reading fellowship of the ring to overcome being a lotr hater for so long (i actually didnt have any complaints about lotr itself so much as, people always got really pushy and rude about how i hadnt seen it and didn't really have any interest in doing so. like babes wait until you hear that ive never seen star wars either, or most of the big tentpole nerd franchises)

anyway. can someone tell me why i started crying when the hobbits met tom bombadil and goldberry. i love them???

#anime life #i know why. its because lotr is so much nicer than i was expecting #basically all fantasy media made after lotr was influenced by it so i guess i was (even subconsciously) expecting it to be. yknow.#like all the fantasy media that followed it #and personally i have grown a little weary w cynical irony-poisoned media where there is no kindness in the world bc its 'not realitistic'#but likewise im weary of the converse: very fluffy nice media where no one is ever really mean #(or if they are then they are immediately condemned by the story and its characters and there is no ambiguity)#yknow. game of thrones vs boyfriend dungeon. i don't really want either #so i keep being surprised that lotr is Serious and Important and Epic but also the world is so deeply kind #this weird magical guy and his hot wife help you and your friends because you need it #anyway they keep describing goldberry as being slender like a willow but i know that's a fucking LIE #i can perceive the truth: my girl is thick as all get out
