That stuff about the guys being told about yuu's got me also thinking about being told about their myths, legends, and fairy tails. A world without magic still has all these stories about mers or fae....tho they prob shouldn't be told about some darker stuff...theres certainly an interesting one about how eating the flesh of a mermaid's tail will give eternal youth/life and a lot about fae eating or stealing kids.

You are very ok friend, the differences between our world's fairy tales and twst's is something I have been thinking about specifically because of things like this σ(￣、￣=) As long as you don't actively describe the process of eating other people I'm usually ok.

The mermaid flesh myth is more or less specific to Japan (at least i think) and while it does grant you eternal life it's also extremely taboo. You gain eternal life, but are more or less cursed and forced to live a solitary existence. Twisted Wonderland actually sort of references this in the first Halloween Event. As part of their plan to spook off the magicam monsters Azul tells them that mummified merfolk used to be seen as a sort of cure all by humans, which also is true of human mummies in our world, but we don't know if that's a real "fact" in this world or shit Azul made up to scare the guests. The octotrio in general do not seem to shy away from darker implications, so I could see them not being so disgusted they don't want to learn about it. (I could see Floyd maybe making a few rather tasteless jokes that get worse as Jade encourages him. Azul just wants to assure you that his flesh has no medicinal properties.)

As for the fae... I think Lilia would be the most interested in learning these things, which I say a lot in these posts but I want to point out that he places a big emphasis on learning about how other people see the world. He might not want to be active in Briar Valley politics anymore, but I could see him encouraging Yuu to talk about how their world sees fae with Malleus specifically so he can think about how to responsibly use his power. It's obvious to them that they don't eat children or steal them away, but why might people think that way? Lilia seems to think it's important to try and understand that, which makes me really like him tbh

What I would really want the octotrio's (and diasmonia gang to a lesser extent) opinion on is things like Selkies. I mentioned in my long fic musing that how Disney's Hercules and the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice play out are very different, but the same sort of goes for other love stories in our world. The concept of stealing yourself a wife is featured a lot in certain myths, and the couple doesn't always live happily ever after. I rather like the idea of a Yuu who despite being the more good aligned character is extremely resigned to tragedy and things ending baldy vs the twst boy their in love with thinking that specifically because they are in love with Yuu things should work out because in their world myths about love end happily. You could make that dynamic toxic, but I like to think of it in the sense that despite not being the best person, whoever you ship Yuu with will literally move the heavens and earth for them so they can get that happy ending.

Writing up a Genshin OC finally. Probably will have to adjust as the series goes on but I do want to put something down so I’m not just dragging my feet anymore. I have a couple things from my usual making of profiles for muses and stuff, but for this one using the questions from @genshin-impact-ocs‘ post about helping make one. So thank you for such a useful guide.

Name: Nyssa

Birth Name: Danica

Appearance:

Nyssa has an average height compared to others. She has light brown skin and there is a Lichtenberg figure around her left hand and lower arm. However she has gloves and vambraces to cover this. Her wavy hair is a blue color that she wears down most days (may or may not be dyed). Her eyes are a purple color. 

Personality:

Nyssa despite being from outside the land, fits as ‘a child of freedom’ within Mondstadt. She is usually doing whatever whims catch her fancy and wandering anywhere the wind seems to take her. However she isn’t without some responsibility, usually reliable for tasks albeit never straightforward with when she might accomplish it and makes good on her word. 

Nyssa tends to soak in all around her and seems to hold an appreciation for all of it. Despite picking up the 200th sweet flower, she might notice the shade of its petals or still love its scent. She genuinely likes the presence of others even if she can’t always articulate such. She takes time to remember little things like the stray comment of not liking a certain smell or a seat preference. There is a longing to be able to physically reach out to others but holds back out of habit.

There is another aspect of Nyssa that doesn’t get exposed often unless it has to do with Fatui or her background. The Fatui she can usually get away with as she would ask ‘who DOES like those guys?’ However her past causes a stormy look in her eyes and the air seems to crackle before she tells a completely innocuous tale. Which doesn’t sound like lying but also not descriptive enough to sound like it could come from anyone’s memory. 

Questions:

• What's their occupation?

By technicality, Nyssa is an adventurer. She completes commissions for the guild as the main form of livelihood. Her specialty is searches so she often is charged to find lost pets and to locate where enemies gather. However she also serves as an informant although she usually uses Vile as a medium as she doesn’t want to be questioned for how she gathers information. 

• Do they have any affect on the main plot of Genshin Impact? How?

Not as of now. She may when it comes to knowing more about Snezhnaya and the creation/experimentation of delusions. At most she is a lead for the protagonist to follow into that area. 

• What's your character's plotline? Do they have any side quests associated with them?

