Under this formulation, incarceration is understood as a continuum of carceral edifices, or as an institutional matrix in which disability is a core component, not simply an added category of analysis.

This call for connecting analysis of incarceration with disability is also a call to pay attention to the lives of mostly poor people of color who are still incarcerated worldwide in nursing homes, institutions for those with labels of mental illness and/or intellectual disability and prisons, and bring their perspective to bear on what Chris Bell characterized as ‘White disability studies’ (2006). What do you think about the genre 'very short stories'? Any tips on writing them?

Here's a link to story lengths in general: http://jodierennerediting.blogspot.com/2010/09/typical-lengths-of-fictional-works.html?m=1So according to that article, a microfic is up to 100 words, hard to write, and hard to sell, but the style is gaining popularity. A flash fiction or short short is 100- 1000 words, very popular, the length found in magazines, easy to write, and easy to sell, according to the above source. I haven't written a microfic nor do I think I've really read examples of them. Creating a plot and character(s) in so little words seems very difficult to do. For myself personally, this would be a cool writing exercise or something to do for fun, not something I'd hope to get commercial gain out of. If I went about writing one, I think I'd really go for a shock effect, which isn't something I typically reccomend. I don't think 100 words is enough to impress readers with developed characters or an interesting plot or make you feel a rollercoaster of emotions, so I think what would make the fic most memorable would be stunning the audience. Another tip I have is that this fic would have to be very focused on telling one thing. There's not room for diversions or side stories or much explanation or flowery language. I looked up the tag 'microfiction' on tumblr, and the ones that actually look to be 100 words or less have these things in common: they're horror, scifi, or fantasy in nature; they read more like prompts than stories; they don't elicit joy (not feel-good stories); they're grim. On to flash fiction. This is more my forte since I've written a few. There are also alot of writing contests out there that typically seek around 1000 words, and, as the article said, this is the common story length you'd submit to magazines. For me personally, flash fics are harder to write than regular short stories (1000-7500 words according to a couple sources), novellas, or full length books. Now, by harder, I don't mean more time consuming, obviously. I mean harder as in harder to write a good one. It's not a genre I've mastered. Tips:• You can splurge more on creating an interesting character or a few, a more complex plot, fleshing out relationship(s), and setting description. However, you still need to have a focus or goal, and every word you write needs to be working toward this. • Twist endings are common and pretty enjoyable from a reader's perspective. They don't fit with every story though, and they still need to make sense. If the ending requires a lot of explanation, then it wasn't done right. • You don't need to use 1000 words. A lot of flash fics I've written range from 400 to 800. If the story is complete prior to hitting 1k, don't add useless details to up the count. Also, don't take out important parts of the story to get under 1k. Unless you're writing it for a contest or submission with a 1000 word limit, it's alright to go over because the story itself is more important than what someone on the internet says is too long for a flashfic.
