#i just keep making posts recommending this mod bc it's been really fun

after a year of on-and-off playing, i finally finished persona 3 fes (the journey) and it was a very lovely experience! so i thought i’d write a post compiling some of my thoughts about it!

first things first, p3p or p3fes:

i enjoyed fes a LOT but for people who are looking for a smoother game experience and fun social links, i would suggest playing femc’s route on p3p, and then watch the p3 movies to see minato’s journey.

that said, if you feel that 3d models are important to help immerse yourself in the setting and storyline (like me!), i would still recommend playing fes!

and if you are not entirely sure if you want to commit to an 80+ hour long game… the movies are a very good starting point!

where im coming from:

before i actually get into Some of My Thoughts™, a lil’ precursor  i did go into fes with the general gist of p3’s plot (i watched the movies).

p3 fes was the second persona game i played (after p5r), but i have seen a good chunk of gameplay of the other games (p1, p2is, p3p, and p4g).

i can say that playing the game definitely heightened my appreciation for the characters and setting in a way that the movie couldn’t. soufhglkhdf i loved it. 

but anyways. some More Thoughts™ under the cut, mostly just about fes’s gameplay and Some Spoilers!

on the gameplay:

i think that playing fes after p5r was really interesting! i felt that i could see the foundation of what makes up the ‘modernsona’ games. it’s not as streamlined as p5r (no baton passes 💔) but i think it’s still playable (though that might be because i played on easy, lol).

tartarus, i found it… oddly calming? but i understand if people feel it’s repetitive, and not as interesting as the dungeons in p5r. i enjoy that tartarus isn’t as segmented since the story beats didn’t have to be tied to it.

i think the worst part of the gameplay to me was anything to do with the golden hands…. it’s very annoying to get into a battle with them on the map, and once you DO get into a fight they can just run away before you can do anything? so i’m glad that their appearances in p4g are much more fair and feel more rewarding bc i had to abuse so many save states just to hit the fuckers.

in regards to the ai, i think they’re alright unless you’re trying to pull off a more elaborate strategy that isn’t “knock down enemies and all out attack them.” i think the directions that you can give SEES are fairly straightforward but there have been times where their decisions are questionable (no mediaharan or… attacking when the final boss activated their reflect barrier… lol).

i found fes to be tolerable but i do think that sometimes enemy advantage attacks combined with the ai can be rather punishing when party members heal people that aren’t the leader (given the if protag dies = game over). totally not speaking from experience haha what do you mean (volume warning)???

if you’re playing on emulator i highly recommend keeping save states! i used them a lot for hands and the (groans) random skill mutations and. shuffle times. im cheap. i know. but don’t b afraid to make it easier for urself ✨ 

there’s also the new moon difficulty mod for anyone who’s concerned about the game balance, but i haven’t played it myself.

on the characters / story:

i liked sees when watching the movies, but gosh, playing the game really heightened my appreciation for them! especially yukari, i loved her social link and i really enjoyed getting to know her better.

that said. anyone who’s been in the p3 fandom long enough probably has heard that minato’s social links are… lackluster. there are a few good ones (that weren’t SEES) that i really liked- bebe (XIV), mutatsu (XVI), and akinari (XIX)! but all of these are… available in femc’s route and she gets a lot better options. i don’t want to sit through nozomi and kenji’s social links again </3

even if i feel that minato’s SLs are a bit meh, i really appreciate how SEES’s social links are handled and that their development does not hinge on minato DOING things- i think it allows for stronger and more believable character arcs and i loved seeing the different dynamics among the cast!

i think that playing the game and living out each day brings out the inherent strength of the persona calendar system- i really felt a stronger attachment to the characters and their individualized storylines than i did in the movies, which in turn enhanced my enjoyment of the themes portrayed in the narrative. which. i already enjoyed a lot (gestures a lot at ryoji mochizuki who everyone probably knows that he’s my favorite character ever).

if it’s not readily apparent! i really! enjoyed playing FES! im glad i chose it over p3p bc :) i like to look at minato and smile at his silly little animations. but uh. i think that’s all i have to say!

this is super boring but i love death by electrocution bc once in high school i played this super successful family, super functional, great kids, wonderful parents, and the mom died while trying to fix a dishwasher and it DEVASTATED me. no sims death has affected me that much it was insane.

i would say maxis match but c'mon i think most people like at least a little alpha texture sometimes.