Nyssa’s has to do with her background. Her helping the Traveler towards Snezhnaya, makes it clear she knows more than a normal citizen does. What is found is that Nyssa was apart of the Fatui, being an Electro Cicin Mage. It was seen as an honor and, by her admission, she thought it was for such a long time. However what changed was looking into making stronger Delusions. While any of the Harbingers would likely be willing to test them out, they were also immense assets to the Fatui. So testing with lesser members was sought first to bring down the risk to the Harbingers. There were two issues though, 1) most lower ranking members did not have constitution nor power to handle these Delusions and 2) those that did survive often didn’t come out without afflictions. 

Nyssa was in the latter. She doesn’t quite understand all the mechanics as she was just a grunt in the cogs of the organization. But she knew she was afraid to die for someone that held not regard for her nor any of her coworkers and ran away before undergoing an experiment she was certain going to end her life.

Can’t think of any specific side quests other than her asking for assistance on her commissions back in Mondstadt. 

• How did your character gain their Vision and/or Delusion?

Nyssa’s Vision was originally simply an inactive one. It was one from an elder that she was close to as she reminded them of their deceased child. It was a gift given to her when she joined the Fatui. And while she channeled Electro through a delusion, she never had the power herself. What activated it was her escape. She ran away. Through snow and ice. Through excruciating pain of withdrawal. Through pursuit that broke her usual Delusion. She was taunted as she was being dragged as she was a fake only granted her ability by the Tsaritsa’s grace. And Nyssa wished for her power to be real. To not be a fake. To be free of this mistake. To win this otherwise sad tale. And her Vision glowed from the present from an old friend and with it, she shook off her pursuers and ran. 

I debate a different Delusion as apart of the above testing but haven’t thought on what it would do yet? I need a bit more time on that. However I did think of it being made with or powered with Mist Grass. It has a side effect where the Mist Grass essence gets into Nyssa and it works like a drug. One that makes her feel like the world is masses of equations and she can see the answers. It makes her stronger obviously but afterwards is like a nasty withdrawal and weakness. It makes her avoid and fear Mist Grass in her proximity. 

 Is your character in love with any of the characters? Which one and why?

Nyssa is in love with Diluc. She is aware of his vigilante antics and finds it very admirable as she wonder if that’s what one means about being a ‘child of freedom.’ But she didn’t intend to fall for Diluc as, unsurprisingly, he’s doesn’t seem like her type. But working with him, she fell for the strength of his conviction and finds how he expresses concern to be utterly adorable. 

(I just want a high chance of angst and this worked out the best tbh.)

• Do they have any biological family left? If they do, what is their relationship to those family members?

Yes she does, her parents and sibling are all alive. However she has not been in contact with them since she ran away. And even if she was able to contact them, Nyssa is certain of the rejection from them due to her turning her back on the Fatui and her homeland. 

• Do they enjoy Xiangling's slimy dishes?

She eats them out of politeness but hates the texture of it. She wonders why you would resort to slimes of all things. She can almost imagine their dead eyes staring back at her in the dishes, furthering her dislike of it. 

• Do they enjoy Barbara's singing? Why or why not?

‘Who doesn’t?’ would be her reaction. She thinks Barbara sings very nicely. Especially within the walls of the cathedral. Although she would admit her style is still more of bards around the town and in taverns. 

• What do they think of the Archons?

Archons are like humans in the sense that they can accomplish whatever they want, which can help or harm. Generally she views them favorably as it was the Tsaritsa’s grace that let her hold onto power through Delusion until she received her Vision. It was also Barbatos that aided her last leg and welcomed her to his land. However, she is also aware that the Tsaritsa’s will allowed the experiments that hurt her. Nyssa generally has a curiosity though as to why Baal granted her a Vision before Barbatos could. 

Miscellaneous:

Despite originally being a mage, Nyssa uses polearms instead

Her name, appearance and weapon change was all in her pursuit to free herself from her past

She puts up with a lot of Venti’s stuff with only bitching because of her gratitude

She’s deeply fearful of Kaeya as he is the person most likely to discover her past and afraid of what he’d do to her with that information. However surface level, they seem to get along quite well to any outsider.

What expectations do you hold towards your plotting partner:  .  I dunno how to really word this one in particular. I  usually don’t like overplotting, so be open to some flexibility. Frameworking is fine but I don’t wanna script stuff from the getgo. Also please work WITH me? If I’m the one throwing out ideas and all I’m getting is a simple ‘eh’ or ‘no’, or just in general if you’re not helping contribute. Like....I get being anxious but I need something to work with? Suggestions. Recommended alterations to my ideas? There’s nothing more absurd to deal with than someone who agrees to plot with you only to contribute nothing and just shoot stuff down. 

When you notice the plotting is rather one-sided, what do you do?:  I’ll try my best to work with it. Some people aren’t great with cranking out ideas, I get that. Heck sometimes I myself don’t feel like coming up with a lot of stuff. But at some point I’m gonna ask them to put in a little effort if we’re not getting anywhere. 

