i was tagged by @clarkenting (thanks bestie!!) to talk about 8 shows as a way to get to know me better, so here they are :)

1. x-files: one of my first big ships. how can i possibly resist the skeptic and believer dynamic? the vibes and aesthetic of this show are also top notch. spooky foggy nights, fbi jackets in an empty field, travelling across the country solving mysteries! plus i’ve always loved the paranormal. also the height difference between mulder and scully is off the charts. YOU’RE MY ONE IN FIVE BILLION <3

2. merlin: god the BANTER. another one of my early ships. starts off lighthearted and then progressively gets darker and more intense as the seasons go on but still has silly moments to lighten the mood. honestly love every character in this show so much. and i’m sure i don’t even have to mention how much the finale broke me completely.

3. star trek - the next generation: i grew up on this show and it will forever be my favourite trek. used to watch it with my dad and sisters and i have very warm fond memories of it. despite some truly bad episodes, i always loved the vibe of exploring and learning in space. if i could live in a fictional show this would be the one. i just want to go to space so badddd

4. the oa: goddd this show. the magical realism! the vibes! the aesthetic! bonds across universes!! i’ve watched it so many times (more s1 than 2) and it never fails to give me goosebumps. that long cold open in the pilot leading to the sweeping violin theme over snowy landscapes.... perfection.

5. maniac: very similar vein to the oa for me. i’ve also watched this multiple times. i love that it’s a self contained story and i ADORE the themes. soulmates across universes! friendship! dealing with loss and grief.. it has it all. also the music in this is so good. the ending just fills me with warmth and hope and i can’t get enough of it. we need more shows like this.

6. supernatural: finally succumbed to the pull of this show. i resisted for years but now i have the brain worms. i’m sure you’re all aware but like COME ON. an angel saving the righteous man, teaching him faith and in turn learning doubt! nothing will ever be like them.

7. chernobyl: i have watched this multiple times and it’s still just as good. just a masterpiece of a show. the storytelling, the cinematography, the music, and the acting is all phenomenal. probably seems like a bit of a weird one to have on this list but it’s just ART.

8. midnight mass: i love all of flanagan’s shows but this one is easily my favourite. the aesthetic and vibes of this one are just UGH... so good. the writing is chefs kiss. all those character specific monologues... and don’t even get me started on the themes around death and finding meaning, the darkness around religion and faith, the bonds of friends and family... heartwrenching but beautiful.

honourable mentions:

handmaid’s tale: june’s anger and increasing insanity speaks to my soul. also every episode directed by elizabeth moss is just SO good.

succession: i love that you aren’t spoonfed and there is so much to read into one liners. the dynamics between all these awful people and how they’re all deeply broken through generational trauma and abuse, wanting to be better and having no idea how to do that. they’re all terrible and i love them.

People who truly dislike Edwina Sharma are wild. Heaven forbid an 18 year old be charmed after being almost relentlessly pursued by an older man. Three married women, including her mother, are for the match. THE QUEEN is for the match. The only person saying he isn't right for her is her sister and like I'm sorry but my sister could swear that a man wasn't that into me and I would not listen if he BOUGHT ME A HORSE!???!!?!!

#having a s2 rewatch and truly. that is a teenager who has never been courted before. that's a girl with no experience with this at all.#she's being pursued by a nearly 30 year old man who we know will chase off a young lady's suitors (see The Daphne Debacle)#also we have no clue what kates love life was like or what she may have revealed to edwina so does eddy think #“my sister who has never entertained men or had a serious relationship is giving me courting advice”#and is that supposed to mean more than their mother's blessing and support?#fair enough mary is supposed to be complacent to an unbelievable level in this show but had kate said “mama he truly isnt right for eddy”#would mary just have handwaved it off? is that the deal the show was going for?#people online loooove to talk about how much you wanna hit your sibling for no reason but an acerbic “half-sister” is too far?#if my maid of honour wanted to fuck my future husband i'd hand the priest my earrings tell him to meet me in the confessional and go to tow #i think edwinas explanation of this anger was not well thought out but she was entirely right to be angry.#anyways. eddy darling i will live you until my dying days.#edwina sharma #bridgerton

