prevented from going after suffering two heart attacks.
Since then, he has given a series of damaging interviews in which he has spoken of his dismay at being cast adrift by his daughter and the Royal Family.
Thomas’s Anguished Reply
The Duchess insisted she phoned him, but he had no missed calls
Mr Markle says he never attacked Harry, but feels he should have met him before the wedding
Mr Markle insists his bid to reduce press intrusion was ‘completely misinterpreted’
Mr Markle says he never heard from his ex-wife after his plea to help him heal the rift
How Meghan’s media fightback led her father to reveal letter he wanted to keep secret
The Duchess’s father told no one about her letter and planned to ‘keep it totally private out of respect for her’ – until her friends launched their ‘attack’ on him last week.
Following Meghan’s ‘Duchess Difficult’ reputation and stories of her allegedly petulant behaviour like firing off 5am emails to staff and demanding air freshener be sprayed around musty St George’s Chapel, Windsor, Meghan is said to have authorised five of her closest friends to speak to US People magazine to correct the falsehoods.
The article painted Meghan in a glowing light, while insisting the negative stories about her were lies. But Mr Markle says Meghan’s decision to reveal the private letter in the pages of the magazine left him with no choice but to go public: ‘The letter was presented in a way that vilified me and wasn’t true,’ he said last night. ‘It was presented as her reaching out and writing a loving letter in the hope of healing the rift, but the letter isn’t like that at all. Meghan can’t have it both ways. She can’t use the press to get her message across but hang me out to dry. I have the right to defend myself.’
Experts have claimed the Duchess is walking a dangerous path by allegedly bypassing the palace press office.
Meghan Markle urged her father to stop ‘painful’ attacks on ‘patient, kind and understanding’ Prince Harry in five-page letter – but anguished dad says ‘I like him. I’ll always love you’
For months, the letter has stayed concealed in his battered black leather briefcase inside a simple FedEx envelope. Five pages, written in his daughter’s distinctive, elegant script – he shared it with no one because, he says: ‘It was just too painful.’
‘When I opened the letter I was hoping it was the olive branch I’d longed for,’ he said last night. ‘I was expecting something that would be a pathway to reconciliation. Instead, it was deeply hurtful. I was so devastated I couldn’t show it to anyone and never would have had it not been for the events of last week.’
Indeed, the existence of the letter – in which his daughter chastises her father time and again – was revealed by anonymous friends of the Duchess in a magazine article published in the US on Wednesday. It was portrayed as a loving missive from a heartbroken daughter anxious to heal the rift with her father.
Except it wasn’t.
In her letter to her father, the Duchess begged him to stop attacking ‘patient, kind and understanding’ Prince Harry
‘There was no loving message in there, nothing asking about my health, nothing from her saying, “Let’s get together and heal our differences,” Mr Markle, 74, said last night.
According to a ‘longtime friend’ of Meghan’s quoted in People: ‘After the wedding she wrote him a letter. She’s like, “Dad, I’m so heartbroken. I love you, I have one father. Please stop victimising me through the media so we can repair our relationship.” ’
Yet, Mr Markle insists, the letter again proves she and Harry have ‘misunderstood’ him – leading time and again to her believing one thing whereas, he insists, his reality is far different.
In one angry passage, the Duchess blasts her father for not telling her he would not walk her down the aisle. Prince Charles famously stood in at the last minute.
She writes: ’You’ve told the press that you called me to say you weren’t coming to the wedding – that didn’t happen because you never called.’
Mr Markle says this is ‘totally false’ and he has the text messages proving it.
He pulls out his phone and scrolls through dozens of text messages between himself, his daughter and Prince Harry.
In the turbulent week before his daughter’s May 19 wedding, Mr Markle was exposed by this newspaper as colluding with a paparazzi photographer. He later ended up in hospital after suffering two heart attacks and underwent an angioplasty procedure to unblock two arteries to his heart.
It is during this time that the relationship between him and the couple fell apart.
In her letter, the Duchess accuses him of ignoring her increasingly desperate attempts to reach him.
She writes: “From my phone alone, I called you over 20 times and you ignored my calls… leaving me in the days before our wedding worried, confused, shocked and absolutely blindsided.’