How do you usually plot with others, do you give input or leave most work towards your partner?: I at the VERY least give input. Ask questions, things like that. I’ll generally come up with a few off the top ideas to try and get things rolling. 

When a partner drops the thread, do you wish to know?:   YES / NO / DEPENDS. - And why?:  I wouldn’t mind a poke, but I know stuff can be complicated. Wether you’re busy, losing muse, or you just don’t know how to progress a scene? I’ve certainly had plenty of threads, enjoyable or otherwise, where I say to myself ‘.....I think this is fine here’. Or ‘I don’t know where I’m supposed to go from here’. So I don’t mind if you kinda let it slip into the night. Though a heads up is always appreciated.  - What should your partner do when dropping a thread?:  Kinda outlined up above. But MOST of all, don’t be AFRAID to let me know. I’ll understand 

What could possibly lead you to drop a thread?:  . Business, fatigue, lack of enthusiasm, not knowing how to progress. Or characters that clearly do not want to interact with my muse icly. I know some people really like playing these sorts of individuals, but like yea...uphill battles of that kind can really take it out of me.  - Will you tell your partner?:   YES / NO / DEPENDS.

Is communication in the rpc important to you?   YES / NO. - And why?:  As much as I don’t really require it, because well, I know people have a lot of followers and such, I do feel like a rapport while not required is definitely very constructive to interaction. And honestly, communication tends to help smooth out drama a bit. Which honestly is one of the only big negatives to this kinda community.  - Are you okay with absolute honesty, even if it may means hearing something negative about you and/or portrayal?: Absolutely! I very much encourage people, off anon (though I understand if they prefer the metaphorical mask), to inform me of something they may not like about me or my muses. Even if it may hurt my feelings, I enjoy being able to address and explain things. Cuz it sure beats the hell out of people making assumptions.  - Do you think you can handle such situation in a mature way?  YES / NO.

Why do you rp again, is there a goal?:   Enjoyment. This is a hobby, and I think some people take this a bit too seriously. I’m here to have fun, explore my muses, and that of those I interact with. Get messy, make mistakes, and for pete’s sake chill. 

Wishlist, be it plots or scenarios:  Nothing comes to mind speeeecifically... Honestly for most of my muses, just having someone who WANTS to interact with them is golden. Though I admit to being a bit of a ship goblin from time to time. 

Themes I won’t ever rp / explore:  Nothing outright disgusting or gratuitous. Torture, psychological trauma, ect is fine. That’s how things roll, and I don’t mind them being part of a scene. What I don’t get into is something that’s there for the sake of it. Am I ok with my character being tortured for information? Absolutely. Will I indulge in a thread that’s just some kind of weird torture porn? No. Don’t let it get out of hand. I won’t judge you because cmon, it’s rp. But I reserve the right to decline being a part of it. 

What Type of Starters do you prefer / dislike, can’t work with?: Anything tbh. The only real awkward starters are like.....really specific shoehorning. Or like, an immediate conflict at my character’s detriment. I get having an unusual introduction. I’ve had people who start with shit like “WHAT ARE YOU DOING BREAKING INTO MY HOUSE?” Like cmon. Number one, even I don’t know why my character would break into your house, so they probably Didn’t. Please do not assume the worst and START things off on a bad foot. 

What type of characters catch your interest the most?:  Multifaceted. Not that I judge anyone for being more ...affixed on a particular aspect of their character. Some people are very keen on getting a certain type of rp. Some people just outright play a character who isn’t really shown to be anything other than one thing. But I enjoy exploration of a personality. And a personality, no mater how dull, stupid, or simple someone is, is NEVER monofaceted. I enjoy a muse that has something to dig for or explore emotionally. 

What type of characters catch your interest the least?:  Asocials. I’ve had some decent rp with them SOMEtimes? But like....there’s nothing more aggravating than trying to interact with a character who wants to be left alone and be isolated. Especially ones that are AGGRESSIVELY against it. Especially since I have to WORK to MAKE my character even want to interact with them. 

What are your strong aspects as rp partner?:  MY.......errr....en...thusiasm? I don’t actually know tbh. My malleability with my muses perhaps? Errr I like thinking about stuff. IF you ask me a question, I will do my best to answer it and explore the realm within that question. I dunno what you would exactly call that though... I am ...headcannony?

What are your weak aspects as rp partner?: I am flaky. Sometimes it’s cuz of real life getting hard. Sometimes it’s because I need a break from tumblr. Sometimes I just poof and forget about tumblr for like a while. But yea. I have a tendency to vanish, it’s something I’m working on but it’s something that happens. 