(re-ish)watching ncis in 2023 is like came for the murder and crime solving, stayed for the absolutely unhinged tiva plotline

#zanna talks #ncis you beautiful mess of a show #like yeah it's blatantly nationalistic and Very post9/11 and us military propaganda #it likes to be misogynistic and xenophobic and try to play it as a joke #sometimes gibbs will do things that make me feel ill #and also it looooves praising cops and idolizing the maverick mentality and villifying defense lawyers #um point being it's got a lot of flaws and if i hadn't associated it with childhood nostalgia i'm not sure i could have made it far enough #in my rewatch to hit the point where it actually feels worth it past being a good distraction when i feel bad #like the point where you watch tony really start to grow and the plotlines get better and the relationships deepen etc #but man when it hits it hits #wild to watch it as an adult and realize actually the tiva stuff was there all along with effort put in and it wasnt just me making it up #75% of the time theyre just sniping at each other and being annoying coworkers but sometimes they give u a glimpse #not just of how good thye are as a dynamic but just the mcrt in general?#tony burning the letter from jeanne and trying to let go after realizing his team is like his family??#them being the ones to get ziva out of somalia and not her shitty bio dad and sticking up for her when she wants out???#them always believing in each other when they get framed ?? thanksgiving together??#coworkers as family is highly unrealistic in this day and age and maybe just in general but im willing to allow it bc man. they care.#sorry this got. away from me. what was i even talking about #ncis

btw rick and morty makes me insane bc no one Gets it people who don't wanna watch it (like me! before my brother made me watch it in exchange of him watching sk8 the infinity w me!) are like ugh problematique bad #edgy dark humor adult cartoon for reddit bros 🙄 but then the reddit bros who watch it & became the main representatives for its audience are like haha pickle rick wooo you need high iq I Relate To Rick Sanchez Deeply and he's like the joker to them and he's a king and an icon of alpha males somehow???? but like. neither of those people understand that rick and morty is actually about Nobody Exists On Purpose. Nobody Belongs Anywhere. Everybody's Gonna Die. Come Watch TV?

#like yea the universe is huge and there's so many versions of everything that everything becomes replaceable and therefore worthless #and you can find joy in that or not. you can find a way to be happy despite it all or not #yes the core is nihilism. but then like. why are we ignoring the opposite approaches to nihilism shown by the titular characters #people will talk too much abt rick and not enough abt morty if u ask me but whatever. let's talk abt rick #why will people forget that what makes our rick the ''rickest rick'' (arguable ????) is not that he's the Toughest Smartest Whatever rick #but that he's the most human rick ? like. the fact that he was attached to his humanity and to the worth he found within it is what #kickstarts the entire show. bc he tries quitting science. and when another rick offers him the portal gun so he can live out that #nihilistic reckless life we see he refuses it bc it sounds Lonely???????? which it IS #so then the other rick takes away what matters to our rick. and that's what makes him the Alpha Male Genius that the reddit bros like #not his toughness his brains his big dick or whatever. it was all about loooove baybayyy and revenge i do love revenge #it was his heart that made him into what we see in the show <3 and what we see in the show is a pathetic weak miserable old bastard #but the reddit bros aren't brave enough to accept it #but whatever. next time we will be talking abt how much he loves morty and how he hates it so much bc it makes him weak #(as evil rick points out when they're looking over rick's memories and he tears up when he sees morty. which kills me btw)#(so much so that when rick can take out everything he considers toxic from inside of him he gets rid of his love for morty too)#and yet he loves his little buddy sooooo much it's what fuels him now. kinda. lol #is he still shitty. does he fall back in his own shit a lot. does he keep treating morty like shit. yea #there's no buts. the statements coexist #yes he will drunk call jessica to cry abt missing morty. yes he will dump morty for two crows #and also he's in love w birdperson. next time too #oh nay