Mr Markle shakes his head: ‘I don’t know anything about 20 phone calls. There were no missed messages.’ He shows me a text message dated May 16 which, he insists, proves ‘conclusively’ that he told the couple he could not fly to the UK as planned.
The text reads: ‘Surgery went OK… The doctor will not allow me to fly so of course I’m sorry but I can’t come. Love you and wish you the best of everything.’
Mr Markle said: ‘The doctors absolutely refused to let me fly to the wedding after my procedure. As soon as I knew this, I texted Meg and Harry to let them know I couldn’t be there.’ Mr Markle insists he called his daughter after the rift began ‘but she never picked up.’
Thomas Markle has revealed the full content of a five-page letter written to him by his daughter the Duchess of Sussex
People magazine quotes a friend saying: ‘He knows how to get in touch with her. Her telephone number hasn’t changed. He’s never called; he’s never texted.’
In an extraordinary moment, Mr Markle dials his daughter’s number as we sit in a hotel room in Los Angeles. He activates the speakerphone. An automated voice responds: ‘The service you have attempted to use is restricted or unavailable.’
He says: ‘The number worked until a couple of weeks ago. I sent them numerous text messages and I tried calling. That recording is the message I get now on the number she says hasn’t changed.’
Reading the letter again is clearly deeply painful for a man who says he longs for nothing more than to be reunited with his pregnant daughter. He pauses: ‘This is not the girl I know. It’s not the way she talks. For her friends – and by default Meg – to portray this as a loving letter is ridiculous.
‘Love isn’t mentioned once in the entire thing. Meg wrote me tons of letters and cards over the years. She always signed off with “Love” or “Love you”.
‘This letter is cold. When she signs off it’s “Meg”. You read the way it ends and it felt like a final farewell to me. It doesn’t even start out with “Dear”. It’s just “Daddy”.’ He continues: ‘Meg accuses me in the letter of cashing in but I’ve only accepted a few payments. I worked it out and if I’d taken all the offers I’ve had, I could have made $600,000. I haven’t done that.’
He insists he did try to heal the rift in ‘multiple’ text messages, calls and in a heartfelt four-page letter he sent to Meghan after receiving hers.
Until last week’s article in People which disparagingly mentions his reply, he never knew she had received it. ‘They just stopped talking to me. I never heard from them after the wedding in May so by June I reached out.’
On June 10, he texted his daughter: ‘My surgery was successful. I will be on blood thinners and the diet for the rest of my life but I will live. Just thought you might want to know.’
On June 19, he again texted, saying he had spoken to Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain and given his first interview (in which he revealed private conversations with Harry about Brexit and President Trump) ‘because you guys don’t respond back to me’.
His phone is filled with texts to the couple. On October 24, he writes: ‘I don’t know if this is still your phone number or not? I don’t know if you received my letter. I am only giving two interviews to the press not hundreds and I haven’t made millions of dollars.’
Thomas Markle spoke out after five friends of his daughter gave an anonymous interview
Yet again, on November 8, he reaches out: ‘Please respond back to me. You shunned me long enough unless you plan this for a lifetime? I don’t like speaking to the press but when the announcement for the baby came out, seven cars and reporters were outside my house every day for seven days. I gave a statement and all the cars went away. Anyway, I’m very happy for you and Harry and I wish you all my love.’
The Duchess’s letter accuses him of asking for money: ‘You’ve said I never helped you financially and you’ve never asked me for help which is also untrue…’
Mr Markle responds that the Duchess – worth a reported $4 million before she married – never supported him financially: ‘Meghan’s given me cash gifts occasionally but I never begged or asked for them. She would send money at Christmas, birthdays. It was a couple of grand here or there.’
There is one expression in the letter that her father is convinced comes from Harry. It is when she refers to him being down a rabbit hole. She writes: ‘Please stop taking the bait from the press. I realise you are so far down this rabbit hole that you feel (or may feel) there’s no way out, but if you take a moment to pause I think you’ll see that being able to live with a clear conscience is more valuable than any payment.’ He says: ‘Americans don’t know what the hell “down the rabbit hole” means? It’s apparently to do with Alice In Wonderland. You Brits use it. That feels like pure Harry.’
Mr Markle is baffled at his daughter’s claim that he was given support from her LA-based ‘team’ and from the Palace.