i think it was city living?? i remember that was the pack my friend recommended bc she loved the festivals and fashion.

a little bit!! i know the barest basics of recoloring. the most sophisticated thing i've done is remove the clerical collar from a priest's shirt for a ghost-themed render.

ts3 will always have a special place in my heart, but it's the sims medieval!! i've always loved anything medieval themed and it's one of the few quest-based games i love playing bc you can also just hang out in this kingdom and have fun. playing as a physician is my favorite.

nah i actually don't own a lot of merch for anything. i like fan-made stuff a lot more, usually.

it honestly hasn't changed all that much. every once in a while i get super attached to a legacy and i still love townies and preexisting characters. i guess my interest in storytelling has matured a bit, but that's still only like a year old interest.

we need more music-themed gameplay. bands, orchestras, more instruments in general, etc. i also really want more supernatural gameplay but it'll be bittersweet bc ea will keep fragmenting it and making it cost more instead of the beautiful cohesive pack that was ts3 supernatural.

EXPERIENCE/HOW LONG (MONTHS / YEARS?): I’ve been doing this online roleplay thing for waaaayy too long, since around 2006 on obscure proboards forums lmao. I’ve been roleplaying on tumblr since 2010 after making the leap from livejournal! So around 16 years experience all together and 12 years experience on tumblr!

PLATFORMS YOU’VE USED: Forums, Livejournal, Dreamwidth, MSN, Skype, Discord, E-mail even... At one point I used facebook and twitter and those are rp platforms I do not recommend.

BEST EXPERIENCE: Greaterspeed!! There’s a reason I keep coming back to this doofus and it’s because I had so much fun writing him, and I still do! He’s changed a lot over the years but I have too, so I feel like I’ve really grown with him. He’s my dumbass blue hog stuck in 1999, I lov him!

RP PET PEEVES/DEALBREAKERS: Large spacing between letters/words. I’m dyslexic and formatting like that makes it super difficult for me too read! Small text isn’t too much of a deal breaker bc I can always zoom in, but man idc how pretty your post it, if I can’t read it then I’m outtie gomen!! I appreciate the aesthetics and the dedication to it though! 

FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT: I’m actually more of a domestic slice of life-y kinda person. That might fit under the category of fluff for some people, but it don’t gotta be fluffy. I like to write characters doing their daily, maybe that’s why I have Greater just chilling in Station Square so often. It’s fun, lets write your character joining Sonic as he buys mints for Tails!

Other than that though, I do like a bit of fluff and angst if the situation is right. Smut is a definite no from me though!

PLOTS OR MEMES:  BOTH? BOTH IS GOOD. I’m always open for plotting, but sometimes how spontaneous memes can be just hits right! That’s usually when I slide in the DMs and start screeching to another mod about how this could go. 

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: BOTH TOO. It’s also kind of situational, like sometimes you just a need punch and a short reply is nice and punchy, other times you gotta map something out so a longer reply it is. As long as it’s substantial enough to reply to then we’re all good imo!!

BEST TIME TO WRITE: I write mainly in the evenings and night time! Sometimes I write during the day if I have a free day!

ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S): I like to think there’s a piece of us all in our characters, after all you generally draw from your own experiences when you interpret a story and it’s characters. I don’t think I’m really like Sonic in a lot of ways, but there are ways that I do identify with him, and the same goes for my other characters!

Also Sonic’s speech patterns definitely wore off on me over the years of writing him... ^^;

HEY BY THE WAY if you're terrified of mojang's new chat report system that just rolled out, let me introduce you to essential :] it's a cosmetics mod for minecraft (requires forge or farbic to install) that has a lot of neat features, one of those being a messaging system! it uses the minecraft font with a texting layout. it'll also save all of your messages unlike minecraft which will refresh when you close and reopen the game. it also allows for you to send messages anywhere, even if you're on different servers, singleplayer worlds, or haven't even left the title screen yet

you can also make group chats :0 haven't tested that out yet since as of now i've just got two people added on it KJHFJKDSG

it also allows you to invite people you know to servers with you OR singleplayer worlds!

if you're using forge, it's available in a few versions from 1.8.9 up to 1.18.2. if you have fabric, you can get it in 1.16.5 up to 1.19 as of me making this post. no 1.19.1 yet, but i'd imagine with everything going on there probably will be one. the 1.19 update just recently came out, i'm not sure which versions they plan to support

you have so much freedom in grailed. it’s not like we were told to tag our stuffs (aside from triggering and heavy themes, which you should do because you are a person that is considerate of your followers, whether you are affiliated or not), to choose who to prioritize (i do this on my own accord, because i want the people in it to feel INCLUDED, because that’s the point of them joining.) or be here 24/7. the last part is important because i am someone who works every weekdays and i come home very late. it’s a challenge for me to jumble through my blogs and be expected to be here all the time. i can rp without forcing myself to come up with something just to meet an activity requirement. grailed doesn’t have that. it respects your limits and your being human. the mods themselves emphasize this as they, too, have a life outside of pretending to be a fictional character online.