Do you rp smut?:  YES / NO. Do you prefer to go into detail?:  YES / NO / DEPENDS. Are you okay with black curtain?:  YES / NO. - When do you rp smut? More out of fun or character development?:  It can go either way? Sometimes things develop that way because of specific characters. But I’m not gonna lie, sometimes its just for the heck of it. But a bitch for a reason? She’s an absolute piece of shit, but a complicated one. She will never EXPRESS appreciation or affection outside of just sexual indulgence. She won’t ever SHOW fluffy affection, or gratefulness to most people. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t FEEL it. With Loly you will get to see a gal struggle with her own inability to trust or love people, while also trusting and loving people. Also ngl she kinda hot? I guess some people consider that a plus?

- With what type of Muses do you usually struggle to rp with?:   I mentioned it before, but muses who aren’t interested in interacting.  - With what type of Muses do they usually work well with?:  Anyone willing to interact with her! Wether that’s to help her, harm her, or just witness the mental gymnastics this little centipede will go through to keep her mental restrictions intact. 

- What interests your Muse(s) in general:  Power, Indulgence, Being a rotten Bitch, maintaining the survival of Las Noches,  Hot people, Strong People, anything that can benefit her in some way.  - What do they desire, is their goal?:  She wants to be able to escape her fear of her own kind.  - What catches their interest first when meeting someone new?:  Wether or not they are a threat to her survival, if they have something to offer her.  - What do they value in a person?:    Lack of Aggression, Visual Appeal, Power.  - What themes do they like talking about?:  Herself or someone else she is interested in. The Quincy Invasion.  - What could possibly trigger them?:  Grimmjow, Yammy, the subject of Aizen.  - What could set them off, enrage them?:  People trying to kill/maim her arbitrarily.  - What could lead to an instant kill?:  Aggressively trying to kill her, making it clear you have no intention to let her live peacefully again. 

- Is there someone /-thing they hate?:  Aizen. Orihime. Hueco Mundo. Being a Hollow/Arrancar.  - Is there someone /-thing they love?:   Menoly, People that try to help her.  

Is your Muse easy to approach?: YES / NO / Kinda - Best ways to approach them?:  It’s a little complicated. But if you’re persistent enough and you genuinely want a positive interaction with her, she will bitch about it but she will eventually soften up. Especially if she feels no reason to fear you. She absolutely won’t trust you at first and it’ll be an uphill battle, but its doable. 

For Antagonists ehh.....just give her breathing room? Feel free to torment her but like....if you get real incessant about it, or outright try to kill her she will actively avoid you like the plague. And if you corner her she WILL try to kill you, and her venom means that no matter how strong you are, she MIGHT pull it off if you are careless.  - Where are they usually to find?:  Verse dependent, but tbh she could be found just about anywhere. She’s usually in  Las Noches, ut she sneaks off to all kinds of places for some peace and quiet, or just to try and enjoy her generally unpleasant existence. 

Something you may still want to point out about your muse?:  Patience WILL pay off eventually? And she’s not a bitch 24/7. Sometimes she’s too tired/bored to be her usual bitchy self.

howdy yall it’s nine back at it again with a new muse! sky here is the cousin of my other muse pip ( @mmpip ). she’s a lot less chaotic than him - she’s a much more playful, kind, mature person. you can find her profile here, and her history here. sky’s a charms major and baking enthusiast. she also really likes inventing things, sometimes without magic, sometimes with; like creating new spells - though this is really dangerous and she knows it, she’s sort of an adrenaline junkie in that sense (luna lovegood’s mum was killed by trying to create a spell so yes, this is potentially a fatal feat and not something she tries recklessly or often) she does like learning about lesser known spells though, or using spells for unconventional things like using the reducto spell to blast chocolate bars into small pieces to use for High Quality hot chocolate.

GENERAL INFO !!

sky was actually born a twin, but when she was five her twin drowned and she blamed herself for a really long time (still sort of does but she’s healed a lot with time)

she has a little brother who she absolutely adores who was born when he was nine and sort of helped to mend her after losing her twin

But okay, here we go:

1. Conner & Tilly Jackson - Uhhhh. Hm. Okay. So I’m not sure what you know of Red Dead Redemption 2 (if anything lol), but this actually could be interesting. Idk on the verse, but Tilly is pretty good at handling people so I don’t think she’d have a problem with Conner’s douche vibes. Like, she’s not afraid to call people out on their ish. She’s pretty immune to obvious flirting, she’s really good at shutting it down. She’s really sweet, especially when you’re on her good side. That said, she runs with criminals in her canon so that could be interesting. I could foresee some type of enemy turned friend thing happening.