She writes: ‘We all rallied around to support and protect you from Day 1 and this you know. So to hear about the attacks you’ve made at Harry in press who was nothing but patient, kind and understanding with you is perhaps the most painful of all.’
He responds: ‘I was left to hang out to dry both before and after the wedding. Not one person came to see me. My ex-wife Doria received an engagement announcement via two people from the British consulate in Los Angeles who went to her door. No one came to my door. I felt hurt. I’m only 120 miles from LA.
‘I haven’t attacked Harry. I told him to man up. I still believe he should have flown to LA to see me, first to ask for my daughter’s hand and later to sort out the problems between us. He has all the resources in the world at his disposal.’
The Duchess’s letter talks of her hurt when her father denied cooperating with the paparazzi pictures only for this newspaper to publish CCTV footage of him colluding with a photographer: ‘I believed you, trusted you and told you I loved you. The next morning the CCTV footage came out.’
He says: ‘I’ve apologised for that a hundred times. I made a mistake, I shouldn’t have done it but how many times do I need to say “I’m sorry?” I did the pictures because I was tired of being portrayed as a slob. They were calling my home a shack.’
Thomas insisted that he didn’t attack Harry but added that the Prince should have met him before the wedding
Mr Markle wrote a heartfelt reply to the Duchess’s letter in September. ‘I took a long time to write back because I wanted to address all her accusations.’
He wrote: ‘The last time we talked was about three days before the wedding because I was in a hospital bed and just had my procedure.’
The Duchess complained her father did nothing when her older half-sister Samantha – from Mr Markle’s first marriage – attacked her, calling her ‘a social climber with a soft spot for gingers’.
‘You watched me silently suffer at the hand of her (Samantha’s) vicious lies. I crumbled inside.’
In his letter, Mr Markle refers to his elder daughter by her pet name, ‘Babe’, saying: “I did try to control Babe. I have as much control over Babe… as I do over you!’
In People magazine, the Duchess’s friend dismissed her father’s letter, saying he used it to ask for a ‘photo op’. In fact, Mr Markle wrote: ‘I wish we could get together and take a photo for the whole world to see. If you and Harry don’t like it? Fake it for one photo and maybe some of the press will shut up!’
He says: ‘That request was totally misinterpreted. When Doria was photographed with Meghan and Harry for the first time it took the heat off Doria. It showed she was part of the family. I don’t want a picture for any other reason than if we show harmony then the press will back off.’
In desperation, he even reached out to Meghan’s mother Doria, who he divorced amicably when their daughter was three. He hand-delivered a one-page letter to Doria’s LA home last October. That letter, too, was met with stony silence.
Mr Markle says the estrangement from his daughter is affecting his health, causing ‘massive stress’.
‘I want nothing more than to sort this mess out. I would ask her and Harry to contact me. All it would take is one phone call and most of this craziness would stop.’
* Mr Markle neither asked for nor received payment for this article.

Custom Printing: The Print Job Is Not Over Yet
Three of my clients have print jobs in some stage of production at commercial printing shops. One client just uploaded stationery materials to one printer. Another client has a perfect-bound print book of essays on press. And a third client has a color swatch book at a third printer.
If you are a print broker or designer, you may be in a similar position. It is all too easy to move on to other work and take your eye off the ball. These jobs may be done in terms of your designing and producing press-ready art, but there are still a lot of things you need to attend to in order to ensure success.
The Book of Essays
One client has produced a print book of essays for a local university. Actually, I myself designed the book for her and also brokered the custom printing. My client has a firm deadline for delivery of final books. She has a public reading of her students’ essays in early December. (As I write this, it is early November, and the proof will be in my hands tomorrow.) The printer committed to a five- to seven-day turn-around for the proof, and a seven- to ten-day turn-around for the final print books.
This schedule seems wonderfully short for a perfect-bound book, but it bears close attention. It is also a good object lesson for PIE Blog readers. The scheduled five to seven days for a proof began when I uploaded press-ready files to the printer’s FTP site. If my files had included any errors (incorrect creation of PDFs as per printer’s requirements; problems with fonts, bleeds, or resolution; or even presentation of pages as spreads rather than individual pages), the printer would have flagged the book files and requested changes. The five- to seven-day turn-around on proofs would not have actually begun until all PDF files for the book were correct.