MATCHING URLS BRO!!! this actually wasn’t a rule when it first opened. i am the guilty party who suggested it because i thought it was cute??? and it appeared that one of the mods and i shared that idea, so we decided to go through with it and it just feels?? really nice. to be included in something and to feel like you have a group of people you can rely on. as one of the mods have said to us ‘we are a family here’. isn’t that nice to hear though?? that you have a family in this community that you can always go to for stuffs without feeling like a bother. i’ve felt this a lot when i first started on the indie community, bc i never knew who to approach and stuffs. it’s just nice to see that grailed is making that effort to emphasize INCLUSION, which is becoming tame in the community. i also wish that the indie community could improve on this! this isn’t a sympathy that only extends on grailed. i hope for all RPCS to never ignore others in it. that we can be one whole community, you know? grailed isn’t attempting to discourage others or feel like the indie scene is a dying breed.

you can easily call all the members your friends. even though you’ve barely met or have barely talked outside of rping, when you’re in just one small chat, everyone can talk and have fun. you don’t have to worry about being judged when you feel like you have something that you need to say. everyone is just kind. what i want you to understand from this is that, THE GROUP HAS ALLOWANCE FOR MISTAKES. it doesn’t persecute you for what you do, what you did, what you want to do. we’re all human here. a lot of us had forgotten that over time.

i joined because i was kidnapped. i was being myself, minding my own business, having my own fun, being some nerd then ARTORIAS COMES AND ATTACKS ME ON MY DMS.. PUT A GUN TO MY HEAD AND SAID ‘join grailedrpg or i’ll murder you in cold blood’ blease… i feel so threatened :( that’s why i’m here. he threatened me so much and i am just one scared bean!!! of course that are lies. artorias came to me and gave me news about him opening an rpg. he is someone who used to be in the indie fate community and had disappeared, only to come back and give me this gift that is grailedrpg. he just asked me to check it. he didn’t put a knife to my neck and said i’ll stub my toe on a lego if didn’t join. he was very respectful and not forceful with inviting me. i wanted to give it a chance because i adored his writing and wanted to see how it could grow from here. so it was just me considering, and now i’m in this hellhole because artorias didn’t want to give me peace :(

if you decide to join: tell mod vixxey she’s the ultimate furry, mod skoll needs like five hugs and mod artorias need to stop bullying me i have done nothing :(on a more serious note: i highly encourage that you still open yourself to outside interactions! you don’t have to, but majority of the members are, because grailed strives for that kind of openness. never allow the indie community to feel like they’re being overshadowed or forgotten. never let others feel that joining grailed is a trend, because it’s not. it’s a place full of fun and promotes a healthy place for writing and encourages that WE SHARE THAT ENERGY TO OUTSIDE PEOPLE. we do not keep this to ourselves, nor would we deprive others of what grailed is teaching us and shaping us to be and become.while the usage of live action fcs are heavily recommended, you’re not out of the times for not using it. it’s not a mandatory rule, but something that most of the member base just want to do because it’s the core of the group first and foremost. it’s what the mods were striving in the first place. they have decided to compromise and have changed the mandatory rule to become an option in hopes of the people understanding that the mods want it to become a fun place. see?? the mods are even compromising a lot, and grailed hasn’t even been around for long. so when you do join, never forget to thank the mods for their hard-work. it’s never easy to handle a community!

hey i’m looking to get into a role play but i’ve never done it before so do you have any recommendations on how to start, how to roleplay, etc??

aw man, uhhh… well, I got some wc ones! Land of the Lost is currently accepting, a new reboot of Clans of the Shoshone, Falling Leaves (for Pack and Clan), and Left in Lesdin’s gonna be opening soon! 