2. Megan Howard & Obi-Wan Kenobi - Hahahaha. This is kind of funny because I legit was thinking that in Obi’s modern verse (whenever I decide to write it) he’d have to go by Ben since no brit is naming their kid Obi-Wan unless they’re uber-nerds. (Idk how much you know about Star Wars but basically Ben is an old nickname in his canon that he uses later in life) but ANYWAY I see that Megan’s son’s name is Ben. The only thing I can think of is maybe Obi is their new neighbor and he bonds with Ben because of their shared name after the kiddo wanders into his yard or something?? Whatever the case, Megan seems like a sweetheart, so I can see them getting along well. Obi’s wise, patient, and a really good guy, but he’s also a bit of a smart ass pfft. This sounds like the start of a romcom tho, and I’m DYING xD

3. Honey Lemon & Leo Manfred - YIKES. look. okay. HONEY BBY I’m sorry. Leo is... well. A lot. Not sure how much you know about Detroit Become Human... but he’s all kinds of trouble. I don’t even know where the start lol. They are like polar opposites. Leo is like... the definition of troubled. They would run in completely different circles, but if they did cross paths he’d find Honey bizzare and would probably say as much, he doesn’t really have a filter. He keeps people at a distance. He also deals with a drug problem, so there’s that too. Plus he’s got a really bad potty mouth. Lol, this turned into me listing his faults....but tbh, IF she could get passed his defenses... she’d probably be a good influence on him.

4. Elionwy & Maximus Boltagon - The Inhumans are lesser-known in the MCU (the show wasn’t well-received), so idk if you know anything about them, and I don’t have a full info post about my portrayal of Maximus. But basically, think of him as a prince that REALLY wants the thrown to the kingdom. He’s really manipulative and likes to use people to his advantage. I know in her info you mention Elionwy having an “Aunt” who was using her, maybe he’d fill that role but as an Uncle? Maybe? Idk, that was the first thing that popped into my head anyway lol. Whatever the case, Maximus is for sure a villain, though in his head he’s just taking what is rightfully his. So, like, he comes off as being trusting and the kind of guy you’d want to get along with... but he a baddie. But omg, since Eionwy is a redhead she could technically totally be Blackagar (Maximus’ older brother) and Medusa’s daughter (Medusa is a redhead)?? So the potential for father-daughter stuff too if we went with the uncle thing since I write for Blackagar too.

5. Anton Vasilev & Molly Hooper - I’m gonna sound like a broken record, but idk how familiar you are with the show Sherlock either and of course I know nothing about Grishaverse except what you’ve told me BUT that said, just judging off his info I actually think these two would hit it off pretty well. A lot of people label Molly as being mousey, but she’s more than that. She’s just a bit socially awkward and can put her foot in her mouth sometimes, but she’s really kind. I don’t know how they’d meet, or what verse, but their personalities are very similar. She also has bad luck in the love department so there’s that too lol.

nope.  unless we’re talking violence against grimm, which weighs on his conscious not at all.  it’s not even easy for him to seriously harm a person physically and (to a lesser degree) emotionally.

▸      what’s    it    like    when    your    muse    breaks    down ? depends on the reason and the kind of outlet he needs, but love gets very emotional when he’s feeling anything intensely.  crying when he’s overwhelmed is a sure reaction.  whether or not he distances himself / wants solitude or seeks out comfort is dependent on the situation.  he leans towards the latter, though sometimes he’s not in the mood for comfort or will act sharply / act out even if he needs comfort.  tbh, breakdown love is someone who doesn’t have the spoons left to be super considerate of others, and it becomes more apparent how considerate he is of others.

Thoughts on werewolves and maiar and souls

So I was struck with many thoughts this morning that I had to share cause they’re distressing me. I started on the never-ending debate of how Sauron and Melkor created the werewolves (and tbh, dragons), Tolkien having described them as being imbued with evil spirits, which we can safely assume are maiar, probably lesser maiar. 

Which of course, raised all sorts of strange questions about Tolkien’s idea of souls. Now - I have not read HoME, at least the majority of it, so I know that he’s teetered back and forth on this topic (esp concerning the orcs) but I am hoping that folks who are versed in HoME can provide some insight. Did Tolkien define souls as that which contained the Flame Imperishable? Where did he draw the line between being that had a conscious, intelligent soul, and those that did not? I always got the sense that birds and beasts and plants in his world did not have ‘souls’ per se - but that leaves us with the exception of Manwë’s eagles, perhaps Oromë’s cattle/horses/hounds too? Tolkien seemed to give some merit to beings that had language, those that could communicate of their own volition (unlike his early draft of Orcs, which were merely ‘beasts’ that ‘mimicked’ Melkor’s words). The Eagles could speak languages recognizable to us, but then you have the ravens, the thrushes, many tongues of bird or beast that the wise and learned could come to be fluent in. In that sense, of course animals all have their own languages, as is true in nature - but did Tolkien ‘count’ these as evidence of souls? Did all living things possess some tiny part of the Flame Imperishable, as it made up the heart of the Earth itself? Were all souls immortal, in that once the body died, the souls continued on another journey? WHAT DID ERU DECIDE TO GIVE THE FLAME TO? EVERY LIVING THING? Because, as I recall, in the case of the dwarves, they would not be ‘true’ people until Eru blessed them and gave them a bit of the Flame, otherwise they’d be just animals. And then where did the souls of dead creatures of nature go? Tolkien I need to know these things. 