Moreover, the five- to seven-day turn-around on proofs would not have included weekends, and would not have included a two-day shipment time for sending proofs from the printer to my house. The same will be true for the seven- to ten-day turn-around on printed books, starting from the date of proof approval. Although this schedule will begin upon my (and my client’s) acceptance of the proof (plus its return over a one- or two-day period by USPS or FedEx), I must also factor in a shipping period after the ten-day period for books to leave the vendor and arrive at my client’s office.
What You Can Learn from This Case Study
Build in plenty of time when estimating the overall production schedule by the printer. This may be particularly true for book printers (such as the one producing my client’s book). Fortunately, this printer will schedule a press date as soon as he has received the approved proof. From this press date, he can estimate the bindery date, shipping date, and potential delivery date. In your own work, request not only a general time frame for production by the printer, but also a specific press date and ship date as soon as you have approved the proof. If you have a fixed deadline for delivery and receipt of the books, brochures, or any other printed product, this schedule will keep both you and your printer on track.
Then, as the date approaches, follow up with your printer to make sure everything is on schedule. This is particularly important if your project includes a lot of steps (laminating, round-cornering, packaging in a specific way). If there are problems (for instance, if the printer is waiting for materials to be used in your job), it’s better to know early. So ask your CSR (customer service rep) before the shipping date. In the majority of cases you will get a more complete and accurate answer from your CSR than from your sales rep, since the CSR works with production schedules every day and therefore will usually have the most up to date information.
The Color Swatch Book
I just asked the CSR for an update on the schedule for another client’s book, a color swatch book used in selecting make-up and clothing colors based on one’s complexion and hair color.
This is a complex project often (depending on the printer) involving multiple vendors. This is because after the printing process, it requires laminating the pages, round-cornering the pages, drilling the books, and inserting a metal screw-and-post binding assembly into each print book. It also involves collation (there are 28 master books with between three and six copies to be printed from each master copy).
So a few days prior to the scheduled ship date I called the customer service rep and asked the status of the job. She told me the screw-and-post binding assemblies had not yet arrived. They should be there the following day, she said. I will have to keep in touch, since my client has been waiting a long time for this project. Her last printer had not done a good job, so my client’s clients have been waiting patiently. My client’s brand is on the line.
What You Can Learn from This Case Study
As with the prior job, it’s essential to keep up with your printer. He may have subcontracted out the binding of your book (many printers do not have in-house binding; even fewer have in-house case binding). Or he may have “jobbed out” your die cutting. Maybe you also need screw-and-post binding assemblies for your job. If your printer must rely on an outside vendor, this may affect your schedule. It is better to learn about this early. Be proactive. Contact your CSR as your estimated ship date approaches. Don’t wait for her/him to contact you.
The Stationery Package
This job involves flat cards, envelopes, and #10 envelopes. I solicited pricing from three vendors on behalf of my client. The list included the prior commercial printing vendor (this is a repeat job from several years ago). However, I made it clear to my client that this printer had been overwhelmed with work recently and therefore had not been as responsive as I expected a printer to be. I considered this to be temporary, but I did need to disclose this to my client.
Based on pricing, but even more so based on prior, positive experiences with this particular printer, my client’s client specifically asked to send the job to the printer I had been worried about. Fortunately, both I and my client had been completely clear about the risks (not in terms of lower quality but in terms of a longer-than-usual turn-around time). My client’s client had been apprised of our concerns.
What You Can Learn from This Case Study
Sometimes you will put a long-standing relationship with a printer above a current “bump in the road.” Perhaps the printer is overbooked, but you still want that particular printer to do your job. This is a risk. In my client’s case, all parties have been clear about the risk. Moreover, the job is a simple one involving no work subcontracted to outside vendors. Unlike the color swatch book described in the prior case study, it does not involve acquiring supplies not normally on hand (like the screw-and-post binding assemblies). Therefore, it is less of a risk than some jobs might be.
In your own print buying work, consider all the steps in such a job and be proactive. For instance, if the job takes longer than agreed upon to complete, will this be a problem? Do you have a hard deadline for your delivery? If not, and if the job is simple, you may still want to send your job to the printer. If not, you may want to pay a little more for another known vendor, or you may want to keep looking for a new vendor.