In order to keep a tumblr-social-judgment-approved balance of media consumption, I alternate between Pokeani (children's media) and House MD (something problematic happens every 5 minutes). It's like pemdas or something, it probably evens out.

thank you for writing in. at the top of this post i would like to clarify that pahrsi was made by my good friend rye beans, so i cannot at all take credit for her. ariane is my girl though. i would love to blend her. she sucks.

to answer your question, i think it is because they are both completely fucking insane. the dialogue in question is one i picked because i think it's wild out of context, but it stays equally insane in context? this exchange happens maybe two hours after they've met, after pahrsi has stitched up a particularly icky wound ariane has in the back of her leg (obtained from other yuri. thats a story for a different post though). they literally met at a casino and pahrsi talked ariane into taking her back to her place to stitch her up. as a complete stranger. because she thought it would be fun. i need to send her to the shredder.

the whole reason they find themselves drawn to each other in the first place is because they both have girlfriends that they have kind of rocky relationships with, and they remind each other of those girlfriends. it's kind of a weird rebound situation except if they never did anything explicitly romantic and instead just kind of danced around the fact that they're obviously attracted to each other for like two entire years. they make me fucking crazy.

oh and every exchange they have is equally insane. they always talk like this. im struggling to pick my favourite one to add at the end here because all of it is really really good. i think this one is a classic; this is barely a third of the conversation these two have about ariane's potential to kill pahrsi.

what the FUCK is wrong with them

#this is a really really basic overview of how they met and covers basically nothing about why they continue to make me insane #because this is like twenty years in the past and theres a lot going on in the present to make me crazy #but hey gotta start somewhere. idk its like i loooove to talk about these guys. i do. i would love to talk about them forever #but it is soooo much easier if i have like. Directed Questions its kind of hard to unravel their whole deal off the top of my head #all this to say this was fun . bats my eyes at my darling followers you should all ask more #you could even ask about my ocs that are pahrsi's sort-of-kids. theres a whole story there. though less insane than the yuri #arianwyn #pahrsi #13 orphans #placeholder ask tag #verysharpfish #other contenders for dialogue at the end here were secret blackjack and the holes innuendo #but nothing hits like tasteful artistry of a crime scene to me #sure hope the colour coding doesnt suck here but it means i dont have to restructure certain sentences to remove ambiguity so. lol #okay i think thats it thank you for showing interest in these freaks

I watched Little House on the Prairie ONCE a very long time ago and I really love it, but man these days I watch one episode and immedietly wanna watch Bonanza instead... Looking at Charles Ingalls just makes me miss Joe

#also abit sentimental cause my mom looooved LHOTP... when I talked to her about Bonanza and that Lil Joe and Charles was the same actor #SHE WAS SHOCKED #SHE HAD NO IDEA #and she told me she had a huge crush on him back in the day #those are very fond memories for me #(':#also in 2019 the whole fam went on a vacation to Spain and we stayed one night in this hotel and I shared room with my dad #he was flicking channels and one of the channels was showing LHOTP and I remember sitting up and yelling “WAIT I WANNA WATCH THAT” so #cue me laying on my dads bed kick my feet in the air watching LHOTP with spanish subtitles #my dad in the background like 🧍‍♂️cause he really doesn't care for old tv shows

this may look hypocritical coming from someone who's favorite tv show only has women in it to support the character arcs of men but at least I know it's a sexist series

I don't care about star wars anymore except for when i do. Who give a shit.

#i only watch anything new that comes out when my parents want to #and my dad didn't even want to watch the new mando season #which makes me sad because he looooves star wars as soon as i was old enough to walk he was showing me the original trilogy #and talking about the figures he made as a kid #he was so excited to be able to show star wars to his kid #it's always been our thing. and now neither of us even want to watch new sw stuff anymore.#it makes me SAD that was our THING #we still have titanfall 2 tho so it's fine #🪼#rant because I'm bitter about the horrors (mediocre tv shows)#i might try to get him into dead space. disco game is too commie for him.