But to return to the werewolves - these abominations of nature which seemed to be, from Tolkien’s wording, beasts that were then possessed by maiar and given consciousness and intelligence beyond their natural capabilities (i.e., they can speak - the rest, their power, size, arguable to have just being bred selectively or tweaking of DNA by Melkor himself). But how do you just, stuff a maia into the body of a living creature? It raises so many questions, which brought me back to: do animals have souls? If they do not - that suggests maiar could inhabit the bodies of any animal, and that ‘evil’ beasts encountered in Middle-Earth could be possessed by maiar and be a reversible condition. But this seems futile, as maiar could already change their own fanar into anything of their choice. So... ok, let’s explore if they did have souls. A few options. Maiar spirits are more powerful than those of lesser beasts or even elves or Men. Could they ‘contest’ with the soul already inhabiting a body, and if they gain the mastery of the hröa, could they effectively eject the owner’s soul out of it? Could they coexist (I have a feeling Tolkien would have said ‘no’ on this, only one soul could inhabit a body at a time)? The other option would be to release the soul from the body before putting the maia in - either perhaps this could be performed through magic, or.. well, you could kill the beast, and in effect perform necromancy to resurrect it by having the maia possess the corpse and give it new life (ZOMBIE DOGGOS, except not really, except, wouldn’t that look awesome). 

But then, my next question of: How did they breed? I’ve pondered on Ainur reproduction a LOT, but if we just wanna stick to what we know, it seems highly unlikely that they could make new maiar by breeding the werewolves with each other while possessed by the maiar. It sounds like each new werewolf began from a beast and was at some point in its life given a maia host. While we do not really know how long these wolves live, it seems that they had a lifespan far beyond that of a normal animal, and if possessed by a maia, one could assume they are immortal. For, the body (fana) of a maia is not special, just flesh or whatever material they choose, but it is the ëala, the soul, which powers it and gives it the abilities of that maia - they bleed through, they extend, from the soul into the body. So while the werewolves are not homemade fanar, I would think they exhibit the same immortal nature of a regular maia. This by extension makes me think that the wolves were possessed when they became mature, because, as a norm, maia bodies do not age. So - back to the question - I am perplexed at how Mairon went about breeding these animals. Tolkien cites Drauglin as being the father of many many werewolves, which really does suggest to me that they reproduced while possessed. This... er... this really starts getting complicated with what magic DNA gets passed on when Ainur copulate with non-magic creatures, and Tolkien did not do a great job of stating definitively what wiggly things go on there (this is the basis of my philosophical metaphysical musings of the past two years. Conclusion: Ainur cannot breed new, pure, Ainur while in tangible raiment, very very long story short, but there’s no completely plot-hole free answer). So I just, have to think that while maiar-possessed werewolves did breed, their offspring were genetically based on the physical form of the parents. The soul inside... UM... TOLKIEN HELP ME OUT... this, once more, suggests that beasts were considered soulless. They just... can’t inherit a new maia soul... perhaps their bodies were enhanced with a smidge of inherited magic but THE SOUL CAN’T BE AINU IDK WHAT TO TELL YOU gdi Tolkien. If Mairon and Melkor were over here making new Ainur we’d have heard about it - Chekov’s gun, ok? The idea of Valarindi was scrapped, Tolkien was pretty clear Ainur weren’t - can’t, won’t, both - having kids. The best I can say is that it’s implied each werewolf was independently imbued with its own maia spirit. Help me out here. I want feedback and ideas. omg tho i can't wait to finally get into gear and make my blog for saku, they're the oc i've had muse for ( tbh they're mine and atlas's oc ), like they're tooru and hikaru's kid in the good ending and they're honestly this cheeky lil brat who's admittedly kinda spoiled but they're rly in tune with their senses and help out those who may not have the best lives. for example they always will bring over ppl who don't have happy lives at home to the shrine bc they believe that family isn't who ur born into all the time, it's also who u love and care for and want to see in ur future so ofc they make a temporary family for ppl whose families aren't the best. they're also super kind if you're nice to them in turn even if they initially appear as standoffish and rly cocky. they're half - divine bc hikaru has divine blood in him + in the good end, tooru becomes an angel / lesser god / kami of the shrine, so they're like. super confident abt it but literally they just spend their down time chasing after cats and hunting for cryptids. they think the government is made of lizard people.