for how to start, I def recommend creating a character you want to rp - you want one that you can connect to, and can rp often. I’ve created characters on a whim multiple times before, which… wasn’t great bc I ended up abandoning them basically which was just a mess dfjhfdh

start with a design, name, and a base personality, but give yourself room for them to grow!! if you have any ideas in mind with them, definitely talk to a mod if you’re in a group rp, like the ones I listed. you can talk to others to set up relationships, or just rp and build them from there! you can be vague with family and bg, or go all out! tho it def depends on what the rp has going on, bc you may want to add bg events to their bio o: also there’s normally a bio format posted with each rp, so you don’t need to worry about setting one up!

also, bc apps are through google docs, I highly recommend saving any oc info you make bc I keep forgetting to do that and I immediately forget what I wrote dsfhjfdsh

with rping in general, it’s gonna depend on the rp! usually the ones I’m in are more literate, which asks for at least a paragraph reply, but it’s not always the case! also, you don’t have to be a writer to rp! it may be awkward at first, but it definitely gets easier as you rp more and more - I’ll give an example at the end!

outside of discord, I have no idea ahah - I know there are a lot of forum rps out there, and it’s been a few years since I’ve used the forums on fanfiction net so idk if those are even still active ahah

tumblr rp has changed a lot - before, all you had to do was set up a blog (side or main - I prefer main bc it’s easier to follow other rp blogs and get recognized), and either rp as a canon character or an oc! ofc they don’t need to be a fandom oc, they can just be an og one!

but for tumblr rp, you def gotta think of a solid character bg if an oc (fandom or not) bc it’s easier for everyone when other muns can look and see who your character is. I def recommend setting up a rule page, so that way you can explain what stuff you want to avoid (for me was nsfw stuff mostly), or stuff you’re fine with (a lot of people would mention age ranges they were comfortable with when it came to other muns - like there were a few rp blogs that would only interact with people 18+ or 21+, which was a good thing tbh)

it’s def been a hot minute since I’ve rped on here, but when you make an oc to rp, this is where it gets hella important to make sure you can connect with them - I ended up ditching a lot of blogs bc I lost muse, and it’s a bummer tbh, but it does happen. also idk if rping is still active here or not? bc last I check the marvel rp tag it was just. ads for group rps and idk if they’re tumblr based anymore

anyway, tumblr rping is def gonna be harder! just bc it’s hard to get off the ground at the beginning, and it’s just… idk, weird? some people won’t respond to you and things get lost and it can become a mess, but at the same time, it can be a lot of fun! it just really depends on how you handle stuff and how active you are really

The pale queen had arrived shortly after Aspenstar and Jaggedstripe settled Badgerwing’s body down in the flowers. She would’ve been with them, matching their steps stride by stride, but she had to check on her kits before she left. She had seen how frightened they were with the thunder alone, and she couldn’t imagine the confusion the little ones must’ve felt when their Clanmates began to panic at the death before Aspenstar soothed them. They were far too young to understand death, and she could only pray that it wouldn’t affect them. And despite how collected she had seemed back in camp, it was clear the deputy’s death had was not taken lightly - her steps were slow, her eyes misted with grief.

 A shaky breath escaped her jaws as Mistfang slowed to a stop beside her gathered Clanmates, the air thick with grief and tension. Finchpaw spoke, then Grasspelt. Jaggedstripe stepped toward Badgerwing next, but it was clear she was in too much pain to speak. But… as she gazed around at the others, her throat tightened with grief. Was no one else going to speak? Bluestone remained silent. Hootnose was silent as well, his gaze averted, and it was clear he wished to be anywhere but there. She just hoped their silence wasn’t from hostility - from them still holding a grudge for her leaving them for so long.

With a shake of her head, the molly slowly stepped forward, leaning down to rasp her tongue over Badgerwing’s head. “You were larger than life,” she said at last, her voice soft as ever. “You helped us each in your own way, and I feel my words can never be enough to explain my gratitude. You saved my life, and helped me with my kits. I can’t thank you enough for everything you have done. I hope you find comfort in StarClan, and I wish you all the best.”

It was shorter than she would’ve liked, but Mistfang hadn’t been close to Badgerwing - not as much as she would’ve liked. But regrets were useless, and she knew the dangers of getting lost in the what-ifs. As long as the deputy was safe in StarClan, free of any pain and of any troubles, then she knew it would be okay. It had to be. 

Slowly, Mistfang took a few steps back, head bowed as she sat down.