but also they're like. so super accepting ? like, tooru's mental illnesses / their symptoms get rly bad and often out of his control just bc the events leading up to their good end rly put a toll on his mental state and he's doing better now but saku rly helps ground him. like they reassure him when he's having a paranoia breakdown bc of his bpd ( fear that everyone will leave him, that they'll get tired of him and disappear, etc ). they also help hikaru when he's going through periods of hysteria due to his ptsd … they remind him that he is still human and a good person … they rly rly love their parents.

also they're intersex ! they identify as agender and use they / them or he / him pronouns !! they grew up with lgbt parents so ofc they're super duper accepting like they literally don't judge AT ALL and it's wonderful bc yknow. a lot of our prejudices come from mimicking our parents' views / what we learn from peers and in schools but saku has parents who are not only lgbt but also suffer from mental illnesses and so they're rly educated on this kind of stuff. they love everyone. they also love to prank everyone tho bc again. they're a cheeky lil shiz even if they're a good person …

What better way to start than by mentioning, loveaddiicted, the person who was kind enough to send in this ask? I’ve known Julie for like ever, and it’s pretty safe to say that her talent has only increased over the years. I mean, honestly. Her blog just went completely original, and she’s writing each of her like twenty muses so well. She knows each one inside and out, and they each have their own story. No two are a lot alike, and that’s impressive. And her Photoshop creations? I’m envious tbh. I wish I knew how to make all of that pretty stuff. Like, especially the icons. She also runs a pretty awesome meme blog, so go and check that one out if you haven’t already. Yeah, Julie is basically all kinds of awesome, and she does a lot for the community. I mean, who else would ask for opinions about who people want to see on the dash as potential faceclaims and then actually take those suggestions to heart and use them? Go. Follow.

Let’s talk about galaxyraised next. I’m tagging that blog, just in case she decides to go through with changing Mellie’s URL before this posts. Random, but I think that the name Zanza is super unique. I like it. I’m a recently new follower of hers, but that doesn’t mean that I wasn’t a fan beforehand. I’ve seen some of her threads with Nic on my dash, and I always thought she had a lot of talent. Then she made a PRESIDENT Mellie Grant blog, and I couldn’t help but hit that follow button. I went back and finally checked out the multimuse, and there are so many great characters on there that I want to write with. I’m just a little afraid to ask, because the characters I want to write them with on my end are from lesser known fandoms. That’s beside the point, though. Zanza’s Photoshop skills are literally off the charts tbh. Each creation is just so, so gorgeous? Teach me your ways, please and thank you. We haven’t actually spoken out of character yet, but from what I’ve seen, she seems like such a lovely and wonderful person who deserves all of the happiness and then some. But yeah, I’m so glad I finally got over whatever was wrong with me and finally started writing with her, because it’s been nothing short of great so far.

Okay, the final shoutout goes to weatheredworn. I have been a fan of Emily’s for a long while now. In the beginning, I was worried that she was too elite for an original character like mine, but wow. She’s quite literally one of the sweetest people on this entire website. I just really enjoy seeing her on my dash, and I’m so glad that I finally decided to actually follow her. Each one of her muses is written so, so well, and she’s not afraid to go into detail and type up lengthy replies. We have one going on right now that I’ve been in love with from the starter. Speaking of her starters, I was able to tell within two seconds that she’d taken the time to read my semi finished bio and get to know Delia a little bit, and that meant a lot. Much like the other two people I mentioned in this ask, her Photoshop skills are on a whole other level. I’m quite literally in awe of each of her graphics. Like, don’t even get me started. Oh, and also her formatting. Basically, everything about Emily’s blog is super pretty. And then there’s the meme blog she runs that just has such a variety to choose from. This community most certainly wouldn’t be the same without her, and I am forever grateful that she was kind enough to give Delia and me a chance.

This is super interesting. 

I imagine the whole matter is complicated and the whole backstory isn’t revealed yet, but I still lean toward the Monsters’ side of things, and think the Mewman system is screwed up--and this:

Banning trade with monsters, protecting the kingdom’s crops from starving beasts that had no homes or food, allowing her husband to charge into the forest for his monster hunts.. All of it kept fear and weakness at the forefront so that future rebellions could not have the strength to rise.

Gave me chills. The idea that Moon is making this calculated decision to keep the Monsters too weak and afraid to rebel...just disturbs me. And rings true to me. This all actually generally fits my headcanons about Moon’s darker character--which may be an unpopular opinion, but it’s one I have. I just headcanon Moon as, though she dearly loves her daughter, as ultimately very much a product of the Mewman system that oppresses Monsters. (And this may become an AU that will continue to interest me, depending on what “The Battle for Mewni” TV movie reveals OMG I am looking forward to that.)

This too also disturbed me:

Monsters and Mewmans would soon find their deaths in a world where each came together again. It seemed easier- simpler- for them to exist separately. It was not the answer the queen liked, however as ruler it became necessary to make decisions that were not always favourable in order to protect those around you.

I may not be seeing what you meant, but I interpret this as--again like what I was getting at above--Moon still being largely warped by the system that keeps Mewmans in power, and it just raises a bunch of questions in me and skepticism in me, and ah ha I think this is a part of my Toffee muse I can really write because I really feel it. Like who is she really protecting? What is she really protecting? (It seems like mostly Mewmans, and she could tell herself Monsters too, but to a lesser degree; Mewmans getting priority of full protection, Monsters suffer but are protected from what she considers a worst fate, outright constant warfare and death. But are these scare tactics she’s using, even if she does have this genuine fear? Is she using fear of a worst fate--of a ‘world where Monsters and Mewmans find death when they come together’--to maintain the status quo and remain in power and maintain what she considers “order/peace?” ) Is this really peace she’s preserving, when using segregation, and choosing to do whatever it takes to crush rebellion to maintain it? (It does not seem like peace when a people suffer. This seems more like Mewmans keeping control and enjoying their own order at the expense of others. It seems with all options being shut down, warfare is the Monsters’ last resort, unless other options open up. That a “peace” that keeps them suffering deserves to be broken, and ultimately replaced with something else.)

This was also interesting, and leaves me wanting to learn more--again, that indication of not everything’s been revealed yet (what were those “poor circumstances?”)--but also still unsettles me:

How could she make Ludo understand what poor circumstance led to her informed decision to shut out his kind? To justify it felt cruel. It was not the queen’s intention to do so, instead she sought to explain. A shared degree of understanding would do no harm- it was not a discussion of right and wrong, it was a discussion of choices.

I find this unsettling--Moon mentions cruelty, but she still seems to largely shut out the moral aspect of this when focusing on this as a matter of choice. Also just unsettling that she was driven to shut out Monsters, even if I don’t know the full context; it still just feels unsettling that she ultimately decided to do that, and still continues to do it. Again, this is my interpretation, I may not have completely got your original intention. But I think part of why I’m interpreting it like this is because it does fit my headcanons about Moon (like these thoughts keep occurring to me--just the idea that Moon’s idea of morals may actually be very different, that is, they’re not as important as the issue of power--who has it, who doesn’t, who can maintain their power/order and do what it takes to accomplish that--and just, she’s not that overt about this, but it’s there and morals aren’t actually her priority--but that’s really another meta entirely). 

Just ahhh this is really interesting writing, and it reminded me of other things I’ve been thinking about, and it got me thinking even more, so thanks for that. ^_^ I really do love how your Moon just freaked me out.

Yes, Ludo is indeed asking the real questions. Ah and just after I wrote that, and re-reading, I realize that to me, Moon doesn’t actually seem to directly answer all of Ludo’s real questions and instead gives him some actually really vague responses. Like she goes into the matter of “bad guys,” but doesn’t actually address his accusation that Mewmans hate Monsters. And tbh I’ve always thought of Moon as capable of being very manipulative. She struck me as someone prone to using manipulation as queen; I’ve just been struck in general that the Mewman royal court seems like a place that normally fosters and expects manipulation to be used. Also I’ll admit visually similar expressions between her and Toffee made me think that too; just the fact that they had similar expressions and seemed to have some similar natures in season 1 made me think of them as sort of parallels to each other, and that like Toffee, Moon would use manipulation when ruling her kingdom, as he did when gaining control of Ludo’s forces.

I can see Moon being truthful and genuine here, but she’s being calculated with her words, and I think the stuff she is being truthful and genuine about is coming from an incredibly warped perspective (like this is what she believes as the truth, but her truth is screwed up).

Also re-reading this, I just got unsettled again:

Perhaps we do not think the best of people anymore- not truly because we believe them to be bad, but because we must do what we can in order to be safe.

Moon prioritizing safety, but at what cost? (Is she doing something terrible for safety’s sake--and in the end, it’s not worth it? Again, is she using safety as a goal just to ultimately maintain control? Sacrifice other people’s freedoms and well-being for greater safety?) I’ll admit, I like how this all does seem to fit very well with the Monster-Mewman themes of racism, prejudice, discrimination in canon, because this part in particular really does remind me of that, makes it ring even clearer. Because I do think, though it’s not explicitly stated, it’s supposed to be about Monster-Mewman relations or lack thereof; it feels like that to me. Because it feels like though prejudice may not  make Moon see Monsters as necessarily bad, prejudice still makes her fear them, and think them a risk to safety. That prejudice still leads to this sort of thinking: that their moral character doesn’t matter, who they actually are doesn’t matter--what matters is that she still fears them, they’re still a risk to safety, and that’s enough reason to shut them out. It seems like Moon is still discriminating, just in a different way. Though this is another of my interpretations of your writing, how I understood it. (Also it’s just another headcanon I have about her--Moon does have her own prejudices about Monsters too.)
